Here are some photos from last night’s InStyle Awards in LA. I didn’t know this event was happening, and I saw these photos very late. I chuckled a few times as I was going through them too – many women in attendance just wore boring little-black-dress uniforms, so I’m not going to talk about them. But there were some notable attendees, and some notably bad looks, so here we go. Let’s start with Cate Blanchett in Givenchy. Does this look like a repurposed circus tent? Yes, it does. Does it also sort of work on Blanchett specifically? Yes, it does. What can I say? Blanchett knows how to wear questionable looks well. The lipstick and shoe choices bring everything together.
Elle Fanning in Versace. Oh, God. The dress itself is rather cute and fun, but Elle’s hair and makeup are SO BAD.
Zendaya in Schiaparelli Fall 2017 Couture. I love this look completely. At first I was like “I’m not so sure about the hair with this dress,” but it grew on me very quickly. She’s going for a Pam Grier-’70s look and it works.
Selena Gomez in Jacquemus dress. Boring. Nothingburger.
Bella Heathcote in Rosie Assoulin. This is… strange. Very strange.
Kate Bosworth in Alexandre Vauthier Spring 2018. I actually like the dress – it’s striking and interesting – but her styling is awful. Whoever told her to wear her hair slicked down with a center part is trolling her. She looks like she’s going in for a role as a Disney villain.

@QueenElisabeth — I care. I don’t want to support the career of someone who supports child molesters. Every time someone who supports Polanski, or Allen, or someone of their ilk, I’d like a poster to call them out on it and remind the rest of us.
She adopted a baby girl and 18 months later took a job with Woody Allen. By the time that movie was done shooting her daughter would have been almost 3. The same age as the child Woody Allen crawled into bed with and asked her to suck his thumb. If he tried that with her child, in her rage she would probably almost kill him, but she has no problem working with a man who would do that to another little, little girl. She’s cancelled as far as I’m concerned.
I’ve never read her stating this? Wasn’t the Polanski reference made in a brief joke of people she could’ve possibly named her child after?

I like Cate Blanchett, but the pass she gets from some while they eviscerate other actors and actresses who’ve worked with Woody Allen and/or Roman Polanski has always struck me as weird.
I don’t think she literally named him in Polanski’s honor, I think that was more like a joke. She didn’t sign that letter that went around that all the stars signed in support of him.
No passes for working with Woody Allen though.
Boxworth looks like a blonde Jolie in that picture. Love Elle’s dress! Cate, IMHO, has always been overrated in everything so this is meh. Zendaya’s hair is everything.

Zendaya’s look would have been perfect in a colourful dress, this one is too dark and blah.
I think Selena wore a plain dress to showcase her shoes. I’d really like to get a look at those.

Is she standing on a yellow wooden ball or are those the heels of her shoes?
I think the ball is the heel of one of the shoes. I saw a picture on another site but still not good enough to really see them. The shoes are definitely asymmetrical. I hope I can find a close-up on another site.
Everybody’s stylists are high. They’re out there smoking the good stuff and just putting things on people like oooooooohhhh look at this maaaaaaaan hahaha

The matchy-matchy dress-shoes-make up combo rarely wins me over. At least, she didn’t add the clutch.
On a side note, how many style-fashion awards/trophies are given every week? Is the fashion nowadays so brilliant that so many rewards are needed?
I’ll admit that I’m a total plebeian when it comes to those things.

Bosworths dress could have been good, and I don’t mind the styling, but she doesn’t have the presence to pull off a statement dress like that.

I think Cate’s dress is cool and dramatic but she needed much stronger makeup for it- Bosworth’s makeup would have worked better with such bold stripes.
Cate’s hair and makeup look like they were styled for a pastel flloaty dress.
Selena looks so elegant, simple but stunning. The rest just look a mess.
Is Elle Fanning wearing a wig?
That’s what I wondered too. Her dress looks great though.
Cate definitely can make weird stuff work.
Elle…no. Bad makeup. Ditto for Kate Bosworth, her styling is terrible, and she’s been trying to do that tight hair, heavy makeup thing for a while now, and it NEVER looks good.
I love Zendaya’s look.

Bosworth likes that slicked-back look. Years ago in an interview she said that she has “beautiful bone structure” and likes to show it off. Guess she likes to show off her strange ears, too.
