Donald Trump offered an unhinged denial that he watches TV… while he watched TV

Many times, when people lie, they make their lies too detailed because they think their stories will sound more authentic if they keep on piling on more and more details. I remember once, in college, having to write a paper on a book I hadn’t read, and I just kept piling on details about what the TITLE OF THE BOOK meant and my professor wrote on the paper something like “girl, you clearly didn’t read this, just stop.” I was reminded of that because Donald Trump decided to go on Twitter this morning and deny the New York Times report that he just sits around the White House all day, watching Fox News and downing a case of Diet Coke.

As Dan Pfeiffer notes, “Trump sent this tweet denying a claim that he watched too much TV from story that has been out for two days because he saw people talking about it on TV.” For real – he was watching TV at 9 am on a Monday and he decided to tweet this unhinged mess of a denial. I think we should all deny our own actions in this way from here on out. I seldom, if ever, spend Sundays watching MTV Classic and thinking “I should really download more music from The Cure.” I never watch Flip or Flop Vegas, because I once called the woman on the show extremely tacky. Bad reporting. I never binge-eat heavily salted buttered popcorn while I watch MSNBC’s anchors rip Baby Fists to shreds. Never. Fake News!

Meanwhile, Trump has been openly stumping for an accused pedophile, Roy Moore, for the past week. The special election is tomorrow. Please go out and vote for the guy who is NOT a pedophile, Alabamians! Vote for Doug Jones, I beg you.

Update: Andy Murray is on fire lately with the Trump tweets!

The TIMES article seems terrifyingly accurate. The proof, of course, lies in Trumps’ responses on Twitter. We can watch a show that is critical of Trump, and he will respond. If people have the stomach for it, they can watch FOX, and then Trump will echo that. The article has a detailed timeline of what he watches and how much.

I bet Trump is watching TV right now. His accusers are holding a press conference. Stand by for the tweet storm.

    • jwoolman says:

If Trump denies it, then it’s true. If Trump accuses someone of wrongdoing, then he himself has done or is doing that thing (and the accused is likely to have not). If Trump says someone is dumb, then that person is smart enough to tell the truth about Donald Trump.

      He really is quite predictable.

I am still shocked, every day, tht this loon is President of the US.

    • IlsaLund says:

U.S. is being punished. Hopefully, we’ve learned our lesson and won’t misbehave again.

    • Beth says:

I’m in total shock when I still hear people saying that they plan on voting for him again. Hopefully these people wake up before it’s too late

    • AMA1977 says:

Every single day. The shock and horror has not worn off one bit. He is worse than I ever thought possible, and I had a very, very bleak view of the s***show we were about to endure going into this. C’mon, Mr. Mueller!!

I didn’t think 2017 could feel more jarring and unhinged than it already did, but the idea that the Alabama special election is a close toss up between a pedophile and a civil rights lawyer is…WOW. Absolutely mind boggling.

    • Veronica says:

Actually, a place like Alabama is exactly where I would suspect something like that to go down.

    • Elkie says:

And Trump says that Doug Jones, a man best known as a prosecutor, is “weak on crime”.

Meanwhile, not only is Roy Moore an actual criminal, who was also fired from his job twice for IGNORING THE LAW, but his douchecanoe son has been arrested no less than NINE times for criminal behaviour. Which is probably a record for a white guy in Alabama whose father was a judge…

      • Angela82 says:

@Elkie: The son is trying to outdo his father on the sociopath scale. SMH.

      • Jerusha says:

And there are indications that Roy dated Kayla while she was still married to her first husband. The same Kayla he was eyeballing when she was 15.

    • jwoolman says:

But before smearing the people of Alabama, remember that it is also the state where a civil rights lawyer like the Democrat Doug Jones has a chance of winning against a Republican pervert like Moore, despite the strong history of Republican legislative control.

The real problem, not limited to Alabama, is that too many people have gotten into the rut of voting exclusively for one party rather than just splitting their ballot when a doofus appears on it for their preferred party. They think they have to be lockstep with the candidate in all issues, when actually it is normal to strongly disagree with your candidate about something. You just vote for the less dangerous and less obnoxious person and then work on affecting policy for the issues most important to you.

This is why voters get into denial mode about major flaws in their party’s candidate. They really don’t understand that voting is just one part of the process. They think they have done their duty as citizens by just voting. It’s much more complicated than that, but this attitude lets a lot of bad stuff happen between elections.

Gullibility is also a big problem. We need to work on helping people recognize inconsistencies, impossibilities, deliberate lies and hypocrisy for every candidate as well as outright con men like Trump. Maybe little vignettes like the Christophers had (have?) on tv might help, using nonpolitical examples.

  4. AGirlAbroad says:

Hahaah Andy Murray’s response is the best!!

  5. Indiana Joanna says:

Andy Murray is a hoot. I just love him.

  6. Lady D says:

I wonder how stressed he is about tomorrow’s election? Does his type of personality take a loss like that personally? (fingers crossed)
I read an article last night that said Roy is now among the missing. He’s not going to meetings, making speeches or even being seen in public the past week. The article stated the Doug Jones campaign had missed an opportunity to present ads showing his absence from the campaign trail and making fun of his disappearance. Moore won’t even show his face.

    • Angela82 says:

@Lady D: Trump will just delete the tweets that support Moore and pretend he doesn’t know him b/c he’s that petty,

    • Esmom says:

He doesn’t care about Alabama…but he needs a GOP senator.

    • jwoolman says:

Jones needs to tread carefully. Negative campaigning will likely backfire. And mentioning his opponent in even a negative way actually embeds his opponent’s name in voters’ heads. Better to continue as a positive alternative instead. Focus on issues.

  7. Rapunzel says:

Notice he didn’t deny the fact about drinking 12 diet cokes. #priorities

  8. BJ says:

He seems to be obsessed with Don Lemon. He never mentions Jake,Anderson,Wolf, etc but he always mentions Don.

  9. Beth says:

For him to send tweets during or right after the topic was discussed on the #fake news channels he says he never watches, is hilarious.

I love Don Lemon! Trump must get a little mad when an intelligent, gay, black man doesn’t stop letting Trump surrogates on his show know how wrong and foolish they are being by supporting Republicans and Trump

  10. Agnes says:

I am inclined to believe Trump actually. He probably spend even more time watching Fox News

  11. Sarah Mckay says:

    He is unhinged!

  12. Berlin says:

So easy now to know ALL the truth about Trump, Whatever he says, the truth is the exact opposite! ALWAYS!

  13. StLuGal says:

I think he’s attracted to Don Lemon and is sulking because he knows Lemon thinks he’s an idiot.
