Lindsay Lohan needed her fingertip reattached after gruesome boat injury

While I grew up in the suburbs, there were always lots of farms around and I ended up going to school with lots of farm kids who helped their parents on various family farms. Which meant that I went to school with a few kids who were missing fingers or fingertips because of farm accidents. I was good friends with a guy who only had two “nubs” for his ring finger and bird-finger on one hand. His nubs sort of made him cool – they were both freaky and enchanting. Anyway, that was my first thought when I read this Lindsay Lohan story: Lindsay came close to having a nub! But it was sort of fixed.

Lindsay Lohan lost a portion of her ring finger in a boating accident … and the pic is horrifying. Lindsay was enjoying Sunday in the ocean off Turkey when she tried pulling up the boat anchor and became entangled in it. The anchor pulled her down into the water and she struggled to get back in the boat as she tried untangling herself.

The anchor sliced off the tip of her finger. Her friends went on the hunt and found the detached digit on the deck of the boat. They rushed LiLo to an ER, where a plastic surgeon reattached it.

[From TMZ]

You can see the gruesome, NSFW finger photo here – I took the bullet on the Johnny Depp-finger story, but I have no desire to see Lindsay’s nub, so I didn’t look. I’m just assuming the whole thing is gruesome because how could it not be? As for The Story of the Cracked-Out Nub, does anyone else think that TMZ’s version makes little to no sense? The anchor pulled her into the water, she was trying to get back on the boat and her fingertip got sliced off? I don’t really get it. Still, it must have been traumatic for Lindsay and I’m glad they were able to find her fingertip and a plastic surgeon was able to reattach it.

*shudders* I hope is not her ✌️ FInger!

    • greenmonster says:

My first thought as well when I saw the first picture 🙂

    • Tifygodess24 says:

@qq That’s hilarious. You are on a roll today! 😋

    • swak says:

Saw pictures on DM and it was her ring finger on her left hand. Oops, no more wearing that engagement ring as she has been doing.

    • HH says:

So… I don’t boat…like, att all, but still, I’m gonna pass some judgement given what I do know about boating. Nothing about this story makes sense. She tried to lift an anchor? Isn’t that done with a mechanism? One that would not compromise her finger at all?

Also, why is she on boats ALL the time? Does she have an apt/condo/house? It’s very weird.

      • QQ says:

LOL You KNOW why she’s on boats all the time, don’t play

      • HH says:

@QQ – LOL! I’m trying to leave SOME room for doubt. Oh how the mighty have fallen…

      • JenniferJustice says:

I am a die-hard boater and unless there’s something super special about this particular boat’s anchor, I can’t figure out how this happened. First of all, the anchors on yachts are so big and heavy and long, they do have a mechanism – a button you push that brings it up or released it to go down. Now, I have had three different boats – different styles from power boat to pontoon to racing boat. They do not have a mechanism for the anchor. You manually drop it or pull it up, BUT the achor isn’t sharp. It’s super heavy, but not sharp. They’re making it sound like the anchor has been honed like a prop and that’s really weird. This supposedly happened on a yacht – right? Why would anybody be touching the anchor other than the yacht crew. You don’t rent a yacht and just drive off all by yourself. There is a crew on board who drive the boat, anchors it, drops you off on shore, etc. Not only is there no reason for Lilo to be touching the anchor, I don’t understand how she would/could and why she’d be allowed due to liability. Oh God! Liability! Get ready for a shake down yacht owner. Lilo’s looking for a few bucks through a settlement before a law suit trial.

I don’t believe this story. She probably used her coke knife to purposely slice her finger and blamed it on the anchor.

Also, how does one lose their finger tip on a deck when they’ve been pulled into the water? Think about how high a yacht’s deck is above the water level she’s apparently been under. Something’s really fishy about this sea story….bwaahaahaaa!

      • Tulip says:

She wasn’t mighty, she was just a human being about to have a great life until she was surrounded by really awful people and made bad decisions.

She has to take responsibility for her life, true. I STILL want to see her parents severely punished for not protecting their daughter and for not being there for her when she really needed them.

      • Tiffany :) says:

When I first hear about it, it sounded like it was the rope that cut her finger. If there is a rope that is tangled around a finger and it suddenly gets pulled very hard (by the anchor being dropped) , it would possibly take the finger off…but then they said it was the sharp anchor that took it off, and my theory was blown to bits.

      • Kitten says:

My dad almost lost his finger from dropping an air conditioner. The chord wrapped around his finger and almost snapped it all the way off.

I was picturing something similar as I read the story. Although…seems odd her fingertip would be on the deck of the boat and not in the water.

      • Erica_V says:

I think it happened on the dingy boat you take to and from the yacht to land, I don’t think it happened on the actual yacht. Being on a small boat makes more sense as to why she’d be touching/pulling up the anchor, how she might’ve caught her finger in the chain and it getting cut off while she lost balance and got pulled/fell into the water.

  2. Lora says:

I’m wondering how they found her fingertip in the water?

    • boredblond says:

Fingers float…kidding–the story says it was on the boat deck..it’s a bit confusing. I actually knew someone who had their fingers smashed between a boat and a dock, which makes more sense.

      • Belle Epoch says:

I don’t believe ANY part of this story, unless she was drunk and trying to play cute. No one in their right mind would send LL to haul up an anchor. She’s too weak to haul up an anchor for a rowboat. It’s almost impossible to get tangled up in an anchor chain because those suckers are heavy – let alone fall overboard in the process. No clue how you lose your fingertip pulling on something. Plus, most boats have motorized anchor winches. If this happened, and if I were anyone on that boat, I would have been furious at this totally unnecessary drama.

      • tealily says:

Yeah, I just assumed she was drunk and doing something she shouldn’t have been.

      • Bridget says:

Was just thinking something similar – a yacht isn’t going to just have an anchor on a rope.

  3. Patricia says:

    Ummm…. ok?
She’s the acquaintance who always has a story about why they are bruised and cut up and you never believe them because you know the real answer is drugs.

  4. minx says:

    Uh, okay.

  5. Aussie girl says:

The story makes no sense and my sister and i’s imagination ran wild with speculation. Did she piss off one of her yacht johns..? Steal or consume to many drugs & this payback or a warning..? All hypotheticals and yes it could have been a simple accident however, she does hang or stay with some suspicious types and drama is always around with her.

    • Capepopsie says:

I am with you on the drama.
      Always drama around her.
      It must be exhuasting!

    • JenniferJustice says:

Me too. Remember that Stephen King triology “Cat’s Eye?” I think Lilo signed up with a stop smoking club ran by mobster types and they caught her smoking on the yacht. They told her if she smoked once she signed the contract, she would lose a finger, but she did it anyway. I like my story better.

  6. Tifygodess24 says:

So basically what Im reading is she was drunk, high or both and decided for a moment she was She-ra Princess of power and felt the need to lift up a heavy anchor then ride it down into the water? Because this story is just all kinds of off.

    • SilverUnicorn says:

      I was wondering that too…

    • swak says:

Couldn’t figure out why she was trying to lift the anchor either. Was weird to me also.

    • JenniferJustice says:

O.M.G. I have the most ridiculous image of her trying to sexy ride the anchor down into the water now….like Patrick on Sponge Bob. Please let this be true and please let there be pics.

  7. kay says:

She should try to get her life reattached.
I can’t help but feel for her.
    Sigh.

    • Little Darling says:

A semi funny comment. Actually very funny but also sad because I don’t wish her ill either.

  8. HazelKai says:

Jimmy Fallon almost lost his ring finger due to his wedding ring, which is a common injury. This anchor/weight injury is definitely plausible.

    • Tifygodess24 says:

But also notice the similarity between the two – both are rumored (or mostly confirmed in Lohans case) to be alcoholics.

    • Erinn says:

I mean – losing a finger (or severely damaging it) because of a ring is scarily commonplace in the trades. But LiLo and Jimmy are both supposedly substance abusers, like Tify said – one more confirmed than the other.

Hubbs – when he used to work carpentry (he’s a plumber now) was with a guy who sliced off a chunk of finger. They had to pick it up, ice it and bring it to the hospital with him. Luckily, it was only a small piece, but I’ve heard some horror stories.

I’m relatively clumsy, and work a desk job in IT. But I’ve been starting to look at those silicone wedding bands for the two of us – he takes his ring off and stores it if he’s doing something that he thinks it could get in the way of – plus it’s a material that can be cut, but I have high set rings, and am worried about damaging mine.

      • Alarmjaguar says:

I remember in high school sports you weren’t allowed t wear any jewelry while playing sports b/c things get caught and can go horribly wrong. I was shocked when watching the Olympics to see how many players were wearing earrings and necklaces (I didn’t notice rings). Accident waiting to happen!

      • JenniferJustice says:

when we were teenagers, my friend was working at a deli/pizza joint and she sliced the end of her finger off. She looked and looked for it to have it reattached but she couldn’t find it. They sent someone with a small cooler to the deli to see if they could retrieve it. They found it. Right there on the counter. She looked it a dozen times but thought it was another mushroom. True story.

    • Bridget says:

Do you know how anchors work? They’re usually mechanized. Folks aren’t on a yacht hurling an anchor out and then heaving it back up. Not to mention, how does one get tangled in rope that’s attached to something heavy? An anchor pulls the rope tight.

      • JenniferJustice says:

There isn’t even a rope involved if it’s a yacht anchor. It’s a heavy chain – no rope. I’m going with Lilo trying to sexy ride the anchor down into the water. I love it so much. It must be.

      • Bridget says:

True. It just really bugs me that she’s trying to imply that someone could get caught in a rope attached to a sinking anchor. Because that doesn’t work either! Maybe she was watching too many cartoons?

    • Kori says:

But Fallon’s wasn’t slice. He caught the ring on something as he fell and it ‘decaptated’ (for want of a better word) the joint internally. Because of nerves and blood flow, this injury can often result in the finger (or part of it) being lost. He was lucky that he got to the hospital quickly and there was a qualified surgeon present at the time. It’s a specific, and freaky, injury.

  9. AnotherJen says:

    Is the boat ok?

  10. It'sJustBlanche says:

How does she afford this lifestyle where she’s always on vacation?

    • swak says:

      From JustJared:

Lindsay was in Turkey to settle a business contract with entertainment company B4L, where she signed a reported $2 million deal for the advertisement rights of Lindsay across the country.

She was pictured (on DM) with the head honcho from B4L a couple days ago. Using that money or maybe was this guys boat she was on.

      • EscapedConvent says:

My forehead is in a knot as I try to imagine what anyone would want Lindsay to advertise. Maybe they want to do some posters for boating safety?

      • Madisyn says:

The Turkish ‘businessman’ who owns B4L provides women at parties for rich celebs and businessmen, in other words, he’s a glorified, ‘legal’ PIMP!! If she was paid $800k for the Russian interview and just signed a $2 million dollar deal in Turkey, would she really be hooking still? Ah, no!!

    • lucy2 says:

You know the real answer, right?
It’s sad, but she’s had many opportunities to do real work and leave that life, but she just won’t.

  11. Lolo86lf says:

I am so glad they were able to reattach her finger. That accident no matter how it happened had to hurt a lot. By the way, the second outfit looks very nice and comfortable.

  12. Shutterbug99 says:

    Get well soon, Lilo!

Way more sympathetic towards Lilo than Kim K over here. Ha!

    • Pandy says:

      Me too!!

    • Kitten says:

Reading through the comments, I was really struck by that too.
Never ok to not believe Kim (the shaming on that thread is hilarious) but I guess we all get the green light to doubt Lilo.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if the boat story was made up–I don’t really GAF either way because I feel nothing for Lindsay OR Kim, for that matter.

  13. Zuzus Girl says:

How was the finger tip on the boat when the accident happened in the water? Are we sure that Egor (or whatever the ex’s name was) didn’t try to get his ring back by wacking her finger off?

Oh well. get well soon ya little crack head.

My husband cut off the tip of a finger woodworking. It looked like Bart Simpsons head for a while.

    • tealily says:

She would have told us if that was the deal. This was more likely a drunk accident that we aren’t getting all the details on.

  14. Loo says:

Lohan up to her drunken silliness again. I can’t believe some people believe her domestic violence claims. She’s apart of that 10% that I don’t believe without any proof.

  15. Becki says:

*GAG*! I can’t handle these types of things :/ I feel bad for Lilo, but wonder what the real story is behind this as well. Hope the finger works out!!

  16. the_blonde_one says:

So, in every movie or tv show that involves either some sort of mafia or kidnapping or ‘owe money’ type of scenario you know what they do as a first warning- they CUT OFF A FINGER.

    just saying. no reason 😉

  17. MC2 says:

Story time: I dated a guy when I was a teenager for a couple months and we spent a lot of time together and intimate time too (he was gorgeous). After dating for about three weeks or so he told me that he needed to show me something and boom- he was missing half of two of his fingers! And I had not noticed!! What?! I wasn’t shocked by his fingers but the fact that he hid it so well was unbelievable. I give cosmic kudos & good thoughts to that guy today.

  18. Mandy says:

Silver lining…she will probably get some painkillers at the hospital.

  19. Lauraq says:

I’m a bartender. I’ve been in the industry, cutting fruit daily, for 12 years. About once a year I’ll cut off a finger tip (usually because a lemon seed gets stuck on the knife without my knowledge) (and in case you were wondering, I throw away all the fruit and sanitize everything immediately). Depending on how much she lost, it might have just grown back on its own eventually.

  20. Erica_V says:

I think it was the anchor on a dingy boat – one that you’d take to and from a large yacht to land.

I am FAR more curious about the status of the gigantic emerald that sat on that finger – even after the engagement was off. Was that too found on the deck or did it mysteriously go overboard and LL is magically $30K richer?

  21. Hotpaprika says:

” Lindsay was enjoying Sunday in the ocean off Turkey ”

Dear people from the USA: The Mediterranean sea is NOT an ocean!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. Ankhel says:

I nearly lost two fingers in an accident like this once. The boat was 28 feet and had an electric anchor winch. One morning the anchor wouldn’t come all the way up. I went to check. It had gotten entangled in a child size lump of sand, seaweed and barnacles. This was too heavy for the winch. So, I told my ageing father not to press the winch button again, while I fixed the problem. I got on the platform in the back, looped the rope around my right hand, hauled at the anchor, started beating at the lump with my other hand. Dad pushes the winch button… I try to pull my hand free of the rope, but two fingers are STUCK. The rope runs through a solid metal eyelet on the platform, bit by bit. I scream like a stuck pig, seeing what will happen. My fingers are on the eyelet and getting slightly mangled when Dad takes his finger off the button. One or two more seconds, and my fingers would’ve been crushed, severed or both. This was my last boat trip with the old man, sadly.

Getting the kind of injury Lindsay says she got from an anchor is certainly possible. They look innocuous, but are heavy, often sharp and they move. I don’t really see why she would mess with one on a big yacht, but… Drugs+boredom=foolery?

  23. Denise says:

The fact that this was on her ring finger makes me wonder if that ring was taken by force and that’s what caused the injury. Far more plausible considering her increasingly sketchy lifestyle than the silly story she gave.
