Donald Trump rules that Carrie Prejean can keep her crown (update: video)

Update: Here’s Donald Trump’s press conference. He focuses on all the wrong things and talks more about Carrie’s answer than the fact that she violated her contract. “If her beauty wasn’t so great, nobody really would have cared [about her answer to the gay marriage question.]” Trump didn’t you see the press conference yesterday? It’s not about that anymore.

Yesterday Miss California Pageant co-directors Shanna Moakler and Keith Lewis held a joint press conference outlining the many ways current Miss California, Carrie Prejean, had violated her contract. Prejean didn’t inform directors about semi-nude photos she posed for, and signed a waiver stating she had no such photos. She also became the spokesperson for an anti-gay marriage group, clearly violating the contract she signed with the Pageant that said that all representation duties needed to be approved.

You could tell during the press conference that both Moakler and Lewis were incredibly pissed off at Prejean’s behavior and that they both thought she had violated the contract enough to warrant losing her crown. They even named a new “Beauty of California ambassador,” the pageant runner-up Tami Farrel, ostensibly to show that Farrel was ready and qualified to step into the role of Miss California. The decision wasn’t up to them, though.

All of that wasn’t enough to convince ‘ol Pageant owner Mr. misogynist moneybags Donald Trump. Trump ruled today and Prejean would remain as Miss California, citing her beauty as if that was more important than all those legal papers she signed:

Donald Trump just declared that Carrie Prejean will remain as Miss California USA. He said that she had given an honest answer to a tough question, and that there’s nothing wrong with the pictures of her. “We’re very proud of her,” he said, calling her strong, tough, smart and very beautiful.

Ms. Prejean is now giving a lengthy response. “I would like to thank God for trusting me with this large task and giving me the strength to stand by my beliefs,” she said. She also blasted Perez Hilton for asking her a question that she said was politically charged and hid his own personal agenda.

“I am convinced more than ever of the importance of standing up for your beliefs and convictions,” she declared.

[From Blogs.NyTimes.com]

Of course her answer was her own opinion, and she had every right to give it. Does she now have the right, against the rules of her contract, to become the spokesperson for any group she wants? That’s why Moakler and Lewis were speaking out against her, not because she said she preferred “opposite” marriage. Ultimately their pleas didn’t matter and Trump sided with the beauty queen. Maybe he realized that she was making him even more cash with all her antics.

This is so wrong in so many ways, she violated the pageant rules and in my opinion should not hold the crown.
The Donald is out of his orange covered mind.

  2. wizzle says:

She is playing the religious right like a fiddle. She is a liar. She is a famewhore.
    She is annoying as hell.

  3. Annie says:

    Probably the cash part.

    Lord I cannot stand her.

  4. vicsmith says:

After forgiving Miss U.S.A. for all her mistakes and semi-nude pics of other contestants, his decision makes sense. And I don’t believe for a second this character assassination attempt was not because of her answer on gay marriage. Please.

  5. Bren says:

This is not fair to the girls who played by the rules. What kind of message does this send ? Cheat and you can still win ?

  6. Caitlin says:

It has happened before Bren! remember Tara Conner?

  7. CC says:

Yeah I remember Tara Conner ha ha…lol…..
Sometimes I wonder if these stupid controversies in this stupid pageant is just one whole big publicity stunt put on by Donald Trump to draw up interest in Miss USA pageant. For years it went under the radar. I’ve noticed since he’s taken over that organization, the finalists of the Miss USA are much better looking than they used to be. And he dropped the “talent” portion of the competition. But yeah the whole scenario.. Perez Hilton asking that question, the semi scantily clad photos of her.. It jsut seems like BS to me. Just a big scheme that stirs up controversey and in turn draws up ratings. I wouldn’t put it past “the Donald,” or the rest of those media whores. (Perez Hilton..Shanna Moakler etc..)

  8. CC says:

Oh Sorry I just joined in the convo..I’m not Bren.. 🙂

  9. CC says:

Exactly. He holds a press conference for this… What a joke. And even if it was real, what do people expect from a girl who enters pageants? A forward thinker? The next Gloria Steinem? Most of them are from the SOuth and they take over a state that they don’t even have ties too, and they are in a pageant system for years because their family is into that stuff. It’s not a feminist view point.. so they are not liberal minded. It’s a backwards organization. Who cares what this pageant winner thinks. She has a right to her opinion. Gay people shouldn’t even care what she has to say.

  10. Iggles says:

I’m glad she still has a crown. We need more shizz stirrers. No one would be talking about the marriage issue if she hadn’t answered the way see did. They way I see it, she did EVERYONE a favor — activists for gay marriage have more followers and ‘opposite’ marriage folks DON’T have a martyr…

  11. CC says:

I think people don’t want this airhead getting anymore airtime and are annoyed that the gays care so much what she has to say. .But that’s just me. Maybe there will be some positive out of this. The problem is the religious right/Republicans are too stupid to realize the hypocrisy. They will make this a Freedom of Speech issue and think the gays went after her and dug up past pictures to ruin her. So they will think she’s a martyr.

  12. Tia says:

She is a complete idiot ! Yeah um the wind was blowing.. she is A CONSTANT liar.. shame on her, but then again, that is what the religious right is all about lies, hypocrisy and wierdos ! I use to like Donald Trump but now I find him to be an idiot as well. The pictures are lovely is what he said.. what a pig !! Get a clue you moron !

  13. Giz says:

Well, then they may as well, the the porno beauties enter beauty contest. What’s the difference anymore? At least you’ll know straight up! ‘Time to give Ms. Rhode Island and Vanessa Williams back their titles!

The double standards of the right-wing prevails! Donald Trumped-up probably enjoyed the photos! Face it, he isn’t exactly the epitome of class either!

  14. Bren says:

Vanessa Williams did a smart thing. She kept her mouth shut, did not respond to reporters on this subject and became a class act.

  15. barneslr says:

“The problem is the religious right/Republicans are too stupid to realize the hypocrisy.”

Liberal President Barack Obama has publicy stated the same exact opinion; that is, he is against gay marriage. Where is your outrage over that? You are angry that a 21 year old twit beauty contestant said that, but not that the PRESIDENT said the same thing? And you say the republicans are the hypocrites?

  16. truth-SF says:

Bren, but Vanessa Williams also has something none of this recent pagent girls have, TALENT!!! She can act, sing, and dance (‘dance with me’ anyone)her ass off. And now she is very successful.

  17. Rosanna says:

I’m happy about what DT decided. CP has all the right to her beliefs. And by the way Moakler should remember that no matter how much she disagrees with it, 52% of California voters (that is to say the majority) think along the lines of what CP thinks. That is to say, CP does represent California.

  18. truth-SF says:

But anyone with a half a brain can see that Miss Cali has all this shit thrown at her because of her gay marriage response. Yea, like any states would use this bimbo response and make it law. Perez needs to just shut the hell up and realize not everyone is going to agree with you or me, f-ing idiot.

  19. TaylorB says:

Well Piggly Wiggly managers all across California can breath a collective sigh of relief that should they remodel or something Ms Prejean will still be allowed to cut the ribbon for them.

  20. Valensi says:

They even named a new “Beauty of California ambassador,” the pageant runner-up Tami Farrel, ostensibly to show that Farrel was ready and qualified to step into the role of Miss California.

What exactly are the qualifications of being Miss California? What do you even do once you attain this prestigious role?
    Oh yeah, that’s right. Nothing.

  21. Annie says:

52% of California voters (that is to say the majority) think along the lines of what CP thinks.

Ever heard of Tyranny of the Majority?

For a long time, the majority also believed that miscegeny was “wrong” and “against God”.

  22. Ron says:

The ONLY reason Trump said she could keep her crown is because of all the FREE publicity she has generated for an antiquated pageant NOBODY gave two craps about until 3 weeks ago. In entertainment, and with Ms Trump, it’s ALWAYS about the money not the rules. What are those anyway, she could have had a gang bang video and she would have kept that plastic crown.

  23. Eden says:

    Oh people PLEASE!!!!

First, the only reason she was being attacked was b/c of her HONEST answer regarding “gay marriage”. If Perez had asked that same question to another contestant people would be attacking her if she answered the same way. Also Perez gave her low scores based upon him not liking her answer, what does that say about his ability to judge honestly?

Second, people should be applauding her for answering honestly and not lying in order to appease an openly gay judge so he would vote in her favor! I really could care less about her photos. All of us lie and do things we regret so “Judge not lest ye be judged!”

  24. Tia says:

As a woman from your generation, Miss Prejean, you do not speak for me. Your fundamentalist and hypocritical views do not represent what I stand for.

  25. missy says:

I love his (mis)use of the word “relevant.” Do we really need these pageants in the 21st century? What good are they advancing? How are they making the world better?

  26. xxx says:

She took topless photos with her boobs showing, that breaks the rules. The pageant is so 1950’s anyways.

  27. xxx says:

To comments above, there are pictures of her with full boob exposure, not covered up. She broke the rules, who cares what the bimbo thinks.

  28. queenie says:

the message is loud and clear for all women: get breast implants and take your clothes off–it’s what men want and apparently women are too stupid to do otherwise

everybody gets exactly what they deserve

  29. CC says:

    To barnslr,
I am annoyed with Obama’s stance on Gay marriage. And I realize a lot of people in this country U.S.A> oppose it and it’s not just the Republicans or the religious right. But Democrats and liberals are more open to the idea at least. I think Obama has an open mind. He has a lot on his plate right now and Gay people need to be more patient.

I don’t care what this beauty contestant has to say. I’m more angry or annoyed at the media and gays that cared so much what her opinion was and made a big issue out of it. I personally think Gays and Lesbians need to address their issues in a smarter more tactful way. Not use a stupid beauty pageant as a stepping stone.

If they explain to Obama that their sexuality isn’t a choice and have science to back up that theory. And explain how they feel that they are being discriminted against for who they are, like Blacks etc.. were for the color of their skin. Then maybe, they would get across to the president and change some minds.

  30. John says:

I support Carrie Prejean in her views that marriage is between a man a woman but I also support the feelings of gays that they have a position in society. I am not a supporter of the gay movement but I am not opposed to their lifestyle.

  31. ChristinaT says:

i get the impression that trump apprecaites when women degrade themselves… so why wouldn’t he reward the behavior?

  32. queenie says:

    @Christina T.

EXACTLY!!! These girls are being rewarded to take their clothes off and for being surgically augmented. Is this the message beauty pageants intend to send to women?? Of course Mr. Trump would reward this behavior…I am sure he believes all women to be lesser beings in existence soley for mens use and pleasure. Are we really that far ahead of Islamic countries? Women here are still enslaved and reduced to their sexual functions…period.

  33. becca says:

    @ Christina T,

    Epic Win. 😀

  34. barneslr says:

“But Democrats and liberals are more open to the idea at least. I think Obama has an open mind.”

Wow! Way to dance around your own hypocracy, there! The PRESIDENT–the LIBERAL DEMOCRAT PRESIDENT has stated his feelings clearly. He didn’t say he has an open mind about it. He says he is AGAINST it. Yet you are making excuses for him. You are willing to give arguably the most powerful person on the planet, a man who will be setting policy for the US, a free pass because “he has a lot on his plate.” He has time to make the late night talk show rounds and to go to basketball games, so I guess if he felt it was important to devote more time and thought to the issue, he could squeeze out some time for that, too.

You obviously think Obama is quite stupid. You are stating that the only reason he is against gay marriage is because he doesn’t understand how gay people feel?

You truly have lost your mind. The man stated how he feels about the issue. He didn’t say, “educate me. Tell me more.” He said he is against it. Why can’t you accept that? Is it really so hard for you to accept that he is not perfect and does not always hold the opinions you think he should?

Nice double standard! You’ve shown that you don’t have the courage of your convictions, and you don’t have your own mind when it comes to the issues of the day. You simply have blind loyalty to Obama, and even when he makes a repugnant statement, you are willing to defend him, when you know that if a right winger said the same thing you would work yourself up to righteous indignation.

You’ve just proven what I’ve suspected about many liberals for quite some time. Thanks!

  35. redred1 says:

If Perez Hilton had not been such a bastard in the way he attacked this woman for not agreeing with him, she would have lost her crown. The only reason I’m ok with her keeping it is because he was such an ass. Ellen , or someone else should have called him and told him to shut up. He took gay rights back decades. He was using slurs and personal attacks towards her , and in the process he demeaned many women. I support gay rights, but he annoyed the hell out of me. He should have never been a judge. Had the pictures came out on their own, and Perez not had been involved with this witch hunt, she’ be gone.

  36. Alan says:

Well let’s look at the big picture

First of all, Shanna’s pics are racy too but that’s what modeling has become.
The most sexiest women and men usually have the most fans and work.
    Look around you
    Look at men’s magazines
    Look at the Internet
The online clubs and fan sites

California has beaches where most women go to to show off their hot body to the
    public.
Glamour models make way more money on the avg than skinny fashion models.

The adult industry is full of racy women and commands multi billion dollar
revenue and that means massive demand.
And lastly we all feel more confident when we look sexy to the public to the
point where more women are getting plastic surgery and going to the gym
    Why?

They want to feel good and noticed

Isn’t hollywood full of racy women?
More producers and photogs are looking for that sexiness

And Trump doesn’t seem to mind
    And he’s the boss
    Even if Prejean fibbed
Who that has gone to the top hasn’t fibbed?

    Great points barneslr & Alan.

  38. Hieronymus Grexx says:

Barnesir, Daisy just because you can’t sleep for fear of a virile black man in the White House, doesn’t mean everyone does.

  39. queenie says:

Hey Alan, I have a great idea! Why don’t we just ban all women from working any jobs other than pornography?? Really, that’s where women make the most money, is by selling their bodies to men…so I think it would be a great idea for all women to make money this way. Just think, we could start prostituting our daughters out for all the peds out there and then just let them work up the chain!!

  40. JUSTINE says:

everyone is not seeing the picture i see everyone should see that she spoke her mind and she got in a hole load of trouble for it but it wasnt her fault it was that guy that asked her that question so it wasnt her fault she had to give an answer and she said wat she thought was right dont judge her just because she thinks that love between a woman and a man a lot of ppl think that and all u ppl are gonna blame her and get mad at her for wat she was thought when she was growing up i mean i dont believe that marriage should be between a woman and a man i believe that as long as u really love each other and it doesnt matter if a man and a man get married or a woman and a woman get married. well Carrie thought that it should be between a man and a woman well i dont think she was wrong and i dont think she was right all i think is that everyone is making a big deal over how she answered the question shes just a person she deserves that crown cause she spoke her mind and all the other girls running for miss USA wouldnt have done that and thats y i think Carrie deserves the crown.

  41. Hieronymus Grexx says:

Justine bring that huge run-on sentence into the shop and I can turn it into a paragraph for you.

  42. barneslr says:

“Barnesir, Daisy just because you can’t sleep for fear of a virile black man in the White House, doesn’t mean everyone does.”

Ah, going back to the race argument now, huh? Good, good. That is the last, desperate claim of one who has no valid argument…start implying race is an issue.

For the record, I genuinely do not care what skin color the president has. I care about having a president who has good judgement and makes decisions that are in the best interest of the country. Honestly, I just do not care about the color issue and I believe that is true of most people.

Interestingly, the only ones I see talking about his race are the lefties. The folks on the right talk about the issues, and when they disagree with Obama, the left trots out the old “the right wing is full of racist haters” crap, as though they cannot fathom that we might ACTUALLY disagree with his policies, not his skin color. That’s pretty sad and it’s just plain not true, and repeating the same lie does not make it true; it just means that the left lies a lot-often to themselves.

So, no. You can pretend you know my mind and heart. You can pretend that I dislike Obama simply because of his skin color. But you will still be wrong. If I disagree with Obama, it is because I disagree with his position on an issue, pure and simple.

You and Janeane Garafolo are both wrong.

  43. daisy424 says:

@Dante; careful, your Alinski principles are showing. Peddling your hate ridicule is predictable. I’m not surprised nor am I buying.

Having admitted you’re a male in prior posts, I’d bet money that I could still kick your ass without much effort, Momma’s boy. Move on.

  44. JUSTINE says:

Hieronymus Grexx: the reason y i do run-on sentences is because i type so fast and i for get about my periods or whatever other punctuations i need thats all. im so sorry that the way i type is a big problem to u. its just the way i type
