CB watched all of the Billboard Music Awards last night, and she said it was better than the Grammys this year. Which is setting the bar pretty low, because except for a handful of performances at this year’s Grammys (Kendrick Lamar), the Grammys were THE WORST. They were so boring. One of the reasons why the BBMAs were good this year? Because Rihanna came out AND performed (after canceling at the Grammys last-minute). And she killed it. Rihanna walked the carpet in this vintage Thierry Mugler shirtdress which… I like just because it wasn’t a little black dress. Rihanna performed a song off of her new album, “Love on the Brain.” It’s soulful and sexy and it was considered one of the best performances of the night.

Anyway, here are some more photos from the BBMAs. Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn attended the event together because they’re in the new movie Bad Moms. Mila wore Zuhair Murad, Bell wore Jonathan Simkhai and Hahn wore Altuzarra. I don’t really like any of these looks, but if I had to choose, I guess Mila’s is the cutest.
Jessica Alba & Lucy Hale also wore Zuhair Murad. They’re basically wearing variations on the same t-neck LBD, and the look is too wintery for a May music show.

Agreed. It was all so mediocre, even Pink with all of her glitz and effects, then came Rhianna. Wow. Her emotion and grit and powerful vocals were moving and this record is the best out there now.
She looks horrible. Like an 80s secretary. For someone so pretty, she has the worst style. I neither like her voice nor her music ( nor her), so the performance was meh to me.

Anyways, I was surprised she could actually sing this song. I didn’t buy it was her on the album tbh. She did such a good job.
I generally like Riri – and I think she is stunning and can get away with almost any outfit, but…. I agree, she looks like an 80’s secretary. Are there shoulder pads in that dress? I haven’t seen her performance yet, but I haven’t been overwhelmed with Anti songs I’ve heard on the radio thus far and I’m usually a fan of her music. Maybe the radio is only playing the catchier music with less substance, though. I’ll withhold my criticism until I’ve listened to the album and seen her performance, but this dress is a no.

I loved RiRi’s performance! Her voice has come a long way. I got the feels watching her, she was awesome.
What a different side of her, I like it! And her voice definitely improved, I know people who went to her show years ago and thought that she can’t sing at all.

Always had a huge girl crush on her but she’s developing into a really significant artist now too. I think that’s the best I’ve ever heard her sing (live). Impressed.

What I really like about Rihanna is that she can really go away and give you time to wonder where she’s gone or what she’s up to. It is nice to see a celebrity trying to be in your face when she has to work and take time off when she’d done promoting her stuff.
That tattoo on her ankle is awful and she should burn those shoes but she is the most beautiful woman I have seen in my life.

lol. I was wondering if we watched the same performance. Considering she’s been lipsyncing most of the songs on her tour, there wouldn’t be a reason to not at least try. I don’t think she killed it tho. Even Ariana Grande or Miley can’t get away with this. But I think the standard has already been set very low so if she manages to stay on key it’s a good day. Or she probably ate the humble pie seeing as her tour is flopping. HARD.
How is it flopping? I tried to get tickets to a show in my state, then nearby states, and everything bar the super expensive packages was sold out. Maybe some dates haven’t sold out, but everything in my area did, and fast too.
Rihanna is the second highest selling female artist of all time (Madonna’s No.1). I don’t know why people have to front like her albums and tours are failures, she’s at the top of the game!

Girl please that’s only because RIAA conisders streaming a part of the sales nowadays. She’s a singles artist. She hasn’t really sold those many records on her own like Madonna, Whitney and Mariah.
She was perfect. I don’t believe in reincarnation, but If I did, I would so come back as RiRi (except for the Fist Brown part, but she learned). Fearless and true to herself.
Love Rihanna’s look and can’t wait to listen to the song. And I love Kathryn Hahn so much. She killed it on Parks and Rec.

I don’t hate Kristen’s jumpsuit. I honestly don’t like Mila’s dress at all. It looks like a weird cupcake situation.
She sings with passion, that’s good. I just don’t really care for her voice. It sounds bad to me. There’s something really grating about it. I understand some people like it. That’s cool.
Rhi rhi has stage presence but she is not a great singer and the first few bars of the song were rough. I saw her in concert a few weeks ago and was pretty disappointed, she doesn’t sing live and barely dances.
Agreed listen to this performance eyes closed & it’s average. She didn’t stay in her high range long enough for the song to have impact the way it did on the album. I feel like people are congratulating her for sounding better than usual. Which is a low bar cz she talk sings most of her songs. She has not improved from when she rocked up on the scene. Listen to her a capella performances at the beginning of her career her head voice was stronger in the music of the sun days. Like listen to other artists & you see growth. The difference in anti is she chose cooler songs. That’s what makes it her best album. Not actual vocal progression people who say that are stans or people who never followed all her ballads. But her stage presence is strong. She has enough dramatic effect for u to know when to cheer or clap even if the sound in her voice isnt hitting the note it’s supposed to.

I think she bailed on the Grammy’s because she really just couldn’t sing as well as she wanted to. Claimed it on being sick but seems like it had more to do with her partying during NYFW. Since she’s been touring she’s been getting better with her vocals. It’s clear she smokes a lot and it’s affected her vocal chords so she seems to let her audience sing 1/2 the song and she gets away with it – but it’s Rihanna it’s not Adele. You aren’t going to see Rihanna based on her vocals.
That performance really changed my whole opinion of her. I never really knew she could sing, let alone interpret a song like that.
This song is the highlight of her new album. Much better than the Wa Wa Wa song… 😉 She could benefit from some vocal coaching though… She does have a good voice in there somewhere…
