Olivia Munn: ‘There’s always going to be someone smarter, prettier, thinner’

'Ride Along 2' World Premiere

Olivia Munn recently sat down with makeup guru and Yahoo Beauty Editor in Chief Bobbi Brown to talk beauty, fitness and diet for Yahoo!. When asked about her red carpet look, Olivia confessed that she still needed to “work on my face”, claiming that people have said she looks high in photos, which she blames on trying to look cool. As for sharing beauty tips, there’s no earth-shattering revelations. Wash your face, exfoliate “morning and night” and use sunscreen. Pretty common sense stuff. She says that if she doesn’t have to apply eyelash extensions (because of her trichotillomania, which causes her to pull her eyelashes out…ouch), it only takes her 15 minutes to apply her makeup. Takes me 5. Just saying.

She told Bobbi that she was glad her boyfriend, Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, who has been giving her the “discount double check” for quite a while isn’t “precious” like those Hollywood boys. His eating habits, however, have caused her to re-evaluate some of her food choices. Olivia said, “He eats what he wants, but he does focus more on eating healthy — which has been a little bit of a bummer for me sometimes. [I sometimes ask him], ‘Should we order in pizza?’ He’s like: ‘I think I’m just going to do a salad.’ I’m like: ‘Yeah, me too. That’s what I want. I don’t want a pizza.'” Aaron can probably have a slice or two, since his team is out of the running for a Super Bowl victory this season.

As for her preferred workout, she eschews the treadmill, confessing that, “If there was a fire, I wouldn’t run.” She also isn’t a fan of spinning and hates yoga. She enjoys tae kwon do (which she got a black belt in at the age of 14) and added, “I prefer to do things where it doesn’t feel like a workout.”

The 35-year-old actress said that her latest film role, playing a cop in Ride Along 2, was “the funniest time of my life”, as she got to hang out with Kevin Hart and Ice Cube (who she refers to as “Mr. Cube”.)

When asked about women comparing themselves to her, Olivia said, “I learned a long time ago when I was little, being multi ethnic and moving around a lot, I was always the new girl and never felt pretty enough.” Adding, “I wasn’t the ugly duckling either.” She went on to say, “I had this epiphany in eighth grade, there’s always going to be someone smarter, prettier, richer, taller, thinner, so you might as well just try to make the best of what you have.” This coming from a woman who has made a career from being “pretty, smart and funny”. I’ll give her pretty. She’s got a cute boyfriend too – but mine orders pizza for us every weekend, so in that case, I win! You can check out the whole interview below:

This actually made me like her a bit more.

Aaron Rodgers is cute? I find him kind of derpy-looking myself but to each his own..

    • lanh says:

      isn’t he gay?

      • Lucky says:

There are tons of gay rumors about him for a long time. I don’t really buy their relationship but whatever. I like her not him. For all his talent, he’s a big crybaby, a la Tom Brady 😩😭

      • LeAnn Stinks says:

Really? I never noticed that about Rodgers. Brady, yes, Rodgers, not so much. But then again, Eli Manning is my team’s QB, and he rarely balks, if ever.

  2. kri says:

    I was riveted.

  3. Locke Lamora says:

She was always pretty real about beauty in Hollywood. I love her . she’s stunning and was great in Newsroom.

    • annaloo. says:

I really have grown to like her over time. I think she’s great. 🙂

    • Kitten says:

I thought she was pretty awful in The Newsroom myself.

      Like, distractingly bad actually.

      • JFresh says:

I agree! She is tragically untalented. And yet…and yet…there is something about her. Somehow I enjoy watching her anyway. She needs the right part written in the right way, hopefully she’ll get it someday.

  4. Don't kill me I'm French says:

I didn’t read the article but her face looks very different lastly

    • LeAnn Stinks says:

Yes, she definitely did something, and it is a bit more obvious, when you look at much older pictures of her.

I always found her to be smug, but to each their own.

  5. Bella says:

She’s so much prettier when she covers up her girls and isn’t so try hard.
    The 2nd pic, for example.
    Love her casual, classic look.

    Aaron?
I find him a bit goofy, too.
I also saw the blind about him last week and looked into some of it.
Girl…hoping it’s simply gossip and you don’t get your heart ripped out.
Or, maybe their’s is a contractual relationship.

  6. littlemissnaughty says:

I find no fault with what she’s saying. And hey, if a woman dares to call herself smart, pretty, and funny, more power to her. We all go on an on and ON about empowering girls and women and making them feel all those things and then one of them dares to actually say it out loud. I think she is indeed beautiful and funny, I don’t think she’s dumb either. I never thought she’d stick around after TDS disaster (she was really not good) but she did. So yeah, I wish I was that confident.

  7. INeedANap says:

Her face has changed a lot since she was on Attack of the Show, right? Is it exercise/age or plastic surgery?

    • Don't kill me I'm French says:

Nose job ,maybe something with her cheeks ?

      • Antigone says:

She looks like she got a boob job. While she’s very pretty, I find her annoying. Her main talent is self promotion.

      • ichsi says:

Nose job, fillers and a boob job, yes. I agree with Antigone. I found her pretty without the plastic surgery and I think she still looks great with it. But the only thing she’s really good at is self-promotion and talking about how sexy she is.

    • FLORC says:

Nose, eyes, cheeks all got touchups. With heavy weightloss since then too.
Bolt ons are a given and I see botox evidence.

    • LeAnn Stinks says:

Yes, I said the same thing above. I wonder if she had a brow lift and a nose job?

  8. Karen says:

I always am surprised when i see new pics of her because she looks so different from when she started on the daily show.

I still think she’s smart, funny and beautiful. But she’s obviously paid to tweak things that she might have had insecurities with (which is her perogative and daily activity in Hollywood). But that doesn’t necessarily line up with her 8th-grade-selfs advice. But it’s good advice to give. Self-acceptance and be the best version of you.

  9. Nancy says:

When she had this epiphany in the eighth grade she didn’t yet know to add younger to the list of somebodies always going to be…………..

  10. Cynthia says:

I think she’s gorgeous, I could look at pictures of her face all day! And it looks like she has stepped her casual style game up.

  11. FLORC says:

She keeps reinventing herself.. Some people call those who do the same out on this and some buy into it like this incarnation is the real deal.

An aquaintance I have that worked at Viacom knew her when she came to tds and when she auditioned for Manswers. Just around AOTS infamous audition. I don’t have a merry view of her and there was a decent reason she was with tds so briefly.

  12. paranormalgirl says:

    I like her. *shrugs*

  13. Janis says:

Wow, what a wildly unflattering red dress! It looks like it went through a shredder.

  14. Red Cabbage says:

She seems very self-absorbed and hyper competitive. Stunning woman but lots of hang ups. I guess being in HWeird just amplifies it all.

  15. Jessica says:

She is so full of $#!t! She’s the one who once gave an interview and implied that the only reason women don’t like her is because they’re probably fat and lazy. I don’t remember the exact quote, but that was the message. Because the reason couldn’t possibly be her smug and try hard personality. And it’s hard to take her seriously when all she’s ever done is try to drive home the point that she is the sexiest woman on the planet. This chick is not lacking confidence no matter how much she’ll claim otherwise.

    • Melanie says:

+1000 Jessica. I remember that interview and she came off as a complete bitch. Also, for someone that likes to constantly remind us how multi-ethnic she is, she looks whiter than me lately. All the surgery has erased anything slightly original about her face. I daresay she’s skin bleaching.
