Salma Hayek plans weekend long destination wedding in Italy

Just last week, People Magazine quoted Salma Hayek denying that she was having a lavish follow-up wedding to her Valentine’s day civil ceremony with billionaire French businessman François-Henri Pinault. Hayek was outspoken in her denial, saying that “I think spending millions of dollars on a wedding is ridiculous and it has never been my dream. I would never do that.”

Salma’s uber-rich husband may have helped change her mind, because now there’s news that Salma and Fran¸ois-Henri are going to have a weekend-long destination wedding celebration in Italy and that they’re flying guests in from all over the world. That’s could cost up to seven figures depending on how many people are invited:

Salma Hayek is saying “I Do” for the second time this weekend, Usmagazine.com has confirmed.

The 30 Rock actress, 42, will wed Francois-Henri Pinault, 46 — whom she quietly married last Valentine’s Day — in Italy.

“They are being very hush hush about it,” a source tells Us of the couple, who are parents to daughter Valentina, 19 months.

Another source tells Us Hayek and Pinault, the chief executive of PPR — which owns Louis Vuitton — are flying their pals to Venice to celebrate for the entire weekend. Ashley Judd arrived today.

It depends on how many people are flown in and what exactly they’re doing, but with a full weekend of festivities planned it’s not quite the quaint wedding that Salma seemed to prefer. It also sounds like something that will run at least a million if they have enough guests and do it up with the best food, accommodation and entertainment. Salma and her new husband definitely have the means to throw a lavish bash if that’s what they want. If this three day party is planned though you wonder if Salma was initially against it and had to be talked into it by François-Henri. Compromises are what marriages are all about.

US doesn’t have too many details and it could be more of a vacation for friends rather than a full second wedding. Given Salma’s penchant for privacy we probably won’t be seeing photos of her on her special day and will have to rely on secondhand reports. Now that the news is out you can bet the paparazzi will be trying to get those shots though.

I don’t understand why people want a second wedding ceremony. Lots of people do, but I just don’t get it. Unless you need more presents, which these two don’t.

There’s photos on Getty of them in Venice already. Her father was qouted as confirming the second wedding to a foreign online source. They’re not going into hock on this wedding, and they had hardly no family/ friends at the first, so more power to them. I hope Prince sings Valentina. How cool would that be?

I am having a second wedding on May 2. It is my one year anniversary. We went to the court house and only had our moms, my dad, and my sis and bro there. His dad and all of his siblings (he is the youngest of 7) could not fit at the court house and it was very last minute (although we had been together 7 years at the time). We are doing it in the church (which means a lot to me) and so our family can share our joy with us. We didn’t even have a cake the first time, it was actually quite sad, this is the real deal to me. I feel like last year was the civil ceremony and this year the wedding. That is why we are doing it, so I can completely understand.

I don’t understand this. She is married already. She HAD a wedding. A wedding is the spiritual and legal binding of two people together in matrimony. Regardless of the circumstances, they are already “wed.” Having a second wedding makes as much sense as reenacting the birth of a child.

What is appropriate here is a party or reception to celebrate the marriage that has already taken place. That’s a great idea! But calling it a “wedding” is a misnomer. It’s not a wedding. It’s a celebration of a wedding that has already taken place.

I love, love, love Venice it is an extraordinarily beautiful and romantic place, but the Venetians are excellent at separating you from your money. There is no way they are getting out of town without dropping at least a million. They shouldn’t feel bad about it though, if my hubby had alot of dough it would be a blast to fly out all our friends to have a big party in an old palazzo! At least they don’t have to pay for the champers! All the Moet you can drink = HEAVEN!

This, from the woman that said she didn’t understand why people spent exorbitant amounts on weddings.

    Hypocrite.

So a French guy and a Mexican women end up getting married in Italy?

  9. Zoe (The Other One) says:

What a hypocrite. Shame, I liked Salma.
