Jim Parsons married his longtime partner over the weekend

Big Bang Theory fans saw Sheldon propose to his longtime girlfriend Amy on the season 10 finale. In a case of art meeting life, Jim Parsons, who plays the character, finally walked down the aisle with his partner of 14 years, graphic designer Todd Spiewak. Bazinga, indeed.

Jim and Todd began dating in 2002. The 44-year-old actor didn’t come out officially until 2012, when he was performing in the stage production of the drama The Normal Heart. An article in The New York Times sort of “outed him” saying that Jim’s role as a gay activist “resonated” with him. A year later, Jim and Todd made their debut together on the red carpet, when Jim received the Inspiration Award at the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) Respect Awards. At the time, Todd told reporters that the pair had “no plans” to get married.

Jim and Todd changed their tune and made it official during a ceremony and reception at New York’s legendary Rainbow Room on Saturday night. The couple wore matching black tuxes for the ceremony and then changed for the reception – Jim into a maroon crushed velvet jacket and Todd into a white jacket. Jim shared two photos from the big day on Instagram – one with the two of them holding hands post-ceremony and another heading out to the floor for their first dance. Awww.

Jim’s Big Bang co-star (and now TV fiancée) Mayim Bialik was at the ceremony and shared Jim’s wedding photo on Instagram, along with some heartfelt well wishes, captioning the snap, “What a wedding. Not a cell phone in sight. Everyone was so present which sounds pretentious but it was truly powerful for us all to just want to be there fully. Todd and @therealjimparsons, you are so loved.”

I am not a Big Bang fan, but I love Jim – and he was fantastic in The Normal Heart. If you do like Sheldon, you may also appreciate the news that a Young Sheldon spinoff is in the works. Jim told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live last Monday that the show “is like an origin story,” explaining, “I was trying to come up with an idea for a show, and we had this idea about my little nephew, who is really smart, down in Texas. My family is pretty average — no offense to them, but they’re very normal, and he’s very smart. One thing led to another and I thought, ‘This could be Sheldon.'” Ugh. I can take anything related to Big Bang in small doses. This is a little much for me. But hey, let’s congratulate the happy couple. Mazel tov, you two.

I can’t believe he’s 44. Another vampire. Other than that, the pics are cute – congrats!

They are adorable. Jim brought me to tears in THE NORMAL HEART. A recent survey shows 64 % of Americans approve of marriage equality. I read that in POLITICO. Sadly, the comments section was full of vile homophobic attacks. Still, much work to do to uphold rights for Jim, his husband, and my little girl.

Sheldon is by far my least favorite character and why I stopped watching Big Bang but he is a terrific actor and seems like a good guy. He was wonderful in the Normal Heart.

    Congratulations to the happy couple.
