Simon Cowell’s ex Terri Seymour attacked and choked by woman

There’s nothing like trying to get into the mind of a celebrity stalker. Mostly because – without exception – they’ve always lost their minds. Which is the only feasible explanation for why Simon Cowell’s ex-girlfriend, Terri Seymour, was attacked last night. A woman asked her if she was Cowell’s girlfriend, and then lunged at her and tried to choke her. Terri and Simon broke up in the fall, which begs the question: did crazy pants try to choke Terri because she’s no longer with Simon? Or because she was once with Simon? Is the crazy lady Simon’s stalker, or Terri’s? Should she be locked up forever and ever, or just for forever?

We’ve learned Terri Seymour — Simon Cowell’s ex — was assaulted after attending the “American Idol” finale last night.

It happened at L.A. Live — a complex that includes the Nokia Theatre where “A.I.” was taped. A 33-year-old woman walked up to Terri, asked if she was Simon’s girlfriend. The suspect allegedly attacked her and attempted to choke her.

The suspect — Janice Thibodeaux — was booked on felony battery. She’s being held on $52,700 bail.

We’re told Terri refused medical treatment. She was escorted out of the complex by three cops.

Just found out Thibodeaux is twice Terri’s size, weighing in at 200 lbs.

UPDATE — TMZ spoke with Thibodeaux’s brother and sister who told us Janice is “not crazy” and this is “way out of character” for her.

Thanks for that unbiased – and I’m sure medically accurate – diagnosis of your crazy sibling. Attacking someone who has not provoked you is crazy. If Thibodeaux’s brother and sister think she’s not crazy, then how exactly would they explain what happened? Ahh, yes, crazy’s the only explanation. Hopefully Thibodeaux won’t be able to make her bail. Stalker’s don’t ever give up on their own. They either get locked away, terrorize their victim and ruin their lives, or the worst-case scenario: they cause them physical harm. What I really don’t understand is a lot of stalkers are obsessed/in love with their victim. They don’t hate them. Yet they often try to physically assault them, which makes absolutely no sense. Though using sense is clearly a waste of time here.

Luckily it sounds like Terri’s fine, though I’m sure that was a traumatic experience. Hopefully this lady will remained locked up for a long, long time. Though considering the way the legal system deals with mentally ill offenders, I doubt it.

Having once been a victim of a stalker, this sends chills down my spine. The person should be locked up for a very long time, and forced into psychiatric treatment.

Poor Terry. Maybe even if the woman is not locked up for a long time, it was a crazy, isolated incident and would not happen again. I hope everything turned out alright for you, barneslr.

What did we learn from all this?

    1. Never date Simon Cowell (which I didn’t think was a lesson that needed to be learned…)

    2. Always carry a sharp object

    3. Develop stronger neck.

Annie, does it make me a horrible person that I found lessons 2, and 3 to be rather hilarious? Because uhm, I did… 🙂 It reminded me of the Monty Python Self Defense from Fruit sketch (what if someone attacks you with a pointed stick)

The situation itself though is unbelievably horrifying, and I hope this lady is locked up in a psyche ward for a good while to say the very least, and furthermore hope Terri Seymour isn’t mentally scarred from the whole thing.

Maybe the woman found her voice as irritating as I do

  6. Sara says:

It can be a form of psychosis called erotomania. The sufferer firmly believes that their feelings are reciprocated. If that is the problem here then this woman should be in a hospital not a prison.

    @Annie

    *DEAD*

I know this is wrong, but I don’t like this woman. Her voice is so annoying (and I usually love British accents). Her voice always sounds as if there is something caught up in her vocal cords but is struggling to get out (and I don’t mean words). I can barely stand her on that entertainment show. She grates.

Plus it seems she is only newsworthy due to being Simon’s (ex)-girlfriend. That’s probably how she got the entertainment reporting job as well.

Having said this, I don’t feel happy about her being attacked. That must have been scary for her.

@ georgiagrl………after a while i realized she didn’t have a cold and thought, oh my!

Wasn’t Blanche from Golden Girls named “Thibodeaux”?

There’s more research than ever being done on neurology and psychiatry, and someday we’ll understand the physiology of mental illness. It’s sad, painful, and scary for everyone involved.

  11. barneslr says:

No, Blanche was Devereaux. Thibodeaux was one of the names on the Cosby show (Elvin and Saundra’s last name. Sad that I remember these things!)

Yes. Being stalked all of those things. We need stronger, severe laws against stalkers. When it happened to me there were virtually NO antistalking laws, so there has been progress, but not enough. While I feel sorry for those with whatever mental illness causes it, I feel sorrier for their victims. Stalkers can be relentless and can take over and ruin ones’ life and you can still be left with little or no recourse. Not so bad for celebs who can hire protection (although that can’t be much fun either), but for the ordinary folks trying to live their ordinary lives…it can be hell.

I only wish that woman had succeeded in choking that annoying bitch to death. If I never hear that hideous voice, the vapid comments, or see that grinning toothy face again it would be too soon.
