Serena Williams wrote a note to her baby, from one #1 to another #1

Serena Williams is currently on vacation with her fiance Alexis Ohanian. They’re in Mexico, soaking up culture and sun and sand. Some might even call it a babymoon, although I feel like they’ve been on vacation now for a few months. Anyway, Serena posted this Instagram (above) with a message to the baby residing in the world #1’s belly:

My Dearest Baby,
You gave me the strength I didn’t know I had. You taught me the true meaning of serenity and peace. I can’t wait to meet you. I can’t wait for you to join the players box next year. But most importantly, I am so happy to share being number one in the world with you…. once again today. On @alexisohanian bday. 😉 from the world’s oldest number one to the world’s youngest number one. -Your Mommy

This isn’t so much an open letter to her baby as much as it’s a reminder that Serena currently holds the #1 ranking in women’s singles in the world. German player Angelique Kerber took the #1 ranking last year, but Serena retook it after the Australian Open, then lost it again briefly, and has now regained it… but not by playing any tournaments! She basically became #1 again because Kerber has been crashing out of tournaments so early and losing points. Also: I think it’s great that Serena keeps insisting that she’ll absolutely be back next year. Will the baby be in the player’s box? Hm.

Also: Romanian Hall-of-Famer Ilie Nastase is being investigated for some racist comments he made about Serena Williams. He was also thrown out of the Fed Cup games in Romania this weekend because he called British player Johanna Konta a “f–king bitch.”

So sorry about the Nastase developement.
I used to enjoy him playing so much.
    Bitter old man. . . . .?

    Serena is Queen.

  2. PIa says:

I admire Serena for her hard work and talent, but honestly, girl has her super basic (and somewhat cheesy moments, like this note and that picture of her fiance carrying her in New Zealand).

    • CityGirl says:

Not trying to be an instigator, but I don’t think there is anything wrong with being excited about being happy, in love, newly engaged, being #1 Singles in the World and having a Baby!!!

I don’t see that as basic or cheesy….

    • Lex says:

World’s worst faux pas = being “basic” apparently. Seriously, pull ya head out ya arse

  3. Miss Grace Jones says:

Nastase sounds like a real treat.

  4. Tiffany says:

I love her eyebrows. Mine are just not there and there are days were I wish I had a full set.

Yesterday for the first time in my lifen I went doing trekking on a mountain with my girlfriends. Only women. First time. We had the maps and all the stuff, the mountain was there 1580m, not that much but it was a good 2 hours walk, not too much difficult, but not even an easy one.
At a certain point one of the girl said: we cannot make it ! I said to her something like “Oooh Serena Williams won the Grand Slam while pregnant, we can kick the hell out of this mountain”
    😀
    Nastase is an I-diot

  6. QQ says:

This is not cheesy so much as a reminder to the girls about her Humanity Times 2 .. Humanly beat them asses with a human baby in tow is what she is saying here, she is confirming all the backwards counting about her PREGNANT win

  7. Megan says:

I just came to say I love Serena. GOAT!

  8. thaisajs says:

also: that pic on the top is beyond beautiful. the look in her eyes is everything.

Nasty is a 70 year old fool that does not care. What he said was what used to pass for a joke 40 years ago though. Remember sitcoms like Archie Bunker using “Zebra kids” for a laugh?

  12. Juniper says:

I love her. I hope she takes the time to rest and enjoy her baby. She certainly has nothing to prove to anyone or she shouldn’t think she does.
