Queen Elizabeth sent out a thank-you tweet to her fans #gilded #hats #brooches

They’re letting the Queen tweet! #ThugLyfe #MonarchSteeze #Gilded #Blessed #IWokeUpLikeThis

The Queen sat in one of her most gilded rooms at Buckingham Palace and one of her staffers placed an iPad in front of her. “Your Majesty might want to tweet out a thank you to one’s grateful servants for one’s birthday messages,” the staffer probably said. The Queen agreed, suspiciously. She is 90 years old, after all. How does one “tweet”? Does one sign one’s tweets? What is this “hashtag” thing they speak of? So here are the Queen’s tweets, which she apparently did herself?

I like that the Queen-on-Twitter is pretty much what you would expect, that she probably doesn’t get it, but she’s been coached, and she’s so old-school that she thinks one must sign one’s tweets. Maybe she gets it more than we will never know, though. Maybe she’s set up Twitter accounts for all of her dogs. Maybe the Queen is going to drop some wisdom from the @LizzieWindsor handle. #QueenYall #Palace4Real #GameofThrones #Brooches #FeministHats

This post and your hashtags are gold, Kaiser! I swear I’m screaming with laughter 😭😭😭

So breathless right now. Gonna read it for a second time.

    Next she’ll be on snapchat.

  2. SnazzyisAlive says:

#Brooches and #FeministHats for the win.
On another note, I feel like that room doesn’t have enough gold.

If there was an account just for her jewels, brooches and dogs, I will be all over it.

    • LadyMTL says:

#FeministHats is my favorite, but I’m surprised that there’s no hashtag for the dogs. #BarkingtonPalace and #RoyalCorgis maybe?

Also yes, that room needs more gold. Maybe thread some into that carpet?

      • Jacqueline says:

There is a website dedicated to royals jewels. It’s called the Royal Order of Sartorial Splendor and there is an entire section devoted to her brooches #broochgamestrong

    She deserves better heirs

    • Birdix says:

Why are her hands so pink?

      • Brunswickstoval says:

Can be many reasons for red hands. Under active thyroid, low blood pressure, from being cold, stress. I remember my grandmother’s hands were pink when she was old.

      • mary s says:

I had to go back to see what you were talking about. Allergic reaction? Psoriasis? I hope it’s not bothersome.

      • layla says:

I’ve also noticed that many times Charles’ hands seem very pink/red and swollen looking. Too a lesser degree Willnot’s as well on a few occasions… more slightly puffy/swollen than something really obvious and painful looking (like Charles’ hands in some pics). Maybe something genetic?

      • notasugarhere says:

Prince Philip had to stop wearing his wedding ring, said to be because of swelling due to arthritis. Wouldn’t be surprising to see the same thing in his 90 year old wife.

    • Sarah says:

      Absolutely!!!!!

I love that she signed her last initial. What is the R for anyway?????

  4. DogMom says:

If the Queen can tweet, however coached and hand held, there really is no excuse for the social media functional ignorance of the younger royals.

  5. Brunswickstoval says:

    I wish she was immortal.

  6. Who ARE these people? says:

The pop-up ad (in my browser) right under the photo of the Queen at her desk said FEAR NO TRASH.

    Perfection.

  7. Who ARE these people? says:

If she got glasses just for the computer, she wouldn’t have to sit so far back. ; )

  8. bluhare says:

@Queen_UK for what the queen really thinks. 🙂

  9. RedOnTheHead says:

This is a wonderful way to start the day! Now I have an image of the Queen running around clutching her iPad because she’s learned how to tweet and nobody is going to take it away from her dammit!!

  10. paolanqar says:

She looks fantastic in vibrant colors.

  11. Laura says:

LOVE this post! Great way to start the day! Thanks!

Does anyone know what the “R” stands for? I thought the royal family’s last name was Windsor…Educate me, please!

    • Sixer says:

Regina – Latin for queen. If she were a king, it would be rex.

    • Who ARE these people? says:

Ah, just figured out why the city of Regina in Saskatchewan is named what it is. Duh. We always say, “Rhymes with…”

    • KiddVicious says:

I was going to ask the same thing. Very interesting! I was thinking maybe it was for Royal.

    • Robin says:

Prior to India’s independence, when the British monarch was also Emperor of India (or Empress, in Victoria’s case) it was “RI” for “Rex Imperator”.

      • teacakes says:

I won’t lie, I love the thought that the subcontinent gaining independence scalped an entire initial off the monarchy’s personal signatures – they’re suddenly down from ‘RI’ to just ‘R’.

  14. mary s says:

I love the second and third tweets. So like a Grandma! I’d bet she really wanted to send out a fourth one that just said, “good-bye” but got held back.

And I agree with the above poster who said she deserves better from her heirs. Nobody does queen like Queen Elizabeth.

  15. Capepopsie says:

    She is awesome!
Some people should take notes. . .

  16. Cricket says:

That was excellent! I’m still hiding from my huge mess up calling her HRH in error. Thanks LAX for correcting me, I knew it was wrong when I typed it but ugh, couldn’t fix. Oh well..

I so am loving the hat game of late! I hope they do an exhibit of her entire hat collection, that would be awesome!

On a side – just read Willnot was watching England in Euros – does this mean he missed Father’s Day to watch football? Oh, and GO WALES!!!!

  17. Grace says:

I like the idea she’s got multiple handlers, secretly tweeting but no one knows.

  18. Tina says:

I am annoyed with the Queen today. Apparently she has been asking her dinner party guests to give “three good reasons why the UK should stay in the EU.” I’ll give her one good reason (or maybe two): because if we leave, the pound will drop like a stone and we’ll send ourselves into recession. That doesn’t matter to her, of course, but it damned well matters to me.

  19. teacakes says:

I’m screaming, those tweets are SO like what I’d expect from the Queen! From the signature right down to the tweet confirming that yes, she herself was the one hitting the ‘publish’/’tweet’ or whatever button, and finally – the hashtag! (which I would bet money she had to be coached into)

    I love this.
