Lauren Conrad & William Tell welcomed their first child, son Liam James Tell

Rebecca Minkoff's 'See Now, Buy Now' fashion show

I didn’t realize Lauren Conrad was due so soon! Just last month, LC covered Fit Pregnancy Magazine and she didn’t seem to be in the last weeks of her pregnancy at all. She also seemed very calm in general – she wasn’t even worried about her birthing plan or the pain of labor or anything. Well, Lauren and her husband William Tell welcomed their first child on Wednesday. It’s a boy! They named the kid… Liam James. Liam James Tell. Liam Tell or LJ Tell? You guys always yell at me for trying to figure out a kid’s nickname, but it’s one of my favorite things to do. I suspect the kid will just go by Liam, although there’s always a possibility that he’ll go for one-syllable, like Lee Tell. Which makes him sound like a cowboy.

In any case, we don’t know much about the birth but I’m sure everything went smoothly because… it’s Lauren Conrad we’re talking about. A difficult birth would be off-brand! She and her husband released this statement to People:

“We are thrilled to share that we welcomed our son Liam James Tell into our family,” the couple tell PEOPLE exclusively of their bundle of joy, who was born Wednesday, July 5, in the afternoon. “Mom, Dad and baby are doing well. We’re already in love!”

Add Conrad, 31, and Tell of their dogs’ reaction, “Chloe and Fitz aren’t so sure …”

Born weighing 6 lbs., 14 oz., Liam is the first child for Conrad and Tell, 37, who tied the knot in a September 2014 sunset ceremony at a boutique winery in Santa Ynez, California.

One tip I’ve heard – from Serena Williams’ fiance, of all people – is that you should bring a baby blanket home from the hospital and “introduce” the baby’s scent to your dogs that way. Although it sounds like LC didn’t even spend the night in the hospital, so it was probably easier to just introduce the actual baby to the dogs. And the dogs were not happy. But they’ll get with the program.

He's here! We're so excited to welcome Liam James Tell into the world!

How ironic a former reality star chooses a normal name. Good for them! I hear she had actually considered the name Sir, but didn’t want to steal Beyoncé’s thunder. Ha! Yes Sir, that’s my baby!

  2. Goats on the Roof says:

LJ is a terrible nickname. I imagine they’ll call him Liam. It’s such a nice and short name already, no nickname necessary.

    • EOA says:

Liam itself is a shortened version of the name William. So they found a way to name the child after his father without making him a junior.

  3. Jegede says:

Isn’t Liam a shortened version of William? Means he’s named after his father.

I know two Irish dudes named Liam (full name William).
Unless Liam has become it’s own moniker.

Kinda the way the name, Jack, used to be derived from the name John, – JFK, Jack Nicholson (both born as John; both Irish descent) – but is now a name in its own right.

And what’s with the cast of The Hills and the name James?
Cavallari’s daughter is called Saylor James (though she may have been copying Blake Lively there)

    • helonearth says:

Yep – Liam is now a stand- alone name, its a very popular name in the UK.

    • SoulSPA says:

I am not a native English speaker. I do not understand how could the name James be assigned to a girl as first name. When I heard BL had called her kid James I thought all along she had a boy. Until I read it was actually a girl. I know there are some gender neutral names – Drew (but it should come from Andrew for male) or Madison maybe. Still think of James is a male name.

      • Carol says:

Blake and Ryan’s daughter was named for his late father, and Blake apparently said that she liked having a boy’s name so didn’t mind giving her daughter the same experience.

oh i love the announcement with the cross stitch. Might be very twee, but i had not seen it before like that.

The name is okay, i think ‘Tell’ is a bit of an awkward sounding last name.

  5. Eric says:

    What’s this? A normal name???

Wait, no fruits like Apple or Banana?

No royalty like King, Queen, Lord?

No religiosity like Saint, Crucifix, Anhk?

The world is really upside down.

  6. Barrett says:

I can’t not think of this I watched a true Hollywood special on her on the E channel. (Yes embarrassing to admit) and her father kept saying before the Hills he didn’t know what direction to point her in bc she was so clueless, not bright and a terrible student.. I can’t stop thinking it every time she is in a magazine or selling something!
Well Liam is a good normal name, congrats.

  7. lizzie says:

i’m sure he looks like an adorable loaf of squishy white bread with the crusts cut off…just like his mom!

  8. i dont know her says:

LOVE her ever since The Hills/Laguna.
The name is OK. Its what my partner wants to name our son if we have one…..meh.
    Either way, MAZEL!

+1,000 I’ve always thought she was adorable, and a *genuinely* sweet person. I’m glad she successfully built an empire for herself beyond reality TV. She seems very happy.

      Congratulations to the little family!

  9. Lex says:

Lauren was always going to name him something sensible and proper, not sure why people are surprised!

Love her, she’s gorgeous and lovely and carved herself out a proper career

  10. nicegirl says:

    congrats to LC!!!

  11. Neva_D says:

Lauren Conrad bores me. Don’t get me wrong, I watched Laguna Hills, caught a few episodes of The Hills throughout the years, and I think it is absolutely incredible how much she has built for herself. She is so hardworking and always comes across as classy and sincere. I think often times reality stars today can often fall into a bit of a downward spiral after their shows end, especially when they start so young, and I am so happy to know that Lauren has kept a good head on her shoulders and is succeeding and doing so well for herself.

But, that all being said, she bores the hell out of me. But I’m a tacky b*tch who lives for mess and drama. lol.

    Congrats Lauren!

  12. Ozogirl says:

Lauren is as basic as they come…and she wears it proudly! Love her!! Congrats to them!
