Sweden’s Princess Sofia & Carl Philip welcomed their second son, Prince Gabriel

Crownprincess Victoria celebrates her 40th birthday in Sweden

I was waiting to talk about this! I had actually forgotten about Sweden’s Princess Sofia and her second pregnancy. Sofia married Prince Carl Philip in the summer of 2015, and quickly became pregnant in the first months of their marriage. She gave birth to son Prince Alexander in April 2016. She became pregnant for the second time less than a year later, and gave birth to a second son just a few days ago, on August 31. A Virgo baby! A Virgo boy. Carl Philip told reporters that it was a quick labor and delivery and that he cut the umbilical cord.

Sofia and Carl Philip have named their second son… Prince Gabriel Carl Walther. The name Gabriel isn’t a common one in the Swedish royal family – in fact, this is the first royal baby in the House of Bernadotte to be named Gabriel. The name “Carl” is popular in Sweden and in the royal family, and Walther is the name of Queen Silvia’s father (Carl Philip’s grandfather). I wonder if the name Gabriel has some significance in Sofia’s family?

This baby will also carry a title: Prince Gabriel will be known as Duke of Dalarna. Dalarna is, according to People Mag, in the province of Värmland. Prince Carl Philip is already the Duke of Värmland. Nay, he is Duke of All Umlauts!! Also: Carl Philip’s sister Madeleine is knocked up AGAIN with her third child. Royal babies are in the air!

Here’s a photo of Carl Philip and Sofia when she was just hours postpartum. They do seem like they’re crazy in-love with each other. And they’re a fertile bunch, those Swedes.

They are so good looking and seem so happy together!! Congratulations!

And, apparently, Princess Sofia kept her work schedule. Just sayin’.

I saw this yesterday because I had a random urge to google them, and I was wondering if you’d do a story about it! I love them simply because of the way he was absolutely mooning over her on their wedding day, but I’m not sure how the Swedes feel about them as royals. From a purely superficial perspective, they’re a gorgeous couple.

Question: is it healthy for women to have babies so close together? A friend of mine had 2 babies in a year, and I’ve always wondered. Doesn’t it take, like, years for a woman to recover from the hormonal changes from ONE pregnancy? Can’t it be dangerous for your mental/emotional health to have them so close together? Not trying to concern troll, and I’m sorry if this comes off as ignorant. Just wondering.

Also: just creeped on the Swedish Royal Court Instagram. You’re welcome, ladies: https://instagram.com/p/BVmhtZxnmn6/

18mos-2yrs between pregnancies is considered “ideal” for the health of the mother, but back-to-back pregnancies are not really dangerous, unless there is an underlying health problem for the mother. She clearly has plenty of support – a doting husband and sufficient help so she gets a decent amount of sleep and isn’t trying to keep up with dirty laundry & making sure there is food in the fridge. Just having that makes a huge difference.

When my daughter was born, my mom was at the hospital a few hours later. The first thing she said to me was “she’s beautiful!” The next thing she said was “Breastfeeding is NOT birth control. Your brother is walking, talking proof.” He’s 13 months younger than I am. That said, I will be eternally grateful to her for showing up at my home every few days for two months with a bag of groceries and hanging around just long enough each time to run a load of laundry while I took a nap or a shower or walked my dog while she cuddled the baby.

I didn’t have a problem but neither did my mother we both had our first children in our mid 20s. I am a runner and practice yoga so being able to continue through pregnancy up until delivery made it easier to rebound physically. My mother was a dancer and then a runner, so she was always able to do the same. Not everyone is up for that and it isn’t the magic formula but physical activity of some kind can help with recovery time.
One of my sisters had it happen once, 11 months apart, and she was exhausted for a long time after. Her second pregnancy was a misery. She began her family at 34 by choice knowing she wanted only 3 children. Her career is mostly sedentary and high stress, so she spaced the last until she was 38 which turned out to be easier than the first or second.
If it is something you want and it isn’t taxing then it is fine but if it is inconvenient or if PPD is involved it can be a draining and difficult experience.

The Princess would have access to proper nutrition, quality healthcare, emotional support, rest, help and a low stress environment so it wouldn’t be difficult for her.

A friend of mine had her second baby a week before the first’s first birthday which… wow good on her. The first pregnancy seemed much more physically taxing on her but she was definitely done after the second so I’m sure even if it’s not dangerous it’s bloody hard work.

Congrats to them. They do look so very happy and in love. I wasn’t sure how she’d fit in with the royals but she has jumped and pulled her weight. For that I applaud her.

Wow, I’ve gotten to the point where being a princess and doing princess duties gets applauded. A far cry from the Disney movies I watched when young.

  4. Shar says:

    Love the name..

  9. Nicole says:

They are a gorgeous couple. I don’t know anything about them but they look happy.

  10. littlemissnaughty says:

They always look so happy and in love. And how does she put on skinny jeans hours after delivery???

  11. WendyNerd says:

Carl Gustav must be spitting mad that his son has had all these sons, LOL. “THE TESTOSTERONE! WASTED! WAAAAH!” Meanwhile his line is female for the next two generations at least, LOL. (That is, if Sweden’s Monarchy survives that long, which is questionable). Sexist prick.

    • Sara says:

Yeah, I can’t stand the royal family but it brings me some petty joy to think about how disappointed sexist bastard CG must be that he will be followed by two queens 😀

  12. teehee says:

Wait what shes standing there in jeans after delivery? She makes it look easy? (Im not a mom, but am justifiably horrified of the thought)

    • tracking says:

Pretty sure those are maternity skinny jeans. I had a pair, they’re great for post-partum since the band gives you the illusion of a flatter belly. But, yes, she’s super slender to begin with, so no surprise she’d look great straight after. They are a drop-dead gorgeous couple, and seem so happy together.

  13. CynicalAnn says:

    My son’s name-good choice!

  14. Ushouldknow says:

Good Goddamn that’s a beautiful family.

  15. penelope says:

Their body language together is always so warm and loving.

  16. Sara says:

Yay more grifters to support! Let’s how how it takes for king CG to demand more money to support the growing family!

  17. Aurelia says:

Gad compare the vibe of these two, to screwed up bill normal and waity.
