Andrew Lincoln on Walking Dead: ‘[this] episode is one of the greatest’

Mild spoilers for Walking Dead follow
The Walking Dead is coming back on Sunday. I’m excited, but I also expect to sit through some annoying capsule episodes which fail to reveal the fate of the residents in Alexandria for some time. The first four minutes of the midseason finale have been released and they show Daryl encountering some a-holes from another encampment. We know that Neegan, the baddie from the comics, is coming and that he’ll be played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and we know another spoiler from the comics which I’m not going to write but you can see it over on Pajiba if you’re interested. Those of us who have read the comics feel somewhat prepared but Lennie James (Morgan) says that won’t help us know ahead of time what’s coming.

I think he [JDM] is fantastic casting for the role and the work he has done on the show so far is proof of that, and it’s off the chart. It is such a dazzling introduction that it’s going to blow people off their seats. [Season six] is going to go places that even if you read the comics you’ve got no f**king idea what’s going to happen!”

And Norman Reedus (Daryl) says that everyone is going to clash with Neegan.

There’s going to be a fight. I won’t tell you who, when and where, but I can promise you a fight. All of us are about to clash with that motherfucker. There’s a lot of turmoil in the second half of Season 6.

Well I have read the comics and without naming names there is someone I don’t want to see die. I hope producers listen to fans and spare that character please?

Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus cover last week’s TV Guide. TV Guide has a video interview with them, they’re really jokey with each other and it’s cute to see. Lincoln also promises great things. Despite how annoying this season was, and how much showrunners dragged out the plot up until now, I really buy this coming from him.

The returning episode is in my opinion one of the greatest… I dropped my script when I read it. It’s what I imagine the magnificent seven crossed with the zombie apocalypse would be. And you will see some very beloved characters from the comic book. Also you will see these characters behaving in ways they haven’t behaved possibly since the apocalypse began. Rick has completely changed… episodes all build again to an incredibly intense finale. I certainly think it’s the quickest story wise we’ve moved for long time and as a result I think it’s a thrill ride.

[From TV Guide video, below]

Ok so not a capsule episode. Fingers crossed that’s what he means, but even if he’s BSing somewhat I’ll take it and keep watching, who am I kidding?

Here’s the video interview with TV Guide. Reedus said that in his downtime he’s tried to grow and juice wheatgrass but all his wheatgrass died and Andrew Lincoln said he’s been watching Narcos on Netflix. They also joked about possible crossover shows for their WD characters and that part is pretty funny.

Entertainment Weekly has six collectible Walking Dead character covers this week. They also have exclusive portraits of the characters and a reunion photo featuring all of the now-deceased characters wearing black and with their eyes closed. It’s kind of creepy.

Lincoln gave a statement to Entertainment Weekly about the finale which makes me worried. He said “I felt sick to my stomach when I read the script. It was the first day in the whole six years of working on The Walking Dead that I was late for work because I woke up in the middle of the night and I couldn’t get back to sleep. I was so angry and frustrated and I felt sick. And that was just after reading it.” I think I know what he means, damnit.

Also, Lincoln agreed that his Love Actually character is a stalker. That makes me like him more.

I have a minor crush on Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Please tell me he’s not going to show up here in some douche canoe shenanigans or other, cos am enjoying said crush.

    • H says:

His character in the comics is a douche canoe. Not sure if that will translate into TV.

    • Rachel says:

Umm… sorry Sixer. Maybe you can Netflix some Grey’s Anatomy Denny episodes as a palate cleanser??

    • Lindy79 says:

Maybe don’t watch this then from what I’ve heard from Mr Lindy about the character

    • Sixer says:

Oh, I don’t mind him PLAYING a nasty baddie. I’ll still chuck my knickers. I meant in his real life!

    • gwen says:

This man is so hot and I’m really enjoying watching him on The Good Wife. Even though I’m also a fan of TWD and a fan of JDM I don’t think I’m looking forward to seeing him play this awful person.

  2. David says:

    I can’t wait….. 🙂

  3. Tiffany27 says:

I’m pretty sure Daryl is gonna get Lucille’d. That might be the episode I watch.

  4. Nilber says:

I am hoping they don’t follow the comics on this one.

  5. Tash says:

I’m going to sound like an old nan but Daryl needs to cut his hair and have a good wash. It’s about time.

  6. Boston Green Eyes says:

“Well I have read the comics and without naming names there is someone I don’t want to see die. I hope producers listen to fans and spare that character please? ”

Well, it probably won’t be Daryl (Norman Reedus). He wasn’t in the comic books.

  7. polyphonic pickles says:

I get a 404 code on the Pajiba link and I want to know which thing you could be referencing.

  8. Nancy says:

Hearts farts Valentines Day…..can’t wait for the Dead.

  9. IrishEyes says:

Norman Reedus and Andrew Lincoln….mmmm…I’d love to be the filling between that sandwich!

  10. Pinky says:

And if Lincoln would just add that Love Actually is, in fact, a terrible movie-just a garbage barge of treacly male fantasy sludge, I will put him in my “permanent crush” pile.

    • gwen says:

Aw, I love that movie. We watch it every Christmas, it’s a tradition in our house.

      • Liv says:

We do too and I know lots of people who watch it at christmas. And I don’t think that his character was a stalker. Crap.

  11. QQ says:

Don’t they say this every season and we get a whole season of running in circles and not advancing the plot?

  12. isabelle says:

Well think its obvious who will die this Sunday ….that kid, “mom” “MOM”!!!!..and the Wolf. You would have better luck being chasing down by a bear if Carol is after you.

  13. Goodnight says:

I really liked this season, I think because I was so happy to see comic characters and plots aplenty. Can’t wait to see spoiler person arriving! Definitely my favourite character in the whole comic along with Michonne.

  14. AnotherDirtyMartini says:

I’m always happy when TWD returns. It flies by too fast.
The TV guide video is so cute – I love that they’re such good friends irl.
