Diego Luna is helping raise awareness of plastic pollution in the ocean

A post shared by diegoluna_ (@diegoluna_) on

Happy Thursday in yet another crap week. What would you need to perk up your day? I know, there’s little to provide solace but how about a beautiful message from Diego Luna promising to save the world just for you? And it includes his new World Saving pal Chris Hemsworth and other beautiful people on a gorgeous beach, surfing and having a beer at sunset. Would that help a little? Okay:

For any of you who have been following either Diego or Chris’ Instas (you know who you are), you know they’ve joined Corona beer and Parley for the Oceans to address the insane problem of plastic detritus polluting our oceans. Corona and Parley have identified six key regions to start: Australia, Chile, Dominican Republic, Italy, Maldives and Mexico and pledged to save 100 islands by 2020. To get there, they’ve enlisted regional ambassadors to bring awareness as well as put in some muscle: Diego (Mexico), Chris (Australia), Ramon Navarro (Chile) and Nashla Bogaert (Dominican Republic). It’s an amazing effort and Corona’s commitment is admirable as they’ve promised to refocus their entire brand to support Parley’s A.I.R. strategy, including Corona SunSets events. G*d I love this campaign. For a better scope of how bad the ocean’s plastics pollution is, go here or read The Sex Lives of Cannibals, it will never leave you.

But, I promised not to depress you further so let’s get back to Diego – and bonus Gael García Bernal! (*swats CB’s hand away* MINE!) They were in Cannes together because just about the only thing better than a beach going Diego/Gael is a tuxedo clad Diego/Gael photo op.

Mes amantes were seated at Table 46 at the big “Happy BDAY, Cannes!” wingding along with Salma Hayek, Guillermo del Toro and Alejandro Inarritu. Isabelle Huppert and Mads Mikkelsen were made honorary Mexicans for the night and joined in the fiesta that included mariachis compliments of Salma. Obvious everyone wanted to be at the cool table so eventually the whole party revolved around Mexico-du-Cap.

What else? Diego just signed on to star in Hecate, I Love You. Sorry – Berlin, Berlin, I Love You and it also stars Orlando Bloom. Plus *trumpet fanfare* his Captain Cassian Andor and sarcastic sidekick K-2SO are getting their own comic book!

Okay, so not Diego in motion but still – this only lends fuel to the rumor that Cassian might pop up in the Han Solo prequel. I don’t know about you, but I could pour over photos of Diego all day. So, I think I will:

Arranca la marcha de los pingüinos!! #cannes2017

I always try to avoid plastic…. it really annoys me that almost everything (vegetables, …) is packed in plastic.

  2. Lightpurple says:

    More Diego and Gael, please?

Tell them they can find me cleaning plastic off the beach on Cape Ann.

  3. Ickythump says:

I watched a documentary that was on Netflix about this topic and it was really depressing. The amount of plastic consumed by and killing sea creatures and birds was scary. It was so sad to watch the seabird collapse and die on the beach and see the amount of plastic it had consumed when they cut it open 🙁

I like this cause! Like Ickythump said, ocean pollution affects many species.

It is good to start a day seeing: Diego, CHems and Gael. Thank you, Hecate!

    Ps: yay to Cassian!

I’ve never bought a comic book in my life but I am tempted! I hope they do use them again in another standalone movie. K2’s super-protective attitude towards a rather capable grey spy/assassin was really quite adorable. It doesn’t have to be about them but they’d fit well into a lot of stories.

      • Miss M says:

I am quite excited about it too. I hope the franchise brings back their characters.

@Mia4S – me too! Not a fan of comic books or franchise novelisations but you bet I’m making straight for that Cassian/K-2 comic when it comes out.

I’m still heartbroken that Rogue One killed off everyone, because I would have loved to see the crew again in the future. But I get why it was necessary, precisely for the sense of that loss of potential. Prequels can’t compare 🙁

  5. Hunter says:

Saltwater Brewery in Delray Beach makes these awesome edible beer rings that dissolve into food for the sea creatures. Thumbs up!!

  6. Mia4s says:

The world has gone to absolute hell so I’m just going to live in this post with Diego if you don’t mind. Gael can stay too. That sing along gives me so much joy!!

  7. laulau says:

My two closest friends and I are huge fans from the Y Tu Mama Tambien days of Gael and Diego. For some reason I get so happy that they are actually best buds.
All the heart emojis for these two.

  8. DavidBowie says:

Every time we go to the beach I spend a little while picking up trash. We live near Galveston and those beaches are so dirty – not just plastic but tar and oil from the BP spill. It’s so sad. We all need to do better to protect the land and sea.

love this cause. just had to comment bc of that ❤

    This is beautiful.

To paraphrase Roger from American Dad : “You wouldn’t let me get that Gael Garcia Bernal poster! His eyes are green and he’s Latin, I NEED IT!!”

    Agreed, Roger, agreed.

  12. Lindy says:

I’m so glad he’s using his voice to shine a light on this problem! Love him!

I’m torn in about five different directions by this post – plastics pollution is a truly horrific problem and I really wish we weren’t so careless with our planet, and then there is Diego, and Diego and Gael together, and more of Cassian Andor, and then the Mexican singalong in Cannes!
