Is the Beyhive losing their mojo? Because I expected to know the identity of #WhoBitBeyonce within a matter of hours, but it didn’t turn out that way. Here’s the timeline: after dropping some hints about a juicy blind item, Tiffany Haddish spilled the tea in her GQ profile, which was published Monday morning. The tea was that a Mystery Actress not only openly flirted with Jay-Z in front of Beyonce, but the Mystery Actress BIT BEYONCE ON THE FACE. The Beyhive claimed that they were going to suss the identity of the Mystery Actress by midnight Monday. It didn’t happen. It felt like it was going to be the most haunting blind item of the year. But no – according to TMZ’s sources, the Mystery Actress was… Sanaa Lathan?
We know who the biter is in the Beyonce mystery … we’re told it’s none other than Sanaa Lathan. Multiple sources tell TMZ, Tiffany Haddish has told multiple people the culprit is Sanaa.
One source said it was not an aggressive bite … it was playful and noninvasive, but still caught Beyonce off guard.
Sanaa tweeted a faint denial, saying “Y’all are funny. Under no circumstances did I bite Beyonce and if I did it would’ve have been a love bite.”
The incident in question went down in December, at an after-party for Jay-Z’s 4:44 concert at The Forum.
The story goes … Sanaa was talking to Jay in a way that made Bey uncomfortable. Beyonce went over to Sanaa who brushed off any insinuation of inappropriate conduct and then gave her a jokey bite. Tiffany told Beyonce she was going to kick Sanaa’s ass, but Bey told her to let it go.

Now, do you believe TMZ’s sources? Here’s the thing: out of the list of alleged culprits, Sanaa’s name was the one that leapt out at me, but from what Chrissy Teigen tweeted, I got the feeling that the Mystery Actress was NOT the most obvious possibility. I mean, a lot of gossip-followers have heard rumors about Sanaa, and as I said, her name seemed to come up a lot during the speculation. I dismissed her as being much too obvious. But I guess I was overthinking it. So… Sanaa Lathan is on drugs and she was flirting with Jay-Z and then she bit Beyonce and then she told Tiffany Haddish to stop dancing. Sanaa needs to go into witness protection from the Beygency, I swear to God.
Meanwhile, in case anyone in the Beyhive is still mad at Tiffany for spilling the tea, she posted this defense:
It’s true though? Most of Beyhive members who are now criticizing Tiff are the ones who would have been sharpening their switchblades to take out The Bitch Who Bit Beyonce. Of course, the Beyhive isn’t really mad that Tiffany was going to fight Sanaa Lathan on Beyonce’s behalf. They’re mad at Tiffany because SHE TALKED. Because she had the chance to be in Bey’s crew permanently but not anymore because she talked so much.

Is this the narrative that she wants to send out right before the tour though? Not only did Jay reduce her to a low self esteem woman checking out her man’s convo with other women. But said women can also bite her and get away with it while Bey still trying to act tough in front of Jay and the public. And then she goes after the weakest link TH in a crappy rap verse not the biter or her husband who allowed both the flirting and the biting.
I love Bey but she needs to stand on her own as it’s clear she’s weak and insecure AF and no amount of fronting or music van hire that she’s THAT GIRL and needs her man for validation.
Her image and iconic status will always be tainted by Jay. She can control her body and music but Jay clearly controls her.

I disagree about Bey’s reaction. Her insistence that Tiffany just let it go because Sanaa was under the influence and well known struck me as dignified and compassionate, not weak. Elevator gate showed us that Bey is a pacifist and this settles it for me.
Again, Bey came up Sanaa herself when she saw she was approaching her husband. That was the initial story, a woman went too far while talking to Jay so Bey herself put herself in the conversation to let her (Sanaa) know what’s up. Then when she got bit, she cussed Sanaa out to her husband. Hardly a chill reaction.
When Tiffany started spilling the beans though, Bey made the effort to call out TH. Not Jay who allowed the flirting and biting, not Sanaa who rubbed up her husband, bit her and was rude to other guests but TH an upcoming ‘harmless’ silly woman who overshares. Bey ‘punished’ the weakest link because she knows she can. Bey will always be a wife having to check up on her husband…she sang about it and this story confirms it (which is probably why she’s mad at TH for bursting her carefully crafted image).
She’s that girl who talks shit behind your back when she knows she can’t take you on (Sanaa clearly doesn’t care, high or sober) but when an adoring newbie is in the game she can go all out to assert her fake toughness. It is weak. Anybody can stand behind a mic and spit threatening verses, but who are you when you are actually faced with somebody who won’t kiss your ass, respect your family and physically lets you know they don’t care about whatever status you have as a famous person? Oh then Bey backs in a corner to talk shit.
I’m a fan of Bey but her career choices as of late (her features) and personal choices (attached at the hip with her cheating husband) and her overly controlled image are turning me off. Jay will truly be her downfall.

I think you’re overreaching in some of your characterizations of the speculation here. I’m not a member of the hive, and even I can see that Jay and Bey are complicit in this leak, even if it was all off-the-cuff revelations on Tiffany Haddish’s part. I think Bey and Jay don’t have to actively do anything more than hire competent representation, which is par for the course for them at this stage in their careers. The thing about celebrity influence is that when you wield as much of it as Beyonce and Jay-Z do people with access to you will not publish things about you without your permission for fear of losing that access (caveat: unless the story is just that big or scandalous, at which point the public interest holds more sway). Over the course of writing and editing a piece, journalists, editors, and fact checkers will go back and forth with a celebrity’s representatives to suss out fact from fiction, and where the line should be drawn between what can be shared freely and what needs to be quietly put to bed. It doesn’t take a mastermind to do any of that; just a decent publicist and a non-tabloid journalist doing their job without actively burning bridges can get the job done. What the public picks up on and runs with is probably more of a surprise when stories actually hit than the content of the stories themselves.

Sometimes there are surprises, and sometimes the story is just too good to pass up, but for the most part, there is a desire to maintain as positive a relationship as possible.

I know they’re friendly and have been for years, but they’re not especially tight. Not tight enough that it would make sense to just shrug off being bitten and let the biter keep partying with her.
Beyonce also told Tiffany the actress isn’t always like that, but Sanaa’s always in some state of messiness. Biting Bey would be a new low, but not an unexpected one.

IMO, it’s such a strange, bizarre, inhuman thing to bite someone. It’s something a Human would only do if they are on drugs or the last defense in saving his/her life. And done to someone really famous and thus not discreet. I would be fascinated if this happened to Anderson Cooper or even the Orange traitor in the WH! It’s just inexplicable and hard to look away.
I was recently roofied, and my reaction to the substance was irresponsible, partially dangerous behaviour. I don’t know if that bite thing really even happened, but I will never judge anyone ever again who is behaving crazy or extremely differently than usual; I will actually try my best to ask if the person needs help or at least watch them from afar to make sure they are safe because I sure had at least two guardian angels on heavy duty that weekend.
