Lady Gaga releases new music, is in talks for the Super Bowl Half-Time show

Here are some photos of Lady Gaga this weekend in London, and then on Monday in New York. I’ve been ignoring Lady Gaga for days. Because even in small doses, she exhausts me. I know she still has a devoted core of little monsters who worship everything she does, but I do wonder if most people are sort of “meh” on everything about Gaga these days. That being said, Gaga has never been more mainstream. She performed at the Oscars (and lost to Sam Smith). She performed the anthem at the Super Bowl. And she’s putting out a new pop album, which will be her first since 2014’s Artpop, which wasn’t the critical or financial smash that she wanted. We still don’t have the name of the new album or the release date, but Gaga did drop a new single called “Perfect Illusion.” Some people think this is about Taylor Kinney. I hope not, simply because I would hope that their relationship would inspire better music.

It’s not great, right? It’s not even catchy.

So, this is pretty much the evidence that Gaga is going to try to dominate the last months of the year, and 2017 too. What better way to quench that thirst than to sign on for the Super Bowl Half Time show? Was Gaga’s anthem performance this year just a preview?!

Lady Gaga is inching closer to one of the biggest gigs on the planet: performing at the Super Bowl halftime show in 2017. Sources tell Billboard that Gaga is in talks for the 51st annual football showdown, scheduled for Feb. 5, 2017 at NRG Stadium in Houston. One of the main reasons for why the NFL is said to be hot on the singer was her performance of the National Anthem at the 2016 Super Bowl. That year, Coldplay — with guests Beyonce and Bruno Mars — shared the halftime stage to mixed reviews.

“We have had conversations with several fantastic artists about the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show. However, at this point we do not have a final decision,” an NFL rep told Billboard when asked about Gaga. “We’re happy there is so much excitement about the show.”

Gaga is coming off of several high-profile appearances in recent years, including a 2015 performance at the Academy Awards which was followed by an Oscar nomination the next year for “‘Til It Happens to You” for best original song (written for the documentary The Hunting Ground). Gaga also won a Golden Globe in 2016 for best actress in a miniseries or television film for her role on the FX series American Horror Story: Hotel.

I mean, if we’re just spitballing, I say they should just get Beyonce back, because why not? Beyonce should just have a standing offer to perform at all future Half-Time shows and only after Beyonce says no, then they move on to other candidates. I don’t really think Gaga will be great performing at a football-oriented audience, but I’ve been wrong before. Maybe Gaga would really bring it.

  1. Hannah says:

1 – Gaga has enough good hits to sing at the Superbowl.
2 – This song is a bad illusion, many people saying it resembles Madonna (again).
3 – These shorts do Gaga no favors.

  2. Kitten says:

If circa 1987 Madonna and Amy Winehouse had a baby.

  3. Lilacflowers says:

Aretha Franklin should be the Super Bowl halftime act. Saw her last month and her show was insanely energetic and had the crowd up and dancing in the aisles. Aretha, the Queen. Everyone else can just sit down.

  4. SilverUnicorn says:

Do I get stoned if I say I ‘generally’ like her music? lol

    • Tiffany :) says:

…I really like some of her earlier stuff, but I didn’t get into Artpop at all. I also like Perfect Illusion.

      :: runs for cover ::

    • AbrarAk says:

What’s there to like about this song?

    • Val says:

I like the song but it sounds… badly tuned? Like something is off. It really bothers me I keep wanting to “fix” it.
I also find her exhausting though, with all the crazy fashion and over-the-top everything… she’s been gone for a while but I still feel like she’s overexposed and oversaturated. Plus she is still considered a huge star here in Europe I still don’t get why?

      • Erica_V says:

Yes Val – it feels unfinished like the vocals sit on top of the music vs being integrated into it. I also am not a big fan of her more operatic vocal style. The best part is the opening chord and guitar/synth scream.

  5. Taiss says:

Now that she and Taylor broke up, she’s back at being half naked.

  6. lexx says:

Super bowl gaga is fine as long as she does fame and fame monster songs only.

    • PGrant's Girl says:

Yeah, those are still both great. Everything after that went totally downhill, although I wouldn’t mind if she did “Edge of Glory” too.

      • Val says:

Have you heard the slow Christmas (I think it was?) version of Edge of Glory? It’s beautiful, and it was used on SYTYCD a few years ago…beautiful performance by the dancers.

  7. arock says:

sounds like a taylor dayne remix

  8. Vic says:

This song is not catchy at all, sounds auto tuned to death. That is no “bad romance” contender, that’s for sure. I honestly think that Gaga already peaked and should let it go…

  9. Felice. says:

Beyonce and Gaga singing Telephone together live finally.

  10. Jayna says:

Talk about repetitive. There was hope for it, kind of catchy, but it’s like she ran of out ideas and just kept repeating the line about perfect illusion over and over and over.

  11. naomipaige says:

Am I the only one who can’t stand this chick?

    • Zwella Ingrid says:

I can’t stand her either. I like @Lilacflowers idea. Get Aretha.

    • LeAnn Stinks says:

No, I have never liked her. I find her boring and hypocritical. Plus, she seems over impressed with herself, which only adds to my disdain.

All sporting events play hard rock music over their sound systems. Also, the NY Giants even kick off to “Hells Bells.” The NFL really should have a great rock band play the half time show. AC/DC should have been chosen years ago.

  12. Drew says:

As much as Gags annoys me, she really is a good performer. I think she would be a good choice for the halftime show.

  13. Bridget says:

Okay, did Gaga sell her soul to the devil (ie the Kris Jenner special)? Because her music has been terrible for a while, and yet she’s still getting high profile gigs and acting jobs, when she is really not great.

  14. Steph says:

She doesn’t even look like herself anymore. I used to like Gaga but she became so insufferable…

  15. Impmom says:

I was actually impressed by Gaga in AHS because I was So angry and thought she was going to ruin it! But with the whole generally campy feel it was great! This song sucks so much though :/

  16. Abbess Tansy says:

Meh, I like her boots. That’s all I’ve got.

  17. Bee says:

I like/love a lot of Gaga’s past music but this latest song is average at best. She’s lost her musical mojo. She also now contradicts everything she used to preach.

  18. Amanda DG says:

Her new single has grown on me, but it’s not great. I prefer singing over shouting. It reminds me of Judas. She claims it’s not about Taylor and is about social media. I also hope they get back together, but it doesn’t seem likely if she’s heading into a new album release/tour.

She would be perfect for the super bowl.
