Timothée Chalamet met Angelina Jolie & Jennifer Aniston at the Globes

Timothée Chalamet during an appearance on NBC's 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.'

I haven’t covered Timothée Chalamet that much, mostly because Armie Hammer was the one doing all of the notable press around Call Me By Your Name. At this point in the Oscar season, I actually think Chalamet has been playing it so smart – he hasn’t had to issue any apologies, he hasn’t been outed as predator, he hasn’t made any kind of news for the wrong reasons. Meaning, his path to an Oscar nomination has been pretty uncomplicated. I believe he’s a shoo-in for a nomination, if not a major contender for Best Actor. I also believe his supporting role in Lady Bird really helps him out, because it shows that the kid has some range.

Anyway, Chalamet was on the Tonight Show last night and he talked about how strange and wonderful it was to attend the Golden Globes. This kid hits all the right notes – he’s in awe of the legends, he admits that a small part of him wanted to win, and he even gossiped a little bit. Apparently, he and his sister (who was his date) met Angelina Jolie… and then Jennifer Aniston! Or as he said: “We got to talk to Angelina Jolie and talk to Jennifer Aniston right after. I was like, ‘Oh my, God! Which side are we on?’ Look, man—I’m not [normally] hobnobbing with famous people. It’s like, ‘What the f–k is going on right now?'”

It’s cute. If this guy has an Oscar strategist, then the strategist is doing a hell of job. And Jimmy Fallon does a terrible job, because the next question should have been “oh my God, what did you say to Angelina? What did you talk about?!” Because GOSSIP. Why is Jimmy Fallon so bad at this?

Do men as young as him usually get nominated for the Best Actor category? I know it’s happened, but it seems to happen quite infrequently.

The youngest nominee for that category in the last 40 odd years has been…John Travolta (I think he was 24?).

    • Mia4s says:

Pretty rare. The youngest winner ever was Adrien Brody at 29. Actress it was Marlee Matlin at 21.

    • Mina says:

It’s very rare they get nominated, and even more rare they win. Since 2000 only three or four actors under 40 have won, the youngest being Adrien Brody at 29. I think Chamalet is likely going to be nominated, but unless Gary Oldman really messes up in the next two months, he probably won’t win (I think James Franco, who was a contender too, is losing his momentum quickly). And you know, I think it’s better for him not to win an Oscar yet. He’s too young and although he’s been acting for a while, when actors win Oscars without a solid career first, they get easily derailed.

      • Sherri says:

I kind of think so too, as much as I think his performance in CMBYN is Oscar worthy. He’s so young, and how could it not go to his head? He’ll have many other noms if this year is any indication. But Gary Oldman? Yuck. He has a problematic past and seems like a dick.

    • Una says:

Young men very rarely get nominated ad almost never win. I read somewhere once that academy voters vote for women they would like to fuck and vote for men they are most alike (or somethong like that). Since most of them are old white men, young actors are shit outta luck.

    • Christo says:

I hope he wins. He is mesmerizing in this movie. Seriously, I saw this movie and am still affected by it. This movie has a quiet, sublime way that really stays with you. The music and acting are so poetic and haunting. Please watch this. I would love for he and Soirse to get nominated and win for Call me… and Ladybird respectively—-both are immensely talented actors that would make up for the awful JLaw win from a few years back.

  2. Nicole says:

Would he not be going for supporting? I agree that he has a good path to a nom…the only thing standing in the way is people’s queasiness of the storyline. Saw some tweets about it this morning talking about consent and such

    • perplexed says:

That’s where I think he would have a better shot.

    • Mina says:

They have already promoted Armie Hammer for supporting, so they have to put him in main. Besides, in supporting he has even less of a chance with Willem Dafoe and now Sam Rockwell going strong there.

    • Lizzie says:

he’s the lead actor. the entire story is through his eyes and he’s in every scene of the movie. going for supporting would be a pretty blatant and tacky awards grab. not to mention – he delivered a hell of a performance as the lead actor and i would think he’d like to have that acknowledged with a lead nomination where he is actually competitively holding his own against some big hitters with way more experience. to put in for supporting would be settling for more of a shot and still losing to some journeymen actors who are “due”.

      • sunny says:

His performance(which clearly is a lead role as he is in almost every scene and it is his character’s story) is stunning. I really hope he gets a nod even though he has little shot at a win. That closing shot of the film alone…Wow.
He has been filming a lot of very interesting projects in a row and I am eager to see where his career takes him.

  3. Whoopsy Daisy says:

I’ve seen a few interviews with him and he’s so adorable.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

He has the type of face that will age incredibly well, as in getting more handsome as the years roll on. He’s cute now, but he’ll be a real looker in about 15-20 years.

  4. minx says:

    Fallon is an idiot.

  5. Lucy says:

He’s a cutie!! I want to see both of his movies.

  6. dumbledork says:

I wish Jimmy would have asked about his work for Woody Allen. Why don’t the guys get the same questions that plague the women? Age aside, he should be treated no differently than Greta, who had to field the same question immediately after winning a golden globe.

    • perplexed says:

He’s so young, he’s one of the few people who could probably actually get away with the excuse of youth and not knowing about the accusations against Allen if asked about it.

Jimmy Fallon never asks any hard questions though.

      • Mina says:

He’s 22, that’s not too young to not be informed. It’s probably more that his career is just starting, he’s not going to say no to a celebrated director , even when he’s mostly made crappy movies in the past 30 years.

      • perplexed says:

I think any young person in general should be informed, but whether young actors actually take the initiative to be informed is what I wonder about. If someone as old as Meryl Streep seems pretty clueless, I don’t really hold out much hope for a 21 year old actor to get out of his bubble and inform himself.

      • manta says:

He’s so young he could get away with it?
Well Selena Gomez and Elle Fanning are both younger than him,and when stills from the set were posted on this site, their youth wasn’t really an excuse, either in the post or in the comment section( from side eye to “cancel”).

So the stance of asking actors about their reason to work with Allen after Dylan’s open letter only stands for girls/women or Timberlake.
The freshface cute kid, flavor of the moment, shall remain unscathed. And with an aunt writer, producer, uncle and grandfather also in the biz, I seriously doubt basic information known from us would totally fly above his head.

      • Otaku Fairy says:

Selena is actually 3 years older than him while Elle is the one who’s 2 or 3 years younger than him, but I agree with your overall point. Either every 19-25-year old who works with a known rapist or pedophile is automatically cancelled and complicit, or not, but there can’t be a separate set of rules based on gender or likability.

      • msd says:

But he worked with Woody Allen as lately as October. He was working with him when the Weinstein story came out. Women are getting questioned (and often berated) for having worked with him 3 years ago, 5 years ago, even freaking 40 years ago in Streep’s case … I like Chalamet as an actor and yes he’s 22 but he shouldn’t get a free pass because he’s a guy and seems nice. Same with all the other men that don’t get asked uncomfortable questions.

    • Mina says:

I agree with you, but I think it’s because women are usually more vocal on their defense of other women (something men really need to catch up with) and also Greta had been called out especifically by Dylan Farrow, so they couldn’t not ask her.

    • Talie says:

Colbert would grill him on this…Meyers, I don’t know. Fallon would never.

    • Lucy says:

I have the (very) vague feeling that Woody’s movie might end up not coming out…

    • mia girl says:

      I totally agree @dumbledork.
Not just Fallon, but why isn’t ANYONE asking these men the same questions. Timothée Chalamet Is a man, 22 years old and been in the business for a few years. He and his people should know better than to work with Allen. I don’t accept his age as an excuse. He JUST worked with him.
Greta Gerwig had to release a statement for working with him over 5 years ago.
Timothée Chalamet should be asked and have to explain himself.

  7. LittlefishMom says:

He’s very sweet this kid. In a nerdy, innocent, intelligent way. Adorable. I guess no one is going to judge him that he went with his sister? Lol! re: AJ using kids as a shield.

  8. Nev says:

fun fact: he was on Homeland and has dated Lourdes Leon!

  9. truth hurts says:

Was jen going around the room talking to people after she saw them talking to Angie. ROTFL!!!! I would have been laughing my azz off if that happened to me. I would have been star struck and speechless with Angie tho.

  10. ferdinand says:

I’ve been following both Timmy and Armie’s path to Oscar since I saw the movie last October, The movie is amazing and the acting is superb. I really do think that had not been Oldman’s year, Chalamet has a great chance of becoming the youngest Best Actor winner, ever.

and FYI, He’s been asked about Woody,
