Why didn’t Duchess Kate attend last night’s glittering EACH gala?

159603PCN_Place2BePHT015

The Duchess of Cambridge has the fewest royal patronages of any of the “working royals.” Both Prince Harry and Prince William have more on their patronage lists than Kate, and despite the years-old promise that she would add more patronages year by year, she has not. Kensington Palace’s PR has been saying this year that William and Kate in particular feel like they should be devoting more time to a core group of charities, rather than trying to spread out their time over the largest assortment of charities in the hopes of raising money for the most people in need. And let’s face it, if they are trying to focus on their core patronages, they’re doing a lousy job of it. Last night was the HUGE gala dinner for the East Anglia Children’s Hospices Nook Appeal. Kate is the royal patron of EACH, and she’s done a handful of events for EACH over the years. Considering the gala dinner was held at the Natural History Museum (another one of Kate’s few patronages), you would think that Kate would show up, right? Wrong.

On Wednesday evening, in the Hintze Hall at the Natural History Museum, was the first annual Gala Dinner for the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) Nook Appeal. The Duchess of Cambridge serves as Royal Patron for the charity. The Nook Appeal is an ongoing fundraising campaign and auction to raise £10 million for a new facility and expansion of EACH services. Every cent raised during this event will be donated to EACH’s Nook Appeal campaign.

Sir Martyn Lewis CBE hosted the event where guests were treated to a three-course dinner, a once-in-a-lifetime performance from singer/songwriter, Ed Sheeran, an auction, and other entertainment. During the Ultimate Charity Auction, Ed Sheeran donated the drum kit he used as a teenager. It raised £2,650 for the nook appeal.

Mr Sheeran had this to say about attending the event for EACH: “As an Ambassador of EACH, I am enormously proud and excited to be joining them for their Gala Dinner Event at the Natural History Museum on 30th November. I’m looking forward to performing and being part of what will be a wonderful evening of fundraising for a new hospice in Norfolk.”

The Duchess of Cambridge hosted a major fundraising event earlier this year for EACH. However, she did not attend last night’s event. She did, however, send a personal message to EACH, which the charity posted on Twitter.

Her Royal Highness said: “Thank you all so much for supporting EACH, a wonderful organisation of which I am incredibly proud to be Patron. I am in no doubt the Nook will make a huge difference to thousands of children and families for many years to come. I hope you all have an enjoyable evening and are able to continue helping EACH move ever closer to achieving their vision.”

[From Royal Central]

You can see photos from the gala here at EACH’s Twitter. It really looked like a wonderful, glittering event, and Ed Sheeran did all of the heavy lifting for raising money and glamour. Many of you – many of us? – have been wondering if there’s something going on with Kate recently. Like, she’s always work-shy and she’s always going to choose not to do anything. But this absence feels particularly odd and out of character, even for Kate. Did she have something better to do, like coloring in her adult coloring book? Was she still mad that William went solo to the Tusk Trust Awards the night before, the charity he associates with Jecca Craig? Something fishy might be happening.

    Pregnant is my guess

    • HappyMom says:

Coming on to say the same thing. Of course many of us while pregnant had to suck it up and go to work, or other events where we had commitments. Mind blowing.

    • burnsie says:

My only hesitation there is that for both of the other times, she immediately announced it as soon as she was 20 minutes pregnant. Why wait so long announcing it this time? 🤔

      • Bitchy. says:

She waits because she wants to go on an expensive holiday for new year. And she can’t not do anything for her charities now and claim preggo sickness and then fly off to Mystique despite preggo sickness.
        Sick it is.

    • srybutnotsry says:

I hope not, she’s so miserable since she’s a mother.

    • sherry says:

Bingo! I was going to say the same thing. Doesn’t she have a history of getting really sick in the early stages of pregnancy?

    • Onerous says:

Same. She’s looked extremely fatigued during recent outings. And she’s missed several events, now.

    • Nic919 says:

She attended the memorial for the Duke of Westminster literally days before this. If she could attend that she could attend this gala.

      • Hollz says:

A memorial and a gala are two very different things. Never mind how amazing it is that a person’s health can change in “literally days.”

      • Megan says:

Well you can’t miss a memorial service because it’s not like there will be another next year. I’m guessing she figures she will be a patron of EACH for along time so she doesn’t need to attend the event every year.

      • Nic919 says:

In the past when she has claimed to have HG for her pregnancies, she would be hidden from public for weeks. So that is why being seen days early for a service that would last over an hour is relevant. And HG isn’t something that picks a day here and there. You suffer from it constantly for weeks.

That said, she was never scheduled to attend. Ever. So she did not cancel last minute for health reasons. She simply did not want to go.

      • Poppy says:

Perhaps its another case of her not wanting to be predictable & relied on – just like st. Patrick’s day earlier in the year! Or maybe she had nothing to wear!?

      • Elle R says:

Nic – Exactly. She was never scheduled to attend. The reason they announced her pregnancies so early previously is that she had to cancel events.

      • Bitchy. says:

It is a big event for on of her charities. She is a patron. She should be expected to attend and apparently she doesn’t have anything better to do.

      • Lindsey says:

@Megan – It was a memorial service for their vacay and private jet hook up. It is analogous to a funeral. Unless you a Ross from Friends or a major screw up happens you only tend to get one. It wasn’t like a battle commemoration.

    • what's inside says:

      Ditto.

    • notasugarhere says:

This Gala was months in the making. If she was cancelling last minute due to faking HG, she would have been all over the website and announcement prior to the event.

The fact that their royal patron was never mentioned in the publicity about this event for months leading up to it? That means she never intended to be at the inaugural fund raising gala for this charity.

  2. Squiggisbig says:

don’t forget the weird out of the blue story about how indespinsible Carole Middleton is! It’s all very odd.

I have my fingers crossed for some super trashy, reality tv style grand reveal.

    • Nizzy says:

This. I’m glad someone else is reading between the lines. My theory is that Kate suffers from depression, anxiety, etc. and may be in treatment or headed there soon.

      • Spiderpig says:

I thought it was quite well known she has mental health problems. Long been talked about here in London as an “well everyone knows..” kind of thing.

      • liriel says:

Oh really? Where’s this story coming from? I have no doubt it’s possible. Where did her mental health problem start? Do you think any event triggered it?

  3. Tough Cookie says:

She’s in one of her kitchens making chutney.

    • Megan says:

My thought exactly. Christmas at Sandringham is just a few weeks away. She needs to cook up a big batch of chutney, buy a suitcase full of new clothes, pick out shorts and knee socks for George, and get her hair done. How can she possibly be expected to attend a big party when she is simply swamped?

    • Deedee says:

Busy pulling William’s old clothes out of mothballs for George and Charlotte to wear at Christmas.

  4. Lady D says:

    Rather useless human being.

  5. Bettyrose says:

What’s the recourse? Can the Queen fire her? Can her constituents vote her out? Can she be stripped of her royal titles? Seriously, does she face any punitive action *at all* for not doing her job?

    • graymatters says:

The only way out is to either get rid of William, who may not be doing such a great job, but is likely doing enough to keep his position OR for Will to divorce her. My understanding is that EACH tried to get rid of her as a patron, but couldn’t and so got Ed S as ambassador instead.

      • Lacia Can says:

If you’re right, that would explain her absence – she’s sulking. Why did they want to get rid of her? I’ve never heard of a charity trying to axe a royal before.

      • Llamas says:

Wait, I’ve never heard of this story. They tried to get rid of her? – do explain more.

Also, I’ve been going through an awful bout of depression and anxiety for a couple months now and I’ve become crazy lazy. I can’t be bothered to do anything. I don’t leave my room, i don’t talk to people, i don’t do things i used to enjoy – like art and photography, ive become useless. I’m waiting to see my doc to figure out what’s going on but if she’s going through the same thing then her behavior makes sense because depression renders people “dead.”

If not, well then she’s hopeless. It seems like she never scheduled this so who tf knows.

      • Who ARE These People? says:

Llamas, I hope you do get help soon to feel more alive and energized. While you wait for the doctor’s help, see if you can at least take a good long walk every day, get some air (fresh if possible) and exercise. It’s probably the single best thing you can to do improve your mood, as long as the sense of depression is mild. And try to stay connected to the people in your life. Let them know so they can help you get out more.

      • TuxCat5 says:

Llamas–Hang in there, love. Depression sucks (understatement of the year). I’m sending you hugs and hugs and hugs. I’ve dea.lt with depression for 31 years (since I was 13) and, on top of medication, actually have a medical device implanted in my chest to help treat it (VNS–it works wonderfully).

There are lightbulbs/lamps available that “mimic” daylight (i.e., the light makes up the spectrum of sunlight)…I’d recommend trying one of these. People with seasonal sensitivity (with or without seasonal affective disorder) have reported experiencing some relief. It’s not a solution to the problem, but it might provide a bit of first aid.

        Take care…

      • Cee says:

@Llamas – seeing your doc is the right step to recovery. I begun therapy 3 months ago and even though I still have such a long way to go I am another person. I now take care of my apartment and myself, I even started trying to decorate my place (it took me 12 months after moving in to even try) and I’m slowly going back to my hobbies and interest (i just purchased a canvas and some oils) and going out and interacting with people other than my family.

All the luck to you xx

      • graymatters says:

I probably shouldn’t have mentioned it, because when I googled for the article I thought I remembered from mid-2015 ish I couldn’t find anything. So, from my memory, which may have been a particularly vivid dream for all Mr. Google knows, EACH was frustrated at the lack of patronage from their patron and approached KP about removing Kate and maybe substituting P. Alexandra (I think). They were persuaded to leave the letterhead as it is and advised to seek celebrity ambassadors, instead. I think — again, it could have been a hallucination — that something similar happened with the scouts. Kate couldn’t be bothered to attend some of their big events, so they were advised to find more enthusiastic celebrity ambassadors.

      • LAK says:

Graymatters: You aren’t hallucinating. The article was removed from the internet. There has been some post wedding white washing and many negative articles have disappeared from the internet.

      • Lindsey says:

Lack a Can and Llamas – They wanted to trade her in for a royal that would actually help them out. They justifiably feel the expend more energy on her than she would ever do for them. Preparing for a Royal Visit is labor intensive and disruptive. Being an official patron is not an honorary title. You are supposed to earn it with work, fund raising, and donations (especially for a “lesser” royal with so few patronages. The Queen has hundreds and has earn her indulgence)

Ed S. and his mother, for example, put in A LOT of time and energy and are very active advocates and fund raisers year round. They made thousands of friendship bracelets by hand, sold them and gave 100% the money to EACH. That alone is a large donation of time and resources plus the extra fund raising. The article mentions that he donated his first drum kit, which is of huge sentimental and some monetary value. She so far contributed a baby basket she got for Prince George and didn’t want. It was maybe worth $40 with a teddy bear, blankets, and other generic baby items. It clearly had no sentimental value and she didn’t even buy it. They made Ed an ambassador because they felt naming him patron was a bit of an insult. They are obviously no where near the same by any metric.

@Llamas – Good luck with your doctor and I hope you start feeling better! Depression is the worst. I know you have already received some great (if unsolicited) advice but if I may I’d like to add one more: DBT is life changing. I never got a ton out of CBT/talk therapy, these are classes and they take a different approach. If you can’t afford them or there is a long waiting list there are some great workbooks so you can learn the principles or see a DBT trained therapist. I went in so skeptical, dragged my feet, ect but my only regret was not doing it sooner it is so worth the investment. Can’t say enough good things about it. 🙂 Good luck!

      • Kitty says:

@Lindsey, in my heart I just don’t think WK will be King and Queen in the future. I predict the monarchy will start to crumble once The Queen passes and Charles is not popular enough to keep the monarchy afloat especially if he wants to slim down the monarchy to himself and his sons.

      • notasugarhere says:

graymatters, you know it is bad when the Scouts royal patron won’t even give them a photo to use for the cover of their magazine. They had to go with a random photo taken at an unrelated event.

    • Bitchy. says:

Monarchs are kind of “above the law” in many theories of state as they are sovereigns. So no, Kate can not be made to bear responsibility if she fails to deliver.

(Yep, Princess Anne did follow the court and paid for speeding and she paid when her dog(s?) attacked children. But those are 1. minor incidents and 2. the outcry and negative press would have been huge and 3. the royals don’t follow court rulings in other matters.
      Examples:
See Prince Andrew and his misdemeanors when he was a trade envoy aka diplomat. Any diplomat who behaved the same way would have gotten fired and sued. But in Prince Andrew’s case it was very difficult to just get him fired.
See Royals whose debts aren’t claimed back by banks. Don’t remember if it was Fergie or another one.
See the Queen who apparently had no clues about the biggest financial crisis approaching in recent times. She then visited the Bank of England and asked in a quivering voice why nobody hadn’t noticed it approaching. It would have been her duty to be informed about such approaching dangers and there were enough warnings. And she had “overseen” the political policies which led up to that crisis.
Video on youtube: Queen visits the Bank Of England And asks about Crisis )

So large and by all Royals aren’t accountable.

      • Bettyrose says:

        Bitchy,
Putting aside how insane that is for anyone to be above the law, why aren’t the royals at least subject to their own code of judgement and penalty for not delivering on royal duties?

      • Lindsey says:

They have one but it is an internal thing. She may get a stern talking to from the Queen or have a come-to-Jesus talk with the courtiers but she is an adult they can’t make her do anything or make her care. I am sure that’s one of the reasons she avoids KP. At Amnner she gets to hide away, surrounded by her people, out of the judgemental glare of senior royals and courtiers. The Queen tend to bury her head in the sand and avoid dealing with family issues. Look at the way she handled her son’s request for his daughters to have a full time royal role, she passed it on to her private secretary who passed it on to Charles to deal with. I also think she is scared to push Kate too hard. She doesn’t want another former (grand)daughter-in-law gaining the public’s sympathy by sharing tales of woe and calling both her and The Firm as a whole unsympathetic and unsupportive. William is the heir to the heir, plays the Diana card all the time, and gets away with murder path inside the firm and in the press (although that is ending, he lost his golden boy shine). She follows his lead and also can’t be seen as outworking and outshining him. You can tell how much it bothers him when Harry does it and the difference in how they count William’s engagements vs Harry’s.

      • bettyrose says:

        Lindsey:
That all makes sense, except the fear that Kate would be too popular. She doesn’t seem to have the charisma or the drive, but yes a “princess” will always be the one to capture the imaginations of the people. Prince Harry is delightful, but he’s hardly the living embodiment of a Disney fantasy: starry-eyed girl marries future king. Even here, Kate’s the one we mostly talk about.

      • Bitchy. says:

        @ Bettyrose

Royals are above the law therefore they needn’t fullfill contracts / duties.
“Contracta sunt servanda” contracts have to be fullfilled applies to non-royals apparently.
I am not entirely sure in how far exactly these theories of state apply to the British Monarchy but theoretically that could be the case.

  6. JaneDoesWork says:

Something is definitely up. I hope she and the children are okay. The aggressive roll out of Meghan Markle as Harry’s girlfriend, the Carole stories, now this? Somethings up.

    • Maria says:

I’m guessing pregnant. And if she is, she is probably sick as a dog. I wish they would make the darn announcement. I need some excitement, after the election.

      • Kitty says:

It wouldn’t generate excitement. Its the 3rd child. Not even Charlotte birth generate excitement.

      • Nic919 says:

She attended a memorial service days before this gala. There is no excuse.

      • notasugarhere says:

She was never mentioned as part of the PR leading up to this gala. Ergo, she didn’t cancel last minute; she never intended to be there.

      • spidey says:

It is possible to be fine one day and ill a couple of days later. Just saying.

      • notasugarhere says:

Can’t call in sick to something when she was never scheduled to attend.

  7. Kitty says:

Like I’ve said many times I do not think there will be a monarchy in the future for William and Kate to inherit.

  8. Sixer says:

Even I think something is not right in the state of Anmer and its colouring books.

  9. OhDear says:

I’m starting to wonder if she’s ok.

    • chaine says:

Me too, if she is not pregnant with the morning sickness again, then I have to wonder if there is some kind of serious social anxiety issue, like agoraphobia or panic attacks?

      • Lindsey says:

If she does it is like her HG and the most convenient disease in history. She is able to make truly miraculous recoveries for vacations and Sir Ben. Too bad she isn’t attracted to Ed Sheeran, he is very involved with this.

      • Nic919 says:

Again, she attended a memorial service days before this gala and it was held during the day, when morning sickness is most likely to be occurring.

She just didn’t want to go. Had she been scheduled to attend and had to cancel t would have been mentioned by EACH.

    • Tourmaline says:

Maybe she is pregnant again and sick, could be, but I am never surprised when she doesn’t turn up at stuff because her work ethic is absolute rubbish. And pretty much always has been.

I think when she first got married she would have risen to the occasion of her role more, except of course William is a petulant, peevish dullard who can’t be bothered himself and she aligns herself with him. Then when she had kids, all bets were off, and I think she is really bitter she can’t just faff about her life out of the public eye like a regular Tansy Toff.

      • notasugarhere says:

When they first became engaged, we were told she was going to “hit the ground running”. Within a week of the wedding came the announcement that she wasn’t going to do royal duties, but was going to be a housewife in Wales (complete with hidden cook and housekeeper).

  10. COSquared says:

Kaiser: She also missed SportsAid’s 40th – but didn’t bother to leave a message. What’s even worse is that it was held at the Natural History Museum, another patronage of hers.

    • Bitchy. says:

      Indeed.
She really could have done some video message or at least a letter red out by some other royal or such. I picture one of the York princesses standing in front of the audience at one of these events and with a big and glamorous smile to the audience: “Kaiiite is soooooo sorry she couldn’t make it here … ”

Both Beatrice and Eugenie could easily knock back Kate by doing this. 😉 Wait for the battles among the royals.

      • duchesschicana says:

@Bitchy Great comment. I could see that. I like the York Princesses myself.

      • Lady D says:

Could you imagine if the York girls started volunteering to fill in for Kate when she cancels? It would take less than 3 months for an absolute uproar to start. That would be such a great laugh. Is there anyone with authority who can tell Bea and Eugenie to stop? On the upside, William would have to talk to daddy whether he wants to or not. Can you actually imagine the conversation with that petulant, sulky little boy who happens to be next in line?

  11. Green Is Good says:

    Lazy, Waity Katey. Done.

  12. Jade says:

GASP. This is so out of line. The colouring line.

    I’ll show myself out.

  13. graymatters says:

I doubt anything is wrong, good as that would be for the gossip. I suspect that Kate figured that since Ed was willing to do the work, why should she bother? She probably justified it by saying that she would take the attention away from him and then make EACH feel that they slighted him. OR that she’s just following Will’s lead — he skips BAFTA events, she skips this. It must be the truly posh and royal thing to do if William does it.

  14. Dwayne says:

Kate and Carole chased William for ten years and now she can’t even show up for 1-2 hours. She’s lazy.

    • Kitty says:

I think it was not her destiny to be a royal at all and thats why its not fulfilling at all to her. I wouldn’t be shocked in the future Harry becomes King. I think WK will get worse and worse. What;s bad is the fact Charles wants to scale down the monarchy to just six people which includes himself and Camilla, WK and Harry and his future wife. What if as Prince and Princess of Wales don’t do as much work and are still lazy? It will be the end of the monarchy(but I think the monarchy will start to crumble once The Queen passes).

      • Maria says:

It certainly happened before that the second son becomes king. King Harry and Queen Meghan would be popular, I think. Go Harry!

      • Nic919 says:

I suspect William divorces her because I don’t think he is prepared to give up the perks of being a Royal. He won’t do it now, because she turns a blind eye to him not being a good husband and not around much for the kids, but the public is likely to target their anger of the duo’s laziness on Kate and he will have to ditch her to keep his position.

But I don’t see anything happening until the Queen passes and they really do have to step up.

      • Kitty says:

@Nic, I still think if it’s possible that all 16 commonwealth countries including the U.K. decide they want Harry as King and they make a switch where Harry and his heirs are first in line while William and his heirs are behind them.

      • LAK says:

Kitty: that’s not how it works. We do not reshuffle the line of succession.

If a person is out, they are out. End of.

      • Bitchy. says:

        @ LAK

        Pluralis majestatis? 😉

Yep, the line of succession can get changed. Has happened a few times, actually.
For example Edward VIII (husband of Wallis Simpson) got kicked out of the line of succession through political pressure.

      • LAK says:

        Bitchy: HA! 😊

Looking back on history, the line of succession has been treated as a suggestion rather than iron-clad, but it’s never been reshuffled such that the removed person goes to the back of the queue per Kitty’s suggestion.

      • Kitty says:

@LAK just because it has never happened does not mean it wouldn’t ever happened. Anything is possible.

    • Ashamed 2 b a Fl girl says:

Poor dear is exhausted from the chase.

  15. marjiscott says:

National Enquirer is reporting that she has miscarried twins!

    • justsaying says:

      NE is a joke.

    • Nic919 says:

And yet she could attend a memorial service days before for a man who provided them with free jets and vacations.

      She is just lazy.

      • LO says:

The NE most likely just made that up because they are a joke, but in the off chance they guessed right and she truly miscarried I could absolutely understand why she would go to a funeral/memorial for a close family friend and not go to work. I miscarried before. It is truly, truly awful. It affected me pyschologically much more than it did physically. I had time off from work to heal both physically and psychologically, but that time off was much more for my pyschological well being to mourn my baby. During this time if a close family friend had died I would have gone to pay my respect and say goodbye.

      • graymatters says:

LO, I’m sorry to hear of your loss.

      • Tris says:

God, I hope not. That would be awful, and not at all funny. If she is sad or sick, I can see why she would go to a memorial but not a party. I don’t hate her as much as most of the posters here.

      • Nic919 says:

It wasn’t a party but a gala to raise money for sick kids. Kids that she has not bothered to see in ages.

Many women experience miscarriages and still manage to fulfill their responsibilities. Dealing with hardship is part of being an adult and again, she never planned on going in the first place to this gala. It was not a cancellation.

  16. CrystalBall says:

I recall she likes to take the first and last month of each year off – a little reward for herself for having to put up with so much. (roll your eyes ….. NOW!)

  17. Zardi123 says:

She is a useless mannequin who has no work ethic and will never have ..as she has a luxurious lifestyle has title she has chased after has money at her disposal. .. she has got what she wants and doesnt give a jot what public think as she thinks no one can touch her.. we need a vote to get them out of monarchy… as its a huge joke now ..

  18. prissa says:

She makes the most hilarious faces!!
    What’s up with that? LOL

    • jmo says:

She doesn’t know how to behave in public, she’s no royal.

    • Lacia Can says:

Too much Botox? Someone here posted a link to Kate trying mightily to raise her eyebrows and only managing to get a slight wiggle out of one. It was funny, I have to admit. I don’t normally laugh at someone’s appearance but I think plastic surgery/Botox addicts are fair game. Now I can’t help but notice her funny expressions!

    • Tough Cookie says:

For me it’s all about the awkward hand gestures, the better to show off Big Blue.

      • Chrissy says:

Yes, she does this claw thing with her hands that looks so strange. But you’re right, the Ring of Doom is always on display. Pathetic.

      • Tough Cookie says:

The Claw!! Perfect description. I wonder if she wears the Ring of Doom while she is coloring in her “Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge Royal Fashions Coloring Book ?” Duh, dumb question. Of course she does!! And yes, there really is such a coloring book on Amazon. I can just see her making several hundred copies of each page and coloring them over and over and over…

      • Chrissy says:

I’ll have to go look on Amazon now, Tough. I can’t believe someone thought it important to put out such a book. Wow. Also, I wonder if she ever takes off that glorified dinner ring. I suppose it’s her trophy for “winning” the heir unfortunately it’s also a constant reminder that she’s nothing like it’s previous owner Diana in terms of charisma, charm, self-awareness or work ethic.

  19. Maia says:

Kate also missed the 40th anniversary dinner for Sportsaid, of which she is a patron. I think that she feels that she has hit her target for the year and needs to do nothing else for the rest of the year. I doubt that we will see her till February or March again.

  20. Meow says:

Either puking because of yet another kid or she’s being typical Lazy Katie. National embarrassment.

  21. Cerys says:

To answer the question in the headline, she is bone lazy. I’m sure if Ben Ainslie was going to be there she would have dragged herself along, HG or otherwise.

  22. Cat'sMeow says:

Do you think she has severe anxiety and has difficulty coping?

    • Lacia Can says:

I think it’s possible that she didn’t know what she was getting into when she got married. Or she thought the perks would outweigh the drawbacks but has discovered that they don’t. Personally, I think her life is hollow. The key here is she absolutely has the ability to live a fulfilling life if she’d just get off her butt. But I might be being generous; maybe she’s just a hollow person.

    • Mumzy says:

That is my guess…depression and/or anxiety.

    • Kori says:

I use adult coloring books as part of treatment for anxiety and depression. That jumped out at me when that story broke.

  23. Dlo says:

To my British cbers, does K not know how the public views her? Honest question. Like the Kklan will read so much negative on a topic and rush to alter the public’s perception. Thank you in advance for replies 😃

  24. Kitty says:

Off topic but does anyone know how rich The Middleton really are? Their finances? I’ve read that they would get lots of freebies from people and rich friends.

  25. Who ARE These People? says:

To the writer of her “personal” note: “… continue helping EACH move ever closer to achieving their vision.”

ITS vision. ITS. EACH is a singular noun, one organization.

This kind of thing bugs me so much.

Though perhaps it is a sign that she did write the note herself, after all.

    • Chrissy says:

LOL! Who, I’m so glad that I’m not the only spelling and grammar fanatic out there. My family members roll their eyes at me all the time when I correct their spelling or grammars. I can’t seem to help it.

      • Sara says:

No, the convention in British English is different. When referring to a British company, for example, the company is referred to by implied plural. For example, “Topshop offer (not offers) a line of skirts that will make you drop your knickers.” Americans find this collective notion confusing, but it is correct British usage.

  26. Adele Dazeem says:

In her worst of times, Diana pulled herself together, threw out a smile and did her work. Diana, despite her many challenges, had a game face. Kate has none. Nada. Zip.

Makes me wonder what the Andrew Morton treatment of this will be in ten years.

    • Sharon Lea says:

I would LOVE a book by Andrew Morton on this topic. He would still have contacts inside, to see how the courtiers and family may be viewing this whole thing. But primarily, he could get some good quotes on how Diana had hoped William would take on this role with his wife.

    • Bitchy. says:

Kate does have a game face. Otherwise she couldn’t do a death stare on girls who approached Prince William before marriage. Otherwise she couldn’t have survived all those nasty snarky remarks by Aristos and the Royal family and the journalists. Prince Harry allegedly called her the limpet. Princess Anne allegedly said “rags to riches” during the wedding. Journalists: Waity Katie, lazy, Dolittle, still calling her “Kate Middleton”, the editor of Vogue very nearly complaining about the fotoshoot with Kate because it was so bad and boring. The editor of Vogue just didn’t dare to go full throttle and explain Kate’s lack of style and lack of personality and such.

  27. Barbara says:

Radar has item that says she mis-carried twin girls, have no idea if true or not.

  28. Jolanda says:

If she has HG again I underst why she could not attend. HG occors after two weeks. Last time I had to be hospitalized was at 36 weeks. It is not morning sickness, no. You vomit all day, every day for months.

For those of you who have not experienced this: you can’t understand the influence this has on your life. When you have HG you can’t even stand the smell of your own children. It’s horrible.

    • notasugarhere says:

She had no problem driving herself past two hospitals to end up at the one where Tanna was waiting to take her picture. She had no problem flying to Mustique or Switzerland to have fun. She had a magical version of HG that only appeared whenever the word “work” was said.

This was not an HG sufferer, merely someone who took advantage of the idea and ran with it.

    • Nic919 says:

Which is why she couldn’t have HG and yet attend the memorial service two days before this gala.

  29. Lorelai says:

Something is definitely going on with her and I really hope we find out what it is.

That said, this gala was announced months and months ago and her name wasn’t listed even then, only Ed’s was, so I don’t think she was suddenly prevented from going by pregnancy (unless she was planning to *get* pregnant so didn’t schedule any events during this time in case she had HG again…).

The fact that this was EACH’s first-ever gala makes it even worse, somehow, that she couldn’t be bothered to show up. Just put on a dress and go for an hour or two, you know? Really not that hard. SMH

    • Sharon Lea says:

Yes, couldn’t she have shown up for an hour, during the auction phase? Then say she ‘had to get home to tuck her kids in’?

    • Lindsey says:

I wonder if she resents the fact he got a better title (because he does WAY more work) and it was made public that they wanted to “fire” her as patron. It is pretty bad if you are a celebrity royal and the charity still rather go their own way and risk not getting a better royal patron than deal with you. That means not only are you not an asset, you are not even neutral, you are a negative despite how easily you could help with fundraising and exposure. You would have thought that would wake her up to her prodigious level of uselessness.

  30. NOLA says:

I must be sick because I am starting to feel sorry for Kate. It must be incredibly isolating. By all accounts, she pretty much has no friends. She doesn’t seem very fulfilled. I know she chose all of this. But still, I feel like she grabbed the brass ring and now it’s not what she imagined. She seems stuck and alone.

    • LAK says:

It doesn’t have to be this way, but she chooses to live her life like this.

      • Kitty says:

Exactly @LAK. Nola Diana had it way worse than Kate yet she managed to have a fulfilling life through her charities and being a great humanitarian..

    • Sage says:

I will never feel sorry for her because she is exactly where she wants to be.

  31. duchesschicana says:

I hope she was really sick or something instead of not wanting to go or is on vacation. she could have sent a video message to Each and Sportsaid of her speech that would have been cool.It would have showed some effort and a video message is a bit more personal I think. This is why I don’t buy into her charity work. I know she may have impressed people recently, but they always do something to show their true colors so to speak.

  32. Kitty says:

Off topic but I hope once Harry gets married and has children he moves into the second biggest apartment at Kensington Palace. I mean WK aren’t even in London most of the time so its annoying they get the largest Apt at Kensington or was William afraid someone else would want it?

  33. IMO says:

I personally think that Kate wishes she had married someone sporty like Ben Ainslie. As a member of the royal family she can’t do what she wants and I think that bothers her.

  34. suze says:

    Poor sausage. She is fatigued.

  35. Ravine says:

William didn’t exactly go solo to the Tusk Trust awards…

    …Carole and Michael were there.

Meanwhile, Kate sat around at home.

I still can’t get over such a conspicuous absence. And now this EACH thing… it’s all so baffling.

  36. GenevieveNatalia says:

Nervous anxiety brought on by enormous public criticism brought on by refusing to do any work while sucking up tax payer’s money for years and years….

  37. Velvet Elvis says:

The National Enquirer is saying that she has a miscarriage.

  38. justapom says:

Her spin team should be shot. Her mother should leave the stage. Her husband should support and advise her. She needs a friend who is intelligent and not festered with royal ties. She need a kick up the backside verbally from a friend and she needs to read the papers and learn from the increasing critiscms. If she is pregnant that fact should have been announced so we could understand and sympathize. Cheers

  39. Zardi123 says:

She has probably gone o a secret skiing holiday ever so secret
as she is always wanting to be childishly secret……..
think she is bone idle spoilt beyond all normality….

  40. Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

She was never expected to attend but she was likely asked and said No. I don’t think she’s pregnant again but its something else. And given all the pro Carole stories that been about – i think its to do with the naked photo case with French paps thats coming up. She’s def hiding from something and its not social anxiety as she is attending some events.

There is def something wrong in the marriage – esp as the Mids have tightened their grip on Willy when Carole and Mike accompanied him to the Tusk Trust event. Thou this isn’t the first time that one the of the family has gone to an event with him, Pips went to a friends wedding as his plus 1.

    There is a scandal brewing.

    • Indiana Joanna says:

Digital Unicorn, I think you are right. The cheesy People article comes off as desperate. The article put her front and center at the expense of W, KM and Charles. And Charles is well known to deeply resent being upstaged. Carole is using the press in a similar way that Diana used to do. However, Carole doesn’t have the public goodwill Diana had. Carole is in defensive mode and feels threatened by something.

Someone on this blog mentioned the video of Prince Edward appearing to mock KM during an official ceremony. For me, that video definitively showed the royal family’s deep dislike of KM given that Edward, a minor figure, would feel free to be disrespectful towards her in a public setting.

Something is indeed rotten. It seems that KM is not only resented by much of the public but also by her inlaws. And Carole is setting herself up for a fight for W as he is her prize after years of hard work and scheming.

    • Bitchy. says:

      Sex on an open balcony?
How can WK be so stupid?
Btw. was that holiday villa where Kate went topless a property of the Royal Family? Or were they invited by somebody who made sure the paps could get “good shots”? In other words: were they set-up and caught? And why didn’t William think of such a possibility? He has been a Royal for three decades and he must now the possibilities of getting caught in such situations.

      • notasugarhere says:

The property in France is owned by Viscount Linley, Princess Margaret’s son. He and his family live there, but they used to run it as high-end vacation spot. Anyone could pay to vacation there. That might blur the legal lines, because it is legal to photograph someone in public areas of hotels in France.

His wife closed her lavender products business in 2014, things made from lavender grown on the estate. That may have been one of the ways they were trying to make the estate profitable, along with renting out a section of the house to tourists. Now when you visit the website, there is nothing there but a holding page.

    • Nic919 says:

I find it very interesting that Mom and Dad Mids attended Tusk when Kate doesn’t show up. Add that to the Carole articles in People and it looks like the Mids are trying to cover for something going on behind the scenes.

  41. Kitty says:

Does anyone know how much it cost the taxpayers for the RPO to protect the Cambridge’s annually?

  42. Kate says:

Can we dispense with the notion that she ever suffered from HG. The royals PR (NOT her doctors) floated it for a day during her first pregnancy then immediately backed off and never mentioned it again after the media researched and discovered it can be fatal, can require an abortion to save the mother etc. They clearly thought it was just a sympathy inducing scientific way to make normal morning sickness sound like the kind of thing you need lots of pampering and vacations to get through.

She had regular morning sickness early on, got the over-cautious ‘royal treatment’ because she was carrying the heir, and was back to her normal routine of stomping around the high street and playing tennis within days. Apart from taking off work, there were zero signs she even had bad morning sickness, let alone HG.

    • Kitty says:

She is not meant to be a royal.

      • Bitchy says:

        @ Kitty

She probably isn’t. But I do blame her mother, too.
Many little girls dream of a knight in shining armour, their prince. Nothing wrong with that when you are in your pre-teens or very early teens. It is kind of wanting somebody “special” albeit in somewhat simplistic ideas.
I think with most girls these dreams stop when they start having a crush on a real boy or when they start dating a real boy/man. But with Kate it didn’t stop. And Carole supported that dream by sending her to the “right schools” and to the “right university” and she even tried to get Kate the same gap year experience that William did. Except that William seemed to have changed his gap year project in the last minute and therefore Kate missed out on him.
I think Carole had a huge part in Kate’s development deficits: no interests, no healthy friendships, no passion for anything, no cool.

When I look at Kate and Carole I see two women who don’t know what to do now that they got the prince and the ring. It is telling that you never see Kate with girlfriends or friends.

    • Ravine says:

“Can we dispense with the notion that she ever suffered from HG. The royals PR (NOT her doctors) floated it for a day (…)”

Well, to be fair, why WOULD her doctors say anything? Patient-doctor confidentiality still applies if you’re royal — perhaps *especially* if you’re royal–, and anyway, it isn’t a doctor’s job to act as a celebrity’s health spokesperson. The doctors’ silence is normal and doesn’t point to a conspiracy.

  43. Vinot says:

Sticking to my theory that she is not well mentally or physically and the RF is willing to deal with her absences as opposed to whatever she may be like if they force her to show.
