Anna Camp’s Reem Acra wedding dress: romantic and pretty or twee?

This post is just good, old-fashioned fun for me – I’ll tell you up front. I intend to get giggly and effusive and will bring no weight to the conversation so I hope you are up for it. Pitch Perfect co-stars Anna Camp and Skylar Astin got married over the weekend. The wedding was at Sunstone Winery, which is beautifully modeled after a Tuscan Villa (and produces a pretty decent Voignier, for those who are interested). Anna and Skylar have been dating for three years and got engaged last January while on vacation in Kauai. It is Anna’s second marriage and Skylar’s first. A few details dribbled out over the weekend but Anna finally treated us with some wedding dress shots of her Reem Acra gown. It’s a big, fluffy, romantic wedding dress:

What do you think? I love it. My mother still has views about wedding gowns and the number of marriages under you belt but I don’t. That may be a side-effect from selling wedding gowns for as many years as I did. I couldn’t pull off Anna’s gown because 1) I can’t wear strapless (linebaker shoulders) and 2) that skirt volume would swallow me whole (stubby legs). But I love the look, very 1950s prom dress with the multi-layer tulle skirt. The fingertip veil is perfect with the tulle as a cathedral-length veil would be overkill.

What else? Oh – the groom! Skylar wore a Ermenegildo Zegna tux with a white pocket square. He read personal vows. The wedding’s colors were peach and pink because Anna wanted a nature-friendly look. You can see various pics of the flowers et al on her Instagram. Among the 100 person guestlist were a handful of Pitch co-stars, including Brittany Snow who served as a bridesmaid.

Awkward High Five because these two nerds/ amazing friends of mine are getting MARRIED today! I 💓you both so much.

Rebel Wilson was there and looked really good in this little, pink, swing-skirted cocktail dress and ‘Dan,’ who apparently is the best wedding date (note to self).

Dan, the best wedding date!

And Pitch 2 director Elizabeth Banks attended as well and posted this, which made me smile because that is basically my Pavlovian response to Elizabeth Banks.

Best wishes to the couple. By the looks of her reception outfit, I imagine the whole day was a blast.

The dress is not my cup of tea, but she looked lovely.
Personal vows are also not my cup of tea. I don’t like listening to them, I would never ever have them at my wedding. I generally find them too sappy and personal to be shared with a bunch of people.

My smutty senses are tickling about Anna Kenedrick not being there. I’ve heard rumours that she held up productions on pitch perfect 3.

    • Bridget says:

They didn’t even get a new director to replace Banks until very recently. Pretty hard to hold up a production that’s not going yet.

      • Caitlin Bruce says:

I’m thinking that had something to do with Anna not wanting Elizabeth as the director. I’m just putting 2+2 together and making 5 but I have heard Anna doesn’t get along great with the rest of the cast who know whether or not if that’s true.

      • Bridget says:

Banks is still a producer, and gave the reason of parenting duties – no way a woman just starting out as a director would give that as a BS answer. If it were something else it would be “creative differences”.

    • Mandy says:

Lainey said something similar. Now my senses are tingling!

Cute and Bland and twee, like the couple, oddly more into the surely biscuit flashing second number… even if it’s veering into Pnina Tornai Territory… at least the whole thing shows.. personality, I guess?

    • Mmac51 says:

Oh Lord, whenever they bust out a Pnina Tornai on Say Yes To The Dress, it’s kind of the best. I have a soft spot for tacky, you guys. The first dress is very, very pretty, but the second is a bit Icecapades for me.

    ACA AWESOME congrats!

I don’t know if I’d want a huge wedding for my second marriage but that’s just me. I haven’t even been married once, so my opinion really means nothing. They look cute together! I’m not a fan of strapless wedding dresses at all though. I also hate Rebel’s hair (the cut and color), and I hate how dark her eyebrows are compared to the bleached color. Brittany snow is ridiculously pretty though. This is the end of my random judgements.

    • Locke Lamora says:

I really love the combination of dark eyebrows and blonde hair, but Rebel is one of the few people who don’t look good with bangs, so that’s what’s messing up her look.

Skylar Astin will always remind me of his character from Hamlet 2. I love that movie and he’s hilarious in it.

    • Erinn says:

Ahhhh that’s where I’ve seen him prior to Pitch Perfect!
I loved that movie so much… I remember the first time I watched it, I watched it again the next day.

And I’ll forever remember his horrible center-part, glasses, and knicker pants in “Spring Awakening”…

  7. minx says:

Aw, I love these two. They are adorable.

  8. Lucy says:

She’s one of those Acapella girls, he’s one of those Acapella boys…:) Congrats and lots of happiness!! Really like both of them.

  9. TheOtherMaria says:

It’s ugly as sin to me but if she likes it, I love it.

  10. Dubois says:

She’ll always be Mrs Steve Newlin to me. Congrats Sarah Newlin!!

  11. Robin says:

The top photo is just beautifully composed. Pretty much the perfect wedding photo.

  12. blairski says:

I don’t normally like this Princess style of dress but it looks really terrific on her. I’ll always have a soft spot for everyone involved in Pitch Perfect, so it was fun to see photos of them.

  13. Betsy says:

    She’s adorable.

  14. Jezza says:

    She looked lovely! Congrats!

    (Ugh! I can’t with the word twee🙄)

  15. KatM says:

I think she looks lovely but I would of chosen a different style for her hair.

  16. Pmnichols says:

Love it and they look so happy! God bless.

  17. lucy2 says:

That’s a lovely photo of the two of them. I didn’t know they were a couple!
The dress is pretty – and she looks happy and comfortable.

  18. Abby says:

CUUUUUTE! This post made my morning.

  19. Scal says:

I mean it’s his first marriage-why should one member of a couple miss out on the experience because their chosen partner has been married before? It’s about both of them.

Now when the bride AND the groom are on marriage 2/3/4 then I def. give the sideeye at the big wedding get up. 4th times the charm?

  20. Erica_V says:

Is it just my monitor or does her dress have just a hint of pale blue to it?

I’m in the beginning stages of planning my wedding (my second, his first) and I’m looking for a less traditional gown and was thinking making it a color would be great.

Also, I agree with the commentor above. It’s not my fiance’s fault I was married before why should he and his family (aka his Mom) miss out on a celebratory day? I am pushing for a more Jack & Jill party shower or engagement party vs a true bridal shower as I do feel like I’ve been there and done that.

  21. serena says:

I love the dress, not so much the hairstyle though.
Rebel should do something with her hair, on another hand, they just look messy.

  22. pato says:

she´s so beautiful. I really like the dress and the husband!
I first saw her in the play Equus and she was wonderful.
