Amber Heard wants to focus on work & ‘wants a more positive focus on her’

wenn22867283

I was a little bit surprised this week when there was no follow-up story on the $7 million that Johnny Depp “donated” to charity on Amber’s behalf. That’s what was going down one week ago – Amber had announced that she would donate her entire divorce settlement to charity, and Depp decided to give the money directly to charity instead of following through with their legally agreed-upon settlement terms. After Depp announced his petty bullsh-t, Amber slammed him in the press, basically saying that he was only doing it for tax purposes (not to mention petty purposes), and dared him to donate another $7 million to charity. And then… nothing. We’ve heard nothing else about that situation. I’m sure it’s not the end, but who will blink first?

Still, Amber isn’t sitting at home, plotting her next takedown. She’s in London for the rest of the year, at work on Justice League and Aquaman (she plays Mera, Aquaman’s wife). This week, it seemed like she did a photoshoot/pap stroll with the Daily Mail – the DM got these exclusive photos of Amber out for a run, and they certainly look staged to me. The DM also had an interview with an unnamed friend of Amber, who said:

“Amber is training hard for three hours a day. A lot of it is with a trainer in the park but a lot in the gym. She’s loving doing the weight training and the cross training and she’s also doing combat and stunt training. Mera is a kick-ass role. It’s very empowering for women, which is appealing to Amber – especially after what she’s gone through. It’s a lot of fun and a real role model for women.’

[From The Daily Mail]

Okay, good. Focus on work, focus on getting strong and tough. After the DM published that, People Mag got an exclusive too:

Amber Heard seems to be focused on making a fresh start across the pond. With a settlement reached in her highly publicized divorce from Johnny Depp, the actress has been spotted out and about with friends and jogging in London.

“She wants a more positive focus on her,” a source tells PEOPLE. “She is an actress and wants to just focus on work now. She loves living in London. She is excited about working there and spending time with friends.”

Heard has been spending more time in London as she prepares to film her role as superhero Mera (aka Aquaman’s love interest) in DC’s comic book movie Justice League. The actress recently enjoyed a girls’ night out with celeb pals Cara Delevingne and Margot Robbie, which included going to a Rolling Stones exhibition and grabbing dinner at the Ivy Kensington Brassiere.

“She seems very happy and relieved to be away from L.A.,” adds the source. “She doesn’t talk much about Johnny and instead seems happy that she is moving forward.”

Heard has also been spotted spending time in London with Tesla founder and tech billionaire Elon Musk, though a source tells PEOPLE the two “have been friends for years and they remain just friends now.”

[From People]

That hit all of the gossip hot-spot bases, didn’t it? I wouldn’t mind if she moved to London – I would imagine she already has a lot of friends in London, just as she has many close friends in LA. As for Elon Musk… it will be interesting to see what happens next. After reading his emails about wanting to meet Amber, I think he’s absolutely interested in her. Will she continue to friendzone him?

I hope things go well for her. I’m not going to pretend that I think she’s got any talent but I hope she works steadily and everything stays calm for her.

    • tracking says:

+1 She is gorgeous though, and people have had steady careers on less.

      • Luca76 says:

I mean I watched her in a couple of things and although she’s gorgeous she has zero charisma like I don’t think she’s talented enough for a soap opera. It’s like the camera skips over her or something. Maybe it was just stress from the marriage? I honestly don’t know.

    • Nicole says:

I agree I hope she has a drama free life but she has zero stage presence and she’s not anything special in the looks department either. She’s pretty but there’s a ton of pretty blondes out there. Idk she hasn’t wowed me in any movie she’s a very flat actress

    • QQ says:

Hear Hear Luca, that’s all I want for her at this point

    • cindy says:

I’m asking with no snark. Are we sure she has no talent. Haven’t seen Rum Diaries, only a B horror flick she was in, which, since I watch those for fun sometimes, I thought she was decent in. What else has she even been in? Maybe she is good, who knows?

I’m glad to see her out and about either way.

      • paranormalgirl says:

She wasn’t bad in “Criminal Minds” years back. She was sort of cute and engaging.

      • Nicole says:

I never found her engaging personally.

      • Spiderpig says:

I’ve seen her in two things, a schlocky b movie which she was fine in, and the Danish Girl where she was aggressively awful.

I think she could have a perfectly good career if she sticks to Jessica Alba type roles, and avoids heavy duty Oscar-type serious dramas.

    • MC2 says:

Well, maybe this Mera role will be perfect for her then. I am making an assumption but with all the special effects & action maybe this movie will showcase her talents & not focus as much on the dramatic acting???

I am very happy she had this role locked down before the Johnny mess went public. I am very happy she has a role where she will kick a$$ and make some money. I think it’s great to see a victim of DV moving on and being in a powerful role. Clap, clap, clap.

    • Madison says:

All I know is she was terrible in The Danish Girl.

    • amilu says:

I thought she was actually really good in Syrup. I’ve liked her in other movies, but Syrup was the first (only?) time I thought she was a good actress.

    • Readeihh says:

I think she has some talent. She was good in the things I’ve seen her in. A Criminal Minds and Rum Diaries, she was fine.
I’ll never look at Johnny Depp the same way. I can’t stand him anymore and won’t buy tickets to see him in anything in the future, no matter how talented he is.

  2. Carla says:

Is she gonna do the standard “My Life After Divorce” People cover story or nah

  3. Guesto says:

I’m taking that silence as a positive thing, that Amber’s retort put the controlling Depp back in his box (where he’s now hopefully licking his wounds and pondering on the mess his life is).

  4. Nancy says:

I was surprised to learn recently she was “friends” with Elon Musk. He is a genius extraordinaire……somehow this coupling or even friendship surprises me. This chick gets around in the right circles for reasons which I don’t know or can comprehend. She seems very basic to me. But what do I know?

    • tracking says:

So gross that he was asking to meet her when married. Ugh.

      • QueenB says:

not only that. he was surprised and thought it was cool a woman liked to read Orwell and Ayn Rand. two of the most popular authors…seriously Elon? (not even going into people who acutally like Ayn Rand)

      • Nancy says:

I haven’t but will. I know he was married to the same woman twice and then another woman. I really admire him, he is a genius and has done so much for the people, not the billions that came with his inventions. He and his brother are amazing. Now for the woman, that’s another story. He doesn’t live like us regular people but I will close my eyes to his personal life as he is making history on a regular basis to better the planet, feed people (more his brother’s niche) and keep those rockets going. He and his brother were living in a car barely surviving before he became the man he is. Kudos

      • KB says:

Lol read the article Nancy and see how you feel

      • Michelina says:

Some of the more disturbing quotes from this article:

“As we danced at our wedding reception, Elon told me, ‘I am the alpha in this relationship.'”

“Elon’s judgment overruled mine, and he was constantly remarking on the ways he found me lacking. ‘I am your wife,’ I told him repeatedly, ‘not your employee.’ ‘If you were my employee,’ he said just as often, ‘I would fire you.'”

        Yikes!!!

Elon Musk is brilliant, but like many geniuses, the details of his personal life are not cute. He clearly has issues. He just got divorced from the same woman for the second time. I’m very confused by the wikipedia article for him, because it says he and his first wife Justine had 6 sons, and then 5 more through in vitro. Wouldn’t that make a total of 11 children? Or are they counting embryos? I’m not sure how that works.

Great article, though I’m not surprised. I saw an interview with him on 60 Minutes that also featured his second (and technically third) wife Talulah, and they discussed how difficult being married to him was. Looks like Amber has bad taste in men.

      • Nancy says:

Michelina: They lost their first son to SIDS. He is an alpha male and it’s going to take a very like minded woman to be married to him. He is the mad scientist who comes across as very likeable, humble man. As I said I admire his tenacity and eagerness to do something on our planet. Once someone under 50 is worth over a billion dollars, solely out of his work, it has to change his core thinking. Obviously women are not his forte. But I’m still in his corner with all the evil in the world, he’s trying to make a difference for the good. Can you imagine if he were a Presidential candidate as opposed to idiot boy Trump. I can’t, but I know we would live in a safer world.

      • Michelina says:

I agree Nancy. In my original comment I was noting that like many other brilliant people, his personal life is messy. As you said, he is a mad scientist. I still think he’s a genius and appreciate his contributions.

      • Naya says:

Call me crazy but I didnt find anything outrageous in that article. She seems to just be describing a traditionally oriented man. I see no abuse, just two people with vastly different expectations from their marriage. He wanted a facilitator, somebody to hold things down at home while he conquers the world. She wanted a partner, somebody who would share the home responsibilities while they both conquered. She admits that she conceded to him at the beginning so its not a surprise that he was frustrated that she was no good at her preppy homemaker role. As a traditional man, he isnt going to grieve over a baby for very long or even attend counselling sessions. This is obvious. She clearly didnt know him very well before the marriage or his reaction to her writing wouldn’t surprise her. The traditional man wants a smart wife, somebody with accomplishment but requires that work to fall secondary to his needs. In other words, you can write your books if it doesnt compromise your other role.

As for the postnuptial, I dont know what the courts decided but if I was finalizing a billion dollar merger on the eve of my wedding which would only come in effect after, I would make him sign too. She admits the agreement wasn’t leaving her destitute and her kids are catered for, her problem is that after a 7 year she couldn’t get her hands on the really really big money.

This isnt an issue to write an article in Marie Claire about unless your goal is to tell people to get their expectations on the table before marriage or to leave asap when they realise their goals no longer allign. The shade at the fiance while pretending to be conciliatory is also very petty. “Very young”, “suited to his lifestyle”? Petty. In the end, this is only her account and even then he doesn’t seem particularly abusive. Just very traditional. I wouldn’t survive in such a marriage but lots of women not only would, this is their fantasy marriage.

      • MC2 says:

Oh- thanks for the link and I like his ex-wife! I love the line that she had become a trophy wife and sucked at it. I see how their lives & focus changed. Trump said it once basically and it made me think about how some powerful men treat their wives. He said that after a hard, stressful day he wanted a woman who only talked about ‘softer’ things- not Inkana who worked & discussed it. When these guys were younger & making it, they wanted a partner and someone to talk to. Once they got big then they wanted a distraction from their lives and a wife to be a ‘break’.
It makes sense that Elon went after a smart woman for his wife to ‘start’ and I can see why he would be interested in Amber now (young & vivacious but knowledgeable about the crowd they hang with). I’m glad that his ex took time from their crazy life (5 boys!) to write books so she has some income & another life outside of his….yikes on the post-nup & it makes me grit my teeth at him.

      • Mae says:

@Naya I think maybe I’d call that a traditional upper class marriage. Upper-middle class as well, probably. I dunno that his first wife was wrong to expect them to have a full partnership, given that Elon’s mother was a working mom, and he seemed interested in her partially due to her ambition to be a writer. I think the abuse would partially refer to the lack of emotional support that most people expect from their spouse. Emotional negligence perhaps. It sounds like the ‘traditional’ man is quite self-centered and cares only that his needs are met; his wife’s emotional and professional needs are immaterial. Not a nice way to treat your wife, and I agree with his ex’s assessment that he was treating her as an employee. He had expectation she needed to meet, but he didn’t think he needed to meet her expectations because’s he’s the ‘alpha’ in their relationship. It does sound controlling, and maybe marriages that aren’t a full partnership that take into account both parties’ needs equally have a bit of an abusive dynamic because of that. A partner trying to control/change your behaviour and looks to meet their expectations of their ideal wife is one of the abusive red flags to watch for I’m pretty sure.

  5. Krakken says:

that’s a huge pimple. Celebrities they’re just like us.
As for Elon Musk , ruuunnnnn woman!!

  6. TexasB says:

Does she get paid for doing paparazzi photo shoots?

    • Jegede says:

      She used to. Pre- Depp

      Don’t know about now.

    • me says:

i don’t think so. She doesn’t have any social media this could be a way to also promote the movie. All the other actors are breaking exclusives about their work on the movie and the movie itself through their social media (Gal about her training, Jason Momoa posted pics about the art concept and costumes and even Ben Affleck uploaded a video with one of the new villians). They could have been trying to say “don’t worry, she’s working in the movie already and she’s getting back her healthier look for the movie” The fans of the comic seemed worried that she were so skinny until a few weeks ago…

But still the “exclusive” was kinda wrong. She returned to LA and was seen at LAX the same day of the photos. But she may be going back and forth

  7. Cirque28 says:

I can’t blame her for wanting to be known as something more than Johnny Depp’s abused ex-wife.

    • Madison says:

So she wants to be known as a terrible actress? I say get some acting lessons and stop leaking stories to the press. If she wants to be known for something other than that she needs to quit the ‘I’m moving on from my life with JOHNNY DEPP’ shtick.

      • lol says:

At least she leaked to People and E!

What’s so classy about Depp leaking everything to TMZ?

      • Madison says:

        @lol

She’s leaked to TMZ herself. And let’s not forget about Daily Mail and Page Six.

Point is, it’s over now and she should stop constantly putting stories out there because no one really cares. Do some good work and then people will be interested in YOU and not because of your ex.

  8. xxx says:

I’ll be shocked if she ever gets cast in another movie role again. She should have kept the 7m :/

  9. Loulou says:

She’s such a beauty, I honestly think she’s the best looking actress alive, and she doesn’t seem to owe her pretty features to a skilled surgeon, which is rare enough these days. I’ve seen her in a B movie called Mandy Lane where she looked a bit chubby compared to now, The Jones and that disappointing Carpenter movie. I thought her acting was fine, nothing better nor worse than, say, Megan Fox or any current starlet.
