Meghan McCain complains about Wanda Sykes’ jokes at Correspondents dinner

wenn2410539
Saturday night was one of the biggest nights in Washington, the annual White House Correspondents dinner. Politicos, journalists, celebrities and everything in between put on conservative black-tie dress and listen as people make uncomfortable jokes about the president, the cabinet, the press, and pretty much everybody else. Some weird stuff has gone down at Correspondents’ dinners in the past, but this year’s seemed pretty tame. No rapping Karl “MC” Rove, no Stephen Colbert mocking President Bush to his face.

Meghan McCain took note of some of the jokes aimed at her family, though, and complained about Wanda Sykes routine. Wanda made fun of nearly everyone, and a few of her jokes were in poor taste. But what Wanda said about the McCain family wasn’t even that bad: “Sen. McCain gave you grief about the new helicopters you didn’t order… I think Mr. McCain was a little bitter because he wanted to be in the new helicopters. Mr. McCain, I’m sure if you ask nicely, your wife will buy you a new helicopter.” Haha, a rich joke. It wasn’t even very original, but it still upset Meghan. Of course, the New York Daily News is reporting that Meghan was acting like a spoiled little princess the whole night, so perhaps it wasn’t just the joking:

[Meghan McCain] lost it after getting stopped by security when she arrived at the White House Correspondents dinner Saturday. The problem? She had only two tickets, but brought two friends.

“The security guard sent her to talk to someone to sort out the situation, but Meghan got bratty and nastily told him, ‘We’ll just stand here then,’ like an insolent child,” our source said, adding that after dealing with the guard, “She muttered to her friends, ‘Does he even know who the f— I am?’ ”

An insider told us, “Those tickets were harder to get than gold dust and Meghan blatantly only had two and thought she didn’t have to follow the same rules as everyone else.”

The vocal McCain “was complaining about everything from the air-conditioning to the wait,” says our leak.

Once inside, the bubbly blond’s mood didn’t improve; she was annoyed at Wanda Sykes roast.

“Sen. McCain gave you grief about the new helicopters you didn’t order,” said Sykes, adding, “I think Mr. McCain was a little bitter because he wanted to be in the new helicopters. Mr. McCain, I’m sure if you ask nicely, your wife will buy you a new helicopter.”

While the assembled crowd of politicos, journalists and celebrities roared with laughter, Meghan was not among them.

“I didn’t like the joke about my mom [Cindy],” the young McCain told us after the dinner. “Why talk about her at all? I (didn’t mind the jokes) about my dad, but leave my mom out of it. It really wasn’t in good taste.”

[From New York Daily News]

Here are some examples of Wanda Sykes’ jokes that I thought actually crossed the line: “Sarah Palin’s not here. She pulled out at the last minute. Someone oughta tell her that’s not how you practice abstinence.” Ugh, not only mildly offensive, it’s not even funny. Wanda also poked fun at Rush Limbaugh, saying: “You know, you might want to look into this, [President Obama], because I think maybe Rush Limbaugh was the 20th hijacker, but he was just so strung out on OxyContin he missed his flight. … Rush Limbaugh hopes the country fails? I hope his kidneys fail, how ’bout that?” Way to ricochet away from a “Rush Limbaugh is a drug addict” joke into a joke about September 11th. Not cool, Wanda.

shut your pie hole, McCain. And I think the Limbaugh jokes were the best. Limbaugh is the king of tasteless insults. Bend him over so he can take it like he dishes it.

She’s one of THOSE. Thinks she’s special. How nice.

  3. Lem says:

I also get nasty when my “size 6” dress is choking the life out of my tatas and sqeezing my bellies

  4. bros says:

sykes was on fire. she’s a true comic. nothing she said about Rush was any more offensive than what he has said about obama. and jenny mccarthy’s dress was in poorer taste than wanda’s jokes.

  5. Sauronsarmy says:

Holy crap did anybody else think that was Bridget from The Girls Next Door?

  6. Kayleigh says:

Yeah, whats with that pose? Trying to look prego? Or just really bloated?

  7. neelyo says:

Somebody left their neck at home. That dress she’s wearing is truly unfortunate and that pose isn’t helping.

I hope that ‘Don’t they know who I am?’ business isn’t true. She was actually becoming a Republican I could like or at least respect.

  8. the original kate says:

i can’t stand meghan mccain – she is a dimwitted, whiny, spoiled brat who has been riding daddy’s name & mommy’s money her whole life. if she is the face of the “new” republican party, they are in worse shape than i thought!

  9. TaylorB says:

I am not defending her comment about Rush, that was really tasteless, but in all fairness Mr Limbaugh has said some really awful things as well so he isn’t exactly some innocent victim. Going beyond that it is Wanda Sykes, of course she is going to say controversial and at times wildly insensitive things, that is her style. And while she isn’t my favorite stand up, she is in fact a comedian and at least she says things like that as a ‘joke’ and part of her act. Pundits, like Mr Limbaugh and others on both sides of the aisle are actually taken seriously when they make tasteless comments. Personally I never cared for Mr Limbaugh one way or the other he was really never on my radar, until he made fun of Michael J. Fox and went so far as to visually mock his tremors, that took tasteless to a new level. So, in his case he should be very careful of crying foul.

  10. TaylorB says:

Oh, and I forgot to say, Ms McCain is a very bright, lovely young woman, and I am obviously no fashion expert but that dress seemed a bit too small.

  11. OXA says:

Wanda Sykes was BRILLIANT and Meghan McCain is a spoiled brat, too stupid to think her parents would not be targeted.

  12. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

Is she pregnant or something? HORRIBLE dress.

  13. Bodhi says:

    Ditto TaylorB, on both comments

  14. Darya says:

No I did not think it was Bridget from The Girls Next Door. Bridget has a nice body and a great personality. This fat fame whore has neither.

  15. Iggles says:

    Love this quote:

“Sarah Palin’s not here. She pulled out at the last minute. Someone oughta tell her that’s not how you practice abstinence.”

LOL!!! I think it IS funny, Kaiser!
    To each his/her own.

  16. Kaiser says:

No, I don’t think the dress is too small, it just makes her look horrible because she doesn’t have a waist.

I would actually love to have her dress – it’s really pretty, and my taste. But unlike Meghan, I have a waist.

  17. blubb says:

the palin joke is funny as hell and well deserved.

  18. TaylorB says:

    Kaiser,

I agree that she has no discernable waist so it doesn’t flatter her, but it is the tightness of the top that initially caught my eye, it looks like her poor boobs are attempting to escape.

  19. HEB says:

I like her, but I can tell she thinks she’s the shit.
I thought the Sykes joke was kinda funny, hey his wife bought him his senator seat, why can’t she buy him a helicopter too?

  20. Peg says:

    Loved Wanda Sykes’ routine.

Limbaugh deserves any oxycontin/viagra jokes that he gets. In fact, if he were any one else, Hannity would be calling for jail time!

  21. Kaiser says:

TaylorB – Yeah, I see what you’re talking about with the top of the dress – but I really think she’s wearing a bra that’s jacking those puppies up – look how loose the fabric is everywhere else. It’s just a bad dress for her body type.

  22. daisy424 says:

Looked more like the Oscars to me.
Ms. Sykes ‘joke’ about the 20th hijacker was disgusting and in VERY bad taste. I don’t care who it was directed at, bad taste.

  23. daisy424 says:

Sorry, double post. Using my son’s laptop, crazy mouse…….

  24. mE says:

Glad she isn’t getting a pass. I wouldn’t expect for a conservative commentator who made jokes in extremely poor taste (and not even timely or funny ones at that) to get a pass either. There is a difference in saying you want the man himself to fail than saying you want what you perceive to be his socialistic policies to fail. Basic reading comprehension.

Meghan McCain really needs to grow a thicker skin if she is offended by a Rich Daddy/ Sugar Mama type joke.

  25. Hieronymus Grexx says:

I told you, she’s just a GOP shill.

  26. Beth says:

Did anyone else notice Natalie Portman’s nipple peaking out from behind her dress?!?!?!?! That’s not like her at all.

  27. Mel says:

This dress couldn’t be more unflattering. It accentuates her lack of a waist, and the roundness makes her look pregnant. Obviously the two friends that she brought weren’t very good ones if theylet her go out in public like that.

  28. boomchakaboom says:

I thought Wanda Sykes was hilarious.

  29. hmm says:

There is no distinction in saying that you want the new President to fail..in essence you are saying that you want the country to fail and that is unconscionable. I am astounded that the same Republicans who excoriated anyone who criticized Bush (see Dixie Chicks) was practically lynched and now they’re defending their drug addled spokesperson. Rush felt no need to apologize for his disgusting comments about Michael J. Fox or referring to biracial people as Half-rican Americans and he doesn’t seem to care about good taste or decency so what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. And Meghan’s dress was unflattering but what was worse was her diva-ish behavior at the event as she showed herself to be as spoiled and temperamental as her parents.

  30. anon says:

I thought Wanda Sykes was hilarious, the Palin joke was funny as hell. I dunno, how is that poor taste? I think Colbert was much worse, he was mocking them and laughing at the fact that they were unaware that he was mocking them. at least Sykes came out n said stuff directly. I thought Colbert was hilarious too though, and I don’t think humour can really be in poor taste unless you make fun of dead ppl or something, if it makes you laugh it’s in good taste. If its not funny and just offensive then it’s not.
And honestly, a joke about being rich? puh-lease, Meghan knows being rich is a good thing, right? What next, are comedians going to start picking on the poor, beautiful ppl?

  31. Giz says:

Meghan should be glad Wanda didn’t say something about that dress she was wearing. A-duh! And since when did she become a mouth-piece?

Face it, it’s Wanda Sykes. Everybody knows about her humor. I confess to being surprised that Sykes was allowed to do this event!

And the Republicans were offended by Sykes? Geez! These are the same folks how spew out ridiculous comments like a bad case of the trots!

  32. mae says:

isnt it funny that as soon as people start taking her seriously because she has well thought out points about the GOP, the New York Daily News reports what a horrible, spoiled brat she is? Hmmm….coincidence? I don’t think so.

Open your eyes people. Someone on the right gets a little respect and instantly the liberal media attempts to bring them down. Ridiculous.

  33. TaylorB says:

    Mae,

To be fair Ms McCain is often under attack by the right leaning media as well, Laura Inghram (sp?) recently lit into her pretty harshly, and not so much for her views but because she is ‘heavy’.

As for her being a ‘brat’ well if she indeed behaved the way it was reported then it seems a rather accurate description. She may not be a full time ‘brat’ but as with most people, myself included, from time to time our inner toddler will rear its head.

  34. Henry Hobson says:

So Meaghan, Rush Limbaugh mocking Michael J Fox and his parkinson’s disese if “funny” but Rush’s own drug use isn’t? He wishes that Obama fails according to that fat gasbag. If Obama fails, that would mean WE THE PEOPLE FALL EVEN FURTHER……WTF Meaghan get a real job. Or does mommy support you?

  35. Jen says:

Whomever wrote this needs to get a sense of humor. The Palin and Rush jokes were not only deserved but funny to everyone I have told. As far as this spoiled little brat, no I do not know who she is really, she’s a nobody in my book, famous simply for the fact she tries to be famous. Please people, please, get a sense of humor and think outside the black and white lines that make up the coloring book.
