Jon Voight on Brangelina: ‘Something very serious must have happened’

wenn29554446

Jon Voight was nominated for an Emmy on Sunday for his work on Ray Donovan (one of CB’s favorite shows). By all accounts, Voight is doing great work on the show and he’s been well-deserving of the awards, nominations and critical acclaim. But the main thing most people care about in regards to Voight is his daughter, Angelina Jolie. What kills me a little is that even after all of this time, even after their years-long estrangement and gradual thawing, Voight still runs to media outlets to comment on his daughter and her family. You would think that by now, he would know better. The best way to stay on Angelina’s good side is to just shut up. As the news broke about the Brangelina Split, Voight somehow ended up making some exclusive comments to Inside Edition. NOT EVEN E!. Inside Edition?! Who goes to Inside Edition?

Brangelina is reportedly over and Angelina Jolie’s dad, actor Jon Voight, has unloaded his feelings on the divorce shocker to Inside Edition.

“It’s very sad,” the Midnight Cowboy star said Tuesday. “Something very serious must have happened for Angie to make a decision like this.”

Reports of the split first appeared on TMZ. Voight confirmed them, but said his daughter’s motivations are not yet clear to him. And whatever the reason, he’s concerned for his daughter.

“I don’t know what it is,” Voight told Inside Edition. “It’s a sad thing. Say a little prayer.”

The 77-year-old said he learned the news not from Angelina, with whom his relationship has been strained at times over the years, but from his son.

“I am concerned for Angie and the children and hopefully I will be seeing them very soon,” he said.

[From Inside Edition]

The most interesting part: “he learned the news not from Angelina, with whom his relationship has been strained at times over the years, but from his son.” As in, James Haven called Voight and gave him a heads-up, after which Voight ran out to Inside Edition to make some comments. I would be very interested in knowing everything that James Haven knows about his sister’s marriage. Considering how quiet he’s been for so many years, I suspect that Angelina still talks to her brother about everything. But sure, say a “little prayer” for Brangelina. Light some candles too! This is so messy.

Last thing: Voight is a huge Donald Trump supporter and Donald Trump has a weird thing about publicly attacking Angelina. The whole thing is so bizarre.

This man should know well enough to keep his pie hole shut when it comes to commenting on his daughter.

But hey, thanks for highlighting the obvious Jackie!

    • minx says:

He’s an idiot. She’s right to stay away from him.

    • Ronaldinhio says:

I thought his comments were respectful to her and he didn’t run his mouth off

He said she would only have filed over something significant = she really values her marriage and family and isn’t crazy

He requested that we say a little prayer = nice thing to request after the death of a marriage

He also told them he knew nothing

  2. Aussieboy says:

yeah pitt is voting Trump like you lol….that’s “what happened”

  3. milla says:

great actor, bad father. he should just say NO COMMENT!

    • Erinn says:

I’m still surprised that his comments were as brief as they were. Guy really can’t keep his mouth shut, but given that, I’m surprised that it wasn’t worse.

    • Roxanne says:

Probably was more like “not a very good husband” to AJ’s beloved mother. So, she holds all that against him, after decades. She can hold onto the hate, for sure. This could really get ugly with her & Pitt. She’s unmerciful to men that “wronged” her.

      • milla says:

Well, I was in Angie’s shoes and while I do not hate my father at all (he is not alive, so he cannot care about that), I simply do not feel like he is my father, just a sperm donor. That pain, when you see your mother crashing down never goes away.

      • lily says:

Sounds like a Taylor Swift thread. Never heard of her bashing anyone.

    • Evil Queen says:

He was a great actor about 3 times in his life. Now he is just an a-hole. And Midnight Cowboy was great because of Dustin Hoffman. Period.

  4. Shambles says:

Why… why would you do this? Are you just a sad, aging man trying to reach out to your daughter in any way you can? The comments he made make it very clear he knows nothing about the situation, but he still sure as hell wants to garner some attention by discussing it. This is gross. All of it is gross.

  5. QQ says:

This dude is Just INCAPABLE of not running his flap to Nancy O’dell at the mere sight of a crumb of info! ( If this was my father We would NEVER speak full stop!, as it Is I run my Family in VERY need to know basis so I cannot Imagine if they were this Pressed for a Microphone on the regular!)

  6. MarthaB. says:

I was just waiting for a moment when he would chime in, lol!
    Shut up, Jon Voight!

  7. paolanqar says:

Why every single person is coming up with an opinion? I probably have more contact with Angelina than he does.. I know they ALL want to be a part of this but no one knows anything so just say NO comment?

  8. Mia4S says:

    Jon, you idiot, let me help you with your statement;

“For the sake of my grandchildren I will not be making any public comments on this. My primary concern is for them. I will have no further comment.”

There. Was that so hard? Ugh. I cannot stand him!

  9. Hannah says:

Gee, ya think?! What amazing insight.

  10. lala says:

Jon Voight, sir, stop talking. And btw how is Shaquira?

  11. g.lamerek says:

Same dad that called her unstable while trying to adopt Maddox? What has he been doing while his daughter has led a positive life.

  12. Lilacflowers says:

Sure. Something MUST have happened. He has no clue but has to weigh in because, despite all the awards, THIRST! It is all about him.

  13. The New Classic says:

It really didn’t take long for this sad old man to run to the media to try to garner attention for himself. It sucks that Angelina has had to deal with this man all her life. I don’t blame her one bit for cutting him off.

  14. Colette says:

He did interview with NY Daily News, spoke to Inside Edition in phone interview.I also saw him give an interview in his car possibly to ET.He will probably go on a f#cking press tour.

    • WTW says:

I’m probably going to get crucified on here, but I don’t think Voight is running to news outlets; I think they are approaching him, and he’s responding, which he clearly doesn’t have to do. However, I actually think he said very little here. While he could have said “no comment,” saying the little that he did say is a nice gesture for journalists (who have a job to do) and simultaneously maintains the privacy of his daughter. Voight didn’t say anything that the public didn’t already know. Saying something serious must have happened does not infringe on Angie’s privacy. It’s a pretty, “no, duh” comment. But as a journalist, I’d be grateful for that remark over “no comment.” I think his gesture was considerate to both the media and his daughter.

      • Ella says:

It is giving away a lot, though. He’s suggesting that “something very serious happened,” rather than that the marriage just went gradually downhill, or they fell out of love with each other, or they’d been experiencing issues for some time. It’s just going to add to speculation that there was an affair or something.

And he really has no right to comment on his daughter’s marriage out of “consideration” for the media.

  15. Luca76 says:

The man has no, zero, nada clue. So weird that he’s such a good actor.

  16. Neelyo says:

I admire his restraint in not blaming the split on Hillary Clinton.

  17. Squiggisbig says:

I hadn’t realized that he was nominated for an Emmy. I wonder if part of the reason Angie announced on Tuesday instead of Sunday/Monday was because she didn’t want her dad to already be in front of a bunch of cameras when the news broke

  18. JolieFangirl says:

I don’t know: she’s sorta treated him like shit in the past when I think he was seriously concerned for her (and would have been sitting prettier by keeping his mouth shut). The more family the better.

Plus he’s old. I’m (sadly) impressed he didn’t jump on the Bradwagon since Pg Six reported Brad/Voight hung out. But really: what did Voight say besides “Something serious must have happened…” (which is supportive of Angie: he doesn’t think Angie off-the-rails, and knows it’s not a matter she’d take lightly), and express wishes for people to pray for the kids.

  19. Riley says:

“Something very serious must have happened.”

Really Jon? How astute and insightful!

    He’s such a douche!

  20. Erandyn says:

I’m not usually one to bring up the (media contrived) Triad, but I just had a funny thought: both Angelina and Jennifer had an asshat parent who’d yap to the media about their child’s private life.

    • WTW says:

I think Jennifer’s mother was far worse. She seemed like an abusive textbook narcissist who resented her daughter’s success and put her down her entire life–long before Aniston was famous. Voight was a deadbeat dad who seemed genuinely concerned about his daughter’s welfare when he reconnected with her. While it was inappropriate for him to run to the media, Angelina self-admittedly had serious problems. Going to the media was not the right way for Voight to handle it, but I don’t think pure narcissism and resentment of his daughter motivated him to go to the media. In Jen’s case, I think that was the motivating factor.

  21. Please Consider says:

Well, I wonder if this whole mess just isn’t a distraction from something more serious going on in the world. (I’m talking about the timing and the cryptic wording of her reasons, not saying they’re faking a divorce.)

    • Ella says:

Yes, I’m sure Vladimir Putin is paying Angelina Jolie to divorce her husband in the hope of evading blame for the Syrian convoy attack.

      • Please Consider says:

Um, the last part of my post says I’m “not saying they’re faking a divorce”.
Perhaps you read sarcasm into my words, but there was none intended.

  22. Jeanette says:

I am just curious. How do we know his phone was not ringing off the hook? I know he is a idgit, but, I would think anyone connected to BA would be fair game to call up and get a comment.

    • Ella says:

I’m sure his phone rings off the hook every time anything remotely interesting happens in his daughter’s life. He should know by now how to (a) not answer it, or (b) say “I have no comment.”

      • lunchcoma says:

Here, it seems like (b) is the ideal choice. He gets at least some portion of the callers to go away, plus he gets points for (for once) being respectful of Angelina’s personal life. Of course, Voight can’t even manage to do that.

  23. popup says:

Trash human being and shitty father.

  24. jeanpierre says:

Her and haven have the most disturbing bound.

  25. Mrs. Darcy says:

He basically is Mickey Donovan isn’t he?
