The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge returned to Wales today in what was their first joint royal event of 2016. The event? Saying goodbye to the RAF base in which Prince William worked for several years. If you’re a royalist or have an interest in William’s various schemes to avoid royal work, you may remember that William’s placement at the RAF base in Anglesey was a sudden and out-of-nowhere appointment, and one which William sought because he didn’t want to move into full-time royal work. He moved to Anglesey and expected then-Kate Middleton to move in with him and keep house, but the RAF was all “no, that’s not how we operate” and the Queen was like “FFS, just marry her.” Which is how and why William proposed to Kate. After they married, they lived for several years in Anglesey (when Kate wasn’t camped out in Bucklebury with her parents), until William got bored with that and needed a new scheme. The official excuse was that the RAF base was shutting down, which is why William and Kate were there today – this was the closing of the RAF base in Anglesey.
Anyway, Kate wore a repeat – we saw this LK Bennett coat back in 2011 and 2012. So, this is the third official outing for this coat, and I’m pretty sure she’s worn a different belt with it every time. I do enjoy Kate in red – this particular shade really warms up her coloring. The hat is a repeat too, right? It’s Lock & Co. You can see more photos here at the Daily Mail. She was drinking orange juice, not liquor, for the toast or whatever. But she always does that – she doesn’t like to get liquored up in public, pregnant or not.
Meanwhile, did you read this piece in the Daily Beast? Their royal gossip guy, Tom Sykes, talked about how Will and Kate are getting more “political” these days. I think it’s possible that William is getting more political, but I don’t buy that Kate really cares one way or the other about anything political. I think her work with children’s mental health is her press office’s way of trying to provide her with some kid-friendly photo-ops, “just like Diana.”

I wonder if that harsh black eyeliner she insists on wearing all the time is permanent. It really ages her.

I never thought about it that way, but it amuses me that maybe William, not Kate, might actually be the one who really digs that eyeliner and thus she keeps putting more and more on. I always figured guys like less, not more, but of course not everyone is the same.
A friend of mine recently started wearing hers like that. The first time I saw it I thought “Wow, she’s really looking old!” That heavy eyeliner in person is much harsher than what you see in pictures.
She thinks it reminds people of Diana.
I wonder why she’d think that. Their eyes look nothing alike. Nothing about their faces resemble each other.
@Perplexed. Diana wore her eyeliner like that, it was an 80s thing that she stuck with. It looked better on Diana as she had blue eyes and it showed the colour off.
I agree, and I’ve often wondered the same thing. But whatever I think about her makeup, she does have the greatest coats. Whenever I see pictures of her in coat, I want to buy one myself.
Could be. Or it could be that she’s convinced that in pictures her eyes look too small or something without it. If that were me I’d just get eyelash extensions though.

The DM wrote Kate went “bare legged” in FEB???? I have a hard time believing that one.
She’s wearing flesh toned tights. She always does. You can tell by the skin around her feet and ankles. The skin tends to be veiny or shows the bones so when a person is wearing tights, no matter how thin or flesh toned they are, that area always looks unnaturally smooth.
I am surprised Normal Bill has not given Wayne Rooney a ring for the contact info of his hair plugs surgeon.
The article y’all need to check out is the one Emily Andrews just filed for the sun. It’s kind of a retread of what we’ve heard before about William being a reluctant Royal, but it’s one of the more inflammatory pieces I’ve read.
I think yesterday’s HuffPo really pissed off the royal reporting pack, who must feel as though they comply with the ridiculous, shadowy PR smoke and mirrors required by the firm, and yet, w+k team up with HuffPo?! Em’s article felt like payback to me.

@Kirsten. Its not the Firm’s PR but Kensington Palace’s PR who solely look after the Cambridges and Prince Harry. Harry needs to go back to his father’s team.

Yeah, but with that hat, it’s all wrong. I hope with the closing of the base, they all have other jobs to go to–except, for William, of course. He’ll be ok.

I can’t wait till Petulant and Pompous go too far and an editor allows his journalists to REALLY take the gloves off. I can only imagine the dirt the press has kept under wraps for them out of respect, but apparently the lesson about giving respect to receive it got lost. It must have been misplaced along with the lessons on strong work ethics and future Queens not displaying their bits to the world.
The coat is lovely but that hat is hideous! When she finally listens to the celebitches and burns the wedges of doom and her eye liner she should also toss this hat into the flames

Red is her colour but I don’t like the hat on her. Its not flattering at all. Nice comments regarding William and his work ethic, this coming from his co workers. Id say that’s more believable than what some other unnamed source is spouting.
I personally like the hat, I just am not a fan of brown or beige. I think she really does love this hat on herself though. I guess I’m fascinated by how those hats stay put, I’m curious to know what is underneath those contraptions!!!!
