Can we all agree that Pippa Middleton doesn’t want to be private? Immediately following William and Kate’s 2011 wedding, Pippa soaked in the attention and tried to launch a career for herself as a writer of party-planning books and socialite columns. It did not work out, but she made a lot of money for her ill-conceived scheme. Reportedly, William and Kate even had to lecture Pippa about toning it down, and the press turned on her over the years too, calling her “pushy” and “useless” and suggesting that she has a famous-for-no-reason Kardashian vibe. Still, when Pippa finally got engaged to Terribly Rich™ James Matthews, the British press was really nice to her, and she once again strutted around for pap strolls to show off her ring. She wants to be a celebrity, that’s my point. But like all celebrities, Pippa is trying to play it like she doesn’t really want the attention. Suuuure.
Her wedding plans are well underway, and Pippa Middleton is eagerly looking ahead to beginning her life with fiancé James Matthews. As PEOPLE previously reported, the big day is set for May 2017. The venue for the May 20 ceremony will be the church of St. Mark’s in Englefield, Berkshire, near the Middleton family’s home in Bucklebury. It is likely that the home will also be the setting for the reception.
The couple hopes to have a private wedding, and they are not planning to release many details. Middleton, 33, and Matthews, 41, have a “deep desire” to disappear from the spotlight in the longer term, a source tells PEOPLE.
Another source says they are looking forward to settling down and “having children and leading a quiet life.”

I do think that Terribly Rich James probably does want some privacy and he wants everything to look classy and not Middleton Gauche, but what does he expect? He’s marrying Pippa Middleton and the wedding reception will be a showcase for Carole Middleton’s unquenchable thirst for social climbing. All of this “privacy” talk is just a way to ensure that Terrible Rich doesn’t get cold feet. “Sure, I’ll be really private after the wedding, I promise!” As for having babies… I do think Pippa will get pregnant right away. Then she’ll make the announcement (with a photoshoot!) to Hello.

I’m with you here IMO, Pippa’s been my preferred Middleton sister for some time now. I know more about her charities than I do Kate’s, Pippa actually says things about her charities and participates.
Exactly, I also know more about Pippa/Pippa’s charities than about Kate/Kate’s charities.
And Pippa’s done some incredible feats for her charities too, like cycling 3,000 miles for the British Heart Foundation. Meanwhile Kate turned up for the first time in two years at a Scout meeting five minutes away from her house, and only managed to stay for an hour.

When Terribly Rich James Mathews was introduced to the public as Pippa’s latest squeeze, every single article repeatedly described him as ‘terribly rich’. Sometimes several times in the same paragraph. The writers are continuing with that pointer.
Ps: those same articles also listed his visible assets eg his £17M townhouse in an expensive neighbourhood, his private plane, his family 5star hotel on St Barths. It felt like the only thing to recommend him was his wealth.
LAK, in your opinion, what is the chance that Pippa and Meghan become fast friends, being active outgoing sorts? Would Carole allow it? i.e., NO, because together they would outshine Kate even more easily? YES, because it’s PR, anyway she can get it, and keeps the pap eye off Kate’s life of ease? It’s clear the photos above were taken inside the walled mini-courtyard of their home. Only the front door and top of the stairs are visible from the street outside. Everything else is not.
I notice that she not often accompanied by her fiancé. Is it because he actually has a job? My impression is that he is uncomfortable with the press attention. Let us hope he doesn’t get cold feet. He did propose rather quickly. I prefer Pippa over Waity because at least she tries. Also, she must be spending a lot of time training for these marathon events she does, like climbing the Matterhorn. And she is the prettier of the two sisters and a little bit curvier. She will always be Waity’s sister so she will always be in the limelight, whether she likes it or not.

And I don’t know about you, but pretty much every woman I know wears her engagement ring (along with her wedding band) ALL THE TIME. Should women who get a big rock not wear it out? As far as Carole is concerned, I get that Carole is a social climber. I’m not British, so maybe I just don’t get the class/aristo thing. Yes, I think the signet ring and the coat of arms that was given to Kate when she was married is tacky as hell. But is it so bad to want to rise up and have a better life than the one you grew up in? Yes, I know “we don’t see other in-laws”. But maybe that’s part of the reason that all but Sophie’s marriage have blown up? Also, the other families of HM’s kids, and their kids, the cousins, aren’t the heirs. There really wouldn’t be so much desire to know about them.

All of what you are saying makes perfect sense if you are dealing with people that are not Middletons.
There was no reason to announce her engagement the way she did – with a parade in the DM. If she wanted to be discreet and announce her engagement, a notice in the times would have done the trick. Instead we had a celeb style announcement and pap stroll parade that lasted several days.
We know it’s a parade because the 1st picture above, and subsequent pictures in similar circumstances are taken from inside the private courtyard of their home. The wall is high enough not to be visible from the street.

As for the social climbing, it’s completely declasse. Please note that class in the UK has nothing to do with money. It’s a system of looking down your nose at people purely because you think they are your social inferiors no matter how much money they gave. Uncle Gary, Carole’s brother is said to be worth in the region of £200M through hard work, and he remains proudly himself whilst enjoying his wealth. And he side eyes Carole’s social climbing.
Carole’s social climbing included making sure her kids ONLY befriended trophy posh people. Those are the values we mock NOT the working hard to better yourself.

Examples:
If the rich guy who you want to marry wants you to do marathons and other terribly exhausting sports then you must do it and you must pretend to like it.
If the rich guy who you want to marry wants you to not have any friends and play workshy wife at home then you must do it and pretend it is what you want. (Same for flashing crotch and bum.)
If the rich guy who you want to marry wants you to wear an old-fashioned engagement ring then you really must pretend that you love him and the ring.

You know she was into the endurance sports before Matthews came around, right?
she’s known JMatthews a loong time. She started doing these crazy endurance marathons around the time Nico skeddaled to the swiss alps.
If you look closely at the pics of Pippa competing, JMatthews is in the background of some of them. So, JMO, but its possible that running, swimming, hiking and biking gained her the attention of ‘the man she wanted to marry’.
Or perhaps she just likes doing them?
Pippa’s progressed in these for a long time – from at least 2011/2012, going through more than one boyfriend prior to Matthews. In fact, one could ask whether or not James got into these to impress Pippa, especially since as you’ve noticed he’s been a part of some of the team competitions she’s done (though it’s also pretty clear that those two were together for a couple of years and she didn’t publicly announce her breakup with Niko).
As an endurance athlete myself, I can tell you that the events that Pippa does require a training commitment that far surpasses ‘wanting to catch a man’s eye’. She’s chosen stuff that is really no joke. A marathon at altitude and heat in Kenya? That god awful swim-run in Norway? A 7 hour cross country ski? This isn’t Mario Lopez running a half of a half marathon.
Why can’t it be both?
She amped up the frequency of her challenges from 2014 onwards. More than she had done previously.
To secure a wealthy future, all she had to do was what she had previously done -only more of it. (A LOT more of it. 3 or 4 endurance challenges a year more-of-it) So why not do it?
IMO, It remains a possibility.

And as far as the ramp up in events, strangely enough that’s pretty normal especially if she and Matthews train together (and that doesn’t have to mean literally at the same time together every day). It’s far easier to go from 2 in a year to 6 in a year than it is to go from 0 to 2, for perspective. At least from my perspective (decently fast marathoner, mediocre triathlete) this is just a normal progression when you’re around other folks who share this interest – and don’t forget that Boomf Middleton is also participating with them too.
She and her brother have been doing them for charity for years, as others have said she only started doing them more often when Nico went to Switzerland.
The Middleton siblings have always been athletic and sporty, so this is nothing new for any of them.
How often were these done prior to her sister’s engagement to The Prince? Or did most of them, like her attempts at a career, come after she became “famous” as the other Middleton sister?
@Nota: except that this is the one thing she never leveraged into a real career except for that British Heart Foundation Ambassadorship. The closest was trying to blog about tennis. In fact, a lot of people found it odd that as a self styled writer that she never chose to pursue athletic lifestyle writing/blogging, since it’s something she clearly has a passion for and an interest.
