Tom Hiddleston came to Vegas for the ACM Awards: would you hit it?

wenn23705281

I’m pretty sure the Dragonflies knew/suspected this: Tom Hiddleston made an appearance at last night’s Academy of Country Music Awards. He’s still shilling for I Saw the Light, so he went to pay homage to country music and Hank Williams and all of that. I think Tom looked really nice – his hair didn’t look shellacked, and it almost looks like he spent the day doing dirty things in a Las Vegas hotel room (the ACM Awards were held in Vegas). In other Hiddles news, his full Daily Beast interview was released over the weekend – you can read the full piece here. He has a lot to say about music in general, how much he loves Radiohead and Nirvana and Amy Winehouse and more.

I’m including some other photos of some of the “hot guys” at the ACM Awards. Mostly because… you guys, I’m developing a thing for Luke Bryan. I used to think he was a boring country douche-bro, but as time goes on… I think I like him. Sort of. At the very least, I find him attractive. Those sexy beanpoles get me every damn time. Luke was the co-host of the ACM Awards along with Dierks Bentley. The reviews of their performance were… mixed.

Here’s Scotty McCreery. I’m not into him, but some of you might be.

wenn23705056

And here’s Sam Hunt, one of the few highlights from this year’s Grammys. He needs different hair and some lessons on how to pose on the carpet, but otherwise… he looks good.

Final guy: Dierks Bentley, the other co-host. My mom thinks he’s good-looking. I’m not feeling it.

I like the jacket a lot. Well played. I would HIddles, the rest I can find at the shell station down the road. Seriously, the rest are meh.

  2. MexicanMonkey says:

Yes, I would hit it! He looked fantastic in that grey jacket and his legs look miles long.
I’ll be really sad when this promotional tour is over and I don’t have anymore new pics of Tom.

    • M.A.F. says:

He has the Night Manager coming to AMC this month and High Rise to promote so you have at least another month of Tom.

  3. twilly says:

I love the suit. He didn’t seem that comfortable to be there, in my opinion. What do you think?

    • lilacflowers says:

Well, he was a bit out of place. I wouldn’t have been comfortable there. It was deep immersion into popular country music – Tom’s time spent with Rodney Crowell was more traditional stuff. The only performers I knew were Carrie Underwood, whom I don’t like, Miranda Lambert, ditto, and Dolly Parton, who should not have had to suffer with Katy Perry.

      • lunchcoma says:

Yeah, I’m sure he probably did feel a little out of place. He wouldn’t know people there personally, and I suspect he would want to be very careful to strike the right tone – neither going overboard like he did at the MTV awards nor doing something unintentionally disrespectful out of lack of familiarity with the modern country scene. It sounds like he did just fine, but I can see that being something that would make someone a bit tense.

      • Cranberry says:

Me too lilac. I felt out of place just watching it on TV. The popular country scene is very specific not just with what they wear but how “country” they sound. I feel like a lot of them really rack up the country pride thing for these events.

And ditto to Underwood and Lambert. Although at least Carrie put on a spectacle of a show whereas the performances that I saw or listened to were Boring or just cheesy.

  4. aims says:

I like Tom’s taste in music. I think it maybe that we come from the same generation. I’m not into country music at all. It’s not my jam, but God bless to those who do.

    • KTE says:

Same here! In the Sirius interview he was talking about Oasis and Blur and how they remind him of school, and I was like, oh yes so much!

  5. Payapa says:

Need you ask? I would over and over and over.

  6. t fanty fan says:

Hiddles looks good. Luke Bryan sounds like he does not have two brain cells to rub together. I could never find idiocy attractive.

    • Cranberry says:

Same. Luke is what I call try-hard. Plus his teeth are too white if that’s even possible. It’s distracting.

  7. browniecakes says:

Did he present? He was dressed similarly to the other guys, so that’s good. No MTV Movie Awards situation where he was the only one in a suit. When does get to go home? WizardCon in Philly is in early June – will he wander the USA till then?

    • M.A.F. says:

He did present. Not sure what award, I think Entertainer of the Year?

    • lilacflowers says:

He presented the final award, Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year and said that he felt like a “guest.” He also pretty much towered over everyone else there. He was seated several rows from the front and was visible through much of the show.

    • Cranberry says:

Yes he presented the final and top award of the night, Entertainer of the Year. I was surprised they gave him that category. The whole night was major country everywhere you looked and then at the end Tom comes out in a very polished, tailored jacket ensemble. It was a bit of a strange note, but he did very well presenting the award. He did start off saying that being British he’s obviously an outsider, but he quickly followed it up with “but you all sure know how to put on a party.” It went over well I thought.

      • spidey says:

He got a great round of applause when he was announced too, which must have felt nice.

      • Cranberry says:

        @spidey

Well country people are known for being quite hospitable. That or throwing beer bottles at you.

  8. Jellybean says:

    No.

    • twilly says:

What’s with the winking? Seems so phony. Stop it, I say!

      • Cranberry says:

Tom? Yeah, I say stop the winking too. Not going to stop lovin on him though.

      • Cranberry says:

When he’s playing Hank it makes sense. Performers like show some type of personal acknowledgment to fans that are close enough to see their expressions. I guess same goes for Tom.

      • jammypants says:

I found it cheeky, but to each his/her own.

  9. Nancy says:

I’d hit it with a rolled up newspaper and shoo him away. Lol. Don’t find him attractive and certainly not sexy……but I’m sure there are lots of women who do.

  10. NotSoSocialButterfly says:

    Would I? Yes… with a large stick.
    (ducks and runs)

    • Intuitive says:

Ha ha. No neither would I. Just don’t get what people see in him at all. Just another posh english actor who, to me, is unexceptional and lacks range. Sorry ☹️

      • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

@ intuitive – I actually find his creepy looks discomfiting.

      • Cranberry says:

Have either of you seen I Saw The Light? If you want to know why people are attracted to him and find him quite an exceptional talent with Tons of charisma, then go see it.

      • jammypants says:

I didn’t find him hot until his talent got to me. Now he’s an adonis (to me).

  11. bettyrose says:

I don’t know who any of these Country boys are, but one thing I’ve always liked about country guys is they tend to be more . . . IDK . . . filled out. I love Hiddles like he’s the king of all goofy redheads. I’d hit it day, night, and the next morning for good measure, but if we have to go to the country awards, maybe I could just try out one of these cowboys too?

  12. NUTBALLS says:

Hiddles did a fine job presenting Entertainer of the Year. It was all of a minute on stage but a good plug for ISTL.

I don’t usually watch the AMCs since I’m more into Alt-Country / Americana, but I have to say the highlight was Miranda Lambert covering ZZ Top’s “Tush”. She rocked it. Billy Gibbons and Keith Urban on guitars were a special treat too.

    • SusanneToo says:

I have the same taste in country, so I didn’t watch-watched Luther S4 instead. I really hope there’s a S5 and Alice Morgan isn’t really (spoiler).

    • Cranberry says:

Nutballs you were right! I finally went to see ISTL, and Tom’s performance and singing were terrific. I remember your emphatic reassurance months ago when I was expressing doubts about him pulling off a southerner.

I am really so pleased with this role for him especially since I get the impression that TNM is not as good of a role or performance as I’d hoped it would be. I’ve mostly stayed away from any critiques that have been posted here, but I did manage to see the first episode before it was taken down from YT, and I could see that his tendency to nuance might come off as flat in that role. Although I can sense other issues with TNM, I’m going to keep my expectations in check and try to enjoy it. I’m just sorry that the US version will be altered (sanitized) from what you Brit/iplayer CBs got to see. If anyone knows were the BBC versions can be seen online, point me in that direction.

      • jammypants says:

I don’t know what people expected of Tom in TNM. I actually thought he was very spot on with Jonathan’s character. It’s funny because a lot of the complaints are for moments that are exactly canon to the book!

  13. lilacflowers says:

I hit it all night and am wearing that jacket now.

    • Allegra says:

      Me too.
Also love the jacket but i’m not crazy about the hair. Adm really hate the red socks.

      • jammypants says:

The hair is cute. It looks way better in the video of him presenting than in photos.

      • spidey says:

@ Allegra I liked to Coriolanus hair best, shorter on top and longer at the sides. And I’m with you on the socks. I’m old fashioned enough to think they should tone with the outfit.

      • Allegra says:

        @jammypants:
Yes, his hair looks so better on TV.
I think the problem is that Tom is taller than most of photographers and journalists , so it is more difficult to get the right framework. That’s why most of time his forehead looks bigger than really is.

      • jammypants says:

@Allegra, so true! When I saw him in person, his forehead doesn’t seem huge like in photos. It looked normal. And he wasn’t as skinny. He looked meatier. He’s considerably sexier in person. I do think he looks weird in some photos, but in person…there’s no wrong angle. His skin also looked so much better and even toned as well. Cameras can tell lies! 😛

      • Allegra says:

        @spidey:

Yes, I agree with you. That hairstyle suited to him better and made him looked younger.
Well, I think red socks with black pants and grey jacket is a “big no no ” even to the fashion gurus.
Have you see his and Mark’s socks when they did that Q&A in San Francisco?

      • KTE says:

I swear the lenses the photogs use distort the shape of his face.

  14. ApplePieNYC says:

Like a screen door in a hurricane.

    Silly question.

  15. shannon says:

jesus I’m sick of seeing this dude’s face every day.

    • EnnuiAreTheChampions says:

I know, right?!? And then you’re forced to click on the article, where you’re confronted with even more pictures of him, and then you are compelled to type out and post a comment, rather than just scrolling on by such that you’d be subjected to his face for maybe half a second! Ugh, it’s just the worst!

      • jammypants says:

😛 He’s the BF of the (year?) so let him have some love I say. And scrolling past is an option indeed. I had to put up with Cumberbatch for a year and a half. So let us have our moment.

      • Cranberry says:

        Ahahah

Most of the time I never have to scroll past anybody cause I just go straight to his link.

      • jammypants says:

@Cranberry, I finally went into the Royals’ recent posting. Not going to lie. I enjoyed the roasting they got. But it’s usually when it’s well deserved. They waste so much taxpayer money on luxury and have little to show for it. With Tom…well, he’s a working actor who’s not very problematic at all (and that pisses some people off so much haha!)

    • spidey says:

@ shannon It’s pretty easy to avoid.

      • chelsea says:

        Not on this site.

      • spidey says:

@ chelsea – of course it is. all you see is a pic unless you click

      • Cranberry says:

        click, click, click

      • Bay says:

Yes, on this site. It’s not like they post a suspenseful title in the front page, with no picture – every single article is quite clear on whom it is about. Admit it, you just like to whine. :/

      • jammypants says:

You ladies amuse me. Keep it coming.

@chelsea, it’s totally ok to admit you have a fascination with him. Go on. You know you want to. Why else would you continually hate watch all his posts 😉

    • SusanneToo says:

There are worse to avoid-just today there’s the Royal Lazybones, Ted Cruz, the Biebs. I’m still expecting the daily Jenner, Kardashian, West cr*p so that I can sidestep it. Everyday, there’s no more than a couple that interest me-just skip ’em.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

Me, too. But yes, I will post my dislike b/c he is so weirdly creepy to me. I’d like to try to understand what others see in him, but alas, I cannot.

      • Cranberry says:

So are you saying you’ve not seen any of his work or even checked out some of the classic Hiddles videos on YouTube?

      • Bay says:

And by clicking AND repeatedly commenting on it, all you indicate to the site’s manager is that this is a popular subject, and they should keep on bringing in more of it. As a fan of the Creepster, thanks for that! *thumbs-up*

    • Anon says:

Call Dr. Strange…. May he will make him vanish. I for one love seeing this dude’s face. And guess what? No one forces you to look at this georgeous face. With that georgeous smile and that hell of a brain.

  16. Jenn4037 says:

As a fellow Celebitch says – like a screen door in a hurricane!!!

  17. Leah C says:

Yes, I would hit that long-legged guitar picking man (thanks, June Carter).

  18. EnnuiAreTheChampions says:

Like a pair of spoons on Stephen Colbert’s desk, I would.

(Meaning I would. And I would on Stephen Colbert’s desk. And afterwards we could spoon.)

  19. koko says:

Well, love the jacket, nice to see something other than the “blue” go to suit. Love the red/orange socks. I too like to slip some color in somewhere when the request for dress is black/white. Probably drives the host/hostess crazy but that’s me. But mostly I’m wondering what kind of “dirty things” in the hotel room Kaiser is referring to. Was EO spotted??? LOL

  20. EnnuiAreTheChampions says:

I liked the jacket too! And I’m wondering what was on the black-and-white pocket square. Maybe musical notes or something else related to Hank?

  21. Kilo Tango says:

Massive props to his stylist – he has been looking good lately. The jacket is great and LEGS!

  22. Cranberry says:

If I haven’t already said it, I’ll say it again. YES! I’d hit it, and then I’d hit it again.

Then I’d put in on a loop.

  23. TotallyBiased says:

    My kind of tweet.

    • Dara says:

@Totally, I did a little unscientific survey of social media this weekend – and the demographic that had the most praise for Tom and the movie in general were southern gentlemen of a certain age. They liked the film overall and thought Tom was a good, even great, Hank. There were a few grumps, but I was pleasantly surprised there were so many glowing reviews from people that could not have cared less who Hiddleston was, they only cared that he did a good job bringing Hank and his music to life.

      • TotallyBiased says:

That is awesome, Dara–and you aren’t the first person I’ve heard this from, interestingly. Saw it myself this weekend and found the overall movie far better than expected. And Tom’s performance the finest of his career, no doubt.

      • KTE says:

I think it’s actually easier to just sit back and appreciate a performance when you don’t know the actor and haven’t been following all the news about a film. Knowing too much can really skew your perceptions.

      • Cranberry says:

I saw it last night, and I loved it! It was a very nice movie. Yea, Tom! He was wonderful in it, and I agree it’s his best performance yet.

      • Dara says:

Tom was amazing – he completely disappeared and it was Hank up there on the screen.

      • jammypants says:

@KTE, very true! I saw ISTL with no trailer or even a poster so I was pretty wowed with no expectations.

The last time I thought Tom completely disappeared into a role was Adam in OLLA. He really sucked you into Hank’s world in ISTL.

    • chelsea says:

      LOL. Rogue PR?

  24. Magnoliarose says:

Maybe. I’m still not convinced. None of the others do it for me either. I will say Hiddles has pretty eye color.

  25. Jess says:

Hiddleston shows up for the opening of an envelope, he’s getting overexposed again . I like actors who keep the mystery alive. I don’t want to feel like they are in my face. I think people like ejiofor and Ben whishaw have the right idea, they took a leaf out of day Lewis book and keep it more lowkey.

    • TotallyBiased says:

You are honestly comparing presenting the final and most important award of the night at THE Country Music Awards to the opening of an envelope (other than in the literal sense)???!

If the ACM’s are good enough for Dolly Parton, they by golly ought to be good enough for anyone.

    • lilacflowers says:

Do let us know when he opens a shoe shop.

    • spidey says:

Don’t worry dear, he’ll be off filming soon and will disappear for a few months.

    • Anne tommy says:

Oh for goodness sake, he would have been mad to turn down the opportunity to present that award. It’s an honour and it’s publicity and it’s probably fun. And very nice he looked too.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Especially as the studio arranged it; the Academy of Country Music has been promoting the film and his appearance at the awards on its website and Twitter feed for weeks; and the studio bought commercial time to air ads for the film several times during the broadcast. This was contracted work to promote a film, not just show up at an envelope opening for some attention. I think Kiefer wins that award this time around.

      • Cranberry says:

Yeah. At first I was worried that it wasn’t going to be a good fit, him and CMAs. But even if people didn’t know who he was when presenting the award, he was now a mystery to be solved. Most people watching were probably wondering who this Brit playing HW was. Why did they pick him? The only way to really find out for yourself is to go see the film. So it was actually a very smart thing to do regardless of him being an outsider.

    • Bay says:

Opening a letter counts as overexposure now? Damn right! I learned waaaay too much from the way he unfolded that piece of paper! Can’t handle it!! Every single movie he was, and ever will be in, now ruined and spoiled. 🙁

Perhaps Tom should grow a hipster-long beard, and move to the Bouvet Island for ten years, eh? And keep him away from office supplies! I don’t know what mysteries will be revealed to us if he ever comes across a paper-clip!!

    • jammypants says:

He’s on a promo tour. This was part of it and agreed upon between the film’s studio and the awards organizers. The producers clearly are trying to sell the movie to the country music crowd. This is just the right type of exposure and perfectly aligns with the promo tour.

    • NUTBALLS says:

Jess, it’s called promotion for a project that he is contracted to do, whether you like it (him) or not. He’s doing what every other actor is required to do in support of a film that their “employer” put money in to. What do you not get about that? Why do you hold him to a different standard than the others?

If he’s promoting something that has nothing to do with his work or a charity, it qualifies as the “envelope opening” that you accuse him of. Every event (incl ACMA) and interview he has given for the past 9 months has been in support of one of the FOUR projects that has/is coming out.

He’s not in your face, either. I manage to avoid reading about celebs much, much bigger than Hiddles, so I know it’s well within your power to avoid him. I skip over 80% of the CB posts. It’s your choice to click, read and comment. Keep it coming… it ensures we get more of Hiddles posts.

      • jammypants says:

He’s only in your face, depending on the blogs you read and their level of dedication to him (like those Bustle ones lol)

And what’s more, he promotes his projects specifically but constantly get asked unrelated questions, then in print, they add the words “desperate” (for Bond) and “the end for Loki” (for dodging Marvel questions).

I’m reminded of the Glamour Awards in 2012 (that patent leather tie, reowr).
    http://www.fanpop.com/clubs/tom-hiddleston/images/30986949/title/glamour-man-year-photo

A patterned coat and black slacks are great look on him. Do I spy red socks (I remember seeing red underwear during Avengers press tour). Speaking of red, I laughed at a couple of the pics from SF Q & A – when he crossed his leg the bottom of his shoe was like a stop sign.

  27. Cranberry says:

If anybody is on the fence about seeing ISTL, go see it. It’s actually a really nice movie. You don’t have to be into country music to enjoy the story and performances, but actually the music that was rerecorded was really good.

I’m not a big fan of HW music. I know it and appreciate it, but I don’t seek it out. However the recordings they did of his songs for ISTL I’m probably going to buy. They did a really good job updating the sound and recording quality while still keeping it simple the way they were originally. And Rodney did a great job with Tom’s voice. I don’t care that he may or may not sound exactly like HW voice. He sounded great for the film and for the music’s own listening enjoyment.

    • Dara says:

I really enjoyed the music too. I’m glad they didn’t try to nail Hank’s voice exactly, interpretation rather than imitation was definitely the way to go.

For all the issues I have with the film (and I have a few), I’m going to give Marc Abraham huge points for doing at least two things exactly right – hiring Tom and hiring Rodney.

      • NUTBALLS says:

“For all the issues I have with the film (and I have a few), I’m going to give Marc Abraham huge points for doing at least two things exactly right – hiring Tom and hiring Rodney.”

I would agree, Dara. Tom and Rodney’s long days in the studio really paid off dividends in the film.

      • jammypants says:

Agreed. Both worked hard and were brilliant.

      • Cranberry says:

You know after all the criticism M. Abraham has gotten for it, I’ve got to hand it to him. All the things he got right were far more impactful than things he missed. I thought I was going to come away from the movie feeling unsatisfied, but instead quite the opposite. I’m not sure what others were expecting from this movie. Something bigger like “I Walk the Line”?

I really like that this movie was more intimate and subdued. I know some think it should have shown more of the impact Hank had on American music, but it can be very daunting to cover so many extremely high and low dramatic points of a biography without seeming too strenuous and removed from the intimate story of Hank that Abraham was trying to show.

I’m not saying that it didn’t have it’s flaws, but it certainly wasn’t terrible or even bad in any way. The biggest problem aside from not showing all the music & fame from a societal point of view, was that it may have been hard for people to understand why HW was the way he was and did the things he did. Yet most biographical pieces of conflicted people never get it all right and to everyone’s satisfaction. Not to make excuses for Abraham but some people are always going to confound us. They cannot be neatly wrapped up into little boxes with definitive explanations.

So with that in mind I think Abraham did the next best thing, and what I think was always his intention, to create a personal experience of Hank. To feel what it was like to be in his life. In that endeavor Abraham hit it right many times over. The biggest problems seem to come towards the end with bringing Hank’s story to a poignant closing without it just seeming like a bunch of sequenced events loosely stringed together. Then again there were many chapters in Hank’s short life so it would have been difficult to condense them into the story without it seeming extraneous and muddled.

Hank’s life was tumultuous and his death abrupt and depressing. Casting Tom to play such a complex person humanizes him and makes him relatable. Tom’s performance allows people to have an endearing empathy and compassion for a troubled cultural hero like HW.

      • TotallyBiased says:

Oh, Cranberry, you got it just right!
I’ve been trying to explain to people why I like the movie as a whole so much more than I expected–Tom, of course, I expected to blow me away.
Reading negative reviews, I notice that a lot of people seem mad because MA didn’t tell the story the WAY they thought it should be told. For example, as you mentioned, showing more of Hank’s impact on the public. But a lot of stuff is implied, or talked about in passing/through the lens of a character’s reaction (Audrey and the newspaper–don’t want to edge into spoiler territory!)
And I wonder would they have enjoyed it more if they simply had less specific expectations?
It really is a wonderfully intimate movie, that requires the audience to put a little work, a little investment into it. Which, now that I think of it, could be said of Only Lovers Left Alive as well.
