Kim Zolciak’s video of her daughter wearing a shock collar: jackass or joke?

I don’t think anyone watches any of the Real Housewife shows to get parenting tips, and if you ever thought any of those ladies would make good maternal role models, you might want to think again. Former Real Housewife of Atlanta Kim Zolciak recently posted a video to Snapchat of her 14-year-old daughter, Ariana, wearing the family dog’s shock collar. What? Why?

Apparently, Ariana offered to wear – and get zapped by – an electronic dog collar in exchange for being able to go out with her friends. Kim, who recently celebrated her 37th birthday (again?), called her daughter “crazy” while she put on the collar. Ariana said “I really like this” and before Kim’s husband Kroy Biermann gave her a jolt, you could hear him say to her, “But you can’t cry.” Sounds like something straight out of “Jackass”, doesn’t it? Only it’s not in the least bit amusing.

Kim continued her running commentary through the clip, saying, “You like getting shocked, you psycho? You two are not right,” She later added, “Are you guys idiots?! Who does this? These two are not right, I’m not even playing.” Oh, and Kim did offer an alternate to wearing the dog collar, helpfully offering Ariana the option to “Eat poop.” Yep, mother of the year. What an odd household. It’s no wonder Ariana has already expressed her interest in being emancipated and living with her sister. Check out the video from Entertainment Tonight.

Of course, the outrage was swift. A Real Housewife fan tweeted, “Sometimes in life you have to just not post things on social media. My word just sad that she posted what she did.” One person who was more surprised than outraged was Kim’s older daughter, Brielle, who jokingly questioned her sister’s sanity, writing, “Ariana what is wrong with you?”

As much as I think the while thing is dumb, it’s not like Kim forced her daughter to wear the thing – but her decision to post it to Snapchat might not have been the best idea. Kim told ET she liked the social media networks the best, as people can’t talk back and make comments about her posts, claiming “Snapchat is my newfound love.” As for her haters, Kim shrugs them off with a dismissive, “if you don’t like it, don’t look at my page.” Ugh.

The woman is clearly an idiot. But why are dog shock collars even allowed for dogs in the US? They are awful, and are banned in much of Europe. Train your dog in the proper way.

    • T.Fanty says:

I agree. If it’s too painful/traumatic for a human, why the hell is anyone using it on a defenseless dog?

      • Sixer says:

Because training dogs properly (that is to say, positively) takes time and effort, presumably.

These things are an outrage. They’re banned in Wales but still, disgracefully, allowed in the rest of the UK.

    • Erinn says:

I’ve seen ‘rumble’ collars which at least don’t shock, they vibrate from what I’ve heard. But I’ve never put one on any of our dogs. I just don’t feel the need. Even if they’re acting up – if you can’t get control of them without shocking them you shouldn’t HAVE that dog.

    • Goodnight says:

For the same reason many places allow the declawing of cats – people are lazy and always looking for shortcuts.

‘Don’t like, don’t read/watch’ is such a stupid thing to say. People have every right to watch or read or comment about things they don’t enjoy.

    • HollyG says:

There are different kinds of shock collars available in the US, and different levels of electric shock collars. I use one that buzzes when the dog barks, I assume that’s the one Kim’s daughter was wearing.

Whatever it was, letting your kid try one to understand what it feels like is one thing. I try every barking deterrent that I use before I use it. (Citronella is the worst FYI) Joking and filming it is demeaning and kinda trashy.

    • Lahdidahbaby says:

She makes the Kardashians look like Albert Einstein.

    • I Choose Me says:

Right? I’ve always thought shock collars for pets were loathsome. There are much better ways to train your dog.

    • Starkiller says:

I have no idea of the actual legality, but I’ve never met a single person in the US who uses these. Strangely enough, I was acquainted with several dog owners in the UK who did (still part of Europe, last time I checked).

      • susanne says:

I live in NY state, and just about every dog owner uses an invisible fence. People don’t have time or energy to train their dogs. I think that if a dog owner chooses this route, s/he ought to try it on themselves first. Not on the kids.
I’m not for putting my children’s images on social media, either- with or without dog collar.

The bigger joke is that wig of hers.

  3. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I can’t believe these gross shows are still on.

    • lucy2 says:

Me either, I’ve never understood the appeal, or why any of the people on them were worth paying attention to.
That lady’s face looks like melting wax.

      • Redgrl says:

Good one! Didn’t Tina Fey once say the real housewives all looked like a fire in a wax museum?

      • doofus says:

ditto, Lucy and GNAT. never watched and never will.

and her nose job is terrible. whittled down to nothing. I understand wanting a smaller nose, but when you go so far as to make it too little for your face, it looks terrible. and obvious.

      • Kitten says:

She’s hideous. All these women are hideous inside and out.

  4. Jen43 says:

What did she do to her face? She is unrecognizable.

When will people realize and accept that their lives aren’t interesting enough to document?

    • meme says:

Never as long as people watch these stupid shows. She really IS unrecognizable and it’s amazing to me how rich she got by being a moron.

  5. Murphy says:

Kim loves to get drunk and take crazy snaps hoping that they get a headline or two. Mission accomplished, thanks for helping Celebitchy! Lol

  6. Marianne says:

It’s stupid. But then again, this is the kind of dumb crap people on youtube are doing for views. So I understand a fame-whorey family doing this to get some views.

  7. JB says:

I just can’t get over Kim’s new face. She looks like a whole new person.

  8. Vivi says:

I think I’m more outraged at the fact they have a dog shock collar.
As a vet student practically every animal behavior professor I’ve had has said those things don’t work and only go to promote fear and stress in your dog.
They are illegal here in Italy, as they should be everywhere!

  9. Kelly says:

This one really gives the Kardashians a run for the money on vapid and idiocy.

  10. JenniferJustice says:

Just because a kid is willing or wanting to do something, doesn’t mean a parent should let them or encourage them. Isn’t that one of the main responsibilities of being a parent?

Her hair is so ridiculously fake looking. Does she look in the mirror and think “I know it’s super fake, but I still want to pretend.” I have yet to see a real housewife other than Heather and Lisa VanderPump who doesn’t need to go back to school. The ditziness isn’t cute or childlike when you’re in your 30 and 40s. It’s not cute in your 20s, but people give the benefit of a doubt that younger women will wise up with age.

  11. Joannie says:

All I see is hair. Silly looking hair!
