God, I wish Ruth Negga was a bigger contender for Best Actress. I will burn the place down if she doesn’t get an Oscar nomination, but I wish she was in the conversation for actual awards, you know? Because look at this dress! This is a winner’s dress. Several women wore Louis Vuitton at last night’s Golden Globes, but Negga was by far the winner. She wore the best LV and I have zero shade for it. Like, do I think the zipper down the front is a strange design element? Sure. Do I think the dress makes her look like she’s got robot boobs? Yes. But it totally works. She looks amazing.
Not so amazing? Sophie Turner in Louis Vuitton. This is a good example of why I dislike LV’s current line so much. Why would you do this to a lovely young woman? So unflattering. Also: isn’t it interesting that Game of Thrones was in no part of the conversation last night for awards? They didn’t win anything for arguably their best season.
And finally, here’s Civil War Ghost Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton. I’ll say something nice: I think it’s sweet that she still attends these things with her BFF Busy Phillips (Busy’s wearing Stella McCartney). Something not so nice? Michelle’s dress is awful. It’s an awful thing to do to a Civil War ghost. Also: I love that Michelle lost the award to Viola Davis. Please, keep doing this, awards shows.

I was wondering the same thing….Civil War ghost? Seems negligent and racist to me, but please, correct me if I’m missing something. There seems to be a lot of negativity coming from Celebitchy today. Enough to make consider finding a new gossip website.

Yes Bridget, I do. Negligent means to be careless, and for a website that is sensitive to race and women’s issues, I find the “civil war ghost” comment to be just that. If CB would have used that term to describe a person of color’s shade of skin, would that be okay? No, probably not.
The silly part is I’m not usually offended by much, and have a tendency to roll my eyes at people who are. For some reason though, this really irritated me.

You know what is so weird? Michelle is a LV advertising girl, she should have the first pick on any of their dresses and every award season LV gives their best dresses for someone else but her. At least this time they decided to give the worst to Sophia, it is really fucked up.

I love Ruth Negga’s face so much that I’m willing to give the robot boobs a pass. It feels 1920’s to me, like Josephine Baker if she’d starred in Fritz Lang’s Metropolis.

This is much better hair too, I did not like that Michelle Williams inspired twee nonsense from the other day, but I do love this styling.

Yes. It makes no sense to me either. I absolutely love both Ruth and Sophie and they’re both SO beautiful but these dresses… Ruth can work pretty much everything, no matter how weird but this dress does nothing for her and it’s simply not worthy. If you HAD to put Sophie’s dress on someone she would be the best choice, but I don’t get who designed this and thought, ‘yes, the is a good idea, this is great’. And I won’t even comment on the catastrophe that is Michelle’s dress.
Ruth looks amazing here. I think she might be one of the best dressed for the evening so far.
Sophie’s dress is fun too. I don’t care so much for the batwing/dolman sleeves, but the dress is original and it stood out next to the other dresses on the carpet.
Busy looks better than Michelle. She usually does.

I like Ruth’s dress too. She also has a lot of makeup ( maybe not extra but quite noticeable). That is not the right hair colour for m, but more makeup may have helped. Loathe the choker! I mean if Michelle chooses hair and choker like that maybe LV first choice can’t help her anyways. On the bad dress, I think I’d like it if they left off the karate belt.

Exactly. She is a thing right now with “all the awards for her attitude”, there is always someone that people feel is “due” or underappriciated but I just find it obnoxious.
Viola was great in Fences and really deserved to win. Actually, i’m surprised that her performance was in the supporting actress category-it seemed more like a leading role to me.
At least with Marc Jacobs things were more wearable, although Ruth is absolutely striking.

Ruth and Busy were both great, fitted well, just gorgeous. Not really feeling Michelle’s look, but I kinda want to like it. It feels like something is missing with the dress.
