Beyonce launches junior apparel label, names it Sasha Fierce

In the wake of the news that Jennifer Lopez is halting one of her junior clothing lines due to the economy, you’d think it’d be a bad time for another multitasking songstress to be branching out into that very same arena. But that’s exactly what Beyonce and mom Tina Knowles are doing with their new “Sasha Fierce” line for their label Deréon. Deréon already has a junior’s line – so how’s this one going to be different? Well according to them, it’s inspired by Beyonce’s Sasha Fierce “character” – who apparently is such a diva that she demands her own line.

Beyoncé and Tina Knowles are looking to capitalize more on Sasha Fierce. Utilizing the name of the singer’s alter ego and third solo album, “I Am…Sasha Fierce,” the mother and daughter design team plans to launch a new junior apparel label, Sasha Fierce for Deréon, for back-to-school selling. The collection, which is inspired by Beyoncé’s stage presence (she is on a world tour through November), includes a full range of sportswear, outerwear, handbags, footwear, eyewear, lingerie and jewelry. Positioned to sit alongside the company’s Deréon junior label, which is similarly priced, the line has so far been picked up by department stores including Macy’s and Dillard’s and specialty stores Jimmy Jazz and Against All Odds.

The collection, Tina said, is “edgier and trendier and reflects Sasha Fierce’s daring and outgoing attitude.” The jewelry, shoes and eyewear, she added, “are really over the top” with large chains made in mixed metals such as silver with gold, heavily studded shoes and oversize sunglasses such as the ones Beyoncé has been seen wearing on tour. The clothes are a little more subdued to make the accessories stand out — a one-shoulder dress, black bodysuit, fake leather jacket with oversize collar, leggings and destructed jeans with mesh and lace details lining the ripped material.

Beyoncé, who said in a statement “the line really exudes a different side of my personality, which I am grateful that I can express,” had a lot of say in the creation of the collection, Tina said… “She definitely tells me what she likes and what she doesn’t. It was her suggestion to line the rips of the jeans with the mesh and lace,” she said. “It makes the jeans look really different from what’s out there.”

[From Women’s Wear Daily]

I don’t know how different the look really is – at least based on the photos – but it’s definitely not bad. I am prematurely old and tend to dislike the urban style most juniors wear these days. But I like what Tina said about the clothes being more subdued in order to make the accessories look better. Most of the time when I pay attention to what people are wearing in New York, it’s like every single part of their ensemble is competing against the rest. It’s always too much, too chaotic, too many patterns, too much jewelry, etc. There is a way to wear the style that’s actually complementary, and though it’s certainly nothing I could ever pull off, the pictures show outfits that look good.

I know we’re never supposed to say anything good about Tina Knowles – especially her “design” work. But I think this line might actually really work – provided you’re in the 18-and-under demographic.

Jude Law wears a fancy vest, will return to Broadway in ‘Hamlet’

90629l3_law_b_gr_10

Imagine you’re Jude Law. Get off the nanny! No, seriously now. You’re Jude Law, and you want to take your youngest son Rudy to a London Starbucks. What do you put on? A t-shirt and some jeans, maybe? Or do you try too hard to look like you just pulled together some weird combination? Do you grab your fancy double-breasted grey vest and a pair of cargo shorts? If you were really in Jude Law’s head, you would always pick the fancy vest. In and of itself, the vest is funny, but I love that Jude is wearing nothing under or over the vest. How embarrassing is Jude for his kids? “Da–aad! You can’t wear the vest with cargo shorts and flip-flops!”

Honestly though, Jude Law looks pretty hot in these pictures. I’m remembering my crush on him circa 2000. The vest distracts from his hairline, so now all I can see is his shockingly buff arms. Yeah, I’d still hit it. The nannies and the vests may come and go, but Jude is still pretty foxy.

In other Jude Law news, his London run of Hamlet is doing really, really well. Jude got some of the best critical acclaim of his career for his turn as the misanthropic Dane, and it was just announced today that the same Donmar Warehouse production of Hamlet - with Jude - will be coming to Broadway.

That collective “oooh” you just heard from Broadway is the sound of theatergoers whose solid (or sullied) flesh has melted and resolved itself into a dew after learning that Jude Law is headed their way.

Mr. Law, the “Cold Mountain” and “Talented Mr. Ripley” star, will play the title character in a Broadway production of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” that is transferring from the Donmar warehouse in London.

In a news release Tuesday, publicists for the Broadway run of “Hamlet” said that the play would be directed by the Donmar Warehouse’s artistic director, Michael Grandage (Broadway’s Frost/Nixon), and would run for twelve weeks at the Broadhurst Theater.

Previews are scheduled to begin on Sept. 12 and an official opening is slated for Oct. 6. Additional actors from the Donmar Theater company are expected to join the “Hamlet” cast, and a production of the play is planned at Elsinore Castle in Denmark from Aug. 25 through 30.

[From The New York Times]

That’s actually very exciting - Broadway enthusiasts will correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe this will be Jude’s first Broadway show since his breakthrough performance in Indiscretions at the very start of his career. The bad news is that Hamlet will be coming to New York at exactly the same time as Sienna Miller’s turn in After Miss Julie. Could we be seeing yet another Jude and Sienna hook-up?

Jennifer Lopez is putting one of her clothing lines on hiatus

fp_887053_fashionweek_lopez_nyc_09_091107

J-Lo is packing up one of her fashion lines. Now before you panic, keep in mind this is J-Lo we’re talking about – she’s got 38 different projects going on at any given time. So rolling up (not out) the red carpet on one of them isn’t the end of the entire world… unless you’re a major J-Lo lover. Then it is near-catastrophe.

J-Lo’s is putting clothing line Sweetface on official pause. It’s not gone forever – at least that’s the world for now. Instead, the company is calling it quits-ish while they revamp.

The recession has already claimed its faire share of celebrity lines from Mandy Moore’s Mblem to Lauren Conrad’s eponymous clothing line going on hiatus, and now WWD is reporting that Jennifer Lopez is following suit and shuttering the doors on her Sweetface line. After six years, Sweetface is halting production after the spring 2009 line, which is in stores now. Sweetface started in 2003 as a urban streetwear spin-off to the JLO by Jennifer Lopez line, but soon became a high end contemporary line. While Sweetface isn’t over forever — the company plans to relaunch with a new vision– no date has been set for its return to stores. But if you are a dedicated J. Lo shopper, you are still in luck — her JLO by Jennifer Lopez line still sells in 40 countries outside of the U.S, and she has six highly successful perfumes with another on the way later this year.

[From People]

Urban streetwear to high end contemporary is a nice little jump for a clothing line to make. Rather unexpected. It’s strange for a clothing line to basically go on hiatus without giving any good reason except something about a “new vision.” And that doesn’t even seem to be the reason, just they’re little bit of chatter about the future. Instinct tells me this is it for Sweetface. But you can still buy one of J-Lo’s 37 other lines of stuff.

Here’s Jennifer Lopez closing out New York Fashion Week by launching her Just Sweet collection for Spring 08. Images thanks to Fame Pictures .

Angelina Jolie: I only wear three basic colors

fp_3038674_ang_inglorious_basterds_2_0520091
I have no idea if this is a genuine interview or some third-hand tabloid account in which these quotes are attributed to Angelina Jolie. I think it’s probably from a small interview Angelina may have given the British OK! Magazine, and now comes to us via My Fashion Life. The quotes sound like Angelina though - which is why I think this was at some point part of a legitimate interview. Angelina is talking about her fashion. In my opinion, Angelina’s fashion sense is at best okay and at worst, boring and a bit too old for her. I was sorely disappointed with many of the dresses Angelina wore during the awards season this year, because she seemed to be dressing in just an endless string of glittery sacks. Part of the reason I adored the tight black column dress she eventually wore to the Oscars was that it wasn’t baggy, ill-fitting, or old-lady-ish.

Angelina admits that she doesn’t put too much thought into her red carpet fashion, and that she has “three basic colors and I get the same shapes in different colors!” Yeah, Angie, we noticed. We also noticed that one of your colors is beige. You need to stop that - it washes you out:

The Oscar-winning beauty – who is often voted one of the world’s most glamorous women – doesn’t worry about what she’s going to wear to major events and usually sticks to a style she feels comfortable in.

She said: “I don’t think too much about what to wear on the red carpet. I usually have three basic colours and I get the same shapes in different colours!”

Although Angelina isn’t overly concerned with fashion, she admits she does like to put on glamorous outfits from time-to-time as it makes a change from her everyday clothes.

The ‘Wanted’ star – who raises six children with partner Brad Pitt - said: “I like to get dressed up and feel like a lady every once in a while.”

Despite giving birth to twins Knox and Vivienne 11 months ago, Angelina has regained her super slim figure and credits it to running around after six children.

She told Britain’s OK! magazine: “I feel great, albeit a little sleep deprived! I run around with all these kids so it’s pretty busy. But I feel great and I’m very happy that they’re healthy.”

[From My Fashion Life]

So the twins are healthy now? But what about that Life & Style report claiming the twins were totally sick? Oh, right. It was Life & Style.

Am I being too harsh on Angelina’s style? She’s never been, say, a Nicole Kidman. Meaning that I think Nicole really cares about fashion, and she uses the red carpet to create drama and buzz. Angelina doesn’t - I think she’s missing the “fashion diva” gene, bless her heart. While I don’t always care for Angelina’s red carpet style, I do like her “everyday” style. In her everyday life, she seems to favor great pants, pencil skirts, simple blouses, sweaters, and some of the best coats ever. In her everyday life, she usually looks comfortable and classic.

Here are photos of Angelina at events and out throughout the year. Credit: Fame Pictures and WENN.com

Courtney Love’s fashion line will include a ruby stitched into every outfit

Twitter is a strange beast. It gives us access to all sorts of personal celebrity thoughts. Which – to be fair – aren’t all that deep, or often all that personal. It’s not like Twitter somehow lets us into celebrities’ brains without their knowing. Yet many of them seem to feel the compulsive urge not just to share useless, mundane crap, but occasionally interesting – albeit strange – bits here and there.

Example: for the last few weeks it’s been rumored that Courtney Love is starting her own fashion line. This is upsetting for a lot of reasons. First off, anything involving Courtney is inherently upsetting. Never has her name been involved with good news. But secondly is that Courtney is easily the worst dresser in the entire world, regardless of her sobriety or mental state. In fact her wardrobe might improve slightly when she’s high. It certainly can’t get worse.

Before Courtney’s people finally made it official that she’s working on her own line, the news leaked via the natural outlet, Peaches Geldof’s Twitter. Because she just had to update the world about how she was having a sleepover with Courtney, eating chocolate cake, and having a fashion show of her new clothes. Alright…

Well we never! Sounds like the rumours Courtney Love is going to be designing a clothing range might indeed be spot on, according to Peaches Geldof that is. Peaches tweeted last night that she was having a sleepover with Ms Love and said that not only were they eating chocolate cake – but also having a ‘hotel-room fashion show’ of her new designs. (Could Ms Geldof be the face of the range?). So now we can exclusively reveal some details of Ms Love’s ideas for the collection. According to the lady herself some ideas include, ‘cotton ribbed body suits’, ‘cashmere harem pants’ and ’stitching a ruby into every outfit’. Hmm could be a bit pricey there, Court! We’ll keep you posted with any more updates…

UPDATE: Courtney Love’s people have confirmed her clothing line is official. We can’t wait!

[From Grazia Fashion]

I believe the rule of thumb in fashion is: when in doubt, sew rubies onto something. Whenever I just can’t figure out how to bring an outfit together, I slap a ruby on it’s just one of those quintessential “Bam!” moments. This will not be a disaster.

Courtney’s done a lot of public complaining about how husband Kurt Cobain’s estate has been raided of hundreds of millions of dollars (up to $530 by some estimates), which took Love a shockingly long time to notice – even for someone s out of it as Courtney. What better way to blow whatever cash is left than gem-encrusted fashion?

Courtney Love eating chocolate cake in her ruby-lined cashmere harem pants… what would we do without Twitter to give us such uninhibited access to celebrities personal lives?

Here’s Courtney shopping away t Cross Creek in Malibu on September 16th. Images thanks to Fame.

Miley Cyrus has a new clothing line with Max Azria for Walmart

full_wenn2437507

Miley Cyrus is slowly taking over the world. First she had her television show and became a singing sensation, and you couldn’t walk into Target without being bombarded with everything Miley: Hannah Montana hairdryers, sleeping bags, and televisions. Now, she’s taking over the tween clothing industry - with Max Azria. Yes, that Max Azria. The clothing line will include everything from tops to pants and shoes, with all items under $20. Released this fall, it will be just in time for back-to school shopping and will come just before Miley’s concert tour.

Hot on the heels of Taylor Swift’s Wal-Mart line of l.e.i. sundresses and the Jonas Brothers’ sweatervests, the “Miley Cyrus & Max Azria” label will include tops, pants, graphic tees, shoes and accessories all priced allowance-friendly and under $20. The goods will hit shelves, as well as Walmart.com, just in time for back-to-school shopping in early August—and her tour kickoff a few weeks later.

Wal-Mart is sponsoring the Miley Cyrus Live in Concert tour, launching Sept. 14 in Portland, Ore., and winding up 45 stops later in Miami.

As for those duds…

“We’re really excited,” BCBG Max Azria Group rep Patrick McGregor tells E! News.

“I love creating looks that are all about personal expression and individuality,” the recently reupped Hannah Montana said in a statement. “Collaborating with Max Azria has been an amazing experience, and I’m really excited about launching this line with Wal-Mart. There’s even more to come!”

In case the idea of Cyrus coming together with the designer sounds familiar, the pair shared a segment during the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards this year that had the starlet and Duane “The Rock” Johnson donning the same red frock. Miley also wore Hervé Léger to the Grammys in February and the London premiere of her movie last month.

“Miley Cyrus is talented and approachable, so working with her sparked a line that is authentic and vibrant,” the demure fashionisto said in a statement.

[from E! Online]

This girl must have absolutely boundless energy. She’s constantly coming out with something new, and while I don’t believe she designed everything in the line, I’m sure she put her own flourishes on it - at the very least, her name will make the items fly off the shelves. Considering the sheer number of Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus products on the market, when she loses popularity she’s going to fall hard.

With Max Azria also working on the clothes, at least we know that the items will be parent-friendly, too - it’s a good thing Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus weren’t in charge of the designs, or they would have ended up with red carpet bikinis for 9-year-olds.

Here’s Miley going out for a bite to eat at the City Wok restaurant in Studio City with a friend on Saturday. Images thanks to WENN.com .

Michelle Obama’s latest designer drama, w/ added Michael Kors conspiracy

U.S. President Barack Obama attends the White House Correspondents Dinner in Washington
There’s some more Michelle Obama designer drama! It was just last month when Oscar de la Renta threw a hissy fit about Michelle’s lack of any major designer couture in her wardrobe. Now the drama seems to be focused on a tug-of-war between Michael Kors and Azzedine Alaia, all over one dress that Michelle wore last week.

It all started when Michelle Obama donned a rather provocative, slinky black dress for the dinner to celebrate Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People. Apparently, Michelle’s people, Time’s people and the thousands of Michelle Obama fashion-watchers all thought the dress was an Alaia. Not so much! The dress was actually a Michael Kors. A Kors spokesperson had to send out a press release to correct everyone:

[Azzedine Alaia’s] dress [was] reportedly being worn by First Lady Michelle Obama at the Time 100 dinner. Trouble is, that square neck tank dress that was part of the First Lady’s widely praised ensemble (along with a Peter Soronen corset belt) on Tuesday evening was actually designed by Michael Kors.

“I’ve been digging out of the Alaïa hole all day,” said a good-natured, if exasperated, spokesman for Michael Kors, which sent out a press release setting the record straight.

The spokesman also obtained a correction from the popular First Lady fashion fan site, Mrs-O.org, where that outfit had drawn hundreds of rapturous comments and guessing games.

The spokesman said the dress was simple enough to go unidentified, but that Ikram Goldman had given the designer the heads up in an e-mail. The erroneous Alaïa credit, which was reported in WWD and many other news sources, apparently came from the White House via Time.

[From Women’s Wear Daily]

Is that enough designer dramz for Michelle? Of course not. Now the rumor is that Michelle felt so badly about the Kors mix-up, she’s pledged her undying support to the designer. The proof? Michelle chose another Kors dress for the White House Correspondents dinner, and she made sure everyone knew it was his. Michael Kors also released a rather ass-kissing statement, praising the first lady:

After First Lady Michelle Obama wore a Michael Kors dress to the White House Correspondence Dinner, some more-cynical insiders wondered whether it was her way of making it up to the designer as some of his outfits have been miscredited by the White House.

Michael Kors himself doesn’t think so, “I am sure a woman as smart and organized as Mrs. Obama knew in advance what she planned to wear this week for both events,” he tells today’s Women’s Wear Daily. “I am honored that she chose to wear my clothes to two events in the same week and looked so chic at both occasions.”

[From Women’s Wear Daily]

I’m sure Michelle did feel bad about the mix-up, and she probably did wear the second Kors dress as way to make it up to the designer. She’s nice that way, or so it seems. When Oscar de la Renta was throwing his fit about Michelle’s fashion choices, Michael Kors was one of the few major designers to stick up for Michelle in a big way. Was Kors bidding his time, waiting to make his fashion move on Michelle? Or does his design style of clean silhouettes and beautiful construction just appeal to a modern classicist like Michelle?

In other Obama-related news, this little tidbit didn’t really warrant a whole post, but I still wanted to mention it because I thought it was really cute. When President Obama met with some of the biggest stars of women’s basketball, he was showing tall girls some major love. Women’s basketball star Lisa Leslie told ESPN (story via Politico) that Obama’s first words to her were, “You know I love tall women, right?” So cute.

Madonna’s bunny-eared Met Costume Gala outfit cost $8805

costume gala arrivals 040509

We spend a lot of time mocking Madonna, but one thing we should always remember is that Madonna is very, very good at keeping herself in the news. Whether Madge is trotting around with boy-toy Jesus Luz, trying to adopt a Malawian girl, or just showing up to an event looking ridiculous, Madonna stays in the news. It’s as if headlines are the only things that sustain her, that good or bad press is no matter, it’s only about the attention.

Her outfit at the Metropolitan Costume Gala on Monday night is what’s sustaining her currently. While everyone seemed to look at Madonna and think “What is on that poor cracked-out grandmother’s head?”, Madonna knew she had a winning outfit. People are still talking about the puffy, ugly Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton dress she wore, as well as her accessories. Like the thigh-high leather platform boots, and the horrible teal headpiece/hat/bunny ears/whatever. Page Six compiled the prices of each piece, and the total price tag for Madonna’s outfit is a stunning $8805. The “bunny ears” alone cost $350!

For $8,805, you, too, can look like a cross between a medieval dominatrix and Bugs Bunny.

Wearing thigh-high boots, a blue minidress topped off with matching blue little girl’s rabbit ears, Madonna (left & right) stunned a crowd — including fashion industry honchos, Hollywood celebs and business leaders who could still afford a $7,500 ticket — at Monday night’s Costume Institute gala at the Met.

These wacky photos show Madge looking feisty and fierce in her $2,696 frock, $3,784 leather footwear and $350 velvet ears. Completing the rabbit motif were $770 lambskin gloves studded with baubles of unknown carats.

She carried a Monogram Paillettes pocketbook that sells for a mere $1,205.

Taking credit, or responsibility, for her outfit was Marc Jacobs who designed it for French luxury label Louis Vuitton.

Madonna’s fashion choice fascinated the media. New York magazine’s Web site said she showed up “looking like a cleaning lady moonlighting as a stripper who washed her Xanax down with one too many margaritas before she changed outfits.”

But it called her appearance “a genius, if not very attractive, fashion moment for her . . . Because on a night dedicated to the world’s most beautiful women, no one — especially a nonmodel — could win by trying to look the most beautiful.”

The Los Angeles Times Web site said Madonna looked “ready for Neverland” and asked, “does she look like the love child of Tinkerbell and Captain Hook?”

Madonna had some competition for worst dressed: Kate Moss in her gold lamé turban, toga and face paint, looked like Norma Desmond if she were still alive and well and clinging to the ’60s in Miami Beach.

[From Page Six]

She definitely loves the attention. She is probably listening to all of the criticism, and thinking to herself “those peasants don’t understand high fashion like I do”. If you have to “explain” your outfit, perhaps you should be wearing something else, though. However, I doubt Madonna actually paid the $8805 for the outfit, it was probably entirely borrowed or given to her. Would you wear that, even if it was free?

Madonna, Rihanna, Stella McCartney in bad fashion at Met Costume Gala

Last night’s Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala was where good fashion went to die. From Madonna to Stella McCartney to Kirsten Dunst, nearly everyone looked horrible, as if they thought the invitation said “wear the ugliest outfit you can borrow”. There were only a few notable exceptions. Eva Mendes was probably the best dressed in metallic Calvin Klein sleeveless gown - critics (like The Daily Mail) might say she’s boring, but taken with last night’s fashion massacre, Eva comes out looking like the most fashionable lady.

After Eva, the rest of the high-profile guests were bad. The most prominent, and one of the worst dressed, was Madonna. She was wearing this sad, navy, puff-ball Louis Vuitton mini-dress, accessorized with thigh-high patent-leather boots. The best part (and by “best” I mean worst) was Madonna’s hair - it looked greasy and unkempt, and she tied this teal fabric-thing into a small little bun at the top of her head… maybe an avant-garde hat? Oh, and Madonna’s date was Jesus Luz. But after that outfit, I don’t think people were paying attention to him.

Rihanna showed up too, wearing a Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo with what looked like puffy, oversized sleeves. It was unfortunate. Stella McCartney also opted for pants, in a horrible black-and-nude lace suit of her design. Blech:

To say Madonna loves the limelight is an understatement. And knowing she was competing for attention among the world’s most glamorous A-listers, she pulled out all the stops as the worlds of fashion, film and music descended on New York for the annual annual Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala.

But the singer’s bizarre mini-puffball outfit, thigh-high dominatrix style boots and starched fabric headdress from Louis Vuitton’s Autumn/Winter 2009 collection saw her veer into the realms of pantomime as she looked less like a Material Girl and more like a bonfide A-list fashion disaster.

It was an even more significant night for the star who is in the midst of an adoption battle for 3-year-old Mercy James, as she stepped out for her first red carpet appearance with toyboy lover Jesus Luz.

Standing proudly as she posed for her close-up, the 50-year-old showed off her rippling muscles in the sleeveless creation, out of which her chest spilled thanks to the well-upholstered corsetry of the minidress.

With her bed head hair, and slightly bedraggled look, the Material Girl’s latest look was a far cry from the flawless appearance she put in at the Oscars back in February. Clearly taking a break from the arduous battle to secure baby Mercy, Madonna indulged in more frivolous matters at last night’s star-studded occasion. But let’s hope the judge doesn’t see this particular outfit, as it might not exactly help her case.

Madonna was joined in the A-list disaster category by singer Rihanna who was making a very high profile return to the red carpet on Monday night. It was her first such appearance since then-boyfriend Chris Brown allegedly beat her in February.

Unfortunately her shiny tuxedo Dolce and Gabbana suit and bow tie with huge puff-sleeved shoulders was not one of the platinum-selling artist’s style hits. The beautiful Bajan born singer, 21, covered up her shapely figure in the unflattering black boxy suit, no doubt disappointing her many fans.

She accessorised her look with a bouffant blonde streaked hairdo, leather gloves and a Mona Lisa smile. Rihanna who has just returned from holidaying in Barbados, was the last celebrity to walk the carpet and did not speak with press.

Meanwhile fashion designer Stella McCartney arrived with her rather well-dressed muses Kate Hudson and Liv Tyler. But it seems that the stardust wore off when it came to dressing herself. Stella opted for a plunging lacy jumpsuit with angled pockets and an tightly waisted obi-style belt.

However, the heavy lace print wouldn’t have looked out of place in Granny McCartney’s parlour and it looks as if the designer’s instincts deserted her in this instance.

Kirsten Dunst’s look was more Nashville than Hollywood, while the usually stylish Gossip Girl actress Leighton Meester’s dress with matching patterned leggings left her looking like a Jack out of the box.

And supermodel Helena Christensen drew the short straw in a mini one shoulder peach concoction emblazoned with the word Vogue - which she was most definitely not.

Olsen twin Mary-Kate was eclipsed in the fashion stakes by sister Ashley who looked stunning in a cowl back Christian Lacroix dress, while her own silver and grey Lacroix gown left her looking like a bar floozie from a western film.

Vogue editor Anna Wintour once again hosted the gala evening at the Metropolitan Museum of Art which ushered in the museum’s spring 2009 exhibition which takes the theme of The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion exhibit.

A stunning turban wearing Kate Moss co-hosted the event along with singer Justin Timberlake. Other guests included Victoria Beckham, Jessica Biel, Gisele Bundchen, Heidi Klum and Agyness Deyn.

From The Daily Mail

Some of the better-dressed women were unexpected - Marion Cotillard wore a simple, elegant peach-pink strapless dress. Diane Kruger managed to look unique and chic in a white mini-dress, complimented by boyfriend Joshua Jackson, looking fabulous in a classic tuxedo. Heidi Klum sort of overdid it in a purple-blue (I can’t really tell the color, I’m sure it’s different in person) ball-gown. But instead of looking overdressed, Heidi just looked radiant. Oh, and I’m sure people are going to be all over Kate Moss’s turban, but that thing made her look like Gloria Swanson… and not in a good way.

Mischa Barton is full of herself; promoting her spring headband line

mischa barton2 230409

I have no problem with Mischa Barton in concept. She’s a mediocre to terrible actress who gets a lot of flak for her weight and thinks she’s a fashionista. And here is where I start disliking her - she just takes herself so seriously. In an interview with People, she promotes the Spring 2009 line of her headbands and explains that her style is so eclectic because she’s traveled so much the past year. You can almost see her agent writing these sound bytes for her.

Style icon Mischa Barton might be known for seamlessly shifting from retro-cool street style and red carpet elegance, but regardless of where she’s headed, Mischa tells PEOPLE.com, “Accessorizing is oddly my favorite part of dressing up.” It comes as no surprise then that the actress has been having fun developing her headband collection with designer Stacey Lapidus. Mischa says that she found inspiration for the hair accessories, which range from $50 to $200, in her jet set lifestyle.

“I’ve been working in the likes of India, Milan, Paris, London, Montreal, L.A, and NYC,” she explains. “My style has been somewhat boho chic, which I think is a result of having traveled so extensively throughout the course of the past year.” And she’s about to get even busier! In addition to her headband line and a collection of handbags, Barton is waiting to hear whether her pilot for the CW, A Beautiful Life, will get picked up for a series this fall. “It was a blast to film and though I’ve only seen bits and pieces [of it], I’m proud of the show and hopeful that I’ll get to shoot some more,” she says. “Since I have an obvious passion for fashion, it was also incredible for me to be offered a role that’s immersed in the industry.”

[From People]

You can check out the headbands here, and I have to say that I am not at all impressed. Some of them you could put together yourself with $10, a hot glue gun, and a trip to a craft store. The beaded ones you could probably find at a quarter of the price at Claire’s or, if you’re feeling really adventurous, a craft show or farmer’s market. It probably doesn’t help that I really don’t understand the headbands that are meant to be worn down on the forehead. To me, they just look a little dumb.

I’m not sure what’s so fashion-forward about $150 fake flowered headbands, but whatever floats your boat, Mischa.

Here’s Mischa and her “style” in London on April 23rd and 24th. Images thanks to WENN.com .
