The Queen & an uncomfortable-looking Prince Harry attend Royal Ascot

This is just something fun, even though I know we’ve had a lot of royal posts in the past four days or so. It’s not my fault! The British royal family has been doing all of these events for the Queen’s birthday celebrations, and now the Royal Ascot has started, so HATS! So many hats. Prince Harry, the Dirty Ginger Snap, wore a hat! These photos are from today, the first day of the Royal Ascot. The Queen was there, Princess Beatrice was there, the Prince of Wales was there, and Harry was there.

The Queen chose a sunny yellow coat, which is a good thing because it looked pretty dreary and overcast there. She also looked so happy to be around her favorite people in the world, horses. And has anyone noticed something weird with Harry’s beard? I’ve enjoyed his beard enormously, and I think it makes him look older and more mature. But I like when it looks a bit fuzzy and long. He seems to be doing some kind of “beard fade” now and it looks hyper-groomed and gross. He also looks incredibly uncomfortable in these clothes.

Last thing: “Wildlife Presenter & Conservationist Anneka Svenska wearing the largest hat in Royal Ascot history made by milliner Louis Mariette,” per WENN. She wore the hat to “provoke conversation and change to improve welfare standards for race horses & cut deaths and injuries at all courses in the U.K.” That is some hat. How does one even walk?

There is something so polite and British about wearing a hat as a form of protest. (I love Great Britain, btw.)

  2. COSquared says:

The Ginger Snap needs to be introduced to Charles’ tailors. It’s always loose trousers and tight jackets.

    “How does one even walk?”

One does not. One stands and poses for the photographers.

  4. spidey says:

    He doesn’t look uncomfortable.

Totally agree. He looks fine. Cute that she wanted him as the escort. Who wouldn’t?

      • AtlLady says:

Also cute was how Harry’s boutineer matched HM’s dress and his vest matched the blue flower splash of color in her hat. Nice touch!

    • MorningCoffee says:

I don’t think so either. As for his beard, it looks like he just trimmed it to fit in with the formal occasion.

      • swak says:

My thoughts exactly about the beard. Ascot is pretty formal so he cleaned it up a bit. But I like it scraggly also!

      • Yup, Me says:

I think it looks like he spilled tomato soup on his chin.

      • Poisonous Lookalike says:

Wasn’t it reported that his granny the queen didn’t like his beard when he returned from the Antarctica event? If I’m remembering that rightly, then perhaps he trimmed it out of respect for her.

He doesn’t look at all uncomfortable to me.

      • Alix says:

I hope he keeps the beard!!

I don’t think Harry looks uncomfortable at all. Upper class guys spend a lot of time in morning dress because they wear it to so many weddings (and other events such as this one). In their later twenties and early thirties they can spend nearly every weekend in the summer thus togged out watching their buddies getting hitched. They all seem to take wearing this kind of clothing in their stride.

  6. Hollz says:

How does that even count as a hat? It doesn’t even look like it’s touching her head, it looks like it’s attached to the fake hair thing thats attached to the back of her head.

Harry and the Queen are both adorable, as always.

  7. ClaireB says:

I wish Harry’s trousers were flat-fronted. Those pleats make them way too clownish. I miss his yellow waistcoat! It would have coordinated nicely with the Queen’s sunny coat. Though I just noticed he did match his buttonhole to her outfit!

He hasn’t looked happy in many of the pictures posted of the celebrations this week. I wonder if it’s just the pics that have been chosen or if there’s something going on with him.

I’m thinking of all the photos from the Invictus Games, in which he was glowing with joy.

  8. Bridget says:

Of course Harry is comfortable in his rich people clothes. He’s grown up in them. He’s charming, he is great with the public, but he’s still a member of the upper upper upper echelons of society.

  9. Megan says:

I love all the vibrant colors HM has been wearing this week. She is one cool 90 year old.

  10. La Ti Da says:

Ah, I see. Anneka Svenska is doing for the welfare of race horses what Princess Beatrice did for the state of toilet seats in the UK.

    • bluhare says:

At least she brought it up. The treatment of racehorses can be appalling.

So can the treatment of toilet seats, but that’s another post on another day.

I agree that the beard is off. It’s a strange combo to have groomed trimmed beard, and then wilder hair. (Though my husband does have wild beard and closely clipped hair.) I much preferred Harry’s beard a little scruffier, rawr. Can’t hang on to such a close trim job.

  12. Tina says:

I think Harry’s just annoyed at the press. There were a lot of “Kate and Harry laugh together” stories in the papers this weekend.

Stop picking on my man, Kaiser!

He looks good and not uncomfortable at all. The DM had some more pics and he looked good in all of them.
