Many of you know this, but Amal Clooney’s style is all over the place. She doesn’t really have a “look.” I think she’s probably got a much quirkier personal style than most people realize, but she’s trying to tamp down that quirkiness and follow what George Clooney likes: he wants her to dress like a Kennedy, basically. Like she’s a Jackie O/Carolyn Bessette hybrid. Personally, I like Amal’s professional workwear for the most part – she’s got a good eye for suits in particular. I wish she would stop wearing mullet dresses and puffy miniskirts, but that might just be my issue. One thing I do love though: Amal has a glorious showgirl streak, I think. She likes some audacious ruffles, some feathers, perhaps an animal print, and the girl LOVES lamé. So shiny!!
These are photos of Amal at the William Vintage & Farfetch “unveiling” of their Gianni Versace archive. Amal is wearing vintage Versace and this lamé look is very cute. Amal is a huge fan of the William Vintage collections – for several years, she’s chosen a handful of big red carpet looks from William Vintage. She doesn’t go vintage just for the red carpet either – she shops their blouses, skirts, cocktail dresses, bags, etc.
Amal attended this unveiling solo, but she did hang out with some celebrities there, like Isla Fisher. Perhaps George was looking after the babies, perhaps a nanny was, or perhaps Amal’s mom is still around. Amal complimented George in a recent interview – she made it sound like she wasn’t expecting him to be such a good father, but he is really good at all of it. She also said she’s not having any more babies because “I’m 39. I already had them quite late.”
Meanwhile, George Clooney will be receiving the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award next year. The ceremony will be held in June 2018.

I usually like what she wears, but not that dress
I hate the skirt portion, but the top hangs nicely.
I would say Amal is less trend and more eclectic; her “thing” is politics, so she can give the finger to the fashion gaspers.
Her hair is so Janice from Friends.
Yes! Something always seems really dated about Amal. I think it’s her hair struggles to match her clothes often. I think shorter hair would actually be really pretty on her.
I have a feeling it looks much prettier in person. I’m a fan of her love of vintage.
Yeah, not a big fan of the dress, but I think she actually pulls it off.
The dress is OK, meh. Since after her pregnancy , her face has looked gorgeous. I really think she looks great with this weight. I hope she stays this size. She looks soooooo much better. When she gets too thin she looks like Mr. Bean.
I know it’s kind of tacky, but I love it. Not even ashamed 😉
I do too!
I don’t mind it terribly but the skirt portion of the dress reminds me of drapes in a vintage theater for Geritol Follies.
Me too. I think this dress looks good on her. I like that she is adventurous in her fashion choices even if she doesn’t always get it right. She’s almost always at least interesting to watch and quite a few times she gets it right and looks amazing.
Love her but this dress isn’t the best cut on her. In saying that, Amal on her worst day is miles better than me on my best day. She has the most beautiful hair and bone structure.
Agreed – Hate the waistline. Also the matchy-matchy shoes. Green shoes would’ve been fabulous.
The dress is fine for me. The looks overall is too much gold with the clutch and shoes. That being said, while it’s not a perfect look, it certainly isn’t bad. She looks fine here. Just not a homerun.
ditto.
Love the lame, hate the waistline. I love her fashion though, and her hair, and her general awesomeness.
I usually like what she wears but this is a bit too Roman gladiator in a 1970s casino for me.
Amal looks stunningly dated here. I love the shine and the vintage look of her dress. Perfect for post-pregnancy too. And the handbag and shoes are a great match.
Amal is a mystery to me. Is she the super human? Is she even real? She is obviously a serious, accomplished professional who enjoys the spot-light the way only an air-headed celebrity would. She wanted to be a mother yet she married George Clooney, who doesn’t exactly strike you as solid husband and father figure.
Like, is she a perfect robot or something…
Why is Clooney receiving the AFI Award? His films are not successful anymore & his recent film failed. I take it his publicst bought this one just like the other so-called prestigious awards?
I wondered the same thing, Sophie. Nowadays, I never watch, and just roll my eyes at every awards show. They’re either awards which are straight-out bought and paid for, or the entire night is a massive ego-stroke for, to and from a lot of narcissistic attention-seekers who think they what they do really changes the world and people’s lives. That sounds harsh, but oh, well…
I love that dress. And she looks gorgeous.
+ 100
Same here. Love it on her.
Don’t like the dress. It’s something you wear for a flapper costume.
Love Isla Fisher’s dress. She always looks good
Not a fan of this dress. I like her professional wear choices
Love the dress and the shoes and the whole look. Fabulous.
Don’t love it but she still manages to look great.
Stunning, I love it. Not sure how it can be described as “tacky.”
Too much like a costume in a sci-fi film.
Horrible dress, then and now, but the fabric is amazing – I want to touch it! Maybe a long sheath or flapper style dress would do it better justice. I think generally, you want to avoid gathers and pleats with that shiny lame – they interfere with the smooth sheen and just look bunchy and awkward.
Lame is hard to pull off. And she doesn’t.
I don’t love the dress, but gold looks good on her. Face and hair look great.
She poses like a teenager. I don’t like it.
I like it. But her boobs are too big for this style, it’s meant for a less curvy frame. I think this is something she would’ve chosen before kiddos and her body has changed since her twins. Not judging at all, but change it does. And it takes time to figure out how to dress your new body.
The dress design is poor and the lower part looks a bit dated but Lame should really make a comeback. The dress colour is lovely. I say yes to Lame and no to that dress.
I love the dress. I love she wears what she wants and just gives the finger to the industry. I see so many stars wearing the worst things because either it was given to them, they are getting paid to wear it or somebody told them so. George still garners enough power in the industry that Amal would be treated as a celebrity with no fashion sense by the designers. She does what she wants to do. I love it. Funny thing is that I didn’t really like Amal when she first came on the scene. I adore her now. I like that she is quirky, smart and unique. It is refreshing. I would wear this dress. This is so my style.
I actually like that about her too, but to me, Lylia, it’s not about giving the finger to the industry. I don’t think Amal really gives a shit about the industry unless it’s about her husband. I don’t even think Amal is the type to do that.
I see Michael Jackson when I see this picture.
The only thing that’s dated is their marriage.
