Katy Perry in Marchesa at Children’s Hospital LA Gala: fug or whimsical?

Here are Katy Perry and Drew Barrymore at a gala for Children’s Hospital LA over the weekend. They took a selfie together on the red carpet, that’s below and it was super cute. Katy wore Marchesa on the red carpet and boy you can really tell. Only Marchesa would pair tulle at the skirt and sleeves with a busy floral sequin pattern on top of that antique looking beige color, as if the entire dress used to be white and just aged into that color. Plus it’s got bell sleeves made of tulle! Only Marchesa would do that. E! talked to Katy on the red carpet and she said a bunch of stuff about having kids so it sounds like she’s ready for them. It was a Children’s Hospital benefit though, it’s not like she’s saying these things out of the blue.

Recalling her passion for bringing music therapy programs to sick children as well as recently helping deliver her sister’s baby, Perry told us, “I see the amazing thing of birth and children and the vulnerability and we just have to take care of them and how, how big of an impression we have. We have such a responsibility!”

Katy continued, “Children to me are becoming a big focus. I don’t even have mine but I see it in my sister’s kids and just how much nurturing and love they need…”

A big focus, eh? Perry’s confession falls right in line with what an insider told E! News about the lovebirds’ increasingly more serious relationship.

Almost a year after Katy and Orlando’s romance first went public at the 2016 Golden Globes, a source revealed to us the duo has discussed marriage and children, adding, “They are in love and happier than ever. [Orlando] would like to get engaged to [Katy] before the year is up.”

Perry also believes a second chance at marriage is in her future since divorcing comedian Russell Brand in 2011. The source dished, “[Marriage and children] is something Katy has always wanted when she met the man she was ready to settle down with.”

[From E! Online]

I wouldn’t be surprised if Katy and Orlando Bloom got engaged, but I don’t know if they’ll take it to the next step. While he seems super into her and like he wants more kids, I can see her backing out before it happens. She’s got to be gun shy after her disastrous marriage to Russell Brand, who wouldn’t be?

Katy wore Marchesa to perform too. This is huge and ridiculous but at least the dress picks a theme and sticks with it.

This is a pregnant singer/actress named Jadyn Douglas in a very busy low cut floral dress. She looks like an 80s couch but it’s still better than Katy’s look.

Teri Hatcher was there too! Her one shoulder red Rani Zakhem dress was striking.

Here’s Katherine McPhee in a terrible pink off the shoulder dress with tiered ruffles. This would look cute on a toddler, that’s about it.

Drew’s dress is ok, it’s just kind of there.

Jamie Lee Curtis in a black power dress!

    Doesn’t Marchesa automatically equal fug?

*puts a riot shield in front of body* I actually really KP’s dress…and the floral dress worn by Jadyn Douglas….

I like it too. It’s an insane dress, no doubt. But she pulls it off. She makes it look regal in a very Katy Perry way. Same with her performance dress. She is Katy Perry after all, her style has always been super zany. It would be a disaster on anyone but her or Rihanna.

      Drew has amazing skin, jeez.

I like it too. The bottom isn’t great, but the rest of it is pretty, much better than usual Marchessa.

      • Tris says:

I adore it! I mean, it’s not subtle, but neither is Katy. Don’t understand what’s not to like. And the earrings go beautifully with it.

    • Adele Dazeem says:

I kinda do too! It’s crazy, but then again Katy has never been a poster child for minimalism and sometimes I miss the days of crazy hair and dresses before everyone got a stylist and started dressing all alike.

I kind of like Katharine McPhee’s dress. The color, pattern, and ruffles aren’t so great. But she’s styled well at least with the beachy hair and minimal jewelry, and it fits her perfectly. Drew’s looks like it’s about to slide right off her body.

    • Chem says:

I liked it too but I feel it would look better on someone with a darker skin tone and hair. Maybe taller too 🙂

  4. Sullivan says:

    Jamie Lee Curtis ftw!

  5. The Original Mia says:

    Well…it is Marchesa.

  6. K37745 says:

I LOVE Drew….but she’s starting to make me rethink holding onto my over-40 long hair.

She’d look stunning with a lob that was dyed a sassier color…..even super blonde. I can see it in my own hair that the ragged, bedroom look doesn’t translate well as you get older. :/

    Bummer.

    • Tris says:

Ouch. I’m also over 40 with long hair. When I saw Drew’s hair here, I thought – Awesome! She looks just like me! Then I saw your comment. Truth hurts. Do we really have to give it up?

      • K37745 says:

She DOES look awesome and WE look awesome…..buuuuut….(over 40 butt), more often than not it just looks so raggedy. I think hers looks good here because of the braid, but free-flowing it’s usually too much. I see it in myself, yet I’ve never wanted to do any sort of ‘mom cut.’ (Which is why I’ll only go so far as lob. I need something to frame this chin). She’s freakin adorable and always will be, so you know she could rock something shorter.

I look like Gigi Hadid in my mind with beachy waves…but next time I’m getting a ‘few’ more inches looped off for good measure! 😉

    • Adele Dazeem says:

Don’t beat yourselves up ladies, I think hair is 100 percent subjective. It has to do with face shape, coloring, weight, where you carry said weight, etc. Drew, to me, has always been at her best w blonder hair and with bobs/lobs/ etc. IMO, hair color dictates so much of appearance even more than length/cut.

Rock what you’ve got and don’t listen to those outdated rules about hair!

I was Getting ready to say Fug and Childish cause Marchesa+ Everything Katy Perry wears… But No, I actually don’t even hate it… Her Fancy Dish washing Sponge dress to perform is a Whole Nother thing

  8. Lightpurple says:

Did Orly wear pants to this event?

  9. Kitten says:

    Ugh. Hideous.

Jamie Lee Curtis is my inspiration. She always looks so amazing and unlike most of Hollywood, she’s aging gracefully.

  10. Jade says:

Drew looks amazing and I love that she isn’t fighting aging.

  11. Ankhel says:

The dress fits Katy like a glove, and compliments her shape IMO. The flower embroidery is pretty in an old fashioned manner, and the colours make her skin glow. I’m not crazy for the tufts of slop-coloured tulle, but I dont hate this.

Jadyn Douglas looks worse. She’s pretty, but floor length Slimer-splattered tulle on top of a little bodycon dress?! Come on.

  12. hey-ya says:

…one recent collection of Marchesa was absolutely gorgeous…Kendal wore one gown & this is probably another..like I say…Ms Chapman didnt get enough praise for some beautiful ideas…

  13. Jane says:

I could care less about the dress. I want her earrings!
