Kylie Jenner covers Allure: ‘I can’t remember what it’s like not to be famous’

kylie allure

Kylie Jenner covers the new issue of Allure, the August issue. I still feels noteworthy somehow that the Jenner sisters manage to get major magazine covers without doing much of anything, especially Kylie. I sort of “get” why Kylie gets covers, because she’s a full-time model. Kylie is just… there. She has a terrible lipstick company and she’s the second least-interesting person on a reality show (the least interesting is Kourtney). Still, here’s Kylie on Allure. You can see the full shoot here, but it is basic as hell. I’m including some highlights from her cover interview, plus Kim Kardashian “interviewed” Kylie about beauty too, so I’m adding some highlights from that as well.

Fame and happiness: “I’m a special case. I can’t remember what it’s like not to be famous. I’m able to appreciate what true happiness is all about. A new car, that’s not real happiness. That lasts a month. That’s short-term happiness. Happiness is being with your friends.”

Living for Snapchat? “People think that since we have a reality TV show and I show so much of my life that they know who I am. But on Snapchat I show people what I think they want to see. That’s not me. It’s a projected image. A brand. I’m not a different person. I just don’t show all of me…I usually don’t show my true personality to the world, because when you open yourself up so much, there’s more room for people to say things about you.”

She won’t be famous one day: “I know I don’t want to be famous forever. There’s gonna be a time where I feel comfortable, I’m at a good place in my life, and I just stop.”

Her biggest beauty mistake: “Well, I definitely made my lips a little too big at one point… I got excited and felt like I needed to do a lot. And then you guys were like, ‘Kylie, you need to chill.’ And then I had to go back and have it fixed, and it was a crazy process. Thank God I didn’t end up on Botched.”

What’s in her fridge right now: “A lot of pressed juices, eggs, milk. And I always keep a block of medium cheddar at all times.”

The most challenging thing about being the baby of the family: “Definitely the most challenging is being the youngest and trying to find my own way, trying to be recognized as an adult. Everyone thinks I’m still the baby…which I am.”

[From E! News and Allure]

I almost took a little snooze there, and I’m the one writing about it! Ugh. “I can’t remember what it’s like not to be famous.” Do you think that’s true? Keeping Up with the Kardashians started in 2007, when Kylie was 10/11. She really has no memories of her life before then? Really? I mean, I know Kris never prioritized education with her daughters, but why doesn’t Kylie remember going to school, or family dinners, or fighting with her sisters, or anything that any other kid might be able to remember? I also get a bit tired of Kylie complaining about one day, she’ll just go away and not be famous anymore. Maybe she thinks that’s what we want to hear, but it just rings false to me.

So have the Kardashians covered every major American magazine at this point?

  2. Lucy says:

I think she’s really lonely. I follow her on social media and she always posts about how much she loves her friends and sisters, or she’ll post about missing Kendall when she’s off to Paris, and it makes me feel like she’s trying to show all these people around her “look I love you, love me back” like she’s afraid if she doesn’t praise these leeches they’ll leave her (also applies to Tyga). It’s sad because I don’t really think she has real friends that appreciate her for her or a good strong relationship with her family. Her 1 best friend (Jordan) got a +size modelling contract from her association with Kylie and the other (Anastasia) is an insta model who makes $2mill + a year from sponsorship which only came from the exposure Kylie gave her.

I agree that a lot of celebrities as vapid and useless as the cardashians do not have any friends.

if she stopped being on tv and social media and selling stuff, would the people she hangs out with now, her ‘friends’ still be there?

      um….no. probably not.

hard lesson to learn but im not shedding any tears for these foolish women.

    • HH says:

Yeah she annoys me the most, but I also have the most sympathy for her. Her parents let her date a man in his mid twenties while she was underage. A man that happens to look sleezy from a mile away and lives off her money/fame. That just hurts my heart.

Also, while I understand that she can “not be famous” at any time. It’s also providing her with a comfortable life. I think when she used the word “comfortable” she meant there will be a time when she’s monetarily set for the rest of her life and doesn’t need to keep building a brand around her personal life to sell products.

Isn’t Kylie like 18? That would make her 8/9 and I think that’s pretty fair statement for her. Of course I’m sure she has memories of being younger but they don’t stand out more than the famous ones. And to be fair to Kylie, I don’t understand why Kendall gets more credit than her. Kendall barely does the modeling thing (she was cast in like two shows this past year and has only a few campaigns so she’s not that much in demand). And it’s not like modeling takes skill or talent. Kylie at least has a successful makeup line.

And now I have to move on because I just honestly devoted a paragraph defending Kylie Jenner and I need to reevaluate my life choices.

I understand what she means. She has always been famous. He father was a world known winning Olympic athlete. He mother was married to a very famous lawyer on one of the most talked about cases in current history. (we are still talking about it). Her older sister is infamous for a sex video. She has gone to school with only children of rich and famous people.

    • Lynnie says:

The makeup line was rated F by the BBB, before someone on the Jenner team per$uaded someone to take the rating down, and put up “No Rating” instead. Also for the price of the lipsticks the customer service SUCKS, there are way too many quality control issues, and it’s just an expensive replica of Colourpop’s products which retail for $6.

As for Kendall always getting credit, I guess it’s because the work is more tangible and obvious. Sure nepotism got her into the shows, but at the end of the day Kendall has to walk in them. (Which would probably explain why she isn’t getting as many callbacks lol). With Kylie’s makeup line only people who care about that stuff know she’s doing something. The rest of the public doesn’t and continues to think she’s some vapid kid who goes on pap strolls.

      • AlleyCat says:

@Lynnie I don’t know much about her product, but I always thought it was doing super well? That shocks me (but then again not really) that the reviews are so poorly, yet they are always sell out. Weird. Both girls are ridiculous I guess.

  4. MissMerry says:

these people are just walking bags of plastic and bullsh*t

    sit down, girl.

it seems like shes saying all that out loud to convince herself more than the public…I don’t think it’ll work.

    • saras says:

Yes. At least she admitted she was headed towards botched! I think the family members will be an example of the horrors of overly surguried youth in 5-7 years however. Kim is practically there and Kloe is runner up!

  5. BendyWindy says:

I’ve said before that I don’t remember my life before kids. It isn’t that I literally have no memories from my life before motherhood, but they seem distant and like they happened to someone else. My life now is so consuming (mostly in a good way), that it overwhelms what came before. And I became a parent at 22, so certainly much older than Kylie was when her life became a circus.

That said, I hate when celebrities talk about how one day they’ll just go away. If Kylie actually wanted to not be famous any more, she’d just stop. She hasn’t, so she doesn’t.

  6. kai says:

There are literally billions of people who have no idea what a Kardashian is. “The world” on the whole doesn’t give a sh-t. I bet most of the people who heard about her family wouldn’t recognize her without make-up and a name tag. It always amazes me how much celebrities overestimate their fame.

  7. Neelyo says:

“I know I don’t want to be famous forever. There’s gonna be a time where I feel comfortable, I’m at a good place in my life, and I just stop.”

Damn that’s sad. She’s essentially saying that she needs the validation of fame and hopefully someday she’ll be able to live without it.

  8. amilu says:

“I sort of “get” why Kylie gets covers, because she’s a full-time model.”

    Kendall? 🙂

  9. HH says:

Her face looks incredibly normal and pretty in that photo (for the first time in a LONG time).

  10. Milena says:

“On Snapchat I show people what I think they want to see. That’s not me. It’s a projected image. A brand.”

That is really sad. Most people (celebrities at least) use Snapchat for a behind-the-scenes, less polished look at their lives. Kylie sounds like she can never let her guard down. Obviously she created her own image, but now she’s just playing into it.

I feel bad for her only because she would’ve had to have incredible strength to go down a different path given her family background. I can’t imagine what it would be like to be on reality TV starting from age 10.

    • Lynnie says:

That jumped out to me too. To me the fix sounds so simple, just stop projecting an image on Snap, but I doubt all her issues will ever let it be that easy.

      Low self-esteem is a B.

  11. Nancy says:

She needs a nice fresh flow of oxygen to her brain. She looks and acts like a zombie. No sweetie, you’re not famous, you’re infamous for being scenery on your sister’s reality show. She speaks about anxiety a lot, when she was in school, just life in general, yet feels comfortable with an older man she’s dated since a young teen. Caitlyn, watch out for your daughter, cause it doesn’t appear as anyone else is.

  12. Adele Dazeem says:

    Allure…I’m disappointed in you. Grossness.

  13. Lucy says:

She sounds so…sad. Not sad as in pathetic, but as in lonely and kind of melancholic. I can’t shame her for that.

  14. KiddVicious says:

She looks good on that cover, more girl next door, she’s cute. She needs to stop with the sultry makeup that makes her look like a 40 year old divorcee in a 60/40 bar.

  15. what's inside says:

I can remember when Kylie was not famous and as far as I am concerned she is still a hanger-on. Girl, you need to get a reality check.

  16. Sunshine Gold says:

She is beyond sad. The last in a huge family of absolutely needy, damaged narcissists. She had no chance.
