Victoria Beckham is ‘so proud’ that Harper, 5, can run in heels

Victoria Beckham showed her Spring 2017 line last Sunday at NYFW, with husband David and son Brooklyn in the front row. Personally I really like her new collection, it’s much more colorful and relaxed and shows some real growth in her designs. This skirt is my favorite. Victoria is a big name in fashion, not bad for someone on their second career. So with her mom a major fashionitsa, where does that leave her daughter, Harper? Following in her mom’s footsteps, of course – and doing so in heels. While promoting her Estée Lauder makeup line on Late Night with Seth Meyers Tuesday, Victoria spoke of Harper’s long standing stiletto skills and how she jumps the line between Tomboy and girly-girl.

“She’s a little tomboy, playing in the garden with her brothers, playing football — and [husband David Beckham] as well,” the mom of four, 42, shared of her youngest child and only daughter Harper Seven, 5.

“She’s also very girly, so she loves to play with makeup,” adds Beckham, who herself has been busy taking part in New York Fashion Week and whose own limited edition Estée Lauder makeup line launched Tuesday in N.Y.C.

“She has been able to run in a pair of high heels for a long time. So proud. So proud.”

[From People]

I knew Harper was my spirit child. I used to drive my mother crazy ruining my church dresses by playing football (American) on the lawn while she chatted during coffee hour. I never really broke that habit, either. If there a good scrimmage going, silk blouse be damned. I totally get Victoria’s pride in Harper’s ability in heels, but that’s not exclusive. I know many young kids who work heels better then their parents, including my own. Getting them to match those heels to the right outfit, now there’s your challenge.

Seth also asked Victoria about Cruz’s “Cups” video, to which Victoria replied, “We are like a traveling circus, our family. We sing, we dance, we do football, we do fashion.” I cannot tell you how much money I would pay to see the Beckham Family Traveling Circus. It would be a glorious event with color-coordinated animals that play football and dance. And Harper would be the ringleader because you know that’s who she is in the Beckham household.

While doing an exclusive for The Morning Show, Victoria was once again asked about why she never smiles. I get a little tired of her being asked this. If you watch her in interviews or her snapchats, she jokes and laughs a lot. So she doesn’t smile for press, she’s already said she doesn’t like how her smile looks in photos. With all these people adopting the open-mouth, lobotomy-patient look on the red carpet, who cares if she chooses RBF? Plus, Victoria is beautiful, rich, has a successful fashion line, a white-hot husband, adorable children, is always well-dressed and travels the world when she chooses. If she were up there grinning ear to ear, I’d accuse her of just rubbing it in my face.

There is no reason for anyone under 16 to wear heels, period. I’d be embarrassed, not proud.

    • Jenna says:

I think it was a joke.

    • Prairiegirl says:

It has to be sarcasm or some kind of dry English humour. She doesn’t strike me as a pageant mom who might *actually* be *proud* of that.

    • Noor88 says:

Says who? You? So your views should reflect society as a whole? Pleazzzzzze

    • SunnyD says:

Chill, almost every little girl plays with mommy’s shoes. My kid can take off in a pair of heels too. I don’t think they actually make a child sized pump. It’s just fun. I’m in no way embarrassed by my daughter or son walking around the house in heels.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

My takeaway is that she is proud her daughter happily enjoys tomboy/non-gender specific activities as much as she enjoys her mother’s world. Not really a big deal.

    • Wiffie says:

She can be proud about something her daughter does that is a reflection of herself, it’s ok. It’s likely not school grades level proud, or being a good person proud, but she can love it when she does something surprising and well.

I let my 3 year old paint her nails once, she’s pretty good, and since I’m into nails and nail art, it makes me excited when she wants them stamped and lovely. Well once I walked in on her with a bottle of seche vite, and when I told her that was mine and she needed to stick to piggy paint, she said, “mommy I needed quick dry topcoat. I want to play duplos.” And I beamed with pride. It looks just like the base coat bottle too, I’m amazed she grabbed the right one. So proud! …….but that shit’s toxic, give it back to mommy. Here’s piggy paint, Kiddo. But damn I love you.

Numerous studies show that wearing heels can permanently damage your feet and legs. “Permanent” as in, for the rest of your life, even after you stop wearing heels (some women can never stop wearing heels because the pain they feel when they revert to flat shoes is too much). But it’s not popular to say that, because looking attractive is more important than health, even for young girls.

      • Jwoolman says:

I think Kim Kardashian has said that’s her situation, although I’ve seen her very occasionally in flat shoes so I don’t know if that’s consistent. But she does seem to wear high heels when it would seem more reasonable not to do so. It strikes me as the modern version of foot binding.

      • my3cents says:

Didn’t Victoria have that with her feet?
I think she had surgery and had to wear flats a while back due to over wearing high heels.

“If she were up there grinning ear to ear, I’d accuse her of just rubbing it in my face.”

    LOL ain’t that the truth

  3. Ronaldinhio says:

i never know if VB is joking or not, I know people who have worked with her and apparently she is surprisingly funny and sarcastic
i am not going to judge her or her parenting….it isn’t my thing

    • Spidey says:

I think overall the Beckhams have been pretty good parents to their kids.

But how the hell does any woman (let alone child) wear heels, they are agony.

      • LAK says:

I have very high arches in my feet which makes heels very comfortable. The higher the better. Flats are agony to my feet which is a shame because I love the look of ballet flats and penny loafers, but would be in agony a minute of wear.

And I don’t have bunions despite decades of high heels.

      • lilacflowers says:

@LAK, I can’t wear flats comfortably either for the same reason. I have Barbie doll feet and flats seem to tear my heels apart. But not too high. Two inches is perfect.

      • Betti says:

I have to wear heels most of the time as if i wear flats too long i get Plantar Fasciitis (heel pain) and my feet and ankles swell.

I love VB’s clothes but i could never wear them let alone afford them – she’s found something that she’s good at. And yes she’s known to have quite the sense of humour – the public got to see it when she did that short lived docu series where you got a glimpse into her life.

      • Zimmerman says:

@LAK. I also have high arches and your comment made me realize that’s why flats are hard for me to walk in. Don’t know if you’ve tried wearing Tom’s, but I find they are more comfortable than most flats for me anyway.

      • TyrantDestroyed says:

I have very high arches but pronounced skinny bony feet that tend to develop blisters with most kind of shoes. I cannot wear heels more than 30 mins without having to pay for it the day after.
My go for option is always flats which is sad because sometimes I want to have a more formal look and wear heels but I feel in pain all the time.

      • LAK says:

Tyrantdestroyed: i have bony feet and ankles too! 🙂

Have you tried wearing insoles or padded gels in your shoes? That helps my feet.

Some companies also have shoe ranges that are padded internally.

Further, due to the trend for extreme heels, you can buy gel or padded plaster inserts for the bony parts of the feet. The idea is for wearing extreme heels in comfort, but those inserts are pretty good for all levels of heels.

      • WeAreAllMadeOfStars says:

Well I for one spent my childhood getting palmed on the top of my head because I would walk around on tippy toes, so I think wearing heels is strangely natural for some people. I don’t much wear them anymore though truthfully.

      • lisa says:

i’m so happy to hear other people say flats hurt their feet

flats kill me and no one believes it

even a heel where the front has a thin flat sole hurts my foot, the whole thing has to be elevated for me to be comfortable

  4. lilacflowers says:

I really like the colors in her Estee Lauder line but discovered most of it was sold out online last night.

    • Goats on the Roof says:

I wanted to get my hands on the Aura Illuminating creme/primer, and I can’t find it anywhere. Gutted! I guess I wasn’t really expecting it to sell quite so fast.

      • lilacflowers says:

They must have made a really limited number of batches because this line only went on sale the other day and it seems to be all gone. The colors looked beautiful. I’m going to check a few of the stores around here to see if they have any of it but I’m not holding my breath given that the online store is out of almost everything but a few lip glosses and the $95 eye palette.

      • Jenn4037 says:

I imagine people bought more than their fair share and you’ll find it on ebay.

  5. Amandahugandkiss says:

Girl, please. My son was running in my knee-high stilletto boots by the time he was 3.

  6. Nancy says:

High expectations. Running in heels was mandatory for me as a businesswoman, but for a five year old??? Practice. All in all, the family seems like a family which in their world can’t be easy.

  7. brincalhona says:

Honestly didn’t recognise her from the first couple of pics.

  8. Alix says:

Is she incapable of getting her pants hemmed?

  9. serena says:

    #accomplishments

  10. Birdix says:

What’s going on with how low she’s wearing her pants and skirt? She must have a very long waist or the skirt is at the top of her thighs.

  11. Becki says:

I have always admired her and her sweet family. Way to go Victoria 🙂

  12. Beckysuz says:

My two year son is obsessed with shoes. All shoes. Mine, my husband’s, his sibs. He loves to go in my closet and put on my heels. He just clanks around the house wearing them. I think it’s cute, albeit a little scary. But he can even navigate stairs wearing them(I stand at the bottom just in case)

  13. perplexed says:

Looking at the photo there of David and Brooklyn with Anna Winter, it’s baffling to me that Brooklyn Beckham could be a model, even with him coming from a famous family.

    • LAK says:

It’s true nepotism because objectively, irrespective of connections, he is not model material.

He is completely and forgetably ordinary looking.

  14. Spikey says:

I remember her chav days in the early 2000s and I’m amazed at how her personal style has evolved. She always looks so polished now, I’m green with envy. I would totally wear her outfit from the show, like all day every day. God, why do her clothes have to be so expensive? *pulls hair* Anyone care to fund me? 😉

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

I just love the clothes featured here. She is simply effortlessly chic, omg- especially the orange two piece. Gorgeous.

  15. NeoCleo says:

I really like where she is going with her fashion line.

  16. sequinedheart says:

I love her sandals and jeans look. I want those sandals. I can never find flat sandals that are comfortable or flattering for my high arched size 9.5 feet 🙁
Ohhhh that orange number is so so gorgeous!
I loved the spice girls when I was a wee lass. I was 11 and they were the coolest group. I always loved VB, she didn’t seem as fake and staged as the others, she was merely her posh self.
Now creating a successful fashion line – girrrrrl, you can do anything! plus, in the famous world in which she dwells, her family seems lovely and down to earth (in comparison to other super fame-whore families)

  17. thaisajs says:

No offense to Victoria, but I’m much rather see photos of Harper with this post. She’s a cutie.

    • Chinoiserie says:

Agreed, dissapointed, it had been forever. I do not usually support celebrity kids pictures but I know these family has some pictures of their kids around anyway so I would have liked to see one since I have not seen one of Harper for so long.

  18. hey-ya says:

….I thought it was sad that no-one other than her family sat front row…plus crushed velvet for summer!….but otherwise yes pretty nice….

  19. JRenee says:

    I love the orange outfit!

  20. Tar04 says:

    Me too … really proud.
