Liv Tyler and David Gardner welcome daughter Lula Rose: cute name?

Liv Tyler is one of those celebrities who seemed pregnant for a very long time. I think it’s the fact that I like to pay attention to Liv, even though we only report on her occasionally, and that she gets papped a lot. Plus Liv already has a 16 month-old son, Sailor, with her fiance, British sports agent Dave Gardner, so she had her two newest babies relatively close together. She also has an 11 year-old son, Milo, from her marriage to British musician Royston Langdon. Dave has a nine year-old son, Gray, from his marriage to actress Davinia Taylor. Anyway Liv, 39, and Dave, either 39 or 40, (he was 38 in late 2014), made the announcement on Instagram along with a pic of their adorable newborn. I enjoy it when celebrities just post a pic on social media and confirm the name without bothering to go through the press first. Here’s their announcement.

Liv’s sweet personality just comes through in everything she does. I really enjoyed glancing through her Instagram. Even in her promotional posts she sounds bubbly and upbeat:

Cute, right? What are your thoughts on the name Lula? It sounds more like a nickname than an actual person name, like something your friends and family would call you while you have a more formal name for work, like Leslie, Lauren or Lily. Speaking of Lily, Liv also gave her daughter a floral middle name. Those are very popular lately and I like the flower names. Overall it’s a whimsical name, which seems fitting for Liv.

Congratulations to Liv and Dave! Do you think they’ll get married soon? I don’t think they need to, I would just squee a little to see Liv in her wedding gown on her special day. (I know I’m so cheesy!)
identified as Lulu. It is Lula ansd we are sorry for the confusions.

Update: In the first publishing of this article, Liv’s daughter’s name was incorrectly identified as Lulu. It is Lula and we are sorry for the confusion. Also reader Lizzie points out that Lula and Sailor are the lead characters in David Lynch’s 1990 film Wild at Heart.

Having met ten new Lily Roses this week (some were grown ups, not all newborns), I like it.

His son’s name is Gray Gardner? As in Gray Gardens?

  3. Patricia says:

    I love Liv.
But I don’t love her decision to put her precious son’s bare ass out there for all to see… at all.
And I don’t love the name Lulu. Come on Liv, would YOU want to be a grown woman named Lulu? Come on now!!!

Lulu Rose isn’t cute. But since her Instagram identifies the baby Lula Rose, I chose to believe they pick the latter. Not that great either (Lula immediately brings images of the former brazilian president for me) but slightly better.

    So cute. Lovely family.

Her caption reads Lula. Sailor and Lula? For real?

  7. Jenba says:

Baby Girl’s name is ‘Lula’ not ‘Lulu’ πŸ™‚

Her & Charlize are my woman crushes. I love the name and how sweet that her man is wearing her robe.

  9. Rose says:

Lula or Lulu? I like them both.

Liv is a David Lynch fan!

Her last son is named Sailor and her new daughter is Lula. Sailor and Lula were the main characters in WILD AT HEART – played by Nic Cage and Laura Dern.

That’s my favourite Lynch movie and when I was a teen I had this dream of getting two great danes and naming them Sailor and Lula.

lula and sailor are the main character names in wild at heart. i dig it.

    Awww, I like it.
My grandmother’s name is Louella Rose. 🌹 So I grew up calling her Grandma Lulu. She is the cutest lil ladybug granny you’ll ever meet. 🐞If I ever have a daughter I’ll likely give her one of my grandma’s names as a middle name.

Annika- your comment made my day. My 5 year old daughter is Luella Rose.
      She’s a cute little ladybug of a girl. Maybe it’s a magic name? 😘

Lula was the name of a fashion magazine run by Leith Clark that I loved insanely between 2005-10, so that name has good associations for me.

And there’s also Lula Mae Barnes, aka Holly Golightly’s real name in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

  14. ladybosca says:

I have met her a few tines….not only is she beautiful, she is one of the kindest celebs I have ever met.
Congrats to the family on their new sister/daughter!!!!
And I like the name and loved Dave’s post regarding Lula’s brothers becoming ninjas and bodyguards 24-7. So cute, funny and loving!

Don’t like it, reminds me too much of “Mulva” 10 points if you get it.

  16. Lovemydmb says:

It sounds too much like those mlm pants. Lularoe or whatever they’re called.

  17. Miss S says:

Juts came here to say that “Lula” means “Squid” in portuguese ^_^

  18. amilu says:

Sounds like she named her kid after the LuLaRoe/Tupperware party leggings all the soccer moms are obsessed with. I don’t love it. At all.

  19. Mrs. Darcy says:

Meh, it’s a bit too “Lila and Lola are ovah, I’m making this Lula the og”. Now everyone else will go for Lula. I think Tallulah would have given the kid more options for nicknames, but I’m a traditionalist, I don’t like names that sound like pieces/are abbreviations of other names.
