Tracee Ellis Ross in Marc Jacobs with a matching turban is everything at the Globes

Tracee Ellis Ross used to be stylist and it really shows. She takes risks on the red carpet and they usually pay off. Last night she was in Marc Jacobs, in a beautifully draped gown complemented by a matching turban. I love the folds in this gown, the mixed black fabric across the front and back and how the tie on one side of the gown mirrors her head wrap. Leave it to Ellis Ross to make a turban fashionable.

I’m including Millie Bobby Brown here because I think she’s trying to get her red carpet pose down and needs to take lessons from Ellis Ross. When she smiles it’s so cute though! She’s only 13 and she’s a talented actress, she’ll learn. She’s in Calvin Klein and the fold-over collar on that gown is weird, it would look more polished without the gathering around the neckline.

Also in Calvin Klein is Sarah Paulson, and I like both the sequin top and the smooth skirt as well as the ribbon at the neckline. Ribbons can be superfluous but this one adds a little flair to the neckline. Also I love her blunt cut! It stood out on screen.

Why didin’t Millie pose or do interciees with all the other ST kids?

    • nemera34 says:

I wondered that too. Why was she not with the others. I wanted to see them all together. I love that show.

    • Whoopsy Daisy says:

      *interviews

    • lightpurple says:

It was noticeable that she didn’t.

    • Nicole says:

She came way after them. Which is sad because I like that they are typically together. Esp the boys they always ride together.
MBB was with them all night and at the afterparties

    • Pandy says:

Probably because they are trying to position her as the breakout star for future endeavours. Ugly dress but I liked that she was in sensible heels rather than stilettos. Does anyone else see Kristy McNicol when they look at her? I LOVE Traci’s turban, but I always like her hair loose as well. Not as big a fan of the dress. But the turban is amazing.

      • teacakes says:

@Pandy I actually see a bit of young Winona in MBB’s face, with a bit of Natalie Portman thrown in. She’s a cute kid.

  2. Nicole says:

Not sure if you know this…but women of color have been rocking this look forever. Heck I rock this look when I don’t feel like doing my hair.
That being said Tracee is the queen and I adore her.

    • nemera34 says:

YES.. I wear a turban on the weekends. She looks fabulous.

    • GreenTurtle says:

I’m sure CB just means high fashion, but yeah, turbans have been around forever, and they’ve definitely gone through periods of being “mainstream” fashionable before. I also loooove the look of a tall head wrap a la Erykah Badu.

      • Nicole says:

Exactly who I was thinking of in terms of rocking it mainstream wise.
Turbans are great for my natural hair and it requires nothing. Which if you know me I’m pretty minimalist

    • V4Real says:

The outfit is great, her make-up is horrible. Too much eyeliner.

      • Juls says:

I agree. She is gorgeous and she has beautiful, expressive eyes. The heavy eyeliner is a fail.

      • Milla says:

Yup. She usually looks 10 years younger. But that eyeliner, nope…
The rest is perfect. She is one of the best dressed and i recently started blackish and i am in love with her.

Most of best dressed were black women. Dunno why, but seems like they understood that you shouldn’t go overboard, just wear black. Don’t wear too much sheer or feathers or whatever…

    • equalitygadfly says:

Yup. Head wraps are a staple. Have been for…decades….centuries?

  3. Scarlett says:

Tracee is SO elegant in this. Bring back the turban !!

  4. Jillian says:

The Stranger Things Kids will always be so much cooler than me.

I really loved the dress on the girl who plays Max on the show. Millie looks great

  5. Lucy2 says:

Tracee looks amazing as always! I like Sarah’s dress too.

  6. tracking says:

Tracee is fabulous as ever. The end.

  7. Louise177 says:

Turbans can be hard to pull off. They can look costumey or out of place. Tracer made this one look like it came with the dress.

  8. Lucy says:

Loved all of these. I thought MBB’S was fun and age-appropriate (thankfully). I hope you cover the rest of the ST kids!! They all looked adorable and supported the #TimesUp cause.

  9. Kiki says:

This is exactly what I was saying. Solidarity my BIG TOE. This is not bringing anything to any cause. This is a sham to me… Because they are wearing black dresses were made by Louis Vuitton, Dior or any fashion house/designer. This saying absolutely nothing to the sexual harrasements or assaults. They will go and say what ever they want at the podium whether they win it not about their cause but people lets look at the real picture…. At the end of the day, the celeb will sip their champagne, eat exotic foods and have a great rich old time with each celebrity with their awards at hand. This is not giving any cause to anything. This is why I say if they a protest they come hard and that us to not go and show up to these pretentious awards.

    This is Bull Crap…

  10. Tess says:

That Millie Bobby Brown reminds me sooooo much of Natalie Portman at that age, complete with awkward posing!

  11. KiddV says:

Tracee won the fashion night, hands down. She was one of the first photos I saw and the rest of the night nothing came close to the happiness I felt when I saw her.

  12. Betsy says:

I wish I had the life and nerve to wear a turban. But white women tend only to wear turbans when they’re cleaning, having chemo, or are Elizabeth Taylor.

    Gorgeous look, Ms. Ross.

  13. Abbess Tansy says:

Tracee is fabulous as usual. Loved the turban.

  14. Valiantly Varnished says:

Turbans ARE fashionable. Black women have been rocking then for literally decades and we still rock them.

  15. teacakes says:

Millie looks cute, awkward poses and all – that massive ruffle feels like a very 80s party dress detail, which is perfect considering her show. The rest of the ST kids look great too.

I love Tracee Ellis Ross’s style in general but she looks extra amazing here.
