Tom Hiddleston stepped out in London to support Gemma Arterton, huh

Here are some photos of Tom Hiddleston supporting his friend (??) Gemma Arterton at the party for the Donmar Warehouse’s production of Saint Joan. My first instinct was “make a story about how Gemma and Tom are obviously crushing on each other.” Then I thought, “Wait, isn’t she married?” As it turns out, she got a divorce last year. She might be single right now. And Gemma plus Tom? I would be into that. I’ve always like Gemma – she seems very low-key, she turns in consistently good work and she’s not a famewhore. Which might be a problem, because I think Tom might only date famewhores at this point.

Anyway, it’s been a few weeks since we’ve had new Hiddles photos, so I just thought the Dragonflies would enjoy a little Hiddles Christmas present. We’ll probably be seeing him a lot in the new year – he’s been nominated for a Golden Globe (but not a SAG) for The Night Manager, and I believe he’ll probably be invited to be a presenter at the Oscars, especially considering that Kong: Skull Island comes out in March. MOAR HIDDLES!

Also: GQ is doing a poll for the “most stylish man of 2016” and it’s currently down to Roger Federer and Hiddles. Which is a joke. Federer is easily one of the most stylish men in the world, every single year. Hiddles wore an “I Heart T.S.” t-shirt. No contest.

Well, Federer is winning the poll handily. He has some dedicated fans.
According to Twitter, Tom rode his bicycle (with safety vest and helmet on over his nice suit) to the St. Joan press night. In those shoes, too!!

    • lightpurple says:

Glad to hear about the safety vest and helmet. Had a very long discussion the other night with some friends at a party about bike safety and how we see so many people on heavily congested roads or on dark roads at night without proper reflective gear, helmets, and lights.

      • MI6 says:

One sighting at the Donmar reported his vest was bright pink, green and yellow. 😂 I love how quirky he is. He’s a joy.
And one (albeit horrifying) fashion faux pas does not a sartorial failure make.
        Team Hiddles!!

    • OhDear says:

And his hair still stayed up like that! The power of gel, lol.

(But good on him for actually wearing a helmet and vest! I see a lot of bike riders who don’t wear helmets riding on extremely busy streets and I both wonder and pray for them.)

  2. V4Real says:

I used to have a thing for Gemma, I kinda still do.

    • detritus says:

She’s very prettty, but that Mother of the Bride monstrosity of a dress does her no favors.

      • MI6 says:

Love her too but yeah, no. That dress is BAD.

      • Miss Melissa says:

Nor does the haircut. I think she is stunning, but I don’t think the short cut flatters her as much as longer hair does.

      • ichsi says:

@Miss Melissa That hair comes with the part of Joan.
I think it suits her, but then she’s so stunningly beautiful that I’d probably think a red clown wig would look great on her.

  3. lightpurple says:

Let the curls flow freely, Thomas, stop pushing them up and back. Theater kids stand up for one another and he supports the Donmar.

  4. Don't kill me I'm French says:

Gemma is with a French guy now .An assistant director .They live in Paris (France) in the same block of Scarlet Johansson

  5. Sixer says:

I want to say something snarky about LEGS but I love Gemma, so I shall resist.

This may change after I have eaten whateveritis that Sixlet Minor has decided to cook. Current smells emanating from the kitchen are not encouraging and I may have sufficient indigestion later to cast off any inhibitions about being mean in Gemma’s company.

    • lightpurple says:

I do hope medical intervention is not needed and that indigestion is minimal.

ETA and kudos to Sixlet minor for wanting to cook and to you for being willing to eat it.

      • Sixer says:

I’m wrapping Christmas presents and he volunteered, bless him.

However, while volunteering does get brownie points, I am unconvinced on chicken thighs and a tin of pineapple as main ingredients. He thinks it will be the sweet and sour to end all sweet and sours. I am thinking that it probably won’t.

Major is helping wrap. This is also an unconvincing effort involving 27 rolls of sellotape per present.

ETA: OMG! Major read that and slapped me upside the head! Ok. 26 rolls. *ducks*

      • lightpurple says:

It may end the desire anyone has for sweet and sour.

I just went looking for the tape here and couldn’t find it. Now I know Major took it to wrap presents. My sacrifice for the cause.

      • Sixer says:

I thank you for your sacrifice.

I have a very small (A5) framed watercolour wrapped by Major and the recipient is going to think it’s a soccer ball, I swear.

    • Bonzo says:

My boy made breakie for him and his sis this morning… frozen waffles. Choc chip with raisins and PB for him and plain with PB for her. He couldn’t reach the syrup however, so I had to get my fat ass off the couch and LABOUR for the cause.

We keep meals simple here so no strange smells unless it’s burnt.

      • Sixer says:

You need a better shelf for the syrup! I wish Minor was making waffles.

      • Bonzo says:

I was thinking the same thing… lower shelf!

So, I received a gift from one of my botanically-minded book club friends that you’ll appreciate. Thanks to her, I’m forcing my first hyacinth as I write. Never heard of such a thing but already seeing the first couple of spikes popping out of the top.

I’m feeling very green-thumby this holiday season after being scarred from killing a couple of ficus in the 90’s. There could be hope for me yet!

ETA: Modus was a little disappointing, ja?

      • Sixer says:

OOH! Name the first flower Bucket!

I have the last two episodes of Modus still to watch. Is it all a damp squib in the end? Phooey. I was hoping I could take my mind off the fabled sweet and sour with those episodes!

      • Lightpurple says:

Many bulb flowers can be forced. I force daffodils for my sister for Christmas every year. Your bright, fragrant hyacinth will be a delight in the winter chill.

      • Bonzo says:

It wraps up quickly, lets just say. There were a lot of cliches and plot holes, imo. I did enjoy looking at that Ingvar fella, tho’. Did you know that Inger is Joel Kinnaman’s sister?

So how does one go about naming a flower bucket?? Is it like naming a car or a dog?

      • Sixer says:

Sorry, meant call the hyacinth itself Bucket. Pronounced Bouquet of course!

      • Lightpurple says:

All our office plants have names. The office manager insists. We did have a hyacinth called Bucket. She named an a spider plant Rosy. I think it is confused

      • Bonzo says:

If I manage not to kill this boo-kay, I just might force more bulbs in my future. Our soil here is so hard to grow things in, they might be the only botanical successes I can lay claim to.

After consulting The Pompous British Name Generator, I’m gonna name her Prunella.

      • lightpurple says:

Prunella Scales ! Sybil from Fawlty Towers!

      • Sixer says:

        A good morning!

I survived the monstering of chicken sweet and sour (not gourmet but edible).

        Prunella is a GENIUS name!

(Don’t forget that there is a 2 episode Christmas special of Last Tango in Halifax on iPlayer, Bonzo.)

(Prunella Scales has dementia and she and Timothy West do a lovely show together where they travel up and down canals on their houseboat and generally chart both the journey and her gradual loss of short term memory.)

      • Bonzo says:

I’m happy to hear your insides didn’t rebel against the sweet & sour chicken.

No I didn’t know about the Last Tango Christmas specials… downloading now!

After reading about Prunella Scales, I’m even more proud of my hyacinth’s namesake.

  6. JulP says:

I like her new haircut. Wish I could pull off a ‘do like that (but alas, my hair is way too curly)

  7. Whatabout says:

I believe she’s in a long term relationship with a french director. But they would make a cute couple.

  8. Jessie says:

Geez, here we go again it’s hilarious how hiddles fans always think he could get any actress he stands next too.
Its normal for actors in London to go to theatre premiers in support of their friends. Anyways Gemma is in a relationship with the extremly hot French director Franklin Ohanessien. Just like Brie Larson, Jessica chastain and various actresses people try to hook him up with she has a long term partner…

  9. Dani says:

All I care about is those gorgeous satiny shoes. What are they!

  10. Sarah says:

They are friends. Gemma was at RADA at the same time as TH. She has a French boyfriend.

  11. third ginger says:

He looks terrific and very happy. I think he likes being home. I not only love her haircut; I have her haircut. I have colored my hair [now platinum] since my daughter was a toddler. By then I was in my early forties and regularly mistaken for her grandmother. I was once a blonde and will never go back.

  12. spidey says:

I too was once a blonde – until I was about four! 😁

  13. Mere says:

They’re reminding me of Salma Hayek & Edward Norton c. 2000.

  14. justme says:

I think that if Gemma is playing St. Joan, she probably HAS to have a short haircut. Hadley Fraser (another friend of Tom’s) is also in this production. And of course he always supports the Donmar. He looks good and very happy.

  15. Lightpurple says:

As this post touches ever so slightly on men’s fashion, I’m going to put this here. The man sitting across from me on the train is wearing white tube socks and teal plastic flip flops. Everyone else is wearing boots.

  16. Beluga says:

I just love her. Check out the BBC version of Tess of the D’Urbervilles a few years back. She’s perfect. Ultimate girl crush.

  17. Ninette says:

Apparently she is single now, not that it would have matter with our dear Tom 😉 Anyways wasnt BC and Sophie Hunter been friends for years before getting together….

  18. RUNSWITHSCISSORS says:

Since I’m in the “anyone but Rhode Island Barbie” camp, I’d be fine with this hookup. Although she sounds like the low-key type (sorry) so that might not work for LEGS…plus that dress isn’t low-cut, so he is blocked from ogling her cleavage. Poor Tommy.

  19. IndifferentCat says:

He’s won the GQ style awards, he’s was doing a photoshoot for them a couple of weeks back in London. Trust, I saw it happen.

  20. mklip says:

another stupid poll? does anybody care? He already got honored by the GQ mag -_-

  21. A. Key says:

She’s not a good actress but she’s so beautiful and seems like a lovely person, I’d almost say she’s too good for him.
