Imagine this: FLOTUS Mindy Kaling. It could happen, people! And no, I’m not suggesting that Mindy Kaling become the fourth Mrs. Emperor Baby Fists. I’m suggesting that Mindy Kaling marry Senator Cory Booker, then Booker can run for president in 2020 and he’ll win and Mindy will be our FLOTUS. I’m very into this idea. I think Booker is into it too. The backstory is that on a recent episode of The Mindy Project, Mindy’s character made a joke about Newark, New Jersey, Sen. Booker’s beloved hometown. The joke was that Sen. Booker made an appearance at a New York party and the Mindy character quipped, “I guess anything to get out of Newark, huh?” I guess Sen. Booker catches up on his favorite Hulu shows when he can, and he tweeted this:

Please, this is literally the best thing that’s happened all year. The only thing which could possibly come close is if Michael Shannon left his wife for Senator Elizabeth Warren (now there is a dream couple). I need Mindy and Sen. Booker to make this happen for themselves and for the good of the country. First there will be some shy dates in Newark. Then a wedding in Boston (because Mindy’s paying for it, obviously, and that’s where she’s from). Then she’ll join him on the presidential campaign trail in 2020. There’s even time to pop out a half-Indian, half-New Jersey baby.

Yes Corey is straight and is known to date/sleep with white women exclusively. I know this not just via the many internet discussions of this but because I am family friends with one of his staffers. Mindy is pretty much the straight female version of that. Maybe they’ll break each others patterns but more likely they’ll both get a nice bump in their cool factor and move along.
That aside, is Mindy even a dem much less a liberal? She has always struck me as one of those POC who dont understand the importance of holding the door open once The Man lets you in. I wouldnt be surprised if she is a “pull yourselves up by the bootsraps like I did” closet Republican.

I don’t know about her real offline personal life, but on her show, I thought that all of her love interests were white men. And this caused some sort of kerfuffle on this site or somewhere else.

Yeah, I’m only telling you what my family friend has told us. Ordinarily we know better than to ask him about his boss but remember the white stripper who came out to say they were sexting or something? This was at the peak of the Obama successor buzz. We were like “this is some bs to turn white male voters against him because a lot of white men go to a visceral place when a black guy even looks at their precious women”. My husband said something of that nature to our friend and his immediate response was “no, shes probably not lying” and “guy really likes to swirl” and “never seen him serious about a sista”. Not exact words but paraphrased. During our nightly gossip session, hubby and I thought to google it and sure enough the same thing came up on plenty of message boards. This was years ago and honestly I dont think I’m spilling tea here. I feel like this is known. I feel fairly confident that I read similar sentiments when people tried to push the Gayle King possibility. Along with speculation that the reason that he doesnt publicise his serious relationships or even marry is because an interracial thing could be a political landmine among both black and white voters.
Its of course possible that he has dated black women too and that my impressions are entirely mistaken.

He is charismatic. I went to college with him and he’s an amazing leader. But he has a problem with big pharma and all the wall st money he’s raised.
Glad you brought this up. He recently voted against a bill that would’ve allowed lower priced or nearly free prescription drugs to be available in the U.S. from Canada.
He turned it down because of “safety” concerns even though many prescription drugs in Canada are sent over from the U. S. already so his justification doesn’t make much sense. He’s just another politician bought by Big Pharma, which cost him a lot of credibility with potential voters, including this one.
Lady Rain – my senator from NM voted against that as well for the same reason and I completely believe him. He’s since worked to come up with better legislation that will allow access to non-US prescription drugs, but that keep the safety regulations we are used to.

Am I alone in finding her incredibly irritating? Her show lacks a sense of maturity, her humor reminds me of high school, and she is all about body positivity yet her promo photos are photoshopped to hell and back to make her look thin.
I really liked her on the office, and was excited for her solo foray, but try as I might all I ever feel is irritated when I watch or listen to her. I wouldn’t be thrilled with her for First Lady at all!
I couldn’t even get thru the first season of her show, and I really wanted to like it.
I love her on both but the office is more of a classic I guess. Behind on TMP but planning to watch the whole thing. Hard for any show to beat the office
I have tried so hard to love her comedy, but The Mindy Project is awful. I like Mindy Kaling as a person and I cry when I read pretty much anything she writes or says about her mother in interviews (her mom died from cancer and their closeness reminds me of my own relationship with my mom). With some comedic actresses, the material is just fucking terrible, even if they write it themselves. I feel like Mindy deserves better than The Mindy Project… I felt the same way about Melissa McCarthy and that god awful “Mike and Molly” show.
I’m glad I’m not the only one. We are watching on netflix, and my husband loves it. I cannot stand her character. I like all the rest of them, but loathe her.
Anyone watch Into the Badlands? We just finished season 1, on netflix, and it was fantastic. Season just started so it will be a while until netflix, but worth the wait.
I’ve listened to both her books, and find her just as irritating/ shallow/ insecure IRL as on the show. She really does seem stuck in highschool.

I think her writing is funny. But she’s definitely from that upper class, Northeast prep school, Ivy League background-so I don’t think her humor is universal.
I liked the first two seasons but then her character got REALLY annoying and I couldn’t handle the revolving door of co-workers who fell in love with her immature ass. The “tee hee I’m so ditzy” act got very old when they started making entire episodes around it, rather than just sprinkling it over the top.
Me too, third season is when I bowed out. More because her character became a selfish monster but the men annoyed me too.

I absolutely love Cory. He makes me proud to be from the Newark area. He cleaned it up a lot, making it a more “cool” place to hang out, as long as you’re in a safer area. Big art scene and great food. Anyway, he seems like such a nice, but passionate man with a heart. Mindy is a cutie so if this is for real, it would be nice if they hit it off!

He seems like a nice guy but I find him very overrated I don’t see him as this great hope for the democrats. He’s been in bed with big business and Wall Street and worked with betsy davois when it benefitted him. For someone realtively young ( in politics) I think he has too many contradictions and not enough principled actions. He’s very good at branding himself and PR though. On a personal note last I know he was dating a girl young enough to be his daughter so that also makes me think he isn’t the most mature of men.
