Seriously though, why didn’t they make ‘Lando: A Star Wars Story’?

Several hot teaser trailers dropped during the Super Bowl, and some not-so-hot trailers dropped too. Like, does anyone care about that Rock movie, Skyscrapper? I hope not. Probably the two most talked about trailers were, unshockingly, for Disney films. First up: Solo: A Star Wars Story. There have been so many reports about the behind-the-scenes drama on Solo, and how Alden Ehrenreich can’t act and the script is terrible and Disney fired the original directors and all of that. But still, people are going to give this film a chance. Here’s the teaser, which features a lingering shot on LANDO.

If Alden can pull off even half of Harrison Ford’s cocky charm, this will make a billion dollars. Oh, and this is the just-released full-length trailer:

It looks good. But let’s be honest: LucasFilm/Disney knows how to cut a good trailer. I would be shocked if the final movie included every scene that we see here.

Here’s the Infinity War teaser which aired during the Super Bowl. This is meh to me, mostly because I thought Doctor Strange was kind of awful and stupid and I’m not enjoying Bendy in this universe.

The new Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom trailer reminds me that I never saw the first Pratt-led Jurassic movie.

And here’s Mission Impossible: Fallout, starring Henry Cavill’s stache work and the Ghost of Tom Cruise’s Soul. I mean, the action sequences look cool. But I’m done with this mess.

Glover in that fur…reminding me of Billy Dee Williams circa 1970s…AND NOTHING IS BETTER THAN THAT!!!!

I’m cautiously optimistic? I’m digging the fact that this is not looking like as much of a sausage fest as Rogue One was. We’ve got Emilia Clarke’s and Thandie Newton’s characters, plus our first main female droid.

  3. Aiobhan Targaryen says:

Yeah, I am pretty much going to go see this for Donald, Donald’s facial hair and fur coats, and Emilia. It also looks like Thandie Newton and Woody Harrelson are in this, so I am basically seeing it for the supporting cast only.

Alden looks wack as hell and his hair/wig is atrocious. Yung Chewy is kind of cute.

Agreed, I’ve kind of already forgotten what Alden looks like, definitely couldn’t pick him out of a line up.
Glover just has a bit more screen presence.

    He’s adorable.

Saw the Mission At Infinitem commercial last night during the Super Bowl and realized I had already missed a few of this franchise movie. How many are there? And why another one?

The fact that they kept the backstory for Han from the old accessory novels is a good idea, but I still don’t think he’s a good lead protagonist. He’s much better in a supporting role. Lando, on the other hand, is a different story, since he’s implied to have gone through a character arc well before we meet in in the old movies.

Still salty about Emilia Clarke, though. Like, legit, the new CANON Star Wars comics introduce a black female character who has significant past association with Han (Sana Starros). Why the hell wouldn’t you use her in the story instead of a one-off white woman who will probably never be seen again after this film? I’m calling it now – she’s the love interest who winds up fridged.

I agree about the characters. To me, Han Solo’s story is about when he stopped being all for himself and found a bigger purpose. You know, the first Star Wars movies. Who he was prior to that isn’t that intriguing to me. Lando, on the other hand, would be a much more interesting subject. Or Leia.

I think it looks awesome, and Alden actually seems to be doing a good job? Lando is bae.

  8. Nicole says:

I don’t think he will pull of solo and if half the complaints about his acting are true…that sucks. The supporting cast looks amazing.
The avengers teaser wasn’t as good as the first trailer. Hoping they drop the full one during black panther.
Jurassic World 2 trailer was okay. Should’ve been better.

  9. Onerous says:

Every single Star Wars movie gets this kind of “Ooooh… production trouble” treatment. I think it’s done purposely to manage expectations. Then we’re all blown away when we see the movies.

And yes – more Donald Glover all the time, please.

    • Veronica says:

Well, this one actually did go through an entire director change, so the trouble here may have been legit. Otherwise, TLJ is the only one that had much ado about it because a.) Abrams didn’t originally sign on for three movies, so they had to go with someone else, b.) Carrie Fisher died before they finished editing, which is going to force them to completely rewrite Episode IX.

I woke my son up this morning by showing him the new avengers teaser trailer. He watched it at least 5 times before he came down from breakfast.

I’ll probably see the Han Solo movie eventually, but I’m a very casual Star Wars fan.

  11. Anguishedcorn says:

I really feel like even the lines that Alden delivered in the trailer were really badly done, so I’m not optimistic. All the rest of the cast seems amazing though.

  12. Mia4s says:

Nope. Solo is not clicking for me. It looks like a really expensive fan film. The first new Star Wars trailer to not excite me. Sigh….

  13. Jag says:

That hair on young Han is just wrong.

Thank you for posting all of these trailers! I had no idea that they were all coming out. Will have to watch for them on Netflix or wherever; other than Mission Impossible, which I don’t care about at all.

    1. Poor Alden. He was fantastic in Hail! Caesar – really great. He was decent in the YA movie he did. He just cannot pull off mini Harrison. The hair looks ridiculous, his facial expressions are trying too hard, and most importantly: the voice is ALL WRONG. Harrison has a famously deep voice and his voice just doesn’t cut it. I mean – it’s a tough gig. Harrison is one of the most famous and iconic actors out there; but he is wrong for it. They would have been better of casting the guy who played young Harrison in that Blake Lively lives forever film – that guy got it right and pulled it off perfectly. Although, maybe he didn’t have the ability for the one-liners and quips Solo pulls out? THat’s the other thing – Harrison famously ad-libbed a lot of that. You need someone who can naturally pull that off. Ah well? I’ll see it for the supporting cast I guess.

    2. Holy crap I rewound the Inifinity Wars clip 8 times – super excited!

    3. I didn’t even bother to watch the trailer – the picture was enough. No thanks! I didn’t watch the reboot film. The original film is a classic that still holds up today. The book was fantastic. This looks like crap and I can’t imagine Michael Crichton loving it. They turned a brilliantly done story playing off the idea of: just because you can, should you? that was actually quite realistic into utter trash horror territory. No thanks.

    4. Does anyone care about Mission Impossible anymore? I watched the first two and they were great but now? Love Rebecca in just about anything but… Hmmmm…
