Ryan Reynolds on his two daughters: ‘You’ll just do anything they say’

Last year, Ryan Reynolds played a lot of dumb games in the press about his first daughter’s name. Like, Blake Lively and Ryan wanted to make a point of not selling their baby’s photos and not doing a pap stroll with the baby, and that was fine. But Ryan went overboard with the guessing games for the baby name. At the end of the day, he finally confirmed that they named their baby girl James, after his late father. Well, now Ryan is trying to make the second baby’s name into another public guessing game. Oh, and he does confirm that they had a girl, although I pretty much assumed that a month ago.

Ryan Reynolds loves being a father to two daughters. What he doesn’t love, though, is the idea that they will one day enter into the dating world. “I’m doing my part to just wipe men off the face of the planet,” he joked in an interview with eTalk’s Ben Mulroney Wednesday. Humor aside, he added, “It’s the best. It’s the best! It’s the best thing that could ever happen to you.”

Ryan and his wife, Blake Lively, recently welcomed their second daughter, who joins big sister James Reynolds, nearly 2. Having two children to take care hasn’t changed Ryan’s approach to parenting much. “It didn’t change the dynamic. There’s just more. There’s more love. There’s more diapers. There’s more all that stuff, you know,” he said. “It’s really kind of profound. I just love watching my older daughter take care of the newborn. That’s been kind of neat to see.”

The sisters have their father wrapped around their little fingers. “It’s really hard to have boundaries, because you’ll just do anything they say,” Ryan said. “Like, anything they’ll say!”

When Blake was pregnant with James in 2014, Ryan joked he wanted to name his firstborn Excalibur Anaconda Reynolds. “When I ran it up the flagpole with my wife, it was resoundly rejected,” he said. As for Baby No. 2’s name, the actor joked, “I had the same name except all the letters in the name being silent—which, again, was confusing for everyone, especially me.”

Without revealing what her name is, Ryan added, “We settled on the right one.”

[From E! News]

Baby-name-guessing aside, I do think becoming a father has changed Ryan for the better. He seems nicer now. He seems more content. He just seems happier and less tightly wound. I do think he adores his wife and daughters too – he only has brothers, so having two little girls must be so refreshing for him. As for the baby name… what IS the appropriate sister-name which would go with James? Girl Michael. Daniel(le)? Javier. Let’s call her JAVIER!!

PS… Ryan looks really DILFy in this photo, right? It’s the grey in his hair and the glasses, I think. He looks like a really hot LL Bean model.

I do like a salt and pepper man 😀 He’s just like most other fathers in the world who do whatever their daughters ask them to. Mine did, LOL.

    • mkyarwood says:

My husband recently morphed into this phase of dadhood and I could not be happier. He has two daughters, poor, suggestible soul. If all the letters are silent, could be an old gaelic name, or something like ‘Leigh’.

    • Sam says:

He’s a DILF. He’s aging like a bottle of wine. He did nothing for me years ago and now I’m like wow when did he get so hot?!

      • Lama Bean says:

Yeah he’s doing something for me right now. It’s the grey and the glasses.

      • Anners says:

I’m oddly attracted to him now and it makes me uncomfortable – I’ve thought he was a basic douche for so long 🙂

      • Justjj says:

I still think he’s a basic douche and Blake us super basic, like a 20 on the pH scale basic but he’s getting less douchey to me and is admittedly improving slightly in hotness, like if the North Face wearing guy in line at Starbucks is your thing, he’s the sexiest dilf around.

  2. Alix says:

Hey, if they don’t want to send out birth announcements, fine. But what’s the big deal about revealing the child’s name? If you’re talking about her anyway, it’s gonna get pretty old always referring to her as “baby” or “newborn”.

    • KB says:

If they’re so private they need to stop talking about their kids, period. They’re so cloying.

  3. Sayrah says:

Why so coy with the name? It’s annoying.

  4. Suzie says:

He’s aging very well. I watched The Proposal the other day, expecting it to be bad, but I was pleasantly surprised, he’s brilliant at comedies.

    • HappyMom says:

I just read a brief interview where he said he’d originally moved to LA to do stand-up.

    • Ari says:

The proposal is my absolute favorite RR movie and Bullock is wonderful. Its just a great go to movie and its one of the movies that always get me out of a funk

  5. EEV says:

LOL at Girl Michael. I drop Arrested Development references in daily life and am always so sad when no one gets them – so thank you, Kaiser. 🙂

  6. Runcmc says:

Wait a minute, have we ever seen the older one? Name annoyingness aside, good for them for actually committing to their kids’ privacy.

  7. anonymous says:

    He looks old.

    • Nicole says:

I can’t wait until you age! Sorry that was mean, but everyone is so defensive these days. Why throw shade at someone for aging?

      • WTW says:

@Anonymous, Nicole, I’m roughly the same age as Ryan, and I, too, thought he looked old, especially with this young wife. It’s not that he looks bad, just wondering when he got so gray. I’m grateful that my hair isn’t that gray at this age.

      • Lady D says:

        Speaking of defensive, Nicole…

      • Nicole says:

I just think it’s nasty to say someone looks old when he does not dye his hair. People on here have a heyday with what a man looks like, but don’t judge the woman that dyes her hair standing next to him. Like with Cate Blanchett’s husband.

  8. Shambles says:

    John. Marcus. Sean. Alec.

    Those are my guesses.

  9. Cool Character says:

    Michael would be good.
    $
James was bad but at least the second should match

  10. Lucy says:

Baby girl’s name is so obviously Negasonic Teenage (although not yet) Warhead.

  11. Annetommy says:

The headline: it’s meant to be the other way round, Ryan.

  12. Sam says:

Ehh he confirmed they had a baby girl weeks ago when he was on Conan. As for not revealing the name. I don’t care. When they want to reveal it, they’ll reveal it. I don’t see what the big deal is. It’s the same feeling I get with the pictures. If they want to show us their kids pictures they will. They’re oldest daughter is almost 2 years old and I have no idea what she looks like. If you think about it, that’s pretty good considering the fact that both Ryan and Blake had their biggest years in terms of their careers and were traveling quite a bit. No pictures yet though.

  13. ash says:

the first pic looks like the older brother walking his sister or cousin into prom… thats all i got. I like them tho

  14. jerkface says:

I believe he will eventually snap and everyone will find the bodies buried (or preserved rather) in the organic herb garden planted from heirloom seeds and bordered with simple country style fencing made from reclaimed wood thats been blessed by a monk who makes vintage cut blue jeans for blind children in the Swiss Alps.

  15. JA says:

I’m one of 7 girls and 2 boys…my dad was definitely not wrapped around my finger. Maybe it’s different when you have so many though. It’s sweet that he is a doting father to his daughters, it will serve them well. 🙂

  16. Kathleen says:

Something about a cute man in glasses though….just really really does it for me every time. I don’t know what it is. But when I see a handsome man in glasses…I literally go into heat. LOL

I like this Ryan Reynolds. He even sort of makes me like Blake??

  17. burnsie says:

Seems I’m in the minority here, but I think Ryan’s gotten exponentially more annoying since Blake. I liked him back when Just Friends came out, but since then he’s been losing his shine (at least with me) and now I just eyeroll his way

And yeah, hiding the baby’s name yet continually talking about her is just stunt queening

  18. Bread and Circuses says:

I’ve always found Reynolds cute, but not totally hot, you know?

But in glasses? Day-um, yes. Apparently I like my nerdy-boys. 🙂

  19. Rae says:

He’s definitely improved in the Blake years.

God damn, that’s a good looking couple.

  20. Emily says:

I have never, ever found him attractive before but the silver hair is just…mhmm!! He could get it.

  21. Mikeyangel says:

I am a girl. My name is Michael. It blows.

  22. Tough Cookie says:

I’m still going with Antebellum Primitive Gingham Preserve Lively-Reynolds

  23. Amy Tennant says:

I always thought Jeffrey might be cute for a girl, especially if paired with a more feminine middle name. Jeffrey Elizabeth. James and Jeffrey.
