Olivia Munn on suiting up for X-Men Apocalypse: ‘you have to slide into it’

Actress Olivia Munn is no stranger to working out, but she had to get into tip-top condition to fill the skintight costume for her role as Psylocke in the upcoming movie X-Men: Apocalypse, set to hit theaters in May. In order to prepare for the role, Olivia had to endure some intense training. But after the production wrapped, she continues to enjoy the sword work, telling E! News, “I still do tae kwon do and I have a sword closet at home. It’s really a great exercise for me to do.” She also said she’s added dance classes to her workout regimen. She said of the classes (offered at L.A.’s Body by Simone studio), “Going in there isn’t like a regular frilly…they’re like ballerinas who are hard core.

As for her skintight togs on screen, she told E!, “[Psylocke’s uniform] is not the most glamour (sic) thing to put on. There’s actually a lubricant that they put in and you have to slide into it.” She also said she keeps the costume at work, only allowing boyfriend Aaron Rodgers to see her in full Psylocke regalia when she was on the set. She and Aaron made quite the cute couple at the Super Bowl on Sunday. I love the blazer and jeans combo, but, as a football fan, how could she walk around in those strappy sandals? I’ve seen girls at games in heels and they always look miserable. Of course, I’m sure they don’t sit in the cheap seats like I do.

The first trailer for the upcoming X-Men film debuted during Sunday night’s Super Bowl, giving viewers a quick sneak peek at her character, one of the Four Horsemen recruited by the evil Apocalypse, played by Oscar Isaac. In case you missed it, Olivia shared a still from the trailer on her Instagram and also posted a short video showing off her sword work (against a balloon wielding Deadpool, a/k/a, Ryan Reynolds).

Was the work worth it? I guess we’ll have to wait until May to find out. But is it just me, or is anyone else getting a little tired of all of these superhero movies? I saw the full X-Men trailer (as well as the trailer for Captain America: Civil War) Monday before Star Wars: TFA and it didn’t elicit the usual excitement I used to feel when a new Marvel movie was being released. I’m kind of burnt out on all of them.

I’m excited for her as Psylocke. I used to draw the Xmen when I was younger, and Psylocke, Rogue and Dazzler were my go to sketches. I think Munn is going to do great, and I am a total fan girl.

Also excited for Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn too!

I thought that was Kat dennings having a bad day from the header pick.

    • AnotherDirtyMartini says:

Yup! Me too. I think Olivia had eye work done. Maybe. Possibly. Something’s off with her lately.

      • Elsie Otter says:

Yup, she definitely did. I think she got some sort of eye lift. A lot of asians get eyelid surgery to make their eyes more “open.”

      • redpromise says:

it looks like she’s also done something to her jaw. its much more narrow now

      • Mel M says:

I was looking at old pics of her because I’ve noticed she looks different and I think it cheek filler and some lip filler. She used to have a much softer rounder face and now she has some high and pretty pronounced cheek bones.

That suit is so unnecessary but Olivia is gorgeous and i love Psylocke. I am very unsure about Apocalypse though. I feel like the First Class cast are fatigued with it and no one was really into it. But McFassy interviews again !!!!!!!!!!!

    • ichsi says:

Oscar Isaac is in the mix now too! Otherwise completely agreed. I wanna be excited but I’m not really? I find the whole more noise, more drama, more bombast a little tiring.

  4. StormsMama says:

I love her. I just got into The Newsroom 2 weeks ago (my baby boy was 10 days late and the last few days I needed something to take my mind off being SO PREGNANT). Anyway I’m mid season 3 now and I honestly love her. She is funny and has great chemistry with Thomas Sadoski’s character Don.
Don’t understand the hostility toward her.
    Plus she’s gorgeous.

Sword closet is the new gift wrapping room.

Corey, I’m beyond sick of all the super hero movies, ugh!

  7. Jessica says:

I guess it will be too much to hope for that people are getting tired of all these superhero movies and this one at least doesn’t make as much as expected. And her and her new face are going to be everywhere doing promotion for this thing. I’m already dreading it.

  8. daniel says:

I don’t think she is funny at all or suited for action movies. Her best role to date was in The Newsroom, a drama. She should stick to doing dramatic roles.

  9. Sarah says:

Bleurghhhh why is Olivia Munn ever cast in anything?

    • Jessica says:

I have a theory why, but it would be rude to say. Since I never thought she would get even this far in her career, I’m starting to get scared that she’s never going to go away.
