Mel B’s ex stole all the photos of her late dad, took Spice Girls memorabilia

In case you need any more evidence that Mel B’s estranged husband, Stephen Belafonte, is a vindictive POS, it was brought up in court by their lawyers Friday that Mel wanted Stephen to return items he stole when she kicked him out of their house. Those items had both personal and professional meaning to her in that he took boxes of photographs of her late father, who just passed this spring, and boxes of Spice Girls memorabilia. Apparently the lawyers met to argue on behalf of their clients, who were not present. Also at issue, the sex tapes that Stephen made of Mel during their romps with other women. Stephen has repeatedly threatened to release the footage if and when Mel dared to leave his abusive ass. Mel’s lawyers confirmed with the court Stephen is blocked from releasing intimate photos and videos of their client. He’s also been ordered to return the items he spitefully stole, however there’s less progress on that front. Here’s the story, thanks to TMZ:

Mel B’s lawyers just got a judge to reinforce a court [order] that Stephen Belafonte is prohibited from distributing sex tapes, photographs or other sexually explicit material of the former Spice Girl.

Lawyers for both sides were in court Friday morning dealing with the sex tapes. Sources connected to Mel B tell TMZ, Belafonte repeatedly threatened multiple times to release sex tapes of her, just before she went to court to get a restraining order against him.

Now this is even crazier. One of the issues raised Friday was that Mel B’s lawyers say after Mel B filed for divorce last month and left the family house, Belafonte took 12 to 15 boxes from the garage containing all of the photos of her recently deceased father, along with all of her Spice Girls memorabilia and put it in a storage locker somewhere in L.A.

[From TMZ]

Apparently Stephen has a storage locker, which he’s used Mel’s money to pay for since he’s a leeching SOB, under the name of their former nanny. This is the same nanny whom he turned against Mel, impregnated and then convinced to have an abortion. If this was a TV movie I would think it was far-fetched. There’s a request to the judge to have Stephen provide the address and access code to the storage facility where the items are allegedly stored but there is no ruling on that yet.

Stephen’s ex girlfriend, Nicole Contreras, the one he was convicted in 2003 of domestic abuse against, has spoken to The Sun about what she went though in their five year on-off relationship. It’s a sadly familiar story of a charming rogue who would fly into fits of jealous abusive rage at any sign she was talking to other men, all while cheating on her with handfuls of other women. Nicole said she regrets not warning Mel about Stephen, but that her main concern was getting out of the relationship. Plus she knows firsthand how convincing and enthralling Stephen can be and added “I don’t know if she would have even listened to me at the time.

Last week, before the news came out that Mel had filed for a domestic abuse restraining order, we heard that one of her threesome partners was Lady Victoria Hervey. Victoria spoke to The Sun about the situation and she confirmed that story, along with the fact that she was informed that they may have been secretly taped by Stephen during that encounter. According to Mel’s request for a restraining order, Stephen regularly did this in order to have leverage against her. Victoria had some really nice things to say about her conversation with Mel, and made it clear that Stephen reached out to her after the news came out about the divorce. I guess we know who leaked that story then as suspected. Victoria is completely on Mel’s side and said “No woman should suffer like she has, I feel terribly for her.” This whole story reminds me of the statistic that bisexual women are much more likely to be victims of domestic abuse and assault.

There’s a report that Mel plans to offer Stephen a settlement of £5M ($6.2 million USD) and a private island she owns in Virginia. That story originated in The Daily Star so the source is suspect and it seems too early for that. I wouldn’t be surprised if she threw money at him just to get him away from her, but I think it will take some time.

This guy sounds worse everyday . What a gross monster. Upsetting she took this long to leave. I hope everything goes well for her and she stays strong

    • Heather says:

Lots of money is probably a good buffer. They probably had some good times while he was spending her money.

    • Brickyardute says:

Just a comment on the “upsetting it took HER this long to leave.” Clearly the situation was horrifying and we should be sure to not fall into language that puts blame on the victim. We have no idea what he threatened her with or why she stayed. She should be applauded for finding a way out of this situation and not critiqued for the amount of time spent.

Not trying to come at anyone, just pointing out harmful DV abuse myths. I used to say things like this too before working with shelters and better understanding all they go through to get out of these situations. Doesn’t matter how much $$ or fame, this can happen to anyone. Thanks for allowing me this “the more you know” moment.

      • detritus says:

this stuck with me as well.
its upsetting she had to leave. its upsetting she had to deal with any of this.
what isn’t upsetting is the timeline.

she took as long as she needed to get out, and she did. that is something to be proud/admirable of her for, not upset about.

      • Otaku Fairy says:

Great point. It seems like she had all kinds of things to worry about having to deal with if she left him, from the mess that comes with public figures and abuse cases, the risk of not being believed, his blackmailing of her with things that would be used against her because of her gender, sexuality, and probably race too, the possibility of him killing her (which it definitely seems like he’s capable of), to even the possibility of him violently retaliating against her relatives and friends or what might happen to her kids.

      • LoveShoes says:

Thank you for your input. As a survivor of DV, I knew that he would kill me. He had actually tried several times after I left and believes his lies that it would never happen again. I was fortunate enough that his business failed and decided to enlist. I waited until he passed basic and had him served.
It not the fault of the woman. These men are master manipulators with the ability to tear you down as each day goes by until you have nothing left.
I applaud Mel for dumping his sorry as and I hope he gets what he deserves, nothing.

    • Lucy says:

Has anyone seen the stories about the nanny? Apparently she’s working with this douche to extort Mel as well. She has the key and address for the storage locker but won’t give it up. She’s a scumbag as well!

  2. QQ says:

This story has gotten well past the point that is Stomach seizing to just all out Horror TBH .. My heart totally goes out to Mel, she seems like such a sparkly person I can’t imagine to still be that energetic and fun on the outside while bearing that load of abuse

    • Original T.C. says:

She has been living a life of complete horror. Every new bit of information makes me respect her ability to just get out of bed let alone function as a successful TV personality with big smiles and an upbeat, confident demeanor. My god! I would have rolled over and died if placed in a similar situation. So much strength and bravery.

    • detritus says:

I just want to give her a big hug.
She’s got a hard bit ahead of her, but it sounds like her family and friends are welcoming her back with open arms, which is so good to see.

  3. Lucy says:

I don’t even know what else to say about this. Good for the ex gf for speaking out. Also, say what you will about Victoria, but good for her as well. When women support each other, good things happen.

  4. Nicole says:

He sounds like the monsters in the tv shows we see on tv. I mean there’s no words for how appalling this is. I hope the judge doesn’t grant any money requests because it’s like letting an abuser win. What he needs is jail time for abuse and extortion.

Also there’s a story that apparently Simon also tried to get Mel to leave more than once and that he was one of the reasons she finally did this time. If this is true then good for him being on her corner (he still sucks but this is good).

    • Anna says:

Why isn’t he in jail? If this were a tv show, dexter would show up at Stephens house soon. With a big plastic sheet.

      • Nicole says:

I’m guessing because mel didn’t file charges…I’m not sure what the precedent is for the state to press charges

  5. Snowflake says:

I feel sorry for the women he’s abused. This is too crazy to be made up. Plus, the abuse of the ex. As far as Mel B having sexwith other women, she’s bisexual. She probably thought maybe if she had sex with other women while he was there, that he wouldn’t cheat without her. And it sounds like her family hates him. Stealing pictures of her dad, that’s just low down dirty.

  6. Digital Unicorn (aKa Betti) says:

He’ll never go away. Too much money to be made off her. He’s an evil scum bag. As for the former nanny, there is something very dodgy going on with her and the scum bag. Why would Mel be paying for a storage locker In her former employees name? If the former nanny has nothing to hide the. Why isn’t she comp, ting with requests to hand over the details.

Mel has all the receipts and she’s dropping them all to stop him from trying to control her.

  7. Bee says:

Every day more and more despicable information comes to light about this guy. What sort of husband films their wife without their knowledge to use as blackmail? He doesn’t deserve ten cents.

  8. what's inside says:

Just goes to show that no matter how beautiful, rich, talented you are, you can still be victimized by evil.

  9. smee says:

Is he required to never leave the island she’s giving him as part of the settlement?

She wears really flashy clothes that I would not like if I saw them in a store, but she looks great in all of it.

My sister’s ex was a nightmare abuser and she came home to find all her clothes, photos, important papers in a pile, on fire, in front of the house they shared. Good times.

    • Beth says:

Your poor sister! I couldn’t imagine how scary that was. Awful that people could do these cruel things. The monster that did that should be on the island with Mels ex

      • smee says:

If only! But life sorted his evil a** out in the end. But yeah, very traumatic for everyone involved.

  10. Kiki says:

This is just ridiculously horrible. One of my favorite Spice Girls has been between a rock and a hard place. Her husband is real POS and vindictive SOB.

Mel B, you have your fans who is willing to be on your side for throughout this mess. As for this sex tape thing…. Look, we all know that Mel B is bisexual and most of us don’t care but if he did do a sex tape without your permission that is a federal crime and he could be charged for that.

    • Heather says:

I think the point is, she didn’t know he was filming, and, whether or not people are accepting of her choices, etc., maybe she doesn’t want to publicize those personal moments?

    • Otaku Fairy says:

It’s yet another example of how abusive, violent misogynist men (and others) are able to benefit from society’s stigmatizing of women who are ‘guilty’ of doing things like having threesomes, having sex on film, taking nude photos, or acting on being bisexual, pansexual, or gay.

      • detritus says:

Yup. He participated, taped them without their consent, yet the shame is on Mel.
Because sex is dirty for women and a conquest for men. so fun.

  11. CariBean says:

Deleted since someone upthread answered the question.

  12. pinetree13 says:

I read the comments on some of the other linked sites…I don’t know why…I knew what they’d be. “Oh look! She likes to have sex! She had a three-some THEREFORE she OBVIOUSLY did something ‘bad’ to warrant being treated this way and POOR him being tarnished by the media.” Just my daily dose of “oh look, blatant misogyny! Great way to start the day!”

On one of the sites a commentor said he also once killed a mallard duck with a brick. I’ve done no work to verify, so if that’s true WHAT A PSYCHO.

    • Otaku Fairy says:

Of course they went there. The issue of personal privacy for people of any gender or sexual orientation and not intimately filming anyone without their consent would always still be there, but if society could overcome certain prejudices more quickly, something like filmed sex, nude photos, threesomes, casual sex, or sexual acts between members of the same sex wouldn’t be as effective as weapons, and especially wouldn’t be more powerful as weapons against specific people based on what groups they’re a part of when it comes to gender, sexual orientation, etc. And I never get the logic of people of either sex who have no problem with the fact that they, or other consenting adults, have had sex with and gotten naked with partners, or even looked at some sort of porn or erotica, but somehow think they’re more moral, ethical, or in some other way better than these women who have made sex tapes or sent nudes to their partners. It’s the height of hypocrisy, especially when it comes from a liberal.

  13. trtgfc17 says:

Many of us ladies have dealt with psychos like this. Cut your losses and GO sweetie; fight in court over the kids and money as necessary, and be glad you’re out and remember IT IS ALL WORTH IT. Life is a learning experience and don’t be too hard on yourself over it later. He will continue to attempt abusing her through the court system as long as he possibly can, and I’m pretty sure Mel will not marry again for a long time if ever.

  14. holly hobby says:

That picture of him in an orange shirt looks creepy. He looks like a plastic doll that no one wants to buy!

  15. TheOtherOne says:

Stay strong and be safe, Mel B!

  16. Tessa says:

This sh*t bag is getting a private island? Wtf
Are there revenge porn laws in US? Because surely if a video was leaked of Mel getting it on, law enforcement would know it was him?

He looks like Kelsey Grammer, in the picture where they are in the car. Ew.

  19. Christine ward says:

He’s a scumbag he cheated on her he shouldn’t get nothing.stay strong my sister much love

  20. JRenee says:

I hope she has a prenup and gets security to keep him away from her. They have a child together, I’d have to have handoffs for visitation. I’d never meet him alone.

  21. heidi says:

Omg Mel…hang in there. Do not give the griftimg fucker a thing! No one cares about sex tapes…please do not give this creep money or an island.

  22. Luci Lu says:

No pity. She was stupid for marrying a man who had NOTHING. Stupid for not getting a Pre-nup. Stupid for hiring a young, attractive nanny, and stupid for not listening to her mother and sister, when they tried to warn her about her useless husband. She’s too old to be this stupid. Try to learn from your mistakes, dumb ass!
