Jaden Smith: ‘I’m going to dedicate the rest of my life’ to Doctor Strange

Gender-norm rejecter and former vampire Jaden Smith went to see Doctor Strange on Friday. Considering he once dressed up like Batman for a wedding, I would have thought that Jaden is more of a DC-superhero person, but no. I guess Jaden doesn’t conform to your ideas about superheroes and comic loyalty. So, he went to see Doctor Strange. And his mind was blown. He apparently thought that the Sorcerer Supreme is a real thing that you can be when you grow up, and Jaden is devoting the rest of his life to the cause.

I Love How He Capitalizes Every Word. It Makes Everything Seem Very Important, Like Everything He Says Is A Formal Title.

Anyway, it’s hard to tell if Jaden really just loved the movie and this was his way of giving it a rave review, or if Jaden actually thinks everything in Doctor Strange is real and could really happen. Since Jaden is full of such childlike wonder, I’m hoping that he thought Doctor Strange was a documentary and I hope no one ruins it for him. What made it extra cute was that Marvel retweeted Jaden and then sent Jaden some special tweets, to which he replied “We Made It.”

Very well done. If this was planned out promotion, it was well-executed. If it was unplanned, then the people running Marvel’s Twitter need a raise.

If only he could disappear in a monastery.

  2. Mia4S says:

He’s such a silly little boy. That would be comforting (he’s just a kid)…except for the fact that his silliness gets published on HollywoodReporter. So it’s just annoying.

Loved the movie, it is fun. Cumberbatch is definitely a movie star. Not a life changing revelation though. 😉

    • jinni says:

Marvel movies pretty much sell themselves no matter who is in the role. If after the Dr. Strange his next movie role gets a good box office compared to his movies before Marvel than, yes he could be considered a movie star but until then I think it is too early to say he has what it takes to bring in people on the strength of his name alone. Quite honestly I doubt he will make it, just look at Hiddleston, Hemsworth and Evans attempts at movie success outside of Marvel and that is pretty much what his film career has a good chance of looking like.

      • Timbuktu says:

I think there’s a difference. I’m not a fan of Evans and Hemsworth, admittedly, so I hope people don’t lash out if they disagree, but it seems to me that:
        1. Those other guys you mentioned signed on for Marvel when they were much younger. BC is 40 and he already had a pretty great career. I feel like other guys, including Hiddleston, were fairly unknown when they took on those roles?
        2. Hiddleston’s big chances in Hollywood came AFTER Marvel, and probably at least partially as the result of it. Hiddleston’s 2 lead roles and a hit TV show came after Marvel, whereas for Cumberbatch, they came before.
        3. He is far more talented that Evans and Hemsworth, I think. I wish Richard Curtis would write him a great romantic comedy, I think he could do great in a Hugh Grantish type of role, and that he could do funny, and endearing and vulnerable very well.

      • delorb says:

He managed to take The Imitation game over the 100 million mark, worldwide, so…

      • Mia4S says:

@JINNi, I don’t know from a financial perspective (I think from that perspective the “movie star” is mostly dead), but performance wise? That was 100% a movie star performance. I was very impressed. RDJ does it, Pratt does it, Cumberbatch did it here.

    • Bonzo says:

This is the first Cumby film I’ve enjoyed in recent years. Loved the special effects and glad I stayed for the TWO Easter eggs at the end of the credits.

      • Timbuktu says:

Oh, I walked out before then, what were they?

      • Bonzo says:

Most of our packed cinema left early too. I don’t want to spoil it for others, but you can Google them and find out easily.

Marvel always includes an egg at the very end, and often in the middle of the credits as well.

They set the stage for the Doctor’s next appearance(s).

If only he would dedicate the rest of his life to the practice of proper punctuation.

  4. Sixer says:

I love it that he takes capital case So Seriously And Even Capitalises The Ands Thus Getting It Wronger Than The Wrongiest Thing.

Also, I am so old that I still can’t see I’m without the apostrophe and not think ‘im, like wot a Cockney would say.

He is a twit. But a pretty twit. I even think his sticky-out ears are pretty.

  5. Clare says:

Man, these kids need to get a proper education – I’m all for kids thinking out of the box and being creative. but this kid just sounds clueless and disconnected from reality.

  6. LiterallyaShambles says:

I wish my world could work like Jaden’s world. It must be fun when you can afford to be full of sh!t.
Just Watched Harry Potter, I Am Completely Blown Away, And I Will Devote The Rest of My Life To These Practices. Expecto Patronum
(It takes so much effort to type like that, Jesus. But I guess he doesn’t have anything else to do)

    • Sixer says:

I’m inclined to think that a system so unequal it produces plonkers on this scale is a bad system. But I’m not particularly inclined to blame the individual beneficiary if they are relatively harmless, like this one. Who’s that American rich kid who’s been taken off planes for bad behaviour and has amassed a multiple criminal record but never seems to get jail time? The ones like that? Those ones I do blame.

  7. Margo S. says:

Can’t wait to see Dr strange!

  8. Gugu says:

I love this kid… He’s so cute with his wacky ways… As long as he’s not hurting anyone, I’l continue honking for him… And he’s so pretty to look at

  9. Melody says:

    Daddy’s money better hold out…

  10. lulu says:

this kid is such an arse. I really don’t get the aww isn’t he cute and so individual.

Seriously what is he going to do when he gets older and this shit doesn’t come across as cute (not that it does now).

    Pretentious crap

    • swak says:

He’s 18 now and while stupid stuff comes out of 18 year old mouths, he really needs to think about what he is saying. It really isn’t cute. @grabbyhands (below), agree with Lindsay, he’s already desperate for attention and relevance – it may get worse.

    • delorb says:

Perhaps when he’s an adult he’ll start talking and thinking as an adult? Perhaps that’s why people are a bit more lenient with him? IMO, this is all his on his parents. They were very vocal in how they were raising their children. This is the result. IMO, of course.

      • LAK says:

He is so infantilised that at 18yrs people are still finding his behaviour cute. 18yr olds can go to war. They can vote. They can accomplish amazing things. Imagine that. Yet this 18yr old is given thd treatment of a cute toddler.

      • ria says:

Like LAK said, 18 is old enough. He is not a cute toddler anymore.

  11. grabbyhands says:

Twenty years from now that kid is going to be the head of a cult even freakier than Scientology.

    • Lindsay says:

Or desperate for attention and relevance

    • laulau says:

I’m not joking when I say I became obsessed with physics and philosophy in uni, I sort of started a cult-like environment in my dorm….
It turns out I was mentally ill and just thought I understood black holes in a way that would fix the energy crisis. oops.

  12. Ray says:

Dr. Strange has as its basis real life practices people follow. There’s a mesh between yoga, buddhism, meditation, mantras, and then the increasingly more bizarre things: chakras, the 3rd eye, astral body, auras, psychicness, the paranormal etc etc.

This person is a good example of a paranormal orientated person who apparently learnt alot from yoga masters in India:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Webster_Leadbeater

    • Elaine says:

Yes there is Ray. You know that. I know that. Probably lots of other adults know this too. Jaden, however does not.

This is why education exists. Not so children can learn to sit in a box and recite unimportant facts by rote. But so they can see that they are not alone in their thoughts, dreams, ideas . So that they can have models to follow as they grow. Jaden does not have to start from zero.

There is a reason we do not bring our children to caves, give them animal skins, some twigs and a warning to ‘watch out for woolly mammoths.’ We as a society have grown and built upon what our ancestors have done, and what they have learned. We took their knowledge and built flying cars. Well, not yet. But someday *crosses fingers*

Someone taught Jaden to speak English. And to read (presumably). Why stop his education just as his mind is thirsting for more?

There are people who work, in a very real, concrete way, with light, sound and energy. Whether they be reiki masters or quantum physicists. Jaden doesn’t have to wander around confused, getting spiritual tips from Hollywood blockbusters.

He needs to, as they say on my favorite SNL skit, ‘Learn a book’
      🙂

  13. Miss Jupitero says:

Well hey, famed rootworker and comic book geek Cat Yronwode wrote The Lesser Book of the Vishanti back in the seventies! It’s a trip!

    Get to work Jaden!

  14. Donna says:

I’m going to see the movie with my son tonight, looking forward to it!!

  15. MrsBPitt says:

    WEIRDO!!

  16. Timbuktu says:

No separate post about BC and SNL???

  17. TOPgirl says:

It’s hard to believe that this is Will Smith’s son. Sometimes, it sucks to be famous and have dumb kids.

  18. Emily says:

Well now I’m getting protective of him. He sticks out to me pretty clearly as an undeveloped artist (most artists are, at that age, but he is a performer whether or not you like his work, or want to argue that he’s done much at all). His out-there mentality is part and parcel of many artists’ lives (being curious, being open-minded, seeing what others’ don’t, asserting individuality) and without them, *our* lives would be bland and devoid of the music/film/fashion/fine art/choreography that we love. I really think the Jaden hate is lame.

  19. Elizabeth says:

The movie was alright. It had a few good parts. Thankfully, a friend who wanted to see the movie payed for it. The whole Satanic
illuminati symbolism at the end was pretty disturbing. I wouldn’t sell my soul to the devil, but whoever did should of chosen a better script. However, the movie did well at the box office.

    • CharlotteCharlotte says:

See, I’m more concerned by your comment than Jaden’s. I know way too many adults who believe in gods and devils and souls, and they are allowed to influence the running of countries and decisions that affect us all; Jaden is an indulged rich young man whose thoughts tend to the harmlessly out-there. Give me more Jadens and less Elizabeths.

      • Elizabeth says:

I found out about the Illuminati thing this year. However, only a few of those videos make a good argument. I apologize if I offended a few Cumberbitches along the way.

  20. jerkface says:

The kid is on too much molly. Get him sober and this word salad issue will cease to exist. Jada knows its true. Will knows its true. No amount of scientology or christian business will help these smith kids. Just stop the chemical BS. Get sober, stop hanging out with enabling dips. Little Neon Demons have them whacked out. Take them to Philly, Will!

  21. Hayley says:

I can’t get past the hair. In spite of everything he says, it still seems obvious to me that he’s really trying to be a good muppet. He would fit in quite well on Fraggle Rock.

  22. Achoo says:

Well if he wants to go that route he will have to give up tweeting and public media and be totally self contained , spend years studying and practicing his skills out if the limelight and keeping the secrets, even then he may have no talent for it and have to spend several life times honing himself……good luck diddums.

    • PimmsCupInAPimpCup says:

I think it’s just geek talk. After a movie, my friends and I will explore the world in the film over coffee in a shop. We kinda fall into the reality of the film and note the pros and cons of that reality. We are outrageous in recreating the fantasy.

I honestly think he was saying he really really liked the movie. Maybe he’ll read some books on mysticism in that comic book geek way.
When I was 14, I studied botany because I loved Queen. It did me good.
