Kylie Jenner went against Kanye West, accepted a $1 million Puma contract

FFN_Jenner_Kylie_CHP_021016_51967244

Before Kanye West’s Twitter problem became the current epic mess, he was just tweeting nonsense about his family. Kanye is reportedly – and I believe it – very close to Kim’s sisters. So Kanye took to Twitter last week (before the Taylor Swift drama) to slam the rumors that his half-sister-in-law Kylie Jenner would ever go against the family and take a contract with Puma. Why would working with Puma go against the family, you might ask? It’s because Kanye’s collaboration is with Adidas. Although I’m still sort of iffy on the nature of the Yeezy + Adidas collaboration, but still, he works with Adidas, not Puma. So he tweeted this stuff when he heard the rumor about Kylie getting a Puma contract.

The Kim-cryface emoji NEVER fails to make me laugh. Say what you will about Kim, but that was a brilliant piece of self-awareness. Anyway, as if you didn’t already know, Kylie totally did sign a contract with Puma, because of course she did.

Last week, news broke of a potential PUMA partnership with Kylie Jenner. The deal was disputed by Kanye West, making many headlines for and against the debated deal. Today at Agenda Las Vegas, while stopping by the PUMA booth at Liberty Fairs, we were able to confirm that the Kylie Jenner PUMA partnership is in fact a go.

As originally reported by Us Weekly, the Jenner deal differs in title and role to that of Rihanna’s partnership. Rihanna, who partnered with PUMA in December of 2014, signed on as global ambassador, exclusively wearing PUMA collaborations from her FENTY label.

Conversely, Kylie’s deal will make her a brand advocate, seeing her support specific PUMA products through campaigns and her own personal social outlets. Nice Kicks has learned that PUMA photoshoots with Kylie have already taken place, and the deal is in motion.

[From Nice Kicks]

If you’ve spent any time on Kylie’s social media in the past year, you know that she’s been inking side deals and product placement deals and sponsorships for a while. She keeps shilling butt cream, her makeup line, various clothing brands, etc. I would make fun of it, but it’s actually her career and she makes a really great income from it. This Puma deal makes me sick, but not because she’s going against the Adidas brand. It’s because she’s not even known as an athlete or anything. Puma is just throwing money at her hoping that her millions of social media followers will buy Puma junk because “King Kylie” said so.

Also, Kylie has a grill now.

Kylie will promote their brand but she will also run it into the ground as an athletics company. It will become a fashion brand, but perhaps that is their focus

Also, Kanye seems to have forgotten that it is not, in fact, HIS family. It is, above all, Kris Kardashian’s empire and PMK has the final say in how her minions will bring in the money.

    • Mia V. says:

No one messes with Mama Kris 10%.

    • Kitten says:

As I said on the last post about this, Puma’s been a fashion brand for the past 10 years.
I don’t know anybody who is serious about sports or working out who is brand-loyal to Puma and their “running sneakers” are a complete joke.

      • Alex says:

Same here. My brother loves Pumas but he buys them for fashion purposes not for when he hits the gym. They aren’t athletic shoes at all

      • Bridget says:

Nope. Not for workout wear, and most definitely not for their shoes. Puma’s women’s shoes are similar to Nike, in that they’re incredibly narrow. I have a couple of pairs of ‘fashion’ sneakers from Puma, but I could never imagine running or working out in them because they’re not particularly well fitting at all.

And of course Kylie was going to take this endorsement. She makes good money with her Instagram shilling, but for the most part they’re for embarrassing brands and products. This is a real brand that people actually know.

      • Helena (original) says:

I know someone who has been loyal his whole sporting life for Puma, Usain Bolt.

      • Bridget says:

And he’s totally not paid for that at all.

      • Kate says:

I run in asics or nikes so I haven’t really paid much attention to puma. I kind of thought they were focused on soccer but what do I know! If they’re already a fashion brand then Kylie is perfect.

    • INeedANap says:

I have a lot of respect for PMK. Not admiration, not love, but respect. She turned a bunch of no-talent morons into a multi-million dollar empire. If she’d been a man she’d be CEO of Goldman Sachs right now.

      • Mia V. says:

@INeedANap I agree with you, PMK is really good at managing, if she was the manager of real artists, she would be the one you would go to.

      • K says:

You aren’t wrong, and yeah if she had clients with talent or build her company on that my god she’d might be the most powerful agent/manager in Hollywood because no one has done what she did. I mean lord Oscar winners can’t get these kinds of deals.

    • Fee says:

What they don’t get is how fake these ACCTS are, all the sisters. 50 million Followers yet the likes per photo is 1.5 mil. They buy fake accounts, if they had that many then their sales would go through the roof. Kim had sold30000 selfies books, koko ratings at most 1 mill same as kuwtk. So these numbers r totally made up. N yes, she’s no athlete, sits athome doing make up tutorials, selfies of her outfits, fake lips, uuneducated n vain. I’m banning Puma.

  2. paolanqar says:

Of course she did! No one would throw away a 1 million dollar deal, especially a Kardashian. Also she’ll get really close to Rihanna which in my book is worth a 1000 kanyes.
He really believes his own hype.

    • Dani says:

I mean…I’m not a Kardashian by any means – maybe just my butt that puts KK to shame – but I wouldn’t throw away a million dollar deal either. Like, ever. Very few reasons as to why I would. I don’t think anyone would.

      • Beth says:

The only reason to throw away a million dollar deal is if you think it would cost you more than that in the future. ex: a Hollywood B list shilling butt cream would get demoted to D pretty quick. Kylie’s biggest risk is that people will stop caring about her and her trashy family, so she doesn’t have to worry as much about preserving the longevity of her brand. That said, Puma is definitely a step up from some of her other deals.

    • Bridget says:

A million dollar deal that doesn’t even involve shilling some sort of butt cream or weight loss supplement. This kind of deal doesn’t come around that often for a Kylie Jenner.

  3. Maya says:

Going to sit down, eat some popcorn and wait for the epic rant Kanye is going to through after this news…

    • Michelle says:

Kayne is fickle. He tweeted congratulations to Rhianna on her Puma fashion show. Then she didn’t show up for his show! ha.

All the previous years Kylie has walked in Kayne’s show but this year she only was a guest. I guess his line is in conflict with her Puma endorsement.

      • Livealot says:

The first time is cute but as a serious fashion haus with longevity, Kanye (including everyone and Kylie) realized himself he may have been in over his head. His shoes are decent so maybe just stick to that. And have only a few collections here and there.

  4. HK9 says:

Now if Kanye had any sense, he’d learn something from the K clan. Congratulate the girl on her new contract and then hit her up to be an “investor” so he can get his sorry ass out of debt.

  5. aims says:

Who is Kanye to dictate who someone can work with? Does everyone in that family have to get his blessing before they do anything?

I loathe this family with a passion and Kylie in particular. However, Kanye isn’t the great decider.

    • Chrissy says:

But he thinks he’s the “man of the family” so infallible. Of course, he’s wrong, PMK always has the last word when it comes to money. He’s so delusional…and probably butt hurt. Poor baby.
Admitting that you’re a bad investment for anyone just decreased his credit rating in that family. The end is near…

      • yolo says:

lol.. there are no men in this family. Every man, including the only male Kardashian, has been reduced to nuthin. Kanye is next. He’s just too drunk on krazy to see it. Kris wears the pants. Period.

  6. Birdix says:

This feels like more manufactured drama to draw attention. All driven by fear–my album’s not good enough, throw a Twitter tantrum to get attention. She’s not really worthy of a $1 million sneaker contract, dial up some drama. This can’t be sustainable long term…

  7. minx says:

    Make it stop.

  8. Eleonor says:

So he could not say “I made that girl famous” or stuff like that.

    • Palapao says:

He said “bitch” not “girl” and he also said he could F her since he made her famous. He’s a MARRIED man for goodness sake

  9. lilacflowers says:

Puma and Adidas were founded by brothers who split up so this is actually really funny.

    • Erinn says:

THIS. That was the first thing I thought of.

    • Harryg says:

This is interesting, I didn’t know that. I love Pumas and they always fit me perfectly but now I won’t buy them ever again, yuck this whole thing and that family, spoiling everything.

      • MB says:

Seriously? You love Puma’s but you wont buy them now because Kylie is involved in certain aspects of their marketing? Okaaaay.

  10. Cc says:

Good for her. Who does he think he is anyway. Sit down, Yeezus.

  11. platypus says:

Is Puma still that much of an athletics brand anyway? Not sure I’ve ever seen anyone wearing their gear to actually work out in.

    • Sumodo1 says:

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Puma_sponsorships

This link gives you an idea how “yooge” Puma is in professional/amateur athletics. YOOGE!

    • Elisa the I. says:

IMO Puma has a good strategy as it’s both a strong athletics AND fashion brand.
I personally would never buy Puma running shoes (I usually go for Nike or Adidas) but I own some fab Puma sneakers which were expensive but the quality is excellent.

    • OrangeCrush says:

I dunno, but I have a pair of athletic shoes that are Puma and they are the most comfortable workout shoes I’ve ever owned. Granted, I don’t run in them (I only do elliptical or cycling because of bad knees), but they feel great. However… I will rethink my next shoes purchase since I absolutely refuse to support any brand the Klan is associated with.

  12. Naya says:

The Puma rant was super confusing when you consider that a few days later he was congratulating Rihanna for her Puma runway show. Its like he thinks corporations are actual people.

  13. Shambles says:

“Go against the family” as if they run the freaking mafia. They think they’re so important, but they’re a drop in the bucket. When/ if history remembers them, they’ll be remembered as a sideshow, a distraction from what’s really going on in our world today. They contribute nothing of soul or substance, and it will all fade away like the light fades from their eyes with each Botox injection.

    • NewWester says:

Didn’t Khloe make some statement about going up against the “family” ? I wonder if Kanye and Khloe will have a Twitter smackdown to see who will be the “Kardashian Godfather” ?
Kris Jenner aka PMK/Lucifer’s Homegirl will have to decide on the winner

    • kai says:

      Great post, Shambles! Beautifully said.

  14. Mimz says:

Maybe this was a marketing thing…
No, scratch that. Kanye is crazy.

  15. Tiffany says:

Part of me wants to believe that PMK told him that Kylie will not be signing and then did to add anothet level of narcissism to him. Egg on his face on such a public platform.

    It has began………..

  16. Breakfast Margaritas says:

I miss the days when Kanye made cute danceable party music.

  17. angela says:

Well…Kanye is right about one thing…1 million is measly…rap when she could make a sex tape, like Kim did….and sell it for 2 million

  18. Neelyo says:

She looks like a sad clown.

  19. Allie May says:

The grill is cool, but doesn’t look as if it is setting on her teeth correctly.

    • susanne says:

Respectfully disagreeing with grillz. All of them, on anyone. It looks like blood by her gums. eeeeeeew!

  20. angela says:

Well…Kanye is right about one thing…1 million is measly…esp when she could make a sex tape, like Kim did….and sell it for 2 million

  21. The Eternal Side-Eye says:

So there’s the lesson for the day to Kanye:

He can waste and lose as much of HIS money as he wants to, but he better not dare mess with any of theirs.

This really says something about his role in that family.

  22. Kitten says:

I hate to give any of these people credit, but I actually think Kylie has a cool style and is a good fit for Puma. She wears a lot of sporty stuff when she’s not dressed up and she has an interesting street style. Credit goes to her stylist Monica Rose (she dresses Kendall too).
Overall, I think the Jenner girls dress far better than their older sisters, with the exception of Kourtney.

    • Brea says:

I like the Jenners’ street style too, I’ll admit it.

    • swak says:

Khourtney is starting to dress like her sisters, the see through, showing the cleavage, etc.

      • me says:

She is as desperate as them now. Before Scott used to do all the “pap stroll” stuff so Kourtney wouldn’t have to. Now that Scott is out of the picture, Kourtney has to get to work lol.

  23. Anna says:

At first I read, She keeps shitting butt cream! Hahaha

  24. Decorative Item says:

Grills make everyone who wears them look like a fool. No exceptions.

  25. emmyb1608 says:

Kanye’s rants are like white noise to me now. Not sure why you had to put “step” sister in law though? If the Kardashian/Jenners don’t think themselves as half siblings, it’s certainly no one else’s place to!

  26. FingerBinger says:

Kanye is crazy if he thinks Kylie will turn down money. Nobody in that family turns down money.

  27. kri says:

You never mess with a pimp and her money. Kanye is lucky Kris doesn’t put him on Alley Stroll as punishment for trying to dictate economics in the Koven. As is, she is at least going to ground him for a week,,, and NO CAPS will be imposed. Ask not for whom the bell tolls, Kanye….

  28. anne_000 says:

Why should anybody follow financial advice from someone who’s in $53 million of debt and who gives billionaires a ticking clock to give him money or else ?

  29. word says:

I wonder how those poor little children that have to slave away in factories in third world countries for companies like Puma feel about this? Who does the real work? Who gets all the money? Kylie tweets about Puma and will make a million? This world is so f*cked up. I hope Puma sales go down.

  30. Priya says:

Is it me or does Kylie look more like her Armenian half-sisters than Kendall or even a Jenner?

Maybe Kris had one last fling with Robert that resulted in Kylie?

    • Mare says:

The reason Kylie looks like her Kardashian sisters is because she uses the same plastic surgeon.

      • Velvet Elvis says:

Kylie’s seemingly more exotic appearance is all due to a combination of plastic surgery and lip augmentation, self tanning, makeup and hair coloring/extensions. Her original self was a pale, medium brown-haired, cute but average looking American girl. She looked like a Jenner and nothing like a Kardashian.

  31. Crudites says:

It’s the normalisation of sporting gear into everyday wear. We used to groan at bogans who hung around in carparks in their Nike/Adidas/whatever gear; now it’s seen as fashionable to hang around all day in activewear. So Kylie as a brand ambassador makes sense, as much as I dislike their idiocracy.

  32. Donna Martin says:

Puma is a fashion brand so this makes sense to me. I wonder if rihanna cares. I wouldn’t want to be considered a kardashian equal

  33. Kate says:

Of course she took the deal. That was the point of Kanye’s rant, that ‘they’ would be returning the money she’d already been paid. I’m glad she told him to stay out of her business.

  34. My Two Cents says:

Kanye better remember that he is just a lowly infiltrator to the K Klan, or they will help him remember, as they did Lamar and Scott.
It does amaze me the deals PimpMom has inked for her surgically altered, high school dropout girls. Although, it really says more about our gullible culture today than it does about her abilities.
