Justin Theroux doesn’t buy jewelry for Jennifer Aniston, he gives her flip-flops

WB Studios Presentation At CinemaCon 2017

Here are some photos of Justin Theroux at CinemaCon last week (I didn’t get around to using these pics!). He was there for the Warner Bros. rollout, and he gave interviews to promote The Lego Ninjago Movie (he does voice work as Garmadon). Incidentally, I recently (finally) saw The Girl on the Train and… Justin did okay. Watching the movie, I was reminded of how the book annoyed the crap out of me, but they did a decent job adapting it. I think Justin did okay with the material he was given, but he wasn’t really given the space to “steal” scenes, you know? Anyway, Justin was giving interviews and there are some interesting quotes, mostly about his marriage to Jennifer Aniston.

Shopping for Jennifer’s birthday: “It’s always a critical moment, because I have Christmas, her birthday and Valentine’s Day in pretty short order, so I start shopping in November. It’s usually something that is the easiest thing in the world — a snuggie. Or I’ll figure out something like that, something fun. I’ve given up on mass pieces of jewelry or clothes. She’s got all that. It’s usually something like an amazing pair of flip-flops, something she can get cozy with.”

Doing voice work for an animated movie: “It’s the best part of the job. You get to do it, it’s low pressure, you shout out your lines, you laugh a lot.”

Vacationing in Cabo for Jennifer’s birthday: “It’s a great spot because it’s close to L.A. You can dip over there and dip back.”

The pinata: “We do special things. I did a little night for her birthday where we went to a special dinner and had a piñata…. Actually, we didn’t put anything in the piñata. We had a piñata and didn’t end up smashing it. What are you going to put in it? Kale? She doesn’t eat candy!”

On his wedding: “It’s so much more special when it’s just your closest friends and family and it’s lovely. [Aniston and I] wanted it to be a peaceful environment, you don’t want it to be hectic.”

[From People, E! News and Us Weekly]

I laughed at the idea that he’s “given up” on giving Jennifer jewelry or some piece of clothing. While I believe that jewelry is always welcome, no matter what, I can see why he would have given up gifting jewelry specifically to Jennifer – it’s because she’s not a big jewelry-wearer. She likes small, simple pieces, mostly from her friend Jennifer Meyer’s line. On the rare occasions when Aniston does wear some bigger piece, she usually just borrows it for the red carpet. Still… what do you give the rich woman who has everything? Flip-flops, apparently.

And not having candy in the pinata is just sad! Aniston won’t even eat candy on her birthday?!

They sound sweet, thoughtful and low key.

I knew barely any of his work until The Leftovers. He is great in it, can’t wait for Season 3 this month!!

    • Lahdidahbaby says:

Yeah, Esmom, I used to hate him for absolutely no reason except his one high eyebrow (which I thought made him look creepy), and now, after watching him in The Leftovers, I not only like him and admire his acting chops, I even kinda like-ish his high eyebrow.

      • mia girl says:

That eyebrow could teach an acting class at Juliard!

      • Lahdidahbaby says:

Lol, mia girl, wish I’d said that. And I probably will.

      • Akku says:

He was in the European version of a Muse video years ago (playing a creeper – must be the eyebrow!) and I never saw him in anything significant until The Leftovers started. Agree, he’s great in that show – it was a bit of a revelation. I think it shows how important casting is – pick the right actor for the part and it’s almost alchemy.

yeah, I took the flip flops bit as kind of thoughtful, too.

he knows she’s a beach girl, who like simple things and we’ve all seen her in flip flops…and don’t underestimate an amazing pair of them! I got a pair that has the sole made out of YOGA MATS. they are the most comfortable flip flops I’ve ever owned. bought two pair, one for inside, one for outside.

and honestly, his pinata story cracked me up. “Kale?!”

      • Lahdidahbaby says:

Doof, I’ve seen an ad somewhere for flipflops with yoga mat soles and I thought they were cute but must be so flimsy –do they hold up?

      • lem says:

the yoga mat flops are glorious. they have a firmer sole and the cushion is the mat material. buy them now.

      • Nike says:

Dude, there are some neat flip-flops out there – and they get pricey. My Mom used to love the beach, and everything beach-related… finding some special flip-flops was a big deal to her.

      • doofus says:

what lem said. the actual sole is quality and firm but the part that your foot goes on is WONDERFULLY SOFT.

the strap is leather but not stiff or fragile that might break. it’s double sided and stitched.

my sister was skeptical until she tried them on. she went out that day and bought a pair.

ETA: ok, I had to look up the brand. mine are Sanuk, but I think others make them, too.

      • Lahdidahbaby says:

Thanks for the info — I’m off to shop a pair.

    • Jenns says:

International Assassin was one of the best hours of TV ever. Although there is the Damon Lindelof factor, I really hope that this final season delivers.

Justin – You disappoint me with your lack of creativity!
You were in Cabo with that crowd… You could have easily put little bottles of tequila, lime wedges and salt packets in the piñata!

  3. AnotherDirtyMartini says:

I hope he at least gives her nice flip flops..and not the kind that are shower shoes & fall apart right away. Give her adorable & expensive flip flops, Justin.

The Girl on the Train book annoyed me also. I must have started it 6 times. It felt dull at first. Then, I was disappointed because it was kinda easy to figure out who the murderer was about 1/2 way through the book. That’s too soon to figure it out. Before some obvious clues, the author was doing an okay job at making me suspect a few people.

Whatever. I haven’t watched the movie yet. Someday.

    • Esmom says:

I agree that the book was terrible, as does the rest of my book group. But we did like certain elements of it, like the novelty of gin and tonics in a can! I haven’t watched bothered to watch the movie yet either, probably because it was moved from the UK to NYC, and it was the British aspects that I liked the most in the book.

  4. AnotherDirtyMartini says:

Kale in the piñata! Hahaha…I might just like him.

  5. Tourmaline says:

Those quotes were cute. I am rooting for these two despite some blind gossip items that Justin cheats on her.

  6. Rhiley says:

I don’t hate Jennifer Aniston by any means. I think she is a pretty good comedic actress and she her commercials do not annoy me nearly as much as a Jennifer Garner commercial does. Also, Jennifer Aniston has been a strong advocate for animals and animal rights and I dig that. I would love to be Jennifer Aniston’s dog. That said, she really does seem sooo boring. If I had her money and her time, I would love to travel all over the world. Experience new places, eat new food. Maybe she does and just doesn’t get papped but it seems like the only places she goes are various cities in California, Mexico, and then New York. Also, I find the flip flop comment odd because in other interviews Justin has gone off about how he hates flip flops and never wants to be “that guy.’

  7. ann says:

She might not like his taste in Jewelry. The big gaudy engagement ring was hidden by her hand in her pocket for months. Then I think she went on to say it wasn’t her style or something like that. She has a nice wedding ring now, but you never see that big engagement ring anymore. I didn’t like the big ring, but I’m sure it cost a fortune. I’d be interested to know what happened to it, Anybody know? You’d think she’d be asked that in interviews.
