Blind item: who did Solange Knowles shade as ‘rude & annoying’?

A lot of people love Solange Knowles’ style. While I think Solange always has better style than her sister (Beyonce), I also think that Solange goes too hard on the “quirky” thing. At various times, it feels like an affectation, a forced-hipster-ness. So while I enjoyed Solange’s crazy-pants “Lemonade” ensemble at the Met Gala, I also rolled my eyes a little bit. She’s having fun, for sure. But she also wants people to know that she’s so much more avant-garde than them. This attitude was summed up when Solange tweeted this AT THE MET GALA. Like, she was tweeting out sh-t while she was at the gala.

“Shout out to when you think you all “artsy and sh-t” , but your just rude and annoying lol.” That was quite a burn. Solange’s followers were having fun guessing about who she was referencing. Could it be Kanye West? Kim Kardashian? Kylie Jenner? FKA Twigs? All of the above? Or perhaps it was someone else… who could it be?

Ouch. If Solange was throwing shade at Taylor Swift, there will be repercussions! Bad Blood Volume 2: Lemonade Sucks, by Taylor Swift.

    Lady Gaga

    • LadyAnne says:

      My first thought too !

    • Naya says:

      My first guess too.

    • Abbott says:

Ohhhh that’s a good guess. I was going to go with Zayn and his Gadget arms but Gaga makes much more sense.

    • Kitten says:

I really hope it’s Gaga-that would be amazing.
Annoying yes but is she rude though?

    • JenniferJustice says:

Oh. I thought you guys were playing a game – whose dress does that look like? Lady Gaga. But I get it now – who was the rude blind item? Sorry, It’s early. But Dang it! I was going to guess Bai Ling for the dress style.

      • MC2 says:

Bai Ling could fit for both. If Bai Ling was invited to the Met Gala then I would pay more attention.

    • Greenieweenie says:

Me tooooo! Why did everyone’s brains just go to exactly the same place? I think it’s the “artsy”

    • Otaku Fairy says:

Lady Gaga was my first thought too. Then Madonna, then Katy Perry, then FKA Twigs, then Taylor Swift. But it was probably either Gaga, Madonna, or Katy Perry.

    • amilu says:

Probably. Taylor definitely doesn’t come across as believing that she’s “artsy and sh*t.”

    • Mgsota says:

I think it’s Madonna since the story came out that she was making everyone wait on her.

      • Tiffany :) says:

I agree. Apparently Beyoncé and Solange were a part of the group that had to wait while Madge cleared the red carpet to be photographed alone.

    • Priya says:

Agree, But Katy Perry seems like someone who says rude and insulting stuff then plays it off like she was just kidding and you’re too sensitive.

    • Tiffany :) says:

I think Gaga would fit the “artsy and shit”, but not the rude part. Most people say she is very kind and fawns over other artists.

    • raincoaster says:

It has to be. Taylor Swift is a pop singer, not an AH-tist like Gaga.

  2. Sam says:

I don’t think it was Taylor. Taylor can be annoying but I don’t think she’s ever come across as rude. It was probably Lady Gaga because she thinks she’s artsy but really she’s just rude and annoying.

    • nicole says:

I agree. Taylor isn’t going for artsy and she certainly doesn’t come across as generally rude (I guess don’t ask Katy perry…)

    • denisemich says:

      Kanye, Lady Gaga or Madonna.

kanye has actually said he is the greatest artist

We all think Lady Gaga’s Artsy crap is old.

Madonna wore her ass out to this ball. That was just rude.

      • Yup, Me says:

Solange was also apparently one of the people kept waiting while Madonna and her ridiculous cheeks (uppers and lowers) walked the red carpet so I cast another vote for Madonna.

    • K says:

I agree Taylor could fit the annoying but not rude and in that picture she seems to be behaving friendly and welocoming which was her job. Taylor has been rumored to be a lot of things artsy and rude aren’t them.

I will agree with Gaga. Kayne knows better then to upset Bey.

    • vilebody says:

Taylor even makes fun of those “artsy” people with “indie records that her so much cooler than [hers]” in We are Never Getting Back Together. I think it’s Kanye.

    • Jegede says:

That’s who I think as well.

I read somewhere Kanye West rolling his eyes behind her back last year, when Twigs introduced herself to him or something like it.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

I’m on board this train. I can see Twigs grating on Solange, given that Twigs has talked so much in interviews as being firstly an artist. She (FKA) is a great vocalist and a songwriter, can dance like no one’s business, and makes some avant garde fashion choices. Direct competition for Solange. Tee hee, drink that bitter tea, Solange.

    • Chaucer says:

Twigs would be my first guess. Lorde is my second.

  4. Anett says:

I am so tired of these Knowles sisters.

  5. SilkyMalice says:

Look, she dressed herself in a cupcake liner. How…. um.

Also, I love Taylor’s little food belly. My daughter is tiny as well, but when she eats and/or slouches (kinda like Taylor is doing) *pop* goes the belly.

    • nicole says:

Oh my, I have to disagree with you about Taylor – I had to scroll up to see what you’re talking about and that certainly isn’t a belly. Some curvature there is normal and shouldn’t be called a belly as that makes it seem like something we should aspire not to have. I know your comment wasn’t mean spirited it just seems like it’s pointing out something that’s not there.

      • Gerber says:

Agreed. If that qualifies as a belly, god help the rest of us with normal bodies.

  6. Jwoolman says:

Okay, she looks like a lemon in this outfit but she’s just having fun with it…

But the color certainly does suit her. Above all the yellow, she really does look beautiful.

  7. teatimeiscoming says:

    Willow and Jaden Smith?

  8. Jumpin says:

She apparently doesn’t know what projection is–or how to spell.

    • Rhiley says:

Yeah, the you’re/ your thing is one of my pet peeves. It is hard for me to take someone seriously when they are like, Your to ugly to care about!

      • Bunny says:

The spelling was the first thing I noticed. Seriously, learn how to spell.

      • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

        @ Rhiley- Hahahahah! 😂

      • Laura-j says:

I’d be horrified if my typo was all over the news. When I was online dating a misplaced your would end that boy’s chances.

      • Jess says:

Maybe it was just an auto correct mistake

      • Nat says:

I too was deeply disturbed by her use of “your.” “You’re” is a contraction of “you are.” What’s next? Elbows on the table? Shoes on the furniture? There are rules. And then there are Rules. I’m all for breaking grammatical convention in the interest of expressing human language more accurately. Her “your” only expresses ignorance more fully.

  9. stara says:

Are you going to edit your Beyoncé post where you say she arrived alone now, and use that as part of your argument about her being more accessible? I mentioned it on that post and I don’t mean to be pedantic, but I don’t see the point of keeping something that is clearly not true up.

    • Naya says:

Solange wasnt Beyonces +1 and they didnt walk the carpet together. Solange always gets her own invite to this because she is legitimately considered fashion forward. I dont even think they arrived together!

      • stara says:

I honestly don’t understand how that distinction means anything. She was there. With her sister. It says in the post she was not. I’m not pretending like any of these ppl are ever really alone, it’s just a glaring non-truth.

      • mme says:

        Solange wasn’t her +

      • mme says:

Solange wasn’t her +1. She scores her own invite. Actually Solange came up 5th on most searched Met Gala attire since 2004. She’s quite popular for her fashion and she wasn’t Beyoncé’s date. Again

  10. Azreen says:

Please let it be Taylor Swift

  11. Louise177 says:

I think Gaga, Madonna, and Katy Perry are the most likely people. I don’t think Taylor has ever thought of herself as artsy.

    • michelleb says:

Agree about Taylor. But, has Katy Perry ever thought of herself as artsy either? She’s definitely kitschy. I’m hoping she means Gaga or Madonna.

  12. sills says:

I’ll admit I usually love Solange’s style. She just has an aura about her that lets her carry off the weird and offbeat with panache. This Ruffles potato chip ensemble I’m not feeling so much.

  13. Emma - The JP Lover says:

Maybe she was talking about herself?

  14. Neelyo says:

I can’t get past the bad grammar.

    • Cherry says:

IKR? Frankly, I don’t even really understand her tweet- might be because I’m not a native speaker, but perhaps also because it’s poorly spelled and grammatically incorrect? Shout out to whom? You think you.. what? Your [cat? dog? sister?is] just rude? What the what? WHO KNOWS what she meant by it, and/or if it’s even a blind item?
Side note: I don’t understand the commotion about tweeting at the Met gala. I bet lots of people were tweeting there, it’s full of fame-hungry wannabees dying to let everyone know they are at the Met. Of course they tweet about it. A bit tacky, sure, but not quite unusual, I guess?

  15. Naddie says:

It was about Beyoncé, or herself.

    • mme says:

i know you want it to be Beyoncé so bad but solange actually loves her sister a lot. in her own words she “worships” Beyoncé. Both of you wouldn’t probably get along if you think she shaded her sister. She consistently calls out the “fans” who only like her cos they think she’s a more genuine version of Bey.
As for the shade, it wasn’t share at all. Homegirl was talking about herself and explained I the next tweet when someone asked her

  16. Dena says:

  17. Felice. says:

It was about Uniqua from the Backyardigans, GOD. (she joked on twitter)

  18. Jade says:

    Nicki Minaj or Demi Lovato.

  19. Personally, I think it’s rude to post a tweet like that.

  20. Ldub says:

    She looks like a tomale.

  21. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I hate blind items. Just say it if you must, or don’t say it.

  22. Lucy2 says:

I have to go full Ross Gellar “you’re means you are…your means YOUR!”
As for the guess,I vote Katy Perry or gaga.

  23. Melibea says:

    That’s Kanye!

  24. VL says:

Perhaps someone who resorts to violence during an argument and speaks behind others backs shouldn’t lecture on manners.

  25. Drs. Fixxie says:

  26. Elisa the I. says:

    can only be herself!

  27. Melissa says:

My first guess would be Solange Knowles, but since she’s the one who said it, I’m stumped.

  28. kri says:

I thought Gaga or Katy Perry

  29. Brittney says:

    No one’s gonna guess Anna?!

  30. Kimma says:

Why is she invited to these events? What does she do, besides be Beyonce’s sister, anyways?

    • cynthia says:

She’s been featured in Vogue and she has a good career as an indie r’n'b singer.

  31. Chrissyinoz says:

    You’re 🙄

  32. missmerry says:

STFU Solange, nobody cares about what you think. She’s such a brat, ugh.

    • stoner says:

She could have written this about herself.

“When you think you’re clever, but you can’t even spell “you’re”.

      Eat sh*t, Solange.

  33. Crocuta says:

That dress looks like she’s permanently standing on a fan.

  34. HoustonGrl says:

Maybe she was talking about herself.

  35. Jessica says:

Subtweeting is pitiful. Have the courage to own your opinion if you’re going to put it on a public forum for global consumption or keep it to yourself/text it to your friends. I like Solange and Beyonce both as artists but this shit is so lame.

For what it’s worth, I don’t think it’s Gaga. “Artsy” fits but I’m not sure rude does. I’m kind of doubting that it’s some A-lister. What she said probably applies to nearly everyone in attendance and could be anyone. I really want it to be Kanye, but she’s known him for years so it wouldn’t be news to her that he’s rude, annoying and pretentious. I hope it’s not Twigs. Twigs seems like the kind of alt-R&B artist Solange would support, but maybe not. It kind of fits I guess. Demi Lovato also fits for me. Like with Becky, we’ll never know…

(Also, if she’s not self-deprecatingly talking about herself then wow she has no sense of self-awareness.)

    • Brittney says:

…subtweeting is replying to tweets. A subtweet is a tweet organized beneath the original tweet. Am I missing something?

      • stoner says:

Sub-tweeting is more commonly used as a word to describe talking about someone with out “@ing” them or outright naming them. On FB, it’s known as “vaguebooking”.

      • Jessica says:

I meant it in the way stoner describes. ^ A subliminal tweet is when you direct comments at someone without addressing them. People also pull this stuff with Facebook statuses when they don’t want to directly confront someone but they want the satisfaction of feeling like they put them in their place.

      • Brittney B. says:

Got it… thanks for clarifying. I didn’t realize there were terms for it — passive aggressive comments/statuses have been standard since Day 1 for both Facebook and Twitter — but it’s kind of amusing to learn the names.

  36. Bobafelty says:

    Whatever, origami big bird.

  37. mkyarwood says:

    K Stew!

  38. Zadie says:

I love Solange, she’s carefree with a greay her music/fashion taste. Methinks it was probably Twigs; maybe Solange tried to approach her as a fan (she makes the kind of music Solange has on her label) but Twigs brushed her off. I hope not because I like Twigs, but who knows…

    • Zadie says:

    • Starkiller says:

Am I the only one who thinks she could be talking about Twigs’ fiancé? He’s almost always rude, and definitely comes off as trying really hard to be artsy. Maybe she did approach Twigs, but he was the one who was rude to her.

      • Another Anne says:

Huh? When has anyone ever referred to Robert Pattinson as rude? On the contrary, most people talk about him being really nice and down to earth. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone describe him as artsy either.

  39. nikkisixx says:

When you think you’re the cool sister, but post a lame blind to get attention.

Come on Solange, you’re better than this,

  40. Saks says:

She is just trying to get some atention… Anyway my guess would be Twigs, Gaga or Katy Perry

  41. FingerBinger says:

First Becky with the good hair now a blind item tweet. Beyonce and Solange know how to get attention.

  42. OTHER RENEE says:

Madonna. For making everyone wait while she flashed her butt to the world.

  43. The Original G says:

I love her outfit. It really is avant-garde. The Met Ball used to be about fashion people pushing limits with imaginative garments. Now it’s just a commercial runway for twitter stars and designers who will lend them boring old lady clothes.

  44. hiddlesgirl85 says:

Who says that she was referring to a celebrity?

  45. Mary says:

Kinda strange to shade someone else’s sense of style when you look like a giant daffodil.

  46. Katie says:

Honestly, she’s the one with the bad attitude. And she doesn’t look artsy, she just looks ridiculous. So yeah, she should sit down and stop shading people. Take the high road.

  47. Brasileira says:

Didn’t she wear this same outfit last year, in another color?

  48. Toot says:

Zoe Kravitz. I saw a piç of them talking and that description totally fits her.

  49. cakecakecake says:

Kanye and his circus of crappy style and traffic stoppers.
