Shanna Moakler resigns as co-director of Miss California USA pageant

Shanna Moakler, the co-director of the Miss California USA pageant, has resigned after being all smiles as Trump announced that he would allow Carrie Prejean to keep her crown. We told you earlier today that Shanna gave sound bytes about the decision that made it seem as if she had forgiven Carrie and was ready to move on. Shanna claimed that it was never about Carrie’s political views or photos themselves, but the fact that she had violated her contract with the pageant.

But it’s clear with the resignation that all of Shanna’s smiles were fake.

Oh the irony. Shanna Moakler just resigned as pageant director for the Miss California USA pageant, after Donald Trump told the world how Shanna and crew have mended fences with “biblically correct” Miss California USA Carrie Prejean. Just another one of those pesky lies.

Here’s the statement Shanna released to Us Magazine:

“Since the press conference yesterday, I had a chance to think about what has taken place, and I feel that at this time it is in my best interest to resign from the Miss California USA organization.

I cannot with a clear conscious move forward supporting and promoting the Miss Universe Organization when I no longer believe in it, or the contracts I signed committing myself as a youth. I want to be a role model for young women with high hopes of pageantry, but now feel it more important to be a role model for my children. I am sorry and hope I have not let any young supporters down but wish them the best of luck in fulfilling their dreams.”

[from TMZ]

I was talking to Celebitchy, and she said that she is not at all surprised that Shanna Moakler resigned. And really, it was only a matter of time. Moakler was very vocal about her disappointment in Prejean’s comments at the pageant, and clearly she has a different vision of what a pageant winner should be. She wrote in her blog that “[Miss USA] is a ambassador, a role model and needs to be able to show diplomacy on all issues. sadly for California THIS is where we lost the crown. Not for her answer or even her beliefs, [but] because she wasn’t able to convey compassion for ALL the people that as MISS USA she would be representing.” I have to say I completely agree.

Love her or hate her, Shanna has guts, and she’s basically rubbing the decision in Trump’s face. Letting Carrie keep her crown was all about publicity, and Shanna is willing to stand up for what she believes beauty pageants should be. You have to at least give her credit for that.

    Her makeup is atrocious.

  2. Alysssssa says:

I agree with Carrie and the way in which she expressed her views. She stayed true to herself. On the other hand she does not appear responsible and does not deserve to keep her crown. Shanna did the right thing by stepping down and I believe Trump will ultimately regret his decision.

  3. anna says:

Forget Perez Hilton, forget Carrie Prejean, forget Trump. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Shanna seems to be the only one showing any integrity in this crazy situation. Wow.

    THe makeup is bad, though.

  4. rbsesq says:

Good for her. I have to say, I’ve been surprisingly impressed with her through this entire debacle. I never really knew much about her, but must admit, from her outward appearance, I assumed her to be another empty-headed famewhore. But she’s actually a very intelligent, articulate woman.

  5. e says:

I am right there with you Anna. She is also extremely articulate which surprised me.

  6. MmMmMm says:

Shanna made a very impressive move to stand by her convictions! I’m not in favor of gay-marriage, but so respect this comment: “I cannot with a clear conscious move forward supporting and promoting the Miss Universe Organization when I no longer believe in it.”

Too bad Carrie, a self appointed spokesperson for the religious right, hasn’t shown a bit of the same authenticity with her lies about scandalous pictures and trying to hide her intolerance behind a warped version of Christianity.

Christianity is supposed to be about loving one another and taking care of each other. I do think all couples deserve the same legal rights and social acceptance, but as long as people like Carrie pick themselves to preach – the chance for ‘life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness’ is going to be hard.

    Thanks Goodness for Shanna!

  7. I think Shanna was given the choice of resigning or being fired. I don’t think she did this on her own. Given that, she made an awesome exit speech.

  8. Tia says:

Well MMMMMM (whatever that name means) I AM FOR gay marriage and so are so many wonderful good hearted people. I am proud of Shanna and think she is awesome and a wonderful example of how young women should be… not hypocritical naked posing idiots.

  9. boo says:

I am really impressed with Shana.

We are fighting a battle for equal civil rights for all and her resignation from a pagent that condones discrimination helps.

  10. nina says:

shanna doesn’t respect people’s right to free speech.
    what’s to respect about her?

seems to me she’s out of a job because she doesn’t have any brains, she’s unkind, she targeted this girl for her opinions, and she blew the situation out of proportion. she’s a nitwit. nobody will hire shanna for anything ever again.

  11. McKenna says:

Wow, I never thought I’d say this, but I completely agree with Shana. She made the right decision.
@ Nina, this isn’t about the right to free speech. It’s about holding yourself out as a moral compas and then a) taking your clothes off numerous times and b) lying about it. I initially thought the press was too hard on Prejean because she just expressed her opinion. But the one thing I cannot stand is hypocrites and liars.

  12. ChristinaT says:

i’ve never considered this woman to be of any upstanding moral character… the way she handled her divorce and the bitch fights she had in public were pretty despicable… so based on her previous track record, i’d guess she’s acting more out of having a hurt ego than actually standing up for what she believes in.

  13. OKHero says:

“shanna doesn’t respect people’s right to free speech.”

No one has the right to say whatever they want (even if they are simply expressing their beliefs) without facing consequences. We are only guaranteed that the government will not make laws limiting our speech. Last time I checked, no one involved in the Miss California pageant was a government official, nor were the comments actual legislation.

You can agree or disagree with what Carrie said, but she has to accept that she voluntarily put herself in the public eye where she knew she would be answering questions.

  14. Hieronymus Grexx says:

3 hours ago she was all kissy-face and conciliatory and now… HA!!!

  15. Ana says:

I’m tired of seeing her. She’s like a prettier version of a woman my husband used to date.

  16. ohcutemissa says:

Can’t believe I’m saying this, but way to go Shanna. I really admire her for this one.

  17. grant says:

at what other pageant has a contestant been subjected to this kind of treatment for her answer to a question? Shanna did not respect this woman’s right to free speech — the right to her own opinion. Instead she made a media event out of the fact that this contestant said something that Shanna didn’t agree with. That is total disrespect for this person’s rights — and it’s in a very public arena. Shanna is a nitwit. She will never get another job again after this — just watch.

  18. Moore says:

I doubt Trump will let her resignation be a big issue to him. He’ll probably make a bigger show of putting someone in her place.
I honestly have no thoughts on Shanna as her behavior aside from all this (at least what is in the media) makes her out to be a ridiculous idiot who sucks in attention wherever she can get it. Wonder how long she’ll be talking about this one.

  19. me says:

what happened to the pictures? i thought this wasn’t about her beliefs but the fact that she went against the contract she signed not to pose in her underwear/naked/etc.

  20. Annie says:

    Grant.

Nothing happened to CP. In fact, she’s relevant now.

And it’s funny to me that she gets to keep her crown when Miss Nevada loss hers for semi nude pictures (and numerous other pageant winners have as well).

It’s not about her stance, it’s about the lying and the massive hypocrisy.

  21. gg says:

Sorry- but Shanna Moakler??? THANK YOU FOR “STEPPING DOWN”, hon! It’s about TIME!

Seriously, look at her photos. The woman is a clown. She has no poise, class, and has no idea how to dress or put on makeup flatteringly. I cannot listen to anything that comes out of that idiot’s mouth, agree or not. I can’t believe anybody would want THIS trash as a role model.

  22. Kimble says:

Who cares what Prejean said about gay marriage? Of course she’s entitled to her view.

Her subsequent contract breaking, lying and hypocrisy is why she should have lost her crown.

The Donald has just proved what an AW’ing slimeball he is (as if we didn’t know) and Shanna appears to be the only one to come out of this with honour.

  23. missy says:

    “a clear conscious” ?

  24. mike says:

    And nothing was lost.

  25. CSpere says:

So sad, too bad. No one will miss you and your over-inflated opinion of yourself. Again, it’s true, only one side believes they have the right to express their opinions…as if any winner of a pageant actually makes a hill of beans difference what they think about anything of importance. Reality check needed.

  26. Trey says:

I dig her makeup- but then again I am a young non-uggy gothy female with no need to turn it down yet…

I found her actions to be appropriate. I also think 08-09 are the years of Female Republicans given that we have McCain, Miss Cali, and Winky Palin. Angie Hartman even tried to get on the bandwagon. Wonder who’ll be next!

  27. Gistine says:

Hey girl, Ziggy Stardust called and he wants his make-up artist back. Jesus.

In other news, integrity is a good thing. Now she will have more time for fighting and f**king Travis Barker.

  28. SixxKitty says:

She reminds me of John Wayne Gacy in that make-up. Why does she maul herself like that, UGH!
I’m glad she resigned, she has higher expectations than the girls are providing, sad really.

  29. I never thought I’d ever have any reason to commend Shanna Moakler, but wow – Well Done!

But you should never let your kids do your makeup. Some color combinations are strictly meant for coloring books.

  30. ferdis says:

My only question: Shanna, what will you do for living now? And WHY WHY WHY you hada that fake smile before? Sounds publicity stunt.

  31. Bob says:

Moakler sees a chance for some publicity and is going for it. Next up she will quickly “write” a book and hit the talk show circuit, or try to get her own reality series.

  32. Annie says:

Because Prejean isn’t also capitalizing on this?

Moakler hasn’t yet (if/when she does, then maybe you have a valid point), but Prejean’s already aligning herself with NOM and speaking out at The Rock, in San Diego.

  33. Moore says:

Bob, she’s already working on the reality series. Yeah, it will suck.

Annie, I think she is, prejean. She’s messing it up for herself too. She gets to keep her crown but her title’s tarnished. I have no problem that she stated her views but its all the lying that should have done her in.

  34. Tess says:

there’s something so Orwellian about this controversy. Why would a gay activist be asking a beauty contestant, of all people, about this issue?

Answer. He was trolling for the response he wanted or would leap on any response not to his liking to make that young woman into a target against whom he and his allies could heap hatred and vitriole.

By the way, her position is the same as Pres. Obama’s position.

Why target a beauty queen but not a political leader?

  35. seriously says:

All this fuss and drama just over 1 dumb question, asked by an internet celebrity goofball.

Which is the real reason gays can’t get married.

Crap like this will be happening, all over the country, in every town, nonstop 24 hours a day.

  36. eternalcanadian says:

Good for Shanna. I couldn’t believe what Trump did. I mean it was bad enough Ms. CA did the homophobia thing, but then to top it off with the nude pictures. Then Ms. NJ had the same thing happen per the pictures. Trump is one whacked out dude.

  37. cowbulls says:

Shanna is trying to save face because my guess is Trump fired her for being an obnoxious loudmouth hypocrite. Her liberal bias is showing as well as her entire body. Shanna poised for Playboy so she should just open her legs for the camera and whoever has the entrance fee and shut up.

  38. Ifticar says:

Shanna was fired and she deserved it.

  39. sarcra says:

@Tia “Well MMMMMM (whatever that name means) I AM FOR gay marriage and so are so many wonderful good hearted people…”

I think you must have stopped reading Mmmm’s comment when you got to the part you disagreed with. He or she pretty much said the exact same things you did about Shanna and Carrie.

  40. sarcra says:

@Tess – Exactly. Why in the world was Perez Hilton even allowed to ask this question as a judge, given the ultimate bias he would have for or against her, depending on her answer? I understand the issue is a hot one in CA, but no matter what she said, Perez Hilton was going to be biased about it because it is something he is very vocal about on his Web site. I don’t see how he could be impartial when it comes to that.

I think she has handled this very poorly, shown herself to be hypocritical as far as her morality claims, but I really don’t think there was any fairness in allowing Perez Hilton to ask that question. I don’t even know why he was allowed to be a judge!

  41. Rebecca says:

I find it hilarious that Shanna all of the sudden has morals… She bared it all in Playboy, did a fully nude spread, temporarily wearing a tshirt for her ex-husband’s clothing company… She has children with 2 men, one of whom she was never married to. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone, Shanna.

  42. OXA says:

Its is abour equal rights for all, prejean is against that, so is Trump asn he fired other Queens for photos and violating pageant rules. Miss USA did heavy drugs and had to go to rehab,
Miss Nevada was fired yet prejean gets to keep her crown. Trump gets to use his moral compass and we know where that is.

  43. barneslr says:

Considering her own checkered past, Moakler has no business sitting in judgement of any other woman. I never understood how she got the position to begin with; she certainly was an exceedingly poor choice. Regardless of her reasons, her leaving is a very good thing.

  44. Rosanna says:

I don’t agree with same-sex marriage. But Shanna Moakler and her integrity was a pleasant surprise. Up to before the making up, I liked how CP stood for her values. Now, I like what Moakler did because she does have the courage of her ideas (which CP didn’t have in the end).

  45. Old Guy says:

Aahhh , Shanna the Queen of character assassination, that role model for wannabe pageant queens now wants to be a role model for her children.

Yes children google mommy on the internet (shanna moakler nude) there are 40,000 sites that have nice pictures of mommy… see you can see were you came from when you were a baby.

Look here are some pictures of mommy in a bar fight with Paris Hilton.

    What a hypocritical scum bag.

  46. boomchakaboom says:

I don’t see where Shanna is being shady or hypocritical at all. So what if she posed for Playboy or has a fiery relationship with her man? That hardly makes her scum. Hell, she comes off as someone who actually has principals and I admire her stance. Posing nude does not mean you are a whore or whatever. Geez. I defended Prejean’s right to speak her mind, since she was asked, whether I agreed with her or not. Shanna has the same right. Ms. Prejean seems to be riding the horse that garnered her national attention to death. The more she talks, the more she exposes her sense of entitlement, which endears her to NOBODY – except FOX, apparently. But Shanna being crucified for disassociating herself from the goings-on is absolutely unfair.

  47. poopoo says:

HELLO ANYONE HOME? Being a good parent is letting your kids know that in America we have a thing called free speech. And we can all have different opinion. I mean you are all kidding right? You do understand that basic premise. She is stepping down because someone didn’t give the right answer for her? Am I missing something. You had better start supporting freedom of speech or something you believe in might just make you out to be a target of “anti Hate crimes” . Oh I forgot your all politically correct shepple

  48. boomchakaboom says:

poopoo: I think she’s stepping down because of the way this mess was resolved. Ms. Prejean posed semi-nude a few years ago in an effort to get employment as a model, but she failed to disclose this information to pageant officials as required, i.e. she lied. Miss Rhode Island did the same thing, but she provided full disclosure to pageant officials prior to the Miss USA pageant, so she didn’t lie. Miss Prejean continued to sidestep questions and outright lie about both the nature of the photos and her participation in the photo session. She pretended to not have known the camera was clicking while she was topless, and that the wind was somehow involved which resulted in a “wardrobe malfunction”, exposing her breasts for the camera. She was basically full of shit and just lied about it. Trump, being a friend to any and all naked or semi-naked photos of women, let it slide and she was allowed to keep her crown. Ms. Moakler quit because it pissed her off. That’s about it.

  49. Old Guy says:

Shanna instigated the vilification of Carrie for one reason only…. her gay activism. She proceeded to turn on her own candidate with absolutely heartless ferocity. Releasing confidential information or what every she had to do. I’ve never seen such an obvious attempt to control some ones opinion. Shanna doesn’t know the first thing about integrity.

I think Trump set the Larry King thing up to give Shanna a chance for the teary sympathetic good bye. Maybe as part of the plea-bargain?? Donald and Larry King have been the best of friends for a long time. Larry was right there the day after Perez Hilton made a major a** of himself but never mention one word about Perez’s vile misogynistic rant. Basically giving Perez a platform to make him look clean. Now we know that Donald likes Perez and says he’ll gladly have him back next year.

Donald is in complete control of this thing. He knew she was rabid and she had to go. I’ve never liked Trump but he Is a master when it comes to assessing people.

  50. Acemeister says:

Nice makeup, skank girl! It was resign or be fired and there are enough fools who are gullible enough to believe you left on your own moral terms… I could give a rats rear about gays personal lives – but marriage has been the foundation of society (including bringing kids into it) for thousands of years. The “right” to marriage is b.s. – as are all these pageants…

  51. Iggles says:

    Everybody wins!

    – Perez gets more notoriety.
    – Carrie Prejean has more fame than the winner
    – Shanna gets to be martyr and clean up her image
    – AND the Donald will get more ratings next year

Why are you guys still in a tizzy? You just got played.

  52. Samantha says:

    Honestly, this woman is DISGUSTING!

This woman stirs up drama every chance she gets! She thinks she has MORALS?! Give me a break!

She critized and publicly embarrased Carrie for her honest opinion. She disclosed confidental information about Miss California, and the pageant officials. Real classy.

Not to mention a full-on nude spread in Playboy. Oh YEAH, I call those morals.

I wonder what she actually teaches her children after all the PHYSICAL fights she’s been in. Drama Queen.

Plus, that picture is horrible. Did she have the clown college apply her make-up?
