Who had the best street style during PFW: Selena, Gigi or Zendaya?

FFN_Gomez_Dines_CHP_030816_51990652

Every Paris Fashion Week, I always go through all of the photos and try to see if there’s anyone or anything that notable. I mean, you know me – I love to talk about fashion, even if many of you disagree with my thoughts (I will never understand bangs apologists or mullet-dress apologists). So, while I don’t really think any of these photos are worth a stand-alone post, I thought you guys might enjoy some drive-by coverage of PFW street style and show style. Let’s start with Selena Gomez. She arrived in Paris a few days ago, and she’s been getting pap’d in several outfits every day. This denim mini-skirt look is particularly bad, right? This is like the worst of the ‘80s AND ‘90s. I swear, I had that top (it was a bodysuit!!) when I was 16. The worst part? Those knee-high boots. MY GOD.

Here’s a much classier look from Selena later on Tuesday. Even though she’s almost falling out of it, I really like this dress.

Kris Jenner and her Chanel muff. What? That’s what it’s called. I like that Karl Lagerfeld is leaning in to this kind of tackiness – it shows that he knows what will popular with the nouveau riche clientele who want items emblazoned with “CHANEL” because status.

Gigi Hadid’s street style… involves a fur crop top, satin Capri pants, and a cropped t-neck. I mean, she looks beautiful, but this just goes to show you… she could wear a paper sack and look beautiful.

Dakota Fanning at the Valentino show. The whole look is a no for me – I dislike this hairstyle on her and I think the dress is not cute.

Olivia Palermo at Giambattista Valli. She’s sort of professionally stylish, right?

Here’s Zendaya, in possibly my favorite street-style look from PFW. It looks like she threw an afghan over her smart business outfit and I’m in love.

Kaiser! Some of us need bangs/side bangs to cover up our enormous foreheads! I would look ridiculous without them.

All these people with tons of money and a stylist team, yet they look like that? I like Selena’s second dress, but her first one and Gigi’s outfit look so trashy. Zendaya’s outfit isn’t for me but she’s so beautiful, she can pull off anything.

  2. LadyMTL says:

Gah, those boots in the first pic look like fancified compression stockings. With a heel. Ugly with a capital Ugh.

I love Zendaya’s whole outfit, truth be told. I wish I could casually walk down a city street wearing all-white and not come back home all dirty and with my clothes ruined, lol.

    • Cynthia says:

lol right? I love all white outfits too, but it’s basically impossible to wear them often.

  3. Lizzie McGuire says:

Zendaya & Olivia look really good, love Olivia’s shoes. Selena’s outfits are bad but I’m really liking her hair & makeup, especially her hair she’s having good hair 2016 so far. Gigi’s outfit, it’s a no from me nothing makes sense. Same with Dakota’s but her heels are to die for I love them.

  4. BooBooLaRue says:

Olivia Palermo wins best Julia Roberts doppelganger award.

  5. Sara says:

Zendaya and Gigi look nice, I still hate it when people wear fur.

  6. Bishg says:

Zendaya is awesome. She looks good pretty much in anything.
I find Selena Gomez so beautiful, but she often looks trashy.
Gigi seems particularly bored/depressed lately. She’s either going for the tormented, malnourished supermodel vibe, or there must be something else going on with her.

  7. sigghh says:

    Zendaya is just tooooo good

  8. QQ says:

Love Selena’s Second look in specific her shoes and Zendaya’s as well, adore ADORE Dakota’s situation, it’s the right amount of whimsy, also Olivia Palermo’s shoes are fire. i’m not discussing the rest cause why?

  9. Bridget says:

That gray outfit on Zendaya is to die for.

But what’s with the Zendaya push? She’s beautiful and has great style, but I’ve seen her act and it’s not great. What’s the end game here?

    • Lizzie McGuire says:

Same, Lainey posted something about her & Harvey Weinstein mhmm. I’ve never seen anything with her, I know her thanks to Celebitchy but other than that I’ve never seen her in movies or shows. I do love her fashion style, disliked her mullet but forgave her for that.

    • AlmondJoy says:

I like her a lot and I agree that her acting is mediocre, although she’s only really been on Disney shows where everything is over the top and the acting is silly. Even so, she’s a pretty good role model for teens and she speaks on issue that affect young women, especially young women of color. If we can have hundreds of young mediocre white actresses who are famous for their looks alone then I don’t see anything wrong with Zendaya being famous. Selena is also in this post and her acting and singing is sub-par as well.

      • Bridget says:

I’m not saying I mind her being famous, but I’m not a fan of any of the mocktresses in general, regardless of race. Zendaya is getting access to crazy fashion and events that isn’t commensurate with her status as a Disney star – so what’s the endgame?

      • AlmondJoy says:

I guess I completely misunderstood you, sorry. I thought you were wondering why she was famous bc you said “what’s with the Zendaya push?” As for the endgame, I have no clue 🤔

      • Bridget says:

It’s the Disney push. They do this – as their big stars age out, they have someone waiting in the wings to give the next big push. Zendaya has clearly been annointed the next big thing, but what is she going to be doing?

    • Mia4s says:

I was curious about Zendaya given the intelligence she has demonstrated (and she’s certainly lovely) so I sat down and watched some of her work with my Disney-channel savvy nieces…

My god she’s terrible. Just…awful. Sadly the talent does not match the apparent intelligence.

I hope she’s getting some acting classes to go along with this mysterious “push” or this is going to be very embarrassing.

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

        What push?

      • Bridget says:

@Side-Eye: she’s the next big Disney thing. They’re a factory. In the same way that Selena was Miley’s successor, Zendaya appears to have been Selena’s successor. She’s on her 2nd Disney show and as she’s getting ready to age out of there she’s getting a push into grownup stuff. Look at the stuff she’s getting invited to, and the fashion she has access to – that’s not an accident, because they don’t let just anyone in. Someone clearly believes in Zendaya. So what’s next? Selena went with the singing and the acting and saw what stuck (there is a lot of money sunk into Selena’s singing career, she wouldn’t have made it otherwise) and while Zendaya is gorgeous her acting hasn’t been great. I’m genuinely curious to see where this heads. I mean, I’d take her over her “Shake It Off” counterpart Bella Thorne any day!

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

        @Bridget

Eh, that kinda misrepresents the situation. There’s been dozens of girls after Miley and before Selena and they’re all littered through Hollywood right now. Yeah, Miley was a big thing (she did make the company billions) but Selena isn’t even by Disney standards (I have young siblings and am forced to watch this channel often) her individual movie flopped and they haven’t done much for her. If you want to argue that point then you could say that Demi was their big push but even that’s not really true.

“Look at the stuff she’s getting invited to, and the fashion she has access to – that’s not an accident, because they don’t let just anyone in.”

Oh yes they do, lol, Celebitchy usually only covers the big names but you’d be surprised how many people get into these shows that aren’t really famous or special just because they know the roll.

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Unlike most Disney stars she is older, a producer on her own show, and intermittently doing the singing/public speaking thing.

It’s not much of a push. She shows up to events, she speaks up on her Twitter. That’s about all I’ve noticed.

      • Mia4s says:

Disney channel stars do not get invited to sit at Harvey Weinstein’s table at the Golden Globes. Either she or her handlers are making a play for the next level. That’s fine; Great even. My concern is from what I’ve seen she’s not a very good actress. If she’s going to move up a level (and not have to carry Weinstein-girl rumours around the rest of her life) she needs to step up her performance game…big time. It’s the difference between being a Gwenyth Paltrow or a Jessica Alba.

      • Bridget says:

@side eye: Disney is a factory. How do you think Selena became such a huge star? Zendaya seems nice and appealing, but I can guarantee you that there’s major corporate strategizing going on about her career. She’s a company girl, and they take care of them. Zendaya is getting major access for someone of her career stature (though considering what the most successful child stars make, Zendaya could probably buy all of this fashion for herself!)

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

        @Bridget

“How do you think Selena became such a huge star?”

By dating Justin Bieber. She’s pretty much alluded to that, especially very early on when no one knew her and all the tabloids called her Justin’s girlfriend.

I get why the conspiracy theory is fun but in this case it doesn’t really pan out. A lot of current and former Disney child stars have admitted the company pretty much only cares what they do regarding their shows. Once they’re off the clock so long as they don’t break a code of ethics they’re on their own. Shia LaBoeuf, Demi Lovato, Rowen, Zendaya and a few others have had wildly varied treatments and admitted Disney is surprisingly hands off.

Which could be easy to dismiss, “Of course they’re gonna say that.” until you see what careers they’ve gone on to do after Disney or their blunt interviews regarding how Disney treated them. (Told Demi to fix her teeth when she was coming into her own show, cancelled the show when she had problems.)

      • Bridget says:

The Bieber stuff absolutely helped (though weren’t they also a set up) but there was an extremely heavy hand involved in Selena’s career as well. Especially the music (consider how much Miley made with her concert tours during the Disney years). The movies didn’t work out, but they managed to push her as a singer. And that must have taken a ton of money.

And Demi would have gotten a similar push if she wasn’t notoriously unpleasant to deal with (even after rehab) and if she’d wanted it. Selena wanted it bad.

  10. kri says:

Z for me-always. She is more modelesque to me than the Hadidsicles. And deep down into the pit of my soul, I hate those boots on Selena. Take them off and burn them, please.

  11. Cynthia says:

Zendaya has consistently a great street style I also LOVE Selena’s second look, it’s so glamour.

  12. NeoCleo says:

Zendaya hands down wins for all style. Hadid is like a new generation Kate Moss. I found Moss boring to look and I find Hadid to be the same.

  13. annaloo. says:

I don’t like peep toes on boots. It looks like the mice have been gnawing at your shoes in the attic.

  14. The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Zendaya and Olivia for the win.

Everytime I try to praise Selena for coming into her looks without doing the ridiculously awkward sexy thing she immediately does it. That whole outfit is an eyesore. The other outfit is much more flattering to her.

I feel bad for Dakota. Like she needs some supermodel friends and fashion girls to just help her. She’s far too pretty a girl to always be looking like a fashion don’t. I actually like the dress but the hair and makeup (or lack of) just make it look so awakes. Also the terrible heels.

  15. AlmondJoy says:

I absolutely hate boots that show every single toe. An ankle boot with a toe or two is fine but the boots Selena has on are completely hideous 😩 Her second outfit is nice though and I love Olivia Palermo’s pumps! Zendaya is killin it.

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

I don’t know why that first sentence killed me so bad, lmao, tears streaming down my face.

      • AlmondJoy says:

😂😂😂 did it make sense though, the way I described it. Am I the only one that hates that? 😅 I mean her toes look like fingers and I hate it. It’s just so awful.

  16. Lucy says:

Zendaya, obviously. And I still think Gigi’s street style is not great. She can definitely improve.

  17. Adrien says:

Hehe, “street style”. I don’t even know the meaning of that anymore. Zendaya looks like she was covered with a sofa throw. I love her but I don’t really like her style. Her style is unique but very saccharine.

  18. hey-ya says:

…Me tells you who had the absolute loveliest style…Ciara that’s who including her partner &&& that beautiful poser Lewis Lewis Lewis…please come again next year…

  19. Wentworth Miller says:

    Zendaya’s entire outfit.
I like the way Olivia Palermo dresses. She’s always wearing pieces that you’d never think to put together.
    Dakota’s dress is kinda cute.
Selena usually looks like she rolled out of bed and just grabbed the first thing her hands touched, from the floor.

  20. iseepinkelefants says:

Curious as to how far Selena went in that first outfit. FYI it’s currently freezing in Paris. When I saw that I started laughing. 2km away, I’m in a long sleeve, hoodie, down jacket and thigh high socks, cords and boots. With scarf and gloves. It was way to cold to be in that mess of an outfit.
