Prince George turns 3 years old today & his parents released 4 new photos!

george4

Today is the third birthday of Prince George of Cambridge. Three years ago today, the world’s media was camped outside of the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s in London, eagerly awaiting the announcement that the Duchess of Cambridge had given birth to a healthy baby boy. By most accounts, Kate’s first pregnancy and first birth was the most difficult. Her second pregnancy, with Charlotte, was much easier, and the birth was quicker too. I’ve always thought that George was “the difficult baby” and Charlotte was “the easy baby” as far as temperament went too. George is the future king and he knows it!

Anyway, to celebrate George’s third birthday, the Cambridges released four new photos of George in Norfolk. Shockingly, these shots were not taken by Kate, who considers herself a keen amateur photographer. These photos were taken by professional photographer Matt Porteous, and he knew what he was doing because YAY no backlighting. The setting for all of the pics is Anmer Hall, or the grounds of Anmer Hall. The swing reading “William & Catherine” was a wedding gift. There’s also bonus Lupo in one of the shots! Reportedly, Will and Kate have gotten or plan to get George a new puppy for his birthday. We already heard that they were in the market for a Bolonka Zwetna puppy, bred at the cost of £1,800.

The Daily Mail says that George had or will have a small birthday party in Norfolk today. His grandparents Carole and Michael Middleton were there, but Prince Charles was not. George also had some nursery school friends over.

Those brown eyes! He’s going to be so much trouble when he grows up.

He is adorable. A really really cute kid. And the dark eyes light hair combo is really pretty too.

    • minx says:

Yes, he is a darling little boy! And he’s going to be tall.

    • Ravensdaughter says:

The pictures are adorable, especially the one with Lupo (it’s just a tiny bit of ice cream!).

    • imqrious2 says:

HBD Georgie! What a cutie pie! Whatever else you can say about W & K, they do make adorable babies 🙂

  2. Megan says:

What a cutie. To me, he looks like a mix of Pippa and Michael Middleton.

  3. paolanqar says:

That first pic of him and the expression on his face tells you everything you need to know about him!
    brat alert!

    He’s seriously cute!

    • LadyMTL says:

Hahahaha, I was thinking along those lines too, though for me the “brat alert” is more evident in the third photo. Like he’s just standing on the swing, actively plotting to smack someone off-camera once they let him get down.

That said he is for sure one cute kid!

    • maria 2 says:

i was wondering why the professional photograph cropped out a foot

    • BTownGirl says:

I have to go relive his tour of Australia/New Zealand immediately!! He is just precious and throws a cut-eye like no one’s business!

  4. AlleyCat says:

Soooo cute. I love his whale sweater and want it for my nephew.

I could cry with jealousy over wanting a dog. It is so hard to find a cheap, nice apartment that allows pets.

  5. Betti says:

He’s a cute kid! You can see Grandpa Mids in some of those shots.

When you look at George and then at photo’s of Chopper at that age – you can see the same temperament in the eyes. George is Willy 3.0.

Also, i think they will have a 3rd, particularly is Pips has a kid in the next few years – the Mids siblings are very competitive and Kate won’t let Pips outshine her for long.

    • Rachel says:

A third baby means more time for extended maternity leave. Plus as one of three herself Kate might feel inclined to imitate her own family.

    • TyrantDestroyed says:

I even dare to say there might be a fourth baby on the horizon. The Danish and Luxembourgian Royal families are large royal families so I don’t think that would be unusual if it happens to Kate and William.

George is cute and he seems to have a lot of personality.

    • Canadian Becks says:

So many say he resembles Pippa, but it’s only in his extremely straight eyebrows that I see a resemblance to Kate’s side of the family – Kate also has very straight brows with no arch. That, and the lack of blue eyes.

His nose, particularly his flared nostrils, is just like Wiliam’s at the same age. William’s baby and toddler pictures show the flared nostrils, too. One need only to look to William to see what George’s nose will look like.

Oh, and the Middleton dimple. There is now a dimple showing itself on the left side, just like Kate’s.

  6. Sixer says:

He’s a lovely looking little child. That’s all I got.

  7. Naya says:

And what magnificent ribbon was Prince Charles cutting that he missed his only grandsons birthday? Most privilged individual in the planet in that he can schedule his life around family but nope, inconsequential realm “work” comes first. Robotic, cold and utterly incapable of human connection like his mother. Any hint of humanity in those two boys came from Princess Di.

    • Trixie says:

Or, you know, the Middletons/William and Kate didn’t invite Charles. We don’t know that Charles didn’t want to be there. He could have not been invited.

      • LAK says:

He’s publicly shamed them in the past into allowing him time with the boy so this is a plausible speculation.

      • Locke Lamora says:

If they didn’t invite him, that’s really sad.

    • littlemissnaughty says:

Good lord. The child turned 3, he didn’t get his doctorate.

He’s such a cute kid with the best facial expressions. That first pic is so damn adorable.

      • Jegede says:

“Good lord. The child turned 3, he didn’t get his doctorate”.

        LOL

      • Tough Cookie says:

This!!! We see my husband’s grandkids when we can and send gifts (I think they are the most adorable children on the planet) but we don’t feel the need to attend toddler birthday parties. Not everyone gets gooey over children/grandchildren.

      • ladysussex says:

IKR??? Once on this site someone was outraged that Will missed “Charlotte’s first Easter” to attend a wedding. Really? Must we attend every “first” or every event in a baby’s life?

      • Ravine says:

ladysussex, I remember that “Charlotte’s first Easter” comment because it made my eyes roll back 180 degrees. Like a baby is capable of caring about a religious occasion, let alone remembering it or who else was present!

      • notasugarhere says:

The point being made was that William would rather travel to Africa to be with Jecca then be with his wife-and-kids during an often kid-centered holiday.

    • PHAKSI says:

      Wow, over react much?

    • Sarah says:

I think the Middletons didn’t want him there, and I include Kate and Wills in with them. And where was Harry? I bet he wasn’t invited either.

      • PHAKSI says:

Harry is in my neck of the woods, my hometown in South Africa for the HIV/AIDS conference. Also I can believe that Chopper and Chutney dropped some hints about not wanting Charles there

    • Fiorella says:

I disagree, as obviously he had some inescapable connection with Camilla!he is human in some ways. Agree that maybe he and the middletons don’t get along so well? Sounds plausible to me

    • Naya says:

You know, people who stay in touch never have this problem. I can bet you the Middleton family has been asking about Georges special day for weeks – because thats how doting grandparents are. As for the greying badger prince who still interacts with his mother via summons, its pretty clear he hasnt spoken to his son or asked about his grandson in weeks, maybe months. His “kingdom” is about to be downsized very soon if Scotland and NI get their way, the least this 60 year old Prince can do is actually focus on things that do matter.

    • notasugarhere says:

Charles works, unlike his son and DIL. 500+ engagements plus The Duchy, Prince’s Trust, taking on oversight of Balmoral and Sandringham Estates from his father, some of his mother’s duties, etc. The Middletons are mostly retired as far as I can tell.

Plus Charles’s schedule is booked a year in advance. If W&K wanted him there, they would have picked a time in his schedule when he could attend. As LAK states above, he’s had to publicly shame them in the past to get time with the grandkids.

      • Cerys says:

Totally agree with you. I’m sure W&K could have coordinated their empty diary with Charles. It’s quite sad if he is being cut out of his grandchildren’s life by the Middleton/Cambridges because he has to fulfil his Royal obligations.

    • I have a great deal of respect for Queen Elizabeth who put her country first always. Charles works too and takes his duties seriously. That is the sacrifice that royals are expected to make in exchange for their life of privilege. It’s kind of the point to the whole thing. William doesn’t yet understand this.

    • hmmm says:

C’mon, Charles is not “robotic, cold”. All reports from the Diana years and beyond assert that he was a devoted and engaged father (unlike Willy).

I imagine he wasn’t there because Willy has ensured that he wouldn’t be.

    • MrsK says:

Probably a little of Column A, a little of Column B. Charles probably does feel a yearning for the intimacy and closeness of family that he probably couldn’t even define, and Kate & family probably don’t do the least bit to include him.

He grew up and lives in an environment none of us can comprehend. I read that he has a servant put toothpaste on his toothbrush. His mother celebrates two birthdays – the day she was born, but a more important celebration on a day chosen because there will be better weather conditions for the nation to celebrate. Nothing in the realm where he lives has taught him that if you want family closeness, you cancel everything and go to your 3-year old grandson’s birthday party and roll in the grass and rub the puppy’s belly and tickle your grandson to make him giggle.

His wife has probably opened him up somewhat because she has her own family and grandchildren, but it doesn’t come naturally to him. I think he knows something is missing but doesn’t know how to fix it.

And I’m sure the Middletons aren’t helping, which is the best display I can think of of cutting your nose off to spite your face. They should be bending over backward to cultivate a good relationship with the Future King of England. They are in a position to foster intimacy and coziness, something that would be a unique experience for Charles, but I don’t get any sense that they’re even trying.

    • Tough Cookie says:

But how do we even know Charles missed anything? Maybe the kid’s birthday was celebrated last weekend or there’s something planned for this coming weekend.

    • Starlight says:

as all royals should do, duty comes first, so missing watching your grandson get over indulged as Wills hinted upon, when asked what G had for his birthday, he implied G had been spoilt on his birthday, That concludes that Charles will say happy birthday in a Royal kingly manner, not by over indulgment or spoiling – which is not the Royal way.

  8. Erinn says:

He is such a genuinely cute kid – photogenic as well. Love the photo of George and Lupo – who’s also a very very cute dog.

  9. MrsBPitt says:

    He’s adorable!

  10. Loopy says:

Lol just read that there is a huge fuss on twitter about him feeding the dog ice cream.

    • Palar says:

Typical Twitter! My dogs love eating my kids Icecream.

    • Astrobiologiste says:

My chihuahua has been eating one spoonful of ice cream every Sunday for the past 10 years. She loves it and her vet OK’d it and she is fine. Let Lupo eat ice cream!

  11. grabbyhands says:

    God this kid is cute.

But I still kind of miss his Baby Churchill phase.

  12. Alex says:

Kate and Will make em real cute. And his clothes are (thankfully) modern! HBD George

    • Sarah says:

I think George is adorable – and every time I see pics of Charlotte, I’m sad she didn’t get his looks. She is very cute but I think George is the one who got the very good looking genes, though charlotte may grow to be beautiful. I hope so. If you aren’t attractive in the public eye, you get a lot of ridicule.

      • Alex says:

I love charlotte’s features as well though. She’s got the Windsor eyes which are lovely. She’s a mini-Elizabeth.

      • adiuoweuriewu says:

“If you aren’t attractive in the public eye, you get a lot of ridicule.”

Well, you’re kind of contributing to that, by speculating about the future attractiveness of literal toddlers.

      • Feeshalori says:

For what it’s worth, and I’m not criticizing a baby’s looks, l think Charlotte is going to be lovely as she gets older. She’s a Taurus like me, and we’re known for our good looks! 😉

      • Sarah says:

Well, I said she’s cute. You might have a point if I said she was ugly, but I’d never say that. I just think George is going to be very handsome and did get blessed with the better looks.
And if you look at Beatruce and Eugenie and that absurd abuse they get about not being gorgeous, you’d hope Charlotte ends up lovely, also!

  13. Solanaceae (Nighty) says:

Oh, he’s adorable, but then, he has to, his birthday is on the same day as mine.. We born on the 22nd July rock and are awesome!!! 😀
    Adorable kid!! So cute!!

  14. Barrett says:

Bonus Lupo! Say it again, made my day.

  15. Original T.C. says:

    Cuteness alert! Happy birthday kiddo.

  16. CidySmiley says:

I feel like his hair will darken out as he gets older. He looks older than three but that might be his clothing or something. Idk my three year old still has a ton of baby fat.

  17. OSTONE says:

Adorable mini Churchill. Happy Birthday, kiddo. Gosh I remember having such a crush on William on my tween and teen years and now that the Windsor genes kicked in, no thanks.

  18. Kitty says:

He is cute, but how do alot of people not see this is PR? William and Kate have used their kids for good PR many times!

    • notasugarhere says:

Of course it is PR. Photos were forbidden at the SAS event a few days ago. Members of the SAS and their families are smart-enough not to endanger themselves with revealing photos. Those families were banned from taking photos of the visiting royals, which presented no security risk whatever.

These two are all about control. No photos without their permission.

      • Kitty says:

I know right but they get away with it. William and Kate are both lazy and lack duty but get away with it because of their kids. NOT FAIR!

      • bluhare says:

It could also have been that the base is sensitive and command did not want some background things becoming public.

      • notasugarhere says:

bluhare, they would all have known that. The SAS members and their families are not idiots I presume? They know how to protect themselves and what they do. It is likely that they would have taken photos for their personal photo albums and not posted them online. Even that was forbidden. Not for security reasons, I suspect.

      • addie says:

Agree! William and Kate like to make sure others know who calls the shots. The statue and the royal couple were not to be photographed. I can’t see what harm a public statue can cause, and as for the K+W, who cares. Being in the SAS is something William would never have been able to achieve on ability, so this is just showing who’s in control.

    • I’m sure everyone knows this is PR.

  19. Fiorella says:

    What a pretty dog!

    • PGrant's Girl says:

Yeah, George and Charlotte do nothing for me, but I majorly squee when I see Lupo!

  20. shoochai says:

That pic with Lupo is so flippin’ adorable!

  21. Goldie says:

George is too cute. He’s got so much personality.

  22. He looks just like his father did at that age cute, charming, and delightfully naughty. Love the top pic.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

He does look so much like William did as a child.

    • Canadian Becks says:

George’s nose- the nostrils are quite flared. Looking at William’s toddler pictures, you see the same flared nostrils, except that characteristic is even more exaggerated in George.

Seeing the long, strong nose the adult William ends up with, one can see what the future has in store for George.

  23. Lucy says:

The picture of him and the puppy!! Swoon. I hope he takes after Uncle Harry, personality-wise, I really do.

  24. hnmmom says:

Oh, he is too adorable. With the world going to hell in a hand basket, I needed to see a sweet face today, especially with a cute dog. Mood improved. Thank you! 🙂

  25. what's inside says:

He has Diana’s high forehead and pointy chin from that side view. I hope he will have her compassion and work ethic.

  26. holly hobby says:

Ah what a sweet boy. I am a sucker for cute kid pics! He’ll be a heartbreaker one day.

  27. magnolia says:

I know zero 3 year old boys who dress like this. I realize these are professional birthday photos, but something tells me this is how the nanny dresses him every damn day.

Good god, someone send him a Batman T shirt and some cargo shorts.

  28. popup says:

I can’t resist the cuteness anymore. What an adorable little dumpling. I’m all for his feisty little attitude, too.

  29. Citresse says:

Lovely photos! The top photo says he does and will most resemble Mike Middleton which isn’t a bad thing at all.

  30. ABC says:

Photos of the kid, meh whatever. What is killing me is the names on the swing! Her name is CATHERINE – you got that peasants! It’s CATHERINE! (And yes it’s totally ‘normal’ to have an engraved wooden swing in the garden). I just can’t anymore with these two. Just can’t.

    • graymatters says:

I love that swing. It reminds me of a painting from a time before the French Revolution depicting a blond young man looking up a pretty young woman and her exposed (though stockinged) legs peeping out from a froth of skirts and petticoats. When one thinks of how this was painted before the invention of knickers, one realizes just how appropriate a swing this is for the Cambridges.

    • imqrious2 says:

Apparently it was a wedding present for W & K (hence, their names on it).

      • Feeshalori says:

Wow, that would certainly be the first thing that pops into my head for a wedding gift – not. But this is for the couple who has everything.

  31. The Original Mia says:

Cute kid. Doggie! Ridiculous swing. If he slips and falls and that thing comes back on him, it’s lights out. Also…yes, we know who his parents are. No need for the emblazoned swing set.

  32. Barrett says:

I can’t un see that he has eye color and shape like carol Middleton and Pippa

  33. Tough Cookie says:

I must have missed the part about the $3000 Bologna Whatever puppy. Yikes.

And I feel cheated that my husband and I didn’t get a swing with our names on it when we got married. Obviously my friends and family are too peasant-y.

  34. Ravine says:

    What a difference a professional photographer makes…

  35. DesertReal says:

I’d like to preface this by saying:
    I’m not a kid person.
I mean I get it, they’re mini humans that suck up everything like little sponges (i.e. languages, instruments, time, patience, yada yada yada). That being said, I check in on George posts once a year or so to see who he favors more out of idle curiosity.
I only refer to the above, because of his shoes. I don’t know, nor do I pretend to know, mini human footwear trends.
Shoes have no gender per se….but little dude has yet to wear a pair of shoes that aren’t identical to ones I’ve worn myself.
    As a child or adult.
It’s neither a good or bad thing, he/she/they seem to just REALLY enjoy a good maryjane lol

  36. Psu Doh Nihm says:

As a professional photographer who utilizes back lighting with great success, I can tell you that by using, or not using it, is not indicative of professionalism.

To the trained eye, I look at these photos and think “meh” he could have found a spot in the yard with less sun dappling. However, when shooting a child of his age, the photographer is generally at their mercy.

  37. Kaz says:

George is a cutie but I think a professional photographer should have done a lot better. Why choose a time of day with so much brigh sunlight and shade. Very hard to get the background looking good and the right light on Georgie’s face.
