Game of Thrones Episode 6.7: who is really ‘The Broken Man’?

GOT3

SPOILERS for Game of Thrones Episode 6.7, “The Broken Man.”

Before the episode aired, there was a lot of speculation that “the Broken Man” was none other than the Hound, Sandor Clegane, last seen knocking on heaven’s door when Brienne of Tarth bested him one-on-one and he was left to die by Arya. I do think that the Hound was supposed to be the eponymous Broken Man, although let’s be fair, there are lots of broken men these days. Jamie is broken. Edmure Tully is broken. Theon Greyjoy is broken. Jon Snow is a bit broken. Even the High Sparrow, in his fanatical way, is broken. So, let’s get to this week’s super-depressing episode. Oh, and we finally know who will win the Game of Thrones: a 10-year-old girl named Lady Lyanna Mormont.

The Kingslayer meets the Blackfish. Finally, we got to see Bronn! And while he only had a few lines, they were great. I liked the joke about “that’s like saying I have the biggest c—k among the Unsullied.” I could really feel how Jamie is uncomfortable leading men in a military situation – remember, he’s been part of the Kingsguard for a really long time, and his father was the better military strategist. I like that the Blackfish is really just a tough, grumpy old dude.

Poor Edmure Tully. I actually feel sorry for Tobias Menzies! He’s in everything these days and he’s a really great actor, but he hasn’t even had any lines in the past two episodes. And no one gives a sh-t about Edmure enough to actually kill him. The Blackfish was like “okay, just kill him them.”

Yara Greyjoy is amazing. We already knew Yara was amazing, but she’s just so strong in every way. The Greyjoys are on their way to Meereen to meet “the Dragon Queen,” Dany. But they stopped at a port for ale and ladies. Theon is jumpy and Yara gives him a pep talk and basically tells him that she needs her brother back, she needs the real Theon back. Then she goes off to have sex with a lady. Because Yara is a lesbian! Go ahead, girl. Get yours.

Queen Margaery’s patience. While I’ve previously enjoyed the High Sparrow’s manipulations before (and how great is Jonathan Pryce in this role?), when he said that bit about wives only needing “patience” and not desire for their husbands, I was like “Yeah, I’m done.” The High Sparrow is trying to get Margaery to bang King Tommen because they need an heir, or else all of the High Sparrow’s machinations are for naught. Meanwhile, the High Sparrow gives Margaery a heads up that she needs to get her grandmother out of Kings Landing. And yes, Margaery is playing some angle. She’s not brainwashed. She’s plotting.

Lady Olenna’s final burn. I mean, I hope this is not the last we see of Dame Diana Rigg, who is fabulous, but it does seem like she’s getting the hell out of Dodge and we won’t see her for a while. So one of her final acts was to tell off Cersei one final time. And it was glorious. Cersei can’t die fast enough as far I’m concerned.

Lady Lyanna Mormont. I spent too much time thinking about what her connection would be to Jorah… is Jorah her uncle? Great-uncle? Well, whatever. Lady Lyanna doesn’t need anyone. That 10-year-old girl is ready to SLAY. Davos, Jon Snow and Sansa stopped by Bear Island to plead with Stark-friendly houses for more men to fight the Boltons. Lady Lyanna is not one for small talk, and she even threw down some excellent shade at Sansa. Is it Sansa Bolton, or Sansa Lannister? BURN. But she is loyal to the Starks, so she gave them 62 men, but not before they had to grovel. Lady Lyanna will sit on the Iron Throne, mark my words.

Jon Snow, Sansa and Davos. They’re traveling to different houses, begging for men and working out their pitch. I know we’re supposed to think “Sansa is feeling herself these days” and while I do enjoy proactive-Sansa, I do think that people would respond better if she came across as less haughty. Who did she write to at the end? Most people think it was Littlefinger and the Vale troops. Hey, at least the Free Folk are with Jon! WUN WUN STANDS WITH JON SNOW.

Arya Stark didn’t learn enough. My God!! I hoped that Arya would be smart enough to set a trap for The Waif. I hoped that Arya would be on her guard completely. She was not. The Waif (wearing an old-lady face) got the drop on her. Arya was stabbed several times in the stomach and she dropped down into the water. I guess The Waif believes that Arya is effectively dead, but Arya – bleeding heavily – is walking around Braavos looking for help. YOU ARE KILLING ME, GAME OF THRONES.

The Hound, FINALLY. Most book-readers believed that The Hound survived and became a character known as the Gravedigger. The show kept the essence of that – the Hound was found half-dead by Brother Ray, played by Ian McShane, and nursed back to life. Brother Ray and his group are non-violent and they seem to be building a small church. The Hound is much the same man he always was, not particularly loyal to any house or group or idea, but he does like Ray and I got the sense that the Hound would have done a lot to protect his friend and the group. Instead, the Hound was away in the woods while Ray and the group were slaughtered. Are we supposed to believe that those douchebags from the Brotherhood Without Banners came back and killed them all? Probably. Is this the last we’ll see of Sandor Clegane? Doubtful. But the Hound is basically a blank slate at this point – he has no loyalty in the petty positioning between houses. EW also did an interview with McShane – go here to read.

Next week promises a reunited Jamie and Brienne, plus Pod looks like he’s in danger. If I had my way, Pod, Lady Lyanna Mormont and Ghost would be sitting on the Iron Throne. With Gendry doing something somewhere.

    The Hound!
    Bronn!
    WunWun!

A Girl needs medical attention and then a Waif best watch out.

    And Lady Lynna Mormont rocks!

    • Sixer says:

      Also bonus Tim McInerny!

My best thing about GoT is spot the old favourite TV actor. I spose it’s not quite the same for you American types.

      • lilacflowers says:

At our house, we do try to connect the actors to where we’ve seen them before. Boyfriend calls it the Six Degrees of Harry Potter/Downton/GOT. He shouted out “Blackadder!” during McInery’s scene.

And I must say that Tobias seems to be making a thing of scenes without dialog. The scene in The Night Manager when he couldn’t answer the phone was brilliant.

      • Sixer says:

GoT honestly is six degrees of British acting! At least as bad as Potter. Makes me laugh every time.

      • DiamondGirl says:

It is! I just finished watching all the episodes of Vera and Rose Leslie was on one, and Davos was on another!

      • lilacflowers says:

Quite a number were in Potter. And The Hollow Crown. And Downton. And Rome.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Edit on my last post: quite a number of GOT actors were in Potter. And The Hollow Crown. And Rome. Sad we never got any scenes with Mance and Edmure

    • TreadStyle says:

      @lilac Yes!!! Spot. On.

  2. easi says:

I thought arya would have been so much smarter.

    • Whatwhatnot says:

Yes! After all this time and her being taught by the Hound to be weary of people and every thing she has been through it makes me wonder if that was even “rel” or a vision sequence, or as someone pointed out below, even her. It was such a rookie mistake. She knows how these faceless assassins operate and she was just so sloppy! I was hoping she would go all Daredevil and wait for the Waif in the Dark in order to fight her on her terms

      • Katydid04 says:

Same! I almost wonder if it is really Arya, or if she just put her face on someone else because she knew the Waif was after her…….because it seems like such a dumb move to just go up to some random old lady and get stabbed!

    • Jen43 says:

It was just bad writing. The Arya I know wouldn’t have made that mistake. It’s like they wanted her to be helped by someone, maybe that actress she saved. It was out of character for Arya.

      • Josefina says:

Awful writing on both parts. The Waif, who let’s not forget murders people for a living, would’ve known better than that too. She had her right there, why didn’t she cut her throat? But then again, I’m pretty sure a stab like that in real life would kill you pretty fast. Especially if you’re thrown into a not-particularly-hygienic river.

      • Nopity Nope says:

As soon as Arya jumped into that river, I turned to Mr. Nopity and said, “well that’s a great way to die slowly of sepsis,” jeeeez Arya

    • Rachel says:

That was so ridiculous. There’s absolutely no way she’d be wondering around Braavos so freaking carefree! She knows they’re coming for her. How did she go from hiding in the dark to practically skipping through the streets? Horrible writing.

    • Sisi says:

What makes you think she isn’t though? I hardly believe that we were to take those scenes at face value.

    • Nikki says:

Me too…I was prepared to hide my eyes when Arya killed Miss Nasty: surprise on me 😖

  3. Momoko says:

The little one playing Lyanna was amazing! You see the stark difference between a kid Bran ruling, and Lady Lyanna.

Lyanna and Jorah are cousins. Jorah’s father, and Lyanna’s mother are siblings.

    • ShinyGrenade says:

Lyanna’s mother was actually the daughter of Lord Mormont sister. So, Jorah is her great uncle!

      • KS says:

The first person was right. Lyanna’s mother was Magee Mormont, sister of Jeor Mormont, who was Jorah’s father. They’re cousins.

    • Rachel says:

That child was EVERYTHING last night. I did not care about the Hound. I did not care about Margeary’s long game. I just wanted more Lyanna Mormont!

  4. Louise177 says:

Loved Lady Lyanna. Ironically a ten year old girl seems to show the most leadership. I expected more from Arya. But I feel like there’s a twist with her stabbing.

  5. Abbott says:

    WUN WUN!!!

OF COURSE as soon as Arya goes back to being a Stark she makes a fatal error. I love that family but damn they are naive sometimes (see also Sansa thinking the North would rally around her).

This trial by combat isn’t going to end well for Cersei, I think. High Sparrow probably has something up his sleeve.

    • Size Does Matter says:

How could Arya possibly survive that wound? Either major plot armor or there is a less literal twist. Maybe waif wearing old lady face was really Arya wearing waif face and old lady face? I have a feeling it was plot armor and the actress Arya saved will now save Arya somehow. Magic?

      • JustCrimmles says:

The second she hit that water, my brain screamed INFECTION!!! Then when lady wasserface didn’t see her stumbling, where’s the safe predictability, GoT?!

      • Katydid04 says:

Yeah, she’s pretty much dead unless she gets surgery, and I somehow don’t think they have high-quality medical care in Bravos. So fingers crossed there is a twist somewhere, or otherwise where is Mellasandre when you need her?

      • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

Magic? Magical medicine? How did the Hound survive his? Those details aren’t important, I guess. It’s difficult to believe her character’s story would end so abruptly and so undone.

    • Becks says:

      Wun Wun and The Hound!!!
      That is all.

  6. lindy79 says:

Woooo. At least now we know why mc shane had zero fecks to give about spoilers.

And… i know I’ll prob get railed for this but…. Sansa is annoying me. All her I’m a Stark you have to follow me stuff with zero understanding of how Rob basically screwed over northern houses who had pledged alliance to him and they got decimated as a result of him backing out of the Frey alleigance (which is still going on). I was actually glad when she got told off. Also.. trust Jon and Davos, you have zero battle or strategy experience! Tell them about littlefinger and the Vale.

    • justcrimmles says:

Yup. She’s come so far, but still has miles to go.

    • mom2two says:

Sansa is annoying me too but I am guessing that she had no understanding of what happened in her brother’s war campaign or chose to block out (as whatever she was told in KL about him happened off screen). However, I will add in the books that Red Wedding is taken as an affront to both the gods and men and the Northerners are mad about it (and hate the Lannisters, Boltons and Freys-not just for the Stark deaths but for the deaths of their families) , the show-on the other hand-it’s just something that happened because Robb broke his allegiance to the Freys. The show’s version of the North Remembers story line is inferior to GRRM’s version. In the books the Northern houses side with Stannis because they don’t want the girl they believe to be Arya to marry Ramsey! Plus the show is adding that the Northern houses are not too keen in siding up with the wildings.

    • msd says:

I think some people don’t want Sansa to have faults. It’s ridiculous because pretty much everyone on the show has faults. She isn’t a bad person by any means but she grew up being quite bratty and snobbish. Her sense of highborn superiority around people like Jon (a bastard) and Davos (lowborn) isn’t going to just vanish.

    • Rachel says:

Yeah. When she started whining that they needed more soldiers, that’s when I started screaming at her. Petyr had 6,000 soldiers for her! And she told him off! That was her decision. She didn’t share it with Jon.

  7. justcrimmles says:

A waif, like Jon Snow, seems to know nothing. I’m hoping she has failed her test (to not let Arya suffer, not to mention actually killing her.) Bitch gotta go.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

Yes. A gut wound would be the slowest and cruelest way to inflict death. Big fail for the waif. Maybe Jaquen will find Arya and heal her, as he had such admiration for her.

      • Lady D says:

Unless the waif tells Jaquen how she killed (she’ll always be Ashildra to me) Arya, how will he ever know?

  8. Aiobhan says:

Sansa and Jon had a really bad episode. You know you need to go home and re-evaluate your life choices when a ten year old successfully verbally smacks down two adults. What Lyanna did in her five minutes on screen blows Sansa’s new attitude completely out of the water. Lyanna is the real Queen of the North. I am also not hear for Sansa questioning Davos but still somewhat trusting Littlefinger. Maybe things will change by the end of the season, but right now, Sansa is still a flop.

Arya was also just plain stupid. I love her but she is just stupid. How could she not think they she was going to get away unscathed. I so need her to kill the waif and kill her now.

They wasted too much time on the hound and wasted Ian McShane’s time, I don’t feel too sorry for him or Tobias though. They both got paid to do little to nothing.

    • mom2two says:

I don’ t know how Arya could logically survive those stab wounds other than plot armor.

Davos is the brain trust of team Davos, Jon and Sansa. They should have let him do all the talking. Sansa is really haughty this season and I had to laugh when Lyanna Mormont basically smacked them both down but listened to Davos. I’m pretty sure she wrote to Littlefinger. I’d like to know where she got a Stark stamper from. I’d also like to know how the Hound did not hear all the commotion of the people and Ian Mc Shane dying.

Finally, finally someone on this show remembered that it was Cersei who landed the Tyrells and Kings Landing in all of this mess with the Faith. Go Oleanna. I figured Margarey was playing the High Sparrow all along.

      • Aiobhan says:

I both loved and hated that scene with Olenna and Cersei. I loved the the fact that she has been reading Cersei for the filth that Cersei is, but it makes me think that either Olenna or Maergery is going to die because of Cersei. I care nothing for Margery but I would be very upset if Olenna did not make it to the end.

      • Whatwhatnot says:

That’s what I thought. Arya was stabbed in the belly and the Waif made sure to really turn that knife in her gut. She shouldn’t be able to survive that, even with medical attention. The only way I see her surviving is if that was a vision and not actual events, or maybe it wasn’t even her as someone below posited.

      • Pamela says:

“I’m pretty sure she wrote to Littlefinger. ”

Seems to be the general assumption, and makes sense. Like a dummy, I forgot about Little Finger and assumed she was writing to the house that she had wanted to go to, the one that Jon sad they didn’t have time to travel to and hence they would “fight with the army they had.”

I am worried that her raven will be intercepted by Ramsey. 🙁 And then he will know they are coming, and that they need more #s. Boooooo!

    • Talie says:

I get why Sansa is skeptical of Davos. Remember, she was at Kings Landing when Stannis was defeated badly. She knows he blew it big time.

    • JohnnyT says:

My sentiments exactly. Sansa has wasted precious time when she should have swallowed her pride and taken Littleginger’s offer from the start. If Ayra had just stayed with Brieanne she would’ve been with her family by now. That is one dumb child. Sorry. Not a fan. I remember when she left the Hound and Brieanne and sailed for Bravos looking all smug, I thought: wow what an imbicile. What was the logic in that? The Starks are not that smart

  9. Jenns says:

I demand a Lady Lyanna Mormont spin-off. Make it happen, HBO. And I’m loving the women this season. They really are leading the way here.

Oh, and Jamie and Brienne may have to fight next episode? That could lead to some great make-up sex, right…?

And I am so ready for Clegane Bowl. The Mountain vs. The Hound. Get hype.

  10. Patricia says:

Oh my how can you wish death in Cersei?! She’s everything! I couldn’t even watch the show without her fabulous shade-throwing face and self-centered machinations. I love her hahahah.

  11. Eve says:

Ten bucks Arya will be rescued, once again, by “A Man/ Jaqen H’ghar/sexy Jesus”. He DOES seem to have a special bond with her.

I always thought Yara was super badass. When she tried to rescue Theon from capitivity, the only reason Ramsay “I look like a Lego toy” Snow/Bolton wasn’t torn to pieces was those damn dogs.

And the Waif failed his request to not make Arya suffer (nor killed).

P.S.: T. Fanty, thank you for your kind words in response to that essay I wrote you.

Also, a shout out to the other CBitches I love. Will be away for a while.

    *waves timidly*

    • Sixer says:

      Jaqen IS sexy Jesus!

See you when we see you, Eve. Always thinking of you and wishing you the best.

    • lilacflowers says:

*Waves enthusiastically!* Be well, Eve. Yes. A Man is Sexy Jesus.

    • isabelle says:

Think she will picked up by Yara and Theon…..or ends up on the run after joining the theater troop. The scene where it looks like Arya is jumping off of a roof, looks very similar to where they were docked. Its one of the two. There is a fan theory floating around Arya is the Waif, on Huffington Post, she is a duel personality but just don’t see it.

  12. Talie says:

That was not Arya — 100% it was Jaquen. Everything about how she was moving last night was not how Arya would move, and there’s no way she wouldn’t have had needle on her. She was prepared last week for an attack, and this week she’s happy-go-lucky? Jaquen is doing some kind of test on the Waif.

    • Clara says:

oooooh I love this idea I didn’t even think of that!

    • Jenns says:

      Good theory.

    • maria says:

can they have faces of living people thou? But I agree something is fishy about it. Last week – sitting in a dark cave with needle. This week – walking around openly without needle. Also agree that Waify failed in two ways. A man will not be happy.

    • DiamondGirl says:

if it is Arya, I think that actress lady will save her.

    • jetlagged says:

This is what i think too. I feel like he developed a special bond with Arya that he keeps giving her a chance and maybe now he’s just willing to let her go and live.

    • FingerBinger says:

This makes sense. Arya preparing for a fight last week then admiring the scenery this week didn’t make sense.

    • JenniferJustice says:

Yes, Please!!! The person who got stabbed did not move or act like Arya. She did not have “Needle” whom she hasn’t let out of her site or hold of since she fished it out of those rocks. I beleive it was somehow a test for the waif and she failed miserable. She not only stabbed her in the gut which is a slow painful death, but she skewered her and twisted it. My instincts tell me Jaquin set the waif up to prove she disobeyed him and prove she is “a girl with no name” because she can’t seem to shake her hatred for Arya which is personal. I don’t get why she hates her so much, but it’s personal and therefore, the waif is the one who is “not ready. ”

I want Arya to have her chance at the waif. I want her to dig her eyes out and then beat the hell out of her with a stick/pole. Too much? Did I got too far?

      • Nance says:

I agree, the Waif has way too much personal grudge to be a ‘girl with no name’.

Plus, nice theory. I though it was weird for Arya to look the scenery and don’t use Needle. So I think it’s either bad writing or Sexy Jesus.

      • dj says:

The Waif has got to go! Agreed a 1,000%. I cannot believe how much I want her to die a horrible death by Arya’s hands!

    • isabelle says:

oh, like this one. His expression was a bit neutral after he ordered the Waif to go after Arya. A look of she was my favorite, but you will do for now.

    • megsie says:

      Syrio = Jaqen

  13. Cate says:

I think we are all going to be blown away by something crafty Arya did. I don’t think all is what it seems based on how she was acting to how she was dressed, the lack of her having needle on her… Something is fishy.

  14. Lucky says:

Fun fact (for me at least): GRRM is a huge football fan (of both NY teams which is weird). Anyway, he named the character Wun-Wun after SuperBowl winning QB Phil Simms., he’s a Giant and Simms jersey number was 11 (one one).

  15. CFY says:

Book readers, does anyone think the show might do LS after all? A friend told me he heard a rumor before the start of the season, and I’ve been trying to fight the hope, but the last few episodes plus the feeling this is the season of reunions/old characters resurfacing is making me wonder.

Loved Olenna’s smackdown of Cersei, and I was totally expecting Davos to intervene at House Glover and thus set up the tour of the North as “Jon and Sansa f–k up, Davos saves the day.”

    • Jenns says:

No, I do not think they will do LS. Even GRRM said recently that as far as he knows, she will not be on that show.

That doesn’t mean she won’t make an appearance, but I don’t know how they would introduce her at this point. I think someone else will take over her story line.

      • dj says:

Unless, (this may be far-fetched) LS could be Arya if the stabbing is fatal. It could be another way to introduce and still have LS but as someone else. If you follow my vagueness?

    • msd says:

GRRM mentioned last week that she had been cut. He doesn’t lie about stuff like this. I’m personally fine with it – she isn’t relevant to the plot really, at least not in a way that couldn’t be taken by another character. I also think it would be a bridge too far in terms of characters returning this season.

  16. Soprana says:

Why on earth did they rename the Septon of the Quiet Isle? And why is he called RAY????? He’s Meribald in the books. Even if they wanted to change it, I’m sure they had an infinite amount of medieval sounding names at their disposal. And they go with Ray???

    • elle says:

Right? It’s like he time-traveled in from a blue-collar comedy.

    • Chinoiserie says:

He is Elder Brother in the books and has no name, Septon Meribald is differnt but similar charcater.

  17. Eve says:

Misplaced observation about The Waif. A Man won’t be happy he not only fail at killing Arya, she did so sadistically.

They’re supposed to not have any feelings towards their victims, non? Neither good or bad. What they do is a job for a pay. Not vengeance or pettiness.

The Waif seemed a waaaaaaaay too satisfied when she stabbed Arya.

    • lilacflowers says:

They serve the Many Faced God. The Waif was serving herself, way too smug and satisfied. The Many Face God will not be happy. A Man will not be happy. A Man will deal with the Waif. Just as soon as this Woman lets a Man out of her bedroom. And shower. And any other random areas of the house where this Woman wants to play with a Man.

    • lindy79 says:

She was. Far too smuggy and happy.

Hope you are well Eve xxx

  18. grabbyhands says:

Yo, GOT-I used to like you and Imma let you finish, but Preacher is the best new Sunday night shoe EVAH, and there needs to be a column about it.

But seriously, I find that I enjoy reading about GOT more now that I stopped watching it.

    • lilacflowers says:

Is it really good? I haven’t started watching it yet but I intend to because … Dominic Cooper.

      • grabbyhands says:

SO good!! I mean, if you like that kind of thing-and I do. 🙂 Dom is great and Ruth Negga is my new queen. Plus, the bonus of Joe Gilgun!

      • Lilacflowers says:

Ooh! Didn’t know Ruth Negga was involved too

  19. Whatwhatnot says:

I don’t think it was the Brotherhood Without Banners that slaughtered the Hound’s new community. It’s not their M.O. They were created basically by Ned Stark to bring Gregor Clegane (The Mountain) to justice for his crimes in the Riverlands. Their alliance even consists of some of Ned’s own men. And though their cause has shifted from siding with the North, because they were disgusted at how some of the North alliance were dealing with the common people, they decided to fight on the side of the poor folks and not affiliate with any House.
Anyway I think it was Lannister men who did it, which sets up the motive for the Hound to become a Champion for the Faith in Cersei’s trial by combat, ushering CLEGANEBOWL! (get hype) and also fulfilling Maggie the Frog’s prophecy two-fold.

    • Lilacflowers says:

I would say it was Nymeria’s pack except she can’t hang anyone.

    • JustCrimmles says:

Are they affiliated with the Melisandre crew? The night is dark and full of terrors and all that. Random murder and pillaging doesn’t seem like the red god’s deal.

      • Whatwhatnot says:

Not really affiliated with her, they just all worship the same God, the Lord of LIght, instead of the Seven or the Old Gods. They just happen to be followers of the same religious denomination as Melissandra

    • JustCrimmles says:

Yes, I worded that poorly ☺ not the cult of Melissandre, but the Lord of Light. Is there an actual rundown of the beliefs of each religion in this series? I think that’d be an interesting read. Is slaughtering a group of seemingly innocent people ok in his book (or scroll or what have you) really on brand with a deity aligned with light? Up is down, down is orange, GoT is confusing.

      • Whatwhatnot says:

Although Melissandra likes to light people on fire, I don’t think the BWB would just randomly slaughter a bunch of innocent women and children. They have’t been know to do that. They may steal some food to eat, or grab or a horse to use, but they usually do it because they say they need it to further the cause and then drop an IOU to them and let them know they will be paid back once their war is over lol. But keep in mind that their original mission was to bring the Mountain to justice. So I think, even though he is Zombie Mountain/Robert Strong there would be some poetic justice there.

    • JenniferJustice says:

This! I’ve been waiting for the Hound v. the Mountain. And they’re setting it up now.

    • isabelle says:

The Hound is obviously the hound and they may have known this when they saw him. The scar, the big, the hound. So them doing it to lure him over, maybe. So many directions because they could also just have a new leader and who would be the new leader?

  20. Neal says:

The Hound. The Hound was everything this episode. It was good to see him back.

And the waif failed. She failed BIG TIME. Makes you wonder if that was her final test?

And you know who else failed? Jamie. Blackfish was not impressed nor should he be. Jamie has some redeeming qualities but he’s so weak and wrapped around Cersei’s finger. Blackfish had him figured out from the get go. I get he loves his sister (blech) but hopefully coming face to face with Brienne will trigger something honorable in him again.

    • Soprana says:

Keep in mind Jaime doesn’t know that Cersei slept with Lancel yet…

      • Neal says:

Oh yes. I overlooked that little gem…

      • Pamela says:

        Wait Who is Lancel?

Is that her cousin, the one that is in the Sparrows? Or someone else?

      • Lilacflowers says:

Yes, Lancel Lannister, son of Kevan, cousin to Cersei. She slept with him and got him to poison Robert’s wine. He joined the Sparrows and confessed and ratted her out.

      • M.A.F. says:

I thought he did know? In the book doesn’t Tyrion tell him while he is still locked up?

  21. Diana B says:

I know people here love him and stuff but I thought all those minutes spend on the Hound were a waste of time. I was like, get on with it already! Lady Mormon was as badass as you can get. That was awsome. I can’t believe Arya let her guard down. That was so stupid! Even I could see that was that stupid waif. I can’t wait for Arya to kill her. Sansa writting to Little Finger is exactly what he was plotting to happen. Me thinks that’s not going to sit well with Jon.

Those scenes from next chapter were omnious. Seems like the Brienne and Jamie’s reunion will not be a happy one and I can’t believe how stupid he is being about Cersei. I was really hoping he would just set himself free of her but nope. He’s as under her as ever.

  22. Josefina says:

Soooo happy for Margaery. At some point there I was really scared she was actually brainwashed by these idiots. And I’m ready for all those fanatics to die. I respect High Sparrow as a character and player of the game, but I’m so over that plot.

I adore Sansa, but she’s still dumb. Strong, but dumb. Sansa has shown the slowest development of all characters in the series, but I like it that way. It would make no sense for a princess who was taught all her life about sewing and singing, to suddenly become a brilliant military strategist and poltician.

I’m totally shipping Yanaerys. A lesbian plot twist is what Dany needs.

  23. M.A.F. says:

My god do I want to be Lady Lyanna Mormont when I grow up. She better live damn it.

    • isabelle says:

i want to go back and watch the scenes of her mother in the Stark camp. Bet she was just as awesome as her daughter. one of my favorite lines ever on GOT

“My mother wasn’t a great beauty or any other kind of beauty. She was a great warrior, though, she died fighting for your brother Robb.”

  24. elns says:

My assumption was that Sansa was writing Little Finger and I was shaking my head. No girl don’t do it!. She’s talking about taking back Winterfell and bringing back the glory of Stark in a sense yet she’s basically going rogue. The Starks aren’t as savvy as we all want them to be. We just like that family best.

Arya is my case in point. I think she’s gonna drink the waters and pass the test one way or another.

A friend of mine who enjoys going down the GOT rabbithole sent me this. I have to say, it’s a rather delicious possibility: http://www.bustle.com/articles/164939-are-arya-the-waif-the-same-person-this-game-of-thrones-theory-is-so-crazy

  25. Angelica says:

The more I watch the High Sparrow, the more I want him dead! He’s such a power player at this point and I was really hoping that he would end up being just another old, knowledgeable dude whose affiliation might be wrong but could spout out truths and wisdom from time to time, but nope! Aemon, Qyburn, and Three Eyed Raven he is not. Just a religious zealot pressuring a royal to make whoopie lol. The actor is fantastic, though, I’ll give him that. Even though I am yelling “die, die, die” every time I see his character. Grrrrr…

  26. Andrea says:

I was so happy to see Bronn finally. He was hilarious as always!
